Night time should be toned down

I'd love to see the night stay the way it is. Just remove nvg and thermals from the game and fix flashlights. When someone can use a couple items in the game to not just gain an advantage, but an insurmountable advantage its just breaking the game. I always laugh when people cry 'don't try to make me play the game the way you want me to play', well I feel the same way.

    Thoughts on the M107 / AS50

Wouldn't mind seeing all sniper rifles toned down in their spawn rates. Hit three heli crash sites yesterday and saw two 107's.
  3. I know this thread is pretty old, but I was wondering if you could do a lot of things as a feedback system and only if you used a certain mouse wheel menu. Say you're in a forest and the wheel menu has a choice, look for tracks. You spend x amount of time looking, then the game shows you any tracks that are there and how old they are. After a certain amount of time or after rain, the tracks just disappear. This would make it so only a person actively looking for certain things would ever notice them. After a short time, you would have to spend more time trying to see them. I've hunted most of my life, and until someone showed me what to look for, deer tracks were irrelevant marks in the dirt. This same system could allow you to investigate all sorts of things. What direction a hunter moved towards after slaughtering an animal or even blood on their shoes after looting a body they just killed. If its raining, you could easily follow tire tracks of the vehicle you had stashed that was stolen if you got there soon enough. Not sure what cataloging all of this information would do to a server, but I love the idea and what it could add to the game.
  4. I like where this idea comes from, but in order to lock a person into light/dark based on what their own timezone would make it impossible to play together for people half a world a part. Some of my friends I play with are in Eastern Europe. If they are still awake when I get off work in USA EST, we would have zero chance to ever play together as our local servers are only synced in day/night for very short periods of time. I come home and my local time is light, they are looking at midnight or past their local time and would be locked into dark. I'm also not sure what the ramifications of locking my character to only one server would impose on friends being able to play together either. Being able to find a non-full server for five or so people is pretty easy right now as you just look in the list. If my guy can only load on one server, I'm totally against that. I have had to abandon a few characters on private hives that grew to high traffic servers as it was very hard to get in when I have the time to play and impossible for a group of us to get together. If you divided the world up into twelve 2 hour chunks or six 4 hour chunks and had all servers in those locations have unique characters, that would make more sense and I wouldn't mind having to gear up two or three guys instead of a dozen. The bigger problem with night time is trying to balance it against the needs of the new with the needs of people that have been playing a while. Getting rid of nvg and thermal might be the only way to balance this. At present, there is zero reason for a new player or a fresh spawn to want to play at night. Anything they can use to see is an instant beacon for anyone with a decent rifle. There is no sneaking if you can't see without the flashlight/flare/chem light and there is no living if anyone else can see you with it. I would love to see night time strictly enforced when its time for that server to be night, but only if I can at least have moon light or if no scopes worked with them. I'm not sure there is a fix here that wouldn't radically change the game.

Hacker Prevention - A Rather Simple Solution

I thought you could use a battleeye command to see everyone's guid. Isn't that constant regardless of what name they are using? People in a lot of games press the report button every time they get killed. If you're asking Bohemia to pay for someone to receive these reports, investigate then act on them you have to justify the expense since it won't be relevant when SA is released. I was close to quitting this game because of hackers but ended up finding a couple of private servers that have active admins. All servers may have someone paying for them, but to act like doing so should put that person at your beck and call is doesn't work. Since rolling back servers or giving loot away is against the rules, it still only limits their ability to being able to mitigate further damage by making sure that person can't come back. I've run servers for CSS, BO1 and a few other games, and my ability to get into game or console to deal with someone in a timely fashion is limited to a few hours a day. I can't do it while I'm at work or out with my family and won't do it while I'm sleeping. I would agree that people being at least more active in patrolling their servers would go a long way towards helping control hacking, but everything I've heard comes back to them saying that hacking will become a non-issue once SA goes live.
  6. Zombies are a joke. After I find a hatchet, it doesn't matter if every zombie in Cherno comes after me. A bush, a tree or a wall with a hole at the bottom is all I need to survive. Zombies need a massive increase in AI, pathing, health or all of the above if they are ever going to be a threat to anyone but noobs fresh off the coast. This should be step one in making the game more exciting. Step two is removing every weapon in the game with an effective range over 200-300m. I don't care if it has a scope or not, being able to kill with little to no risk to yourself has ruined this game for most people who aren't assholes and many more who have just given up. Most of the people sniping aren't even the assholes. They're just reacting to a situation that they have no control over. Everything else they could be doing is superseded with find a sniper rifle, kill everyone else on sight or be killed yourself. Survival is a moot point now that the number of people with snipers has gotten out of hand. The problem here is once it starts, there is ZERO reason to do anything else unless you really want to die and lose what you have found. Lets be honest here, most people coming to these forums aren't just noobs trying to get by so I want to ask, how many of you have snipers or make it a priority to find one when you don't? Every one of us that knows what's good for them, usually. Its a downward spiraling trend that takes every single other fun thing in this game and makes it irrelevant. Most people don't need to go into cities after they gear up and don't even do it when they need to because you rarely die to a foe you can see in this game. I would like to see every weapon in this game with an effective range over a couple hundred meters removed entirely. Besides being a coward or a dick or trying to protect yourself from those types, what purpose do they serve except to make everything else you could be doing less fun? I was in a fire fight in Electro a long ass time ago that raged on forever. At least long enough that those of us that died respawned, ran back and were going after each other with hatchets. I haven't come close to that level of excitement in a long time. Since then I've watched this game get more and more boring as people do less and less outside of hiding and sniping people. Servers with an over-abundance of sniper rifles get less and less populated over time for the most part except for the few where these types of players congregate. Look at how many people cry on these and other forums because they give players all the guns and cars they could ever want but no one bothers to keep showing up because the game boils down to that one thing. Do I think I'll ever convince a coward to man up and come get me? Never. A guy who's ever sucker punched someone doesn't magically gain the ability to man up and fight someone unless they are made to. Do I think that if enough people make their complaints known that it might affect a change in this game? Maybe.

