Hands / Punching being the best weapon in the game WTF?
hogscraper replied to screwloose45's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
They definitely should not 'fix' this. Right now, in the current state of the game it seems like a problem, but its intended to help you against zombies. Being able to knock out a zombie when you don't have a weapon will become invaluable when their numbers get increased. Also, why on Earth would you ever let someone you didn't know get that close to you? They don't need to be near you to talk and if you are helping them you can always drop gear on the ground and back away. -
Why would you want this? If its to combat people running into a building and logging out, they are working on their combat logging fix as we speak. Outside of that context I'm not sure why you would want this. As you log into the game, its a bit disorienting and you need to get your bearings quick while hoping there aren't any zombies or players that saw you before you even got in game and are coming to kill you. That's why its nearly always the best bet to hide inside a house when you log out. Not sure why you would want to force people to only log out in the open.

Few suggestions: Spelling mistakes: things that are not workin: fitreplaces The reason people are thinking you just cut and pasted this information from other sites while not crediting them is because every spelling mistake you made is shown to you while you're typing. If you choose not to right click those terms and fix them, (if you aren't sure how to correctly spell them), then expect people to think you are not being honest or being lazy. Its the tradeoff from claiming to be the best ever but not fixing even small mistakes. The best ever wouldn't do that. Things you may want to add: Learning prominent landmarks and how they relate to other areas Differences between sprinting, jogging, walking, crawling and lying still both day and night and how that affects zombie aggro How to lose zombies or best ways to deal with them in cities and in the forest If you don't want to come off as a noob, don't use the word Bambi. I get that you use it because you watched some entertaining guy on YT use it but that guy isn't well liked by a lot of people who aren't noobs here. (If you ask why you will derail your own thread so just search the forums if you want to know why people laugh at you for using that word). No one gets a thread stickied anywhere unless someone other than the OP asks for it. Making a pretentious claim at being the best ever shows a lack of modesty. Maybe you intended only to eventually become that at some point in the future with the community's help, but claiming it up front is a bad start. Asking for your not the best ever guide at this point to be stickied is also bad form. You don't get to decide that your work is so great that other people will most certainly find value in it. Other people, who find value in it already, can ask for it. You have a great idea, but something like this isn't ever going to be a one person job or even proper for a forum post. Make a Google doc, or create it as a webpage and work on formatting a proper user guide. Invite friends or people that know a lot about the game to work on it with you. Make a 200 plus page masterpiece, then humbly submit it to the demi-gods who run this website. Humbly prostrate yourself before their infinite magnificence and you might find yourself a place in the pantheon.

THIS^^ I may rage at things happening in the SA. I may throw my mousepad at the wall, (because its the only thing I can't break within reach), and I may yell and scare the neighbors. What I will not do is talk shit about it on the forums except for opinions that have to do with decisions already made. Crying about bugs is pointless as I know they are already well aware of them. I was one of those people begging to play it in whatever state it was in. I couldn't care less if the game insta-killed me every other spawn so long as I could see the surrounding land for a moment each time and imagine what is on the horizon. I just wanted to have a small window into the development process of an awesome game. Does it suck that we aren't yet in the future where everything is rosey and I can build a base and defend my suv? Kind of but there are a ton of games out there to play in the meantime and I'm happy I was throwing my money into the pot in the first couple of hours after release.

Or you could just do like I did and choose to play another game while you wait for the fixes. I love Dayz, or rather the idea of what Dayz can be one day. Right now its nothing but KOS and bugs. Bummer its an Alpha. I fill out some bug reports and check on the patches/updates while I enjoy other games. I didn't pay $29.99 to play a fully functional game, I paid it to add money to the pot that helps pay dev salaries so that when its closer to where I want it to be, I don't have to spend $59.99. I basically made an investment that doubles my money. Plus I get to check out Cherarus with updated graphics for a few hours, long before its retail release. I can see where a young child, or a man with a child's emotional fortitude, would have a sig talking about taking a full sized group of well armed people into Elektro in order to 'terrorize' people playing the Alpha then rage when something doesn't go their way, but to stick around after you died multiple times to nothing? Come on, you're not serious are you? First time: Holy crap what just happened? Second time: WTF! I will definitely not be going into any multi-story buildings until this lag gets better. Third time: Wouldn't have happened if you happily played something else or adapted and roamed the land. Fourth time: Now you just want to die. Fifth time: Seriously, we're still talking about this?

I have no idea what you want, then. If you don't own Dayz but want people you meet here on the forums to be able to group up in another game, why couldn't you just tell them information at the time you decide to group up? Also, why can't you put your Steam name in the Bio section of your profile? I do agree that it would make sense to add Steam to the list of contacts since you have to have a Steam account to play the SA, but I'm not sure why you just can't add it elsewhere in your profile where you can edit things.
-
Pretentious calling it the best ever as its missing oh, 99% of the information a player could use. Good information actually in your list, though. props for that.
-
The game uses whatever your Steam name is at the time of creation for your Dayz name so anyone that you give you Steam name to can send you messages. Or do you mean in your forum account? You could put your steam name in your bio or interests area of your forum page and people could get that information pretty easily.

