I've never understood hoarders in this game, and assume they are only collecting it to keep others from having it. I definitely agree with other posters with one exception. If there is a dedicated medic on our server, who's only goal is helping anyone that asks, I usually try to find out if its their camp first. If its not, I take everything I can in the best vehicle there and put up a marker to let everyone in the server know its there. Then, after I'm well out of the area I start broadcasting to the server what all is there. I have scoped in from afar and watched some truly epic battles take place when a decent population on a server all rush to grab what they can. Actually pretty entertaining.

You need to find a private hive that caters to you. Public servers are so full of hackers, most people play to kill right away, (at least that's my experience from the public hives I have joined). There's still killing on private servers but you seem to find people more organized and less willing to be douche bags if they have a community they care about.

It may, Fraggle. I had this happen to a biplane that I crashed. Every time I looked in its general direction these giant triangles would form, from its location to mine. I have a GTX 660 Ti with 3 gigs of vram that is fairly new, and when I restarted the game they went away. Has only happened twice and both times when I crashed a vehicle. Looks the same as his problem graphically, but was not instant upon launch or persistent after restart.

Performance might be the main reason. I read in an post on a Arma2 map making site that the number of types of trees/bushes impacts performance greatly. Maybe getting of one type of tree and swapping them for a larger bush that could break up lines of sight better would impact the forests in a better way. Adding zombie spawns would probably work as well to eliminate the safe feeling or maybe an animal that could attack you instead of blindly standing there eating grass. Packs of dogs feral dogs or wolves would be interesting.

I play on multiple servers and sometimes I play as a hero, sometimes I play as a bandit. I have honor in real life and that doesn't magically go away when I play a video game. People who claim that how they play doesn't reflect on who they really are just don't want others to think that they actually are callous pieces of shit in real life. Someone who isn't a racist isn't going to throw racist terms around side chat when they get mad. Someone who doesn't gain satisfaction from the pain of others sees no reason to snipe a guy who just spawned. When a person first launches Dayz, they have no idea what's going and most likely have no idea what they are supposed to do. Once you find a decent weapon, what you do with weapon and how you act within the confines of what the game allows you to do is a direct reflection of who you really are as a person. Claiming otherwise just makes you look bad. I don't think anyone in this game who has shot a bunch of pixels with their gun-shaped blob of pixels is a murderer. I do think someone who does things, that they know causes unnecessary emotional harm to another player, does so because doing so is its own reward to them. The problem with talking shit to a guy like Gonzo, is that without people like him, those little bambies bandits enjoy killing wouldn't be playing for long. That's why I choose to fight nihilism in any form. It serves no purpose except to hurt a server's population and without people to help or to kill, there isn't much reason to play Dayz.

If you are playing on a server where you start without a hatchet, you need to look ahead before going anywhere. If you see zombies more than 300m away from you, someone else is there and you should assume they are armed. It may take some time to remember them all, but always look ahead for buildings that have multiple entrances, the bigger the better. Once you get a hatchet start looking for the nearest pine tree or large bush as well as the building with multiple entraces. Always knowing where you can run when the crap hits the fan is the most important thing you can know. If you don't have a weapon within the first thirty minutes of play you're doing something wrong. Within that amount of time you can run from the coast to Starry Sobor and probably pass a dozen or more weapons just in that straight line.

warranted in killing a player?
hogscraper replied to recklesspanz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you play on a server that hunts down bandits you probably shouldn't have been so jumpy. There were two of you, one of him, he didn't fire first and you killed him. That's what bandits do. -
That maturity level is one of the primary reasons I fight against even having sniper rifles in the game. I have yet to see an adult yelling umad over side chat when they kill someone. Its also usually some little kid being a douche in chat when he snipers a fresh spawn on the coast. With reduced heli crash sites due to a lot of servers doing frequent restarts I've seen the crying levels skyrocket among these same people since the last patch. Its not that killing or being a douche was ever the problem but rather how easy the mod seemed to make it for any preteen to do.

It takes 50 to fill the little bird. 2 might get you to the south side of Krasnostav. If you get it at least to where the fuel level is green you should be able to get it to a safer fuel tank. Just watch the fuel as you go and you should be fine.

I am really liking the new update! I hope you really aren't planning on nerfing the zombies back from what they are. Because most people in this game have decided their end game is to murder every player they see, they can't be bothered by having to take their time around zombies. They want their military loots and they want them now! Its amazing how many people I see crying on servers because their DMR brought more zombies out of town than they could kill. You can still sprint through any city in this game and not have to kill a single zombie. People are just used to being able to freely fire their guns anywhere at any time. I think they just need practice in patience and using their heads instead of their guns. The one thing that surprised me, and that I like because of the added danger, is that even though zombies can't run inside, their aggro distance is so high that running into a building can result in the zombies pouring in any and all entrances to that building. People need to fear the zombies, not just laugh at how easy it is to avoid them.