Make it harder to kill both zombies and players

My problem isn't with the weapons per se, its a two fold problem of 1. Sniper rifles are supposed to the rarest guns in the game. 2. Only once, out of all my deaths on public servers, did I die to a gun that was not a sniper and that was in a large battle in Electro between half the server. If they are supposed to be rare, why is every single person that wants one, running around with one? Its because as soon as you pick one up from a heli crash site, there's still a possibility of them to drop forever after every server restart. For every person that kills a sniper, that gun is most likely going to stay in circulation until the number of people carrying them far exceeds the number that should be in the game. This leads to the current situation of people not really playing the game to survive but to get as many easy kills as possible. I've seen the populations of multiple private hives crash to almost nothing. Look at how many servers sit nearly empty. A lot of them are servers that have accelerated this with FOB's and higher spawn locations/rates. Eventually, the entire game comes down to: Find a sniper rifle Hide somewhere and use third person view to make sure your victim cannot possibly even see you while you wait for an easy kill. I didn't come to my feelings about this from dying to a sniper, I came to it from using a sniper rifle. Doing what everyone else does and getting some easy kills from the hilltop north of Electro. After a couple kills as I'm thinking about how I'm able to play this way, I actually felt angry that the game had such a cheap mechanic. It took a hell of a lot of willpower to force myself not to keep doing just that to the exclusion of everything else the game has to offer. People start harassing me about the 'realism' of not limiting weapons, but seem to gloss over the fact that there are more sniper weapons and rounds on any given server than in the entirety of any military installation out there. They are the best guns in the game so anyone that finds one will use it. And sorry to break it to the leet omg you're so awesome players, having a guy with NVG shooting his DMR and nailing a fresh kill on a beach breaks the entire 'try and survive' aspect of the game. You were given no visual or audio cues that you were about to die and therefore ZERO ability to avoid it. This is why I posted in another thread about liking the random, across the map spawn points. I want bandits on the servers I play on. I just want them to have to work for their kills instead of easily picking off a hatchet wielding guy from 800 meters out just because its the easiest option the game made available. And I do get it. People have gotten used to these easy kills and will say and do anything to be able to keep getting them.

    DayZ Devblog 25 Jan 2013

So long as you're talking real realism and not fake realism so that you would have to shoot several hundred rounds of ammo from that same gun in the same life in order to be able to hit that target from any range other than point blank. You die, and you get to train with that sniper for another hundred hours in game to hit anything far enough away to qualify as a precision sniper. I'm all for this realism you're talking about. Go to a gun range some time and watch a noob try to shoot a .45 at a target twenty feet away. Their bullet spread is measured in yards.

Make it harder to kill both zombies and players

That list is showing just how few people in the US armed forces are capable of shooting sniper rifles effectively enough to earn the name sniper. What are you going on about? If you're going to troll, at least make sense. And to Enforcer, I would prefer a hard cap based on percentage of total players instead of removal of stashes. If you got rid of stashes you would have to add in instant-removal of corpse and gear as well. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense considering you can get a ride back to your corpse that gets you re-equipped just as fast as heading to a tent somewhere with more gear in it.

Spawn in random buildings/houses around the map

I really like this idea! If they are adding in a bunch of different ways to customize your player's gear they could use this mechanic as the way to have a lot of different options floating around out there. I think they should limit starting customization to face and hair/facial hair then let you find other things to look the way you want instead of just granting you this look as you spawn. Since you have amnesia and have no idea where you are or how you got there it would also work having the server randomly decide those two things for you. It would also make it so there are way too many spots to camp with your sniper rifle in an attempt to kill someone who just spawned into the game. Been on a couple servers where bigger bandit clans just drive up and down the beach looking for fresh spawns to run down and would love to see this implemented just to lower the ability to grief new players.

