The mouse acceleration in this game is horrible...

I have Win7 with pointer speed set to max and my mouse is running at 2000 dpi. I know that's not the highest value but compared to my old generic mouse its much faster. Maybe they built/tested it with higher dps mice and you have a very low one? No idea really, just guessing but I an't say that I would really want my character to turn any faster than he already does.

What do you think of weapon rarity

Oh damn, I almost forgot about the junk. So many of these complainers are gonna flip out when they find twenty empty tin cans before they see their first can of beans.

What do you think of weapon rarity

I've only played on one server the entire time I've played and have found at least two dozen m4s and maybe five or six mosins. One M4 was at Balota, one was at the military base just NW of there, and at least a dozen were in the building that people used to call the school or office. I found two at NWAF after a restart, which happened to be the only time I went there. That's also not counting the dozens I've found on the corpses of idiots playing bandit who shot at me and died. What does it say about your play style when you claim you HAVE to server hop to find one when I find them all over the map. Are you not leaving the coast at all? I could see by 'playing the game' you mean spawning, rushing Balota then only roaming the coast killing fresh spawns. Mosins came in a couple different variations depending on whether they were standard infantry issue or sniper issue and took different rounds in each variation. For OP, I think the game could do with a lot less of the 'I need an automatic weapon to play' type players. I've gone weeks on one life in the mod with a lee enfield. Right now they need lots of guns in order to test what they need to test. Once they drop a few hundred times more zombies it will make for a better experience in 'survival' having less automatic and military grade weapons.
  4. Spears would be awesome! The one thing I would love to see in this game that I don't know is possible in enough time for this game to still be relevant, is total freedom in crafting. I've always wanted a video game that had crafting that could craft pretty much anything you could think of. Know the recipe for dynamite and have the right gear and chemicals; done. Want to make some crazy contraption a la Garry's Mod that is physically possible to make; done. I know its not a possibility but they really should have an incredibly in depth crafting system. This was already done when they added 1pp only option for servers.

    Museum

I don't think a place like Chernarus would have that big of a cultural side. Its mostly rural and their cities seem very basic. At best I could see a small museum dedicated to WWII as the Russians played a huge part in that war, but I doubt you could arm up at a place like that. Its not like they have more than a few bullets for guns in museums or even keep them in firing condition. It would be pretty funny to have this in game, have players think they hit the motherload then have both their hands blown off when they try to fire the old ass Type 96 they found with seventy year old rounds. Seriously, though, even at military bases in game most things have been looted so there wouldn't be much reason to have many weapons at all left over that were functional in a place like that. It could work as a place to have varied melee loot spawn, like maybe you find one sword, then next restart a spear or knife, next restart one of the vehicles has a few parts you could scavenge, next restart parts for some other type of crafting, something like that. If they are planning a really large city in the North it could be the cultural center of the country so who knows. Sounds interesting to just have a backdrop of stuffed tigers, polar bears and such while avoiding zombies.

Could DayZ be done better on a different engine?

I think Dayz could be way better in certain ways if done in other engines but what would it lose? Using another engine isn't as easy as dropping a mod on top of it, you have to completely relearn everything about that engine. That takes time for your engineers and that costs money. You would have to re-make every asset you already have made so it was compatible then every line of code would have to be re-written. After all that time working towards your final release you then might find out this other engine can't do certain things. You would also no longer be the owner of the engine your game runs on. All reasons why they chose to build on what they already have instead of buying into someone else's regime and possibly finding out five years in that the engine is no longer supported or upgraded. What most people seem to miss is that when a BIS game loads a map, it loads the whole thing. The bubble they made is allowing players a better experience by not having the client need to know where all 10,000 items plus zombies plus other players are but it still loads ALL of the geometry, and the server still has to deal with all that information at once. A game like Just Cause 2, (mentioned above), has a HUGE map around four times the land space and six times bigger overall as Chernarus, but most of that land is empty. NPC's on the ground don't exist until they come into your 'bubble' and there aren't tens of thousands of individual items and assets to keep track of. You could NEVER make a map that big for use in Dayz. The number of items and zombies in the map is what determines server load and therefore determines your experience playing lag free. Would you want a map four times bigger with the same amount of items and zombies? Eighty large cities like Elektro with the same amount of loot and zombies as one of the small villages? Again, we come back to starting from scratch or building on what you already have and how much it costs either way. They could probably make a new Chernarus, that is four times bigger, with empty expanses everywhere like deserts or mountain ranges that serve no purpose but filler but would that make the game better? Even with 100 players how boring would the game get if you had to walk four hours through desert landscape with no npcs, loot or buildings to hook up with some friends?

