  1. Your analogy is mistaken on several fronts. People cannot play this mod for free. It is free to download, but someone learning of this mod still has to pay 20-30 dollars in order to play it. I've never heard of a free community center where everything inside was free, but where you had to pay a fee in order to enter the building. It doesn't matter where the fee comes from, if you have to pay in order to play, its a cost related to the game. If there were a gate around every library in the world, with a turnstile that you had to pay ten dollars, to a third party, to get through, would any one agree that going to the library was still free? Even if every person in the library screamed, 'but we aren't the ones charging admission, that's someone else!' Their words are technically true, but the vast majority of players didn't own Arma2 before they decided they wanted to play Dayz and they definitely look at how they are treated here with how they will be treated by the people running SA. Might not be true, but customer's perceptions are 100% true in their minds and wallets. The second part of your analogy that makes no sense is how you ignore the fact that when a game has an online component, people expect the servers labeled "OFFICIAL" to be run, or at least watched over by "OFFICIAL" channels. That's generally what that word means;representative of and controlled or endorsed by. I completely understand that some things are outside of the devs' control, but its the perception here that matters. Public hives are supposed to be the ones with strict controls to make sure there's a level playing field across all of them. That's the draw of being able to move your character across them. Even if Arma2 were free, would your community center happily invite people inside only to direct them straight to their dirty bathrooms with no signs or indications that clean rooms and fun could be had on another floor? People at your community center aren't free to use any services but the dirty bathrooms because there aren't any signs directing them anywhere but the dirty bathrooms. If the patron had to return to the help desk, complain that the only room in the building was filthy and then be told about some hidden rooms upstairs, it doesn't help as the patron is already 90% of the way to the door at that point. It doesn't matter the intent, its what every other game that exists does to control the quality of the brand and its what people will remember when BIS asks them for money for the SA. I see the above posters' points about people doing right on some public servers, but two dozen or so I tried last winter when I started playing were horrible examples. I came to this forum pissed off because I was lead to believe that they were legit servers. Ones set up to be representative of what the makers of this mod wanted me to experience. I came to what I thought was the official forums of the game I downloaded and mods basically said, 'see ya'. I was level headed enough to stick around and listen to a few people's advice so I learned to stay away from public servers. I don't know if there is a fix here, but every time I see a new forum posters crying about leaving the game because of their experiences on a public hive it bums me to know that's one fewer player I will find playing the SA. I see those posts all the time and it seems like the response is always the same. Why does this matter to me? Why would something so simple bother me? Because Dayz is a brand I want to see succeed and the evidence is ample enough to an outsider looking in, that the people that should want this even more than me don't actually care to deal with the situation. People can claim that there's a difference between this free run mod and SA, but considering its the same name, how can you expect people not deeply involved in the forums to ever know the difference?
  2. When you hit a speed around 60 coming down a mountain side, you realize what fun travelling can be. Plus, outrunning a guy in a car offroad while you're pedaling like a madman is just too funny.

    Suggestion for killing on sight

    I generally don't kos unless a person runs into me around a blind corner or is pointing their gun in my direction. As far as sound goes, I like the idea of zombies hearing gun fire from realistic distances away then moving towards it at a pace proportionate to how far away they are. It would add a lot more tension to just about everything you do in the game.
  4. I've even had full packs empty themselves just from logging out before a restart. Had the same thing happen putting them into a vehicle.

    Balance between PVP and PVE

    I was in awe thinking about the amount of bricks that would be shat if the zombies acted like those in the latest World War Z trailer. Even a dozen or two, piling into doors, through windows would be epic to have to deal with. Also, having them drop something more than an empty tin can would be nice if I had to work harder to kill them.
  6. Where in this do you say, in any way shape or form that this will increase difficulty? If you're going to refute what someone says, try not to make shit up after the fact to make your original post sound like something that it was not. You didn't bother to add in facts, thoughts or anything else that would lead someone to believe you were anything but a cry baby, (self described noob as a matter of fact), and have not given a single reason other than trying to lessen the difficulty in why you want slower zombies. And single player? The hallmark of a player that has missed the point of this mod entirely. You could easily create a local server, run the mod, give yourself god mode and whatever weapons you want if that's the environment you want. Besides being bad at the game, why else would you want a single player? What could possibly be your intent in wanting to play this mod by yourself other than wanting an easier experience? Yet another contradiction you make with your claim that you feel the game is too easy. You came here and made a post. A fairly simple post that would lead anyone literate in the English language that you were intending to make the game easier by making the zombies easier to avoid. Then you follow it up by saying: Dean needs to make the game easier for "noobs" like you. You've been playing since the mod came out. The game as it is isn't hard at all. How can I not come to the inevitable conclusion that you either can't figure out how to survive in Dayz or you're drunk and just responding with whatever gotchya response you can make up to refute any criticism of your post? Either way we come back to the simple premise that you suck. So what, get over it. You want to play Care Bears with zombies. At least be a man about it and stop making stuff up to try and come across as something you are not.

    New to DayZ, needs so help on starting?