I might not be playing the game right....

No matter what your personal 'end game' is, having someone around you can trust makes everything a lot easier. The problem is, finding that person. Every server I play on I end up finding a player or group to hang with. Sometimes they're heroes and sometimes they're bandits but every time I die quite a few times before I find someone that likes the style of play that I like and doesn't kill me the second they see me. A lot people get bored easily and will tell you to stop lone gunning it, but if that's what you really like, stick with it. While its easier to get ahead with someone watching your back, you definitely don't have to have it. -
One thing I think is definitely broken is that they stop 30-40 feet away from a vehicle like a biplane and break your leg in one hit. I always carry morphine but its still kind of messed up. Gas leaking from a heli because the windshield is broken is also kind of weak.

I'm really only campaigning for the devs to actually put risk in the game for people wanting to be bandits. As it stands, there is little risk to smart snipers. Any idiot can get a kill form that hilltop north of Elektro with little to no risk to themselves unless they stay there for too long. With the new patch, zombies being a lot more aggressive than they were, being in any city is more dangerous. When the SA hits, and they can now run inside buildings as well, you have the two largest loot zones pointless for players to ever go into. IF you want to be a bandit, I think you should be facing the same types of risks as everyone else. Now maybe if there were zombies roaming those woods and respawning as well, I might not have a problem with it. As it stands now, they've just made it too easy to put all of the risk on people trying to loot and none on people lucky enough to pick up that as50. Players don't go to either of the bigger cities in the south unless they are new and don't know or just stupid. Again, that makes the existence of those cities pointless compared to the risk.

I found a Czech chest pack and it had 16 and the coyote still has 24, not sure of others though.

Have you ever had a good play?

Fraggle has it absolutely right. This mod is a zombie infested choose your own adventure. Just because the choices YOU make return you through the same few pages, doesn't mean there aren't a ton of things you could be doing. I always laugh when I talk about wishing they would remove snipers and someone says, 'stop running through fields!'. I do run through fields like a noob, but its because I don't care at all about my gear. I have only been playing a month or so and know where to go, how to find the best gear I want and how to avoid any and all trouble if I wanted to. I purposefully do not do these things once geared because I actually enjoying hunting down loot and look forward to the adrenalin rush of each and every fight in between. I hunt gear, not because of what I can do with it, but for the same reasons people play scratch off lottery tickets, (which I don't). I am also always ready to come to the aid of someone else. Don't care if its a bandit or a hero or a guy with a hatchet wanting a ride to NWAF even though I know he will be dead in minutes. The risks and rewards are mine to make as I see fit. -
You mean as opposed to being able to even start a huey much less fly it, shoot a sniper rifle like an expert, open tin cans with your teeth and run infinitely long distances? Personally I wish they would just allow vault while running as I just don't like the animation of the roll.

I never said bandits are psychotic. I said people that decide to snipe fresh spawns are sociopathic people. Some in this very forum have come out and said they only do it because they know it pisses people off. I also said what you choose to do in a video game definitely reflects who you are in real life if you were given the choice to do not do that thing. Playing a game with guns is all about killing something and it doesn't make you psychotic or anything else if you use them, you're playing the game as intended. I have shot plenty of other players. I do it rather than die. Choosing to harass someone that just spawned, from a full km out because you can is pointless in game other than letting that part of you that real cops with real guns keeps you from expressing in real life.

mine is always light pink or flashing light pink or maybe flashing white when I ride in a boat or am out in the rain at night for too long.

Alright can anyone explain this?

From what I've seen, zombies don't run over ground that is also over water. -
The way you play a game given nearly uncountable options says everything about you. I know a few people with a morbid fascination with seeing just how far a game will let them go in doing messed up stuff. The first time you delete all the exits in a Sim's house to see what will happen might just be curiosity. Every time after that and you're just exposing sociopathic tendencies you just don't want to admit to. You have been given the choice to snipe a guy who just spawned with nothing more than a hatchet or head north and find harder to kill targets that might offer an upgrade to your gear. When you choose the easy and pointless route because you can, that realizes no end but satisfaction in hurting other people, you can't say that implies nothing about you as a person. Even if you say, 'I'm just playing a certain character in way I think he would act', you still made the choice of what character to play. I never came on here to argue that you shouldn't be allowed to kill other people, but rather to campaign for the makers of this game to at least limit the ability of people to completely ruin the game for people just starting out or at least have consequences beyond a skin that can be covered up with a ghillie suit.