That's funny. And sadly, probably, true.

I thought the spawns were all moved Eastward with Elektro being the most western place you could spawn? I have only died twice in the last week and both respawns would follow that. They also said these changes were on going and would be updated so not sure exactly where the borders are.

If there was a sniper somewhere that just killed the guy, who these two couldn't also see, it would have been a waste of bullets and potential death trying to see if it wasn't a glitch. I don't think this would be a hack, though. The mod had player's clients tell the server what other people 'should see'. That's why they could run God mode and a few other hacks. I thought the SA had the server tell each client what they should be seeing based on whatever rules are in place for whatever the player is wearing. Almost sounds like something to do with lag or just a graphical glitch.

What is the most annoying bug in the game [Poll/Be constructive!]
hogscraper replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
I don't know that all of the sounds you hear are a bug. There does appear to be a bug the last time I played that seemed to bleed things other people could hear into your sound area. People chatting, zombies being shot etc. That needs to be fixed but isn't really on my priority list like server hoppers. That needs to be fixed, stat. Some of the sounds you hear randomly, (like the chain-link fence sound), have been in the mod forever and I love that they are there. I don't seem to ever hear them until I am in an already stressful situation and I like that they crank up the stress for a second. -
Sometimes, if people are trapped under a house, getting to a tight spot and trying to vault can break your legs and/or kill you. Do you have a gun? You could also try shooting it off and hoping a zombie comes and finishes the job.
-
I can come kill your guy if you're close. Send me a message with your location and if its close to Berezino I will come fix your 'problem' for you. That is if some part of you is sticking out. Let me know, I'll be on for a little while longer and will be on tomorrow. You could also just stay logged in while you go to work or school and hope you starve to death or die of dehydration. Crazyandlazy definitely got the lazy part right. Read his whole post. He is stuck and can't move somewhere on the map...

I'm 6'6" and weigh 325lbs. Compared to the average person that would have made up the zombies in Chernarus, if I got turned I would be that 'oh shit' zombie. If I grabbed you, you would be done for and I would imagine that I could take a few more hits than a 5'6" 130 lb zombie. This could be done realistically by just adding a higher damage modifier and more health to a zombie with a larger model. I wouldn't want to see a 'Tank' or the big crazy ones from State of Decay that can blow up a car that runs into them but having different sized zombies would be awesome. I wouldn't make their speed any different as zombies don't seem to care about oxygen levels getting to their muscles and I would assume that most zombies, (those that weren't damaged), would all move at about the same speed. Next in the awesome category would be child zombies. Not that I want to kill a kid, but how terrifying would it be to have miniature zombies hiding in closets, in bushes or anywhere else for that matter. Way less damage to kill and do less damage and they would be an interesting addition.

Great guide for new players - tells you what each symptom means and how to cure!
hogscraper replied to marsmars's topic in New Player Discussion
He left out the most important part: Terminal Brain Flu. That just doesn't sound like any normal cold/virus I've heard of. Almost sounds like Meningitis. Awesome list, though! -
for dayz mod player , what do you love or hate about the SA ?
hogscraper replied to anis_tar's topic in New Player Discussion
I miss tents, road vehicles and hunting/cooking the most. Blood works a lot different in the mod but I miss being on death's door, finding a cow and finally seeing color once again. -
Sometimes item can still be picked up but you just have to find the right angle to try. Some things can also be dropped by players and end up in places that can't be picked up at all.

hahaha new bandit style. Handcuff someone and feed them everything the are carrying. Plus points for eventually having someone come across your corpse that has a gun and 14 bottles of disinfectant and wondering WTF is this world coming to.

You have flea markets near where you live? I have found quite a few old video games/systems/parts dirt cheap at those types of places.

Bought the game after watching a few videos.
hogscraper replied to Synnx's topic in New Player Discussion
You can find a lot of stuff around the map but you need to get full of water at a well, find some food and get moving North. Most of the cities in the middle of the map are untouched and many servers. -
Been alive for over a week now...
hogscraper replied to Liquid741 (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
Chernarus is part of the old Soviet Union so there should definitely be vodka laying around somewhere. The land was only modeled after part of the Czech Republic. I love the fact that everything is in Russian. The story is you have washed ashore and have no memory of how you got there. The fact that you can't read anything helps the feeling of disorientation. The Dayz mod got me to learn the Russian alphabet just so I could more easily tell where I was, (before I learned the map). Now when I'm watching movies like Night Watch its awesome being able to read a lot of the stuff that ends up sounding like its English counterpart. Like seeing something that I recognize then realizing what телефон means. -
lol awesome video. I haven't played anything but PC in a while but you get my beans for Salt and Vinegar chips. Best snack on the planet.

So.... you snipe people up this safe roof on cherno?
hogscraper replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in Gallery
I was thinking the same thing about the room across the way that has the perfect shooting view of that roof. -
There's a lot of different options out there and some have more inputs than others. Is this the type you were looking for? http://www.amazon.com/Composite-HDMI-Converter-Scaler-720p/sim/B00284T0QG/2 If possible I would just spend the extra money on one that has many inputs so you can kind of future proof your setup. Some receivers have these ability as well.