Make it harder to kill both zombies and players

'Genuine realism' is that that very few of the best trained people on the planet can effectively shoot a sniper rifle at long ranges. Total people in the US Army ~1,000,000 Snipers in the US Army ~1,000 Total people in the US Marines ~250,000 Snipers in the Marines ~300 That's not guns, that's people trained and qualified to shoot a sniper rifle at the ranges the guns in Dayz are capable of. The 'genuine realism' you speak of would be 1 out of 1,000 players being able to ever get the chance at picking one up and firing it accurately. The real problem is, with multiple servers spawning them, at some point in the game, you still will reach the end result of everyone who wants a sniper rifle having one unless you hard cap the total number of them by percentage of people playing. Krisz2 also so wisely says, "I hate it when game companies assign how people should play the game I like dayz because it allows people to play how they want to play with genuine realism that is what it is" That's what I feel like being forced to play a game where zero of my deaths have come from a firearm that was not a sniper rifle. 'Realism', genuine or not, is not that any average person who picks up a m107 has even so much as a chance in hell at hitting a human sized target even at 250 meters. A decade ago I trained people at a local range in rifle accuracy for hunting and the average person with no training that came to me still couldn't hit a deer sized target, using an AR15, with any amount of consistency, even at 50 meters. If you've been hunting most of your life you could hit that target at 100-200 meters but not every bullet will hit it every time and personally 250-300 meters is about the max I will bother shooting. I can hit a deer from that far with a 30.06 but not every time in a lethal spot and I've been shooting guns since I was six years old. My rounds also have an estimated effective range of about 1,000 meters. I get that most people playing this game don't want realism. They throw that around as an excuse to cover up wanting to take the easy way out. Sniping is the easiest way of killing and most people don't want to lose their gear so they flock to it. I've played on a private hive that had zero sniper rifles and the gun battles I had there were epic. So much more fun having a chance to defend yourself and actually having to think instead of shoot everything that moves with little risk to yourself that Dayz has become.
  12. I know I'm in the minority as most players want as easy a kill as possible but I won't be buying SA most likely. The vanilla game has turned into sniper wars, and no matter how few spawn on a server, eventually they will be everywhere. It completely ruins the games by having nearly every death you incur come from a guy you never had a chance to fight back against. I wish they would remove them entirely and force players that want to kill their fellow players at least get their hands dirty and work for that kill. If you give a player the option to kill a guy from 800m with little to no risk to themselves that's what they will go for every time.

What if we removed the crosshair?

I haven't played on public hives but once or twice in a long time since I die too much to hackers. Because of this I have ended up playing mostly without my crosshair on the screen on a couple private hives. The last time I was on public server, though, it really jumped out at me just how much easier it was to shoot guns with it on screen and it felt cheap. I'm all for removing them just to make people think a little more about where they're about to put that bullet. And Logan23, I check my gear at times to see the amount of ammo in my various clips. I like that every time you reload it just grabs the next full clip and puts the empty one back in your back. Makes you pay a little more attention to it.

    Railgun?

Sounds pretty much like what your average player feel about sniper rifles...

    What do players REALLY want?

Hmm, tried adding your server 173.193.48.140:3306 showing 10000 ping and can't get in. Gametracker showing its online but can't seem to connect.
  16. They should definitely keep it so there are consequences or rewards for your actions but make them more defined and expansive. Make it so a hero cannot become a hero unless he is medicating/using a blood bag on someone that was injured by a bandit. Zombies are a central part of the game and I don't like that someone can become a hero for no other reason than playing the game as intended. Hero skins should come from being a hero. A bandit using a blood bag on his bandit friend should not gain humanity either.
  17. Two times recently the game trolled me hard enough that it made me want to uninstall. First one I was bored so I start exploring the map. I find this rusty, half sunken ship off the coast to the north east of the map. I figure if the map maker put it there he must have wanted people to check it out. I swim out to it and five feet away my leg breaks then I instantly die. My longest played, most kitted out guy was recently in a vehicle driving north out of Electro heading towards Berezino. Everyone else in the server had logged out as it was getting late, (local time), and I just wanted to look for a tent before I logged out myself. Then, for no reason, my car explodes. Fully green, open road and it just explodes with no one else on the server. As I'm yelling WTF? I realize that I didn't die. I was low enough on blood that my screen was going out of focus and I couldn't stand up without being knocked out. I logged out for the night and the next day spend around three hours crawling on my stomach looking for food to eat or a car to put my gear in. I finally make it to Berezino, find a car and get in. As I switch to the passenger seat to access the gear section the server freezes and kicks everyone off. After waiting for a restart I log in standing in the vehicle then instantly die.

    What do players REALLY want?

I would say I have to agree for the most part with these guys. I don't like joining a server where you're hand is held. The real problem you face, is that people are split and you will never please everyone. Some people will never want to play a game like Dayz because in vanilla, its hard. For some its impossible for them to grasp why anyone would want to be challenged. Too many people want their hand held. I wish someone would make their server even harder. No flying vehicles, no thermals, no sniper rifles, no nvg and zombies that don't give a crap that you're hiding in a bush/tree. That would be my ideal place to play. Listening to me though, will instantly turn off 95% of the players of this game but that's my point altogether.

    Rules of Engagment

I was a care free bambi trying to make my way by doing the right thing on a whitelisted server since I was told there were fewer assholes there. Then I died multiple times to people driving up and down the coast running over newly spawned players. Now I think my ROE are a little more straight forward: Did I see you first and are you wearing anything but a hero skin? Is my weapon capable of killing you without a prolonged hunt? You're dead,
