Is it really worth buying Arma2 for the mod as well?

There are two expansion packs that give better graphics on character models. British Armed Forces gives you higher res textures on the ghillie suit and some military vehicles and gear and Private Military Company gives you much better character models and some clothes. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/131258-dayz-pmc-dlc-high-res-textures-pics/ This guy put up some different textures screens and when I installed them I think I stood looking at his new pants for five minutes. New games are better, but at the time I was definitely happy with my purchase. Almost a necessity at this date.

Is it really worth buying Arma2 for the mod as well?

Considering the lack of depth to SA right now I doubt the mod is in any danger of bleeding out any time soon. Whether or not its worth buying is up to you, though. I still play the mod.

when will base building start in the SA ?

Not soon enough I would imagine...

    Forest sighting

That would be amazing if he did that walk away, then promptly chased you down screaming.

    Admins on Epoch = Retards

There's a lot of crybabies out there, sadly. I've been banned from a couple servers for playing the game...

    Have map will travel.........unfortunately

Every road on the map will either lead to a dead end or a town eventually. You might be at the top of the map if you ran 45 minutes and didn't find anything but even if you were you could head south and will eventually find something you can relate to what you see on the map. Even having played quite a long time in Chernarus I've gotten turned around a couple times but its relatively easy to figure it out if you learn to translate what you see in game, (even if its a couple hills and a road), to what's in the map.

    Suicide buttom?

Which, again, only happened because YOU didn't properly prepare. Its one thing to not prepare, find yourself in a bad situation then have to be bothered with dealing with your mistakes. Asking the devs to make the game easier to fix YOUR mistakes or lack of preparation is just bad form. How could you possibly find yourself hours from a hospital if you didn't choose to go there without morphine? Would you travel to the far north of the map without food and water? Do you go to NWAF without a weapon? You could, but there are consequences that YOU and YOU alone need to deal with. Why did you have to crawl anywhere? Why couldn't you have just left your pc on while you went to school or work and let nature take its course instead of asking for an easily exploitable mechanic to be added to the game? I did just that the last time I fell through a floor and couldn't get out. It sucked, but I never even once thought about asking for a suicide button.
  8. Considering I hunt snipers for the losers they are, I would welcome any tool that would reliably put them in easy to find locations. If only there was a urination function for when I find them. I'm also sure bandits would love a map of all the best places to put tents as well... And since I really am serious in wanting to see this for all the easy kills it will bring my hero, you can easily research how to extract the data from BIS pbos and get the xyz data for pretty much any map. How you decide to parse that info into something meaningful is up to you. Hell, took five seconds to find this: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/34679-chernarus-height-map/ Please use this, distribute freely but use words like leet sniporz map or something so I get the most out of using it. Thanks!

    Why aren't PvE servers allowed?

While I couldn't care less that people want to play on pve only servers that isn't something that should be happening on the public hive and they should have their servers terminated for kicking people off for killing. If they could make it so those characters were unable to ever leave that server then I wouldn't care, but I wouldn't want to play a game knowing that I had to risk my ass for every piece of gear I had and perhaps lose it to someone that risked nothing. Server hopping is bad enough but at least those losers risk getting shot each time they spawn in. People that want pve only just need to be patient and run their servers when private hives are allowed. Until then, maybe grow some balls, group up in a 10-15 person squad and regulate your server the old fashioned way. Vigilante justice is the only justice you will have right now as there aren't any lazy options available within the rules.
  10. When all other things are considered, I choose not to stare at a man's ass all day. To each his own I guess. I think I randomly chose some white chick with a pony tail. Two minutes in and I had a gas mask so I couldn't tell you much more than that.

    Suicide buttom?