    Had Nothing to Do...

I love that you grouped everything by type of loot. I did this in Krasnostav and probably ten people started to come in, backed away and took off. Was too damn funny that the game has made so many people paranoid that they ran away from a loot stockpile. Like mice, as soon as something in their environment seemed strange and out of place they just ran.
  9. I would imagine that being BIS, they will treat this like their other releases. Arma3 was very bare when you could first 'buy in'. They will probably do the same things, (they have already started the pattern), release a few guns, items and clothing now, make sure the base functionality of these items work then release large content patches, with 80-90% of what's left, over time until Beta milestone. Beta is where they have the majority of the content in and want to see testing of everything. They shift to mostly patching functionality at that point but will still be adding smaller chunks of content along the way. The release patch will probably also have some 'final' stuff that adds a few more cooler items to the game. I could be very far off here but it does look like they are working the same pattern they used for Arma3.

    Door opening/closing animation

Didn't they just hire a full time sound engineer to redo the sounds in the game? Hopefully those sound effects are on his list of things to do. While very low on my priority list, I do think not just door animations, but all character animations, are something that needs to be addressed. I'm sure its on the list of things to do but its not net-code and server stabilization so its probably not on the top of their list. They are releasing their roadmap of what is in the works and what needs done later this month so we should have a better picture then of when these needed changes will be coming.

    Realism gripe

That's the tradeoff they had to make to ensure every noob in the game didn't go straight in, make a female character then drop all their clothes on the ground laughing about boobs. While most of us couldn't care less, there would still, instantly be hordes of naked players running around towns and that would be far greater to the not-realistic side.

Trying to feed people at Kamyshovo...

IF you are willing to let a player within punching distance expect them to punch you. If you are armed, just make them wait a few yards away. Drop the food on the ground and back away. I help people all the time and I shoot people in the face that I could have helped because they chose to get to close after I told them to stay back.

    Bandits are BORING!

So many threads of 'I have many friends but we always die to bandits'. You do realize you could kill them first, right? Players with guns DO NOT approach other groups of players unless they intend on a gun fight breaking out. Shoot the first one you see then tell the others to get on the ground and they might live. Shoot another just for the hell of it then shoot the rest if they aren't already running or face down in the dirt. Guess what those corpses aren't going to do. Kill you and your friends. I don't pick fights but I always try to end them in my favor and a guy with a gun even walking towards my character is asking for a fight. So many threads of 'I lost my precious loot'. You do realize at this point in the mod finding gear and killing people are the only two options, right? And one always leads to the other. Actually I forgot the time tested hide in the woods until you need food or water approach. You could try that. My current character hasn't died in two weeks. Been roaming the map, scavenging for supplies, killing zombies, killing asshats that fire their guns at me and the second I die, I will keep on trucking. Couldn't care less. Now that I'm thinking about it, I would like to talk about something meaningful; How awesome scars would be on our characters. I have been shot by over a dozen people, hit with an axe, punched by twenty+ zombies and three players, faced starvation twice, fell out of a window and broke my leg, tripped on a tree trunk and broke my leg, got hit with an axe and slid down a mountain side, broke my leg and was as close to death as you can get and old girl is still alive. I would love to see how jacked up my character is. I bet her face would look like Rocky Marciano.

    m4 spawn nerf too much?

Luckily the Dayz Karma gods blessed me as I am not some loser server hopper and found three of them on the same server. Logged in at Berezino and found three on my way to NWAF. That would be an amazing fix, to be honest. The game sees that you logged into 2+ servers near military gear and flags you so you can never see an M4 again until you die. Praise be the karma!

    Compass always wrong?