That video was both amazing and hilarious at thinking how many people would just give up or crash after five minutes of flipping switches. Like trying to teach a monkey to play a concerto by just handing them a violin. I wish most things in this game took a lot more thinking and skill than just point and click. Almost like an adventure game where exploring an object or technique would yield far better results than just trying the default thing and moving on.

They're only unreliable if you completely lack the ability to think for yourself. I am somehow at a loss as to how you think someone who feels strongly about something is incapable of seeing motivations or reasons why someone would take an opposing opinion. I could be motivated to lie or misconstrue evidence or things I see but so can someone who has nothing to gain and is completely neutral. Being a liar is a trait that happens to both people with opinions and those without an opinion on a particular subject. But that's where a rational human being has to at least be smart enough to take things in and make their own opinion.

I am absolutely biased and make no claims to the contrary. Not against bandits being bandits, though, but against people being able to use the cheapest methods possible to grief other players. I even said "The game absolutely needs bandits". I love PVP and do not play any multiplayer games that lack some form of PVP. I have killed people before but I refuse to pick up a sniper rifle other than to take them to the nearest bush and throw them on the ground. Giving the worst type of trolls the ability to kill without consequence or risk just drives most people away. As to the comment 'bandits are at greater risk' I call bull. I know the names of most of the bandits on the servers I play on and its definitely NOT their names taking up the majority of those scrolling up the side of the screen in death chat. I don't mind people making it their sole purpose in the game to kill as many people as possible. I like facing that kind of threat. Not being able to see, hear or even know that a threat is there makes it pointless to play this game as a social game and the numbers I posted last night back that up. Oh, and a couple definitions of what I think this word means in this context. Asshole: Someone driving a vehicle up and down the coast with the sole intent and purpose of running down people who have just spawned and doing so for no other reason than the negative emotions it inflicts on the victim. Asshole: Someone hiding along the ridges north of the beach knowing for a fact that the vast majority of the people they are about to kill have no weapons, no gear and no way to fight back and doing so for no other reason than they feel good about causing duress in their fellow players. Those things drive away noobs and the money they have to spend on SA. Look at how many people complained and then asked for their money back in Warz after trying to spawn into the game a couple times. There are a lot of other reasons why Warz is shit, but doesn't this sound familiar? Player spawns with little to no gear in a small area. Just outside that area are people with high powered weapons who spend all day killing people with little risk to themselves and for no other reasons than they can and they like pissing people off by being a troll. They've talked about making changes to SA to limit these things somewhat, but every game that allows it in the slightest sees more and more people utilizing them until most people just leave and the trolls are the only ones left when the last server shuts down.

Hacker Prevention - A Rather Simple Solution
hogscraper replied to person915's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
BE is third party and can be used in any game that the devs want to license for. Also, go into direct chat, #beclient players that shows everyone's guid that is currently playing on a server. Its also not a security risk as your guid cannot be reverse hacked to find your cd key unless they also have the hash originally used to derive it. -
I think most people question the killing because too many people never see the person that killed them and have no way to retaliate. They've lived most of their gaming lives having a chance to at least defend themselves in games where death from another player is possible. Think of every game you've ever played. What would be the point of continuing play if randomly, without warning, without any way to avoid it, you simply die. You start over from scratch and at some point later, you randomly die again. No warning, no visual cues, no auditory cues, no way to avoid a repeat of that situation other than to avoid that area all together. You can't just respawn and come back as you are even less able to defend yourself at that point than you were when you died. Eventually you would no longer be playing the game the way it was intended. You would be hiding as far from everything else that makes the game fun. Look at the server browser and try to tell me this hasn't already happened in Dayz. Check out how many people are playing the game on a server by themselves or with a minimum of other players. There are around 1200 people playing on servers with 50-45 other people, 3000 people on servers with 45-20 players, 3000 people on servers with 10-20 players, 4800 people on servers with 3-10 people and around 1600 playing on a server with 1-2 players. I haven't really ever played a game that I can remember that made it so lopsided in favor of people wanting to be asshats. I get that its a different kind of game, but when you purposefully design your game to make it so that any loser can be a troll, you pretty much guarantee a very large percentage of people, that would otherwise play your game, won't. The people making this game have to understand that the way it stands, the assholes are winning as its just too easy to asshole it up in Dayz. The numbers don't lie. Losers looking to be a bully because its the easiest path do. The game absolutely needs bandits. Without them there is no reason to play this game after you get geared. What most people who complain about bandits get mad about is how easy it is to die to one and how little there is you can do to counter a sniper on a hill 1,000 meters away who can kill you with one bullet. When you have more players in a multiplayer game choosing to go it alone or with one other person than you do choosing to play on a nearly full server the game is broken.