This is still not a good reason for a suicide button. Changing things for the SA in Alpha state shouldn't be done if upcoming patches will change those mechanics any way. How often will you ever be 'two hours' from a zombie once their numbers are increased? Even now two hours could get you from NWAF to Cherno. Worst case scenario you could come onto the forums and ask someone to come kill you in much less time. Trying to survive through anything makes life worth living. I had a shootout, in the mod, against three bandits and killed them all. I was bleeding and almost dead but I managed to bandage myself and started to eat some food when I got surrounded by zeds in Novy Sobor. Emptied my DMR, then was down to my last makarov mag when the last zombie broke my leg. I bandaged again and decided I wanted to live. It would have only taken me doing nothing but instead, that hour and half crawl, heart pounding black outs in bushes feet away from zombies, barely being able to see. That stands out as one of my favorite Dayz memories because I won that day. After that I will never take the easy way out, for any reason.
  12. Had a guy try to punch me and it only took one shot to the head to drop him.

    Chinese Food Shootout! [Video]

Yawn. TLDW Another group of well armed guys shooting everything that moves including players without firearms and one that tries to die for a better spawn...

    Suicide buttom?

This man speaks the truth! They do need to add a /stuck function or something, though. I have been in a few places and couldn't die. Ended up having to leave my character logged in while I went to work on the hopes that I would starve to death or die from dehydration before the server restarted. I am, however, willing to go through that bullshit every time to keep guys wanting an easy respawn from trying to cakewalk through the game.

Another good night in the woods

Nice! I love broadcasting locations of camps after killing a bandit.
  16. Why not just use the same way Arma3 does and have people laying prone blend into the ground so that even though the scoped in player doesn't see the grass, they still might have trouble spotting a player. The server would just have to add a variable as to whether or not the player should be camouflaged.
  17. Hetstaine is right, but that only really matters for people that play on those servers. I've played on and ran my own private servers nearly 100% of the time I played the mod. All it took was a week of hackers gone wild and I gave up on the public hive. The combat logging, ghosting and loot hopping are all being worked on with the same fix so that's not really an excuse for wanting a private hive. I want a private hive because it gives a much better sense of community. You have admins that can get rid of hackers/exploiters and it provides, (to me anyway), much more fun. Hunting that one SOB who killed me three or four times over the course of two weeks and finally shooting him in the back of the head with a lee enfield before I took his AS50, (I'm looking at you Turtle). Helping groups of new players and watching them form bandit groups or medic groups, watching that break apart when the entire server goes to war against each other. Fun nights with ATV races through the woods, Hunger Games style hunts around Devil's Castle, too much fun to list. You can't find that when you only run into random people every day. For the next few months as the game grows, its fun exploring all the new stuff. After a while, once survival becomes much easier, having a solid community to bond with over life and death just makes the game better to me. Just being able to edit the day/night cycle to an 18 hour day so I can play on a local server during the week and get a good mix of day and night and not just all of one or other is huge for me. I would never play on a 24/7 day server as I love night more, but not so much I don't ever want to see the sun.

    HELP ME D:

You need to first just let you guy vomit out the water you drank. Then you need to wait until it says you're starving then eat just a few things. If you vomit, wait just a little bit and eat some more. Eventually you will stop vomiting and will need to eat a ton to keep from dying. It sucks and is a huge waste of food, but that's how I ended up surviving when I drank too much. I did eat some rice among the other foods, not knowing about the -1000 water, so maybe that helped as well.