Actually, I was wrong. I have north and east that didn't combine. Had to check to be sure.

    Improv Door Locks

For in-swinging doors just a log propped under the door knob could keep anyone, (player or zombie), from getting in. Either way that would be an awesome use of the sticks. I do believe you can combine sticks and rags to make a splint for a broken leg. Not 100% sure as I've only heard people talk about it on here and never seen in game. I wonder when you can barricade house, would this include barricading someone else inside?

What can we expect after streamers? Long post

I must be lucky. I don't run into any kids at all in COD, BF4 or Dayz. I also instantly turned in game comms completely off in COD and BF4 before I even changed any key bindings so maybe that helps a ton. I also try not to think of all the idiots trying to mimic what some guy on YT does because being a soulless asshole gets him more views. I definitely hope those noobs keep coming into Dayz, though, because I have killed more bandits in SA than the last six months in the mod. SO MANY people try to shoot me, miss, then promptly die to my bullets. I love these new players trying to KOS in the SA.

Haven't yet seen this bug yet. I did find NE and E parts of the map but they wouldn't combine.

    My last 24 hours...

You get beans just for the name reference. Loved that scene. Cool story of your Dayz journey. If only there was kung fu and dodging bullets I would join you at your monastery. If you ever need help, or find yourself in a bind, though, let me know on Steam>>hogscraper.

    Realism gripe

You can't find the loot because its already gone. Most of the houses north of the coast are untouched on many servers. I never find anything close to spawn. As for combat realism its more that you aren't hitting them in the head and the melee system needs more work. The hammer is almost impossible to kill someone with because few blows will land and its damn near impossible to land a head shot from what I've seen. You talk about realism but I doubt you've ever seen someone fight with something like a pipe wrench. Fighting with something like that is almost guaranteed to get your ass stomped by someone using their fists. No one is going to stand there trading blows with you and its not like you will ever hit anything but their body or their arms. I've seen some crazy ass fights on the street and only once did I see a guy get hit in the head with anything. Since you can't dodge all that well in the game, and since you can't tackle a guy with a pipe wrench and ram your thumbs in his eyes, its the compromise they have to make.
  22. Good story, man. Its definitely something that gets the heart pounding just trying to survive. Hopefully you learned the lesson of stay away from Balota if possible. I have 19 kills atm from guys who I didn't shoot until they decided to shoot at me first. Probably passed by/talked to double that amount that didn't try to shoot me the instant they saw me. Just because barret_kills does it himself doesn't mean everyone does. Just stay away from the military bases and the 'starter' cities and you should find a lot more players that aren't douche bags only playing to kill.

    I'm a dirty little hoarder

Because some people couldn't care less about killing people. One mag in my gun and one extra is all I ever carry to defend myself against bandits. Has been enough to take down three people in the same fight and I found plenty more on their corpses. All my other spots are for whatever random stuff I find.

    Stashing stuff

There was a long crafting suggestion thread and I put this idea out there. Definitely would be awesome. Would also add usefulness to those yellow military boxes you see in the SA to keep things from degrading. I also had an idea for using a tarp and rope to hoist a bag of loot up into a tree. Hopefully they go back to that thread and check out the stuff that was voted up. Lots of good ideas in there for storage techniques.

when will base building start in the SA ?

I mostly agree with Mzly on this one. One thing I saw on a regular server with just a few extra scripts was just another item you could deploy like tank-trap kits and barbed wire. It was a simple wooden barricade, taller than the player model and maybe three to four feet wide. Just adding those three items would make bases possible. Being able to fortify a house would be awesome. I haven't checked out all the old spots, but there were quite a few places around the map that are off the beaten path, contain structures of different kinds and with some barricades could be made into great bases. One was NW of NWAF, I think, and it had a two story bunker type building and some tents around it. Another is along a logging road and was just a little shack that could easily be fortified. Even places with rock piles could be cordoned off to make a base. That's what type of bases I think should be possible. Not even interested in Rust type shanty towns popping up all over the place. Besides adding to server load they just aren't necessary. These three items would be easy to add and if done after server hopping/combat logging is fixed would be an awesome idea.