Fix (not remove) Third Person Perspective

There are zero balance issues created playing the game EXACTLY as the devs have created it. YOU want to change the game into a 'diluted experience of what the devs intended' by limiting players' choices and then feel the need to water it down even more by 'balancing' the game to cater to your own self-imposed weaknesses. You chose to play only in 1pp and have crippled yourself. Instead of realizing the game is different from what you want it to be you seem completely willing to insult people who enjoy playing the game EXACTLY as the devs created and intended. Or are you suggesting that the devs intended for us to only use 1pp and are too stupid to know how to implement it? To say I would get more from less when you can't possibly even begin to know what I look for in a game is obnoxious and narcissistic. Its the same argument people who play COD 'pro mod' use. They can't or don't want to deal with the game the way it was made so they act like people are just too stupid to realize how great their watered-down experience is. That's not pro, its handicapped and I don't want to play a game that forces everyone down to the lowest common denominator. Just because you can't handle the stress of knowing that at any second an unknown, unseen player might be watching you is your problem to deal with, not mine. Imagine playing any one of those games you mentioned where any of the npcs could near instantly kill you, with no defense possible, from angles or locations that you couldn't see, even with a free camera. That's right, you did imagine it, and realized it completely killed the entire argument you were trying to make so you added 'disregarding pvp'. What version of Dayz do you play where you can disregard pvp? If you can't then just delete that paragraph entirely. "This is supposed to be a SURVIVAL horror game". There, I fixed that for you. I can see where you might be confused as to why someone playing a SURVIVAL game would not want to lose a huge part of being able to survive if you think the game was meant to be horror first and survival second.

Fix (not remove) Third Person Perspective

I've been playing in the Arma engine for a while now and will always pass on 1pp servers every time. The devs made the game to be played a certain way and I enjoy the benefits and the feel of 3rd person perspective. Why do people keep crying for the devs to force a certain play style on everyone? They are already working on hardcore servers where 1pp will likely be enforced. Wait for that and only play there. Or wait for private hives and find one that has 1pp only setup on it.
  21. I know you can hit P to see what players are there, does that show the server as well?

Mine - Cave - Underground structure

Amazing base building opportunities right there. I would love to see this eventually. Or even sewers in the main cities.
  23. They definitely should not 'fix' this. Right now, in the current state of the game it seems like a problem, but its intended to help you against zombies. Being able to knock out a zombie when you don't have a weapon will become invaluable when their numbers get increased. Also, why on Earth would you ever let someone you didn't know get that close to you? They don't need to be near you to talk and if you are helping them you can always drop gear on the ground and back away.

Disable log out in / near buildings

Why would you want this? If its to combat people running into a building and logging out, they are working on their combat logging fix as we speak. Outside of that context I'm not sure why you would want this. As you log into the game, its a bit disorienting and you need to get your bearings quick while hoping there aren't any zombies or players that saw you before you even got in game and are coming to kill you. That's why its nearly always the best bet to hide inside a house when you log out. Not sure why you would want to force people to only log out in the open.

    Ella's standalone guide

Few suggestions: Spelling mistakes: things that are not workin: fitreplaces The reason people are thinking you just cut and pasted this information from other sites while not crediting them is because every spelling mistake you made is shown to you while you're typing. If you choose not to right click those terms and fix them, (if you aren't sure how to correctly spell them), then expect people to think you are not being honest or being lazy. Its the tradeoff from claiming to be the best ever but not fixing even small mistakes. The best ever wouldn't do that. Things you may want to add: Learning prominent landmarks and how they relate to other areas Differences between sprinting, jogging, walking, crawling and lying still both day and night and how that affects zombie aggro How to lose zombies or best ways to deal with them in cities and in the forest If you don't want to come off as a noob, don't use the word Bambi. I get that you use it because you watched some entertaining guy on YT use it but that guy isn't well liked by a lot of people who aren't noobs here. (If you ask why you will derail your own thread so just search the forums if you want to know why people laugh at you for using that word). No one gets a thread stickied anywhere unless someone other than the OP asks for it. Making a pretentious claim at being the best ever shows a lack of modesty. Maybe you intended only to eventually become that at some point in the future with the community's help, but claiming it up front is a bad start. Asking for your not the best ever guide at this point to be stickied is also bad form. You don't get to decide that your work is so great that other people will most certainly find value in it. Other people, who find value in it already, can ask for it. You have a great idea, but something like this isn't ever going to be a one person job or even proper for a forum post. Make a Google doc, or create it as a webpage and work on formatting a proper user guide. Invite friends or people that know a lot about the game to work on it with you. Make a 200 plus page masterpiece, then humbly submit it to the demi-gods who run this website. Humbly prostrate yourself before their infinite magnificence and you might find yourself a place in the pantheon.