    I always tell new players the same thing: Spend a week just sprinting around like an idiot. Zombies after you? Run. Died? Spawn and run again. After you spawn, try everything in your power to get as close to death as possible then figure a way out of it. Run through Cherno, try to attract every zombie in town then try to get out alive. Spend that time paying attention, though. Learn to recognize what buildings have two entrances and be on the look out for them at all times. Same thing goes for large pine trees and clumps of bushes. This gives you an out if zombies get on your tail. Learn the map. Do you die every single time you enter a certain city? Try coming in from a different side. Learn where the players are who keep killing you. If you can learn HOW you died, figure out the similarities or what lead to that death and it becomes easier to avoid similar deaths. That being said, you will die a lot. I spend my time hunting bandits. I consider myself a shark that hunts other sharks, and sometimes a guppy gets the jump on me and gets my gear. It happens to everyone and not getting attached to your gear is step one in figuring it all out.
  8. Sorry but you are the douche. People play this game because its hard. The game is about you being smarter, not the zombies. Why are they chasing you to begin with? Why weren't you keeping track of your easy outs, hiding spots or buildings with two entrances? I've run from Berezino to Novi Sobor with more than a dozen zombies behind me. They were no more a threat than the random goat I passed in a field. When I got close to my destination I lost them in a few seconds by sprinting through a barn. The fact is, when you have to spend even one bullet on a zombie, its because the game was already smarter than you. Maybe you want to not have to pay attention at all times. Maybe you just suck. I mean you did say you have been playing since the mod came out and still haven't figured out that zombies are a joke. For a brief time they were hard, and the flocks of cry babies convinced the mods to dumb it back down. It was a sad day and I haven't felt challenged since the last day that patch was live. It amazes me how many people come to these forums to cry about 'how dumb' the game is by describing situations wherein they displayed zero game smarts or the appearance of that lacking because they expect the game to conform to the way they want to play instead of adapting to simple situations.
  9. Treat them like everyone else. It made me ROFL hard the first time I heard some noob screaming over side chat that he was shot and had a hero skin. His attitude was that it was like some magic shield that should protect him. Who's to say he wasn't just a team medic for a bandit group that sucked in combat? My bullets couldn't tell the difference.

    Should loot "grow"?

    I see where you wanted to go with this, but it wouldn't work on many levels. High grade loot is meant to spawn in a few locations making it more dangerous to try and obtain. Having the ability to find a DMR or better anywhere but a few locations would break the game pretty quick. Now loot piles that have 4-5 spawn points starting off with one piece of loot with the others spawning in over time would be a great way to add to the scarcity of loot. But loot doesn't instantly spawn everywhere on server restart and you are suggesting making it so that there is an a lot more load on the server for a very small payoff.
  11. I love this game for the same reason I love the Dawn of the Dead remake. Slow zombies/infected are for old and feeble people to be afraid of. If the virus slowed the decay process they would be able to move as fast as any human for quite a long while. A breif period of rigor mortis might slow them down for a few hours but after that, why wouldn't they be able to run?

    Good read. Been there before. Sometimes I just hide my gear in a tent and try it again with nothing just to have those types of experiences again.
  14. Can't you just remove the definition from the vehicles list? You would want to delete the instances first so it doesn't throw an error but it should keep any non hacker related thing from spawning them. Might narrow it down a bit.

    If you mean to play on, just use Dayz Commander and sort by ping. Easiest way to find a close one.

    Should i keep my private hive server up?

    That's the Dayz way. You start a fun server and a few people decide to start their own. Then other's start their own and everyone gets to have fun playing with just a few people at a time. I've watched it happen to half a dozen servers in the last two months. Best case scenario is just that people have had real life come at them and they will be back. Have you made a website for people who played there to post on? Its the best way to find out what people are up to. Worst case scenario they have moved on permanently. I would try to find another server with a low population and try to team up with their admins to pool your resources, players etc.

    The switch from console to PC

    First and foremost, prepare to get your ass handed to you, a lot. If you want to be competitive, do yourself a favor and never use a controller for shooting. If you haven't spent time allowing your muscle memory to learn where the cross hair goes based on your mouse, I would seriously recommend a game like Counter Strike Source or Black Ops 2. Fast respawns and you don't lose your beans when you die. Games like this will allow you to learn your mouse and help you out tremendously. Dayz usually starts you out without a gun. By the time you get one, you will not want to lose it during your first encounter so I would seriously recommend getting another twitch shooter, (maybe even a free one), just to get comfortable with the mouse and keyboard set up. If you game a lot, don't buy wireless. Its higher latency might get you killed and even the best gear costs more and comes with the hassle of changing out batteries. And finally from me, get Dayz Commander. It simplifies installing Dayz and all the other maps and people I know that have used it seem to have a hell of a lot less issues than the few I know that run Dayz from Steam.

    Are there still camps?

    The amount of people using ESP hacks makes it pointless to make camps on too many servers. I have a few high pop server I play on that I have never had a camp that was well placed get raided. All others, including some low population servers have had tents get raided that you couldn't see from 2m away in any direction including up. The old camps remain until found but I don't bother making new ones any more. If I can't log out with it I don't bother picking it up. If its a .50 I will take it to the nearest bush and dump it though. Same goes for vehicles.

    Inventory Issues

    Its a known issue. Mouse wheel to GEAR then when the window opens drag the one weapon to your weapon slot. This will drop your old weapon on the ground. You can also click on your backpack, then open bag and drag the new weapon into the backpack if you have ten free slots.

    If you come in from the top north west corner you can usually get the jump on a lot of snipers who hang out up there. Or move in on a low populated server then try other servers from a good vantage point.
  21. I would like to invite everyone to play on Hogscraper's Super Server! 7,000 vehicles, 200 heli's and planes including Apaches and F35s! Custom starting loadout! Coyote Backpack, M4A1 CCO SD, M9SD, AS50, NVG, GPS, Rangefinder, Nades and more! 150+ custom scripts including dogs, towing, teleport anywhere on map, invisibility and more! Zombies have had their aggro range reduced to two meters and their movement reduced to 150m/hour! I got tired of playing on full servers and thought 'I could do this!' so off I went. My problem at this point, after putting in more than 750 hours in fine tuning everything is no one ever wants to play here. This is the best server ever so what's you people's problem? Get in here and have fun. I do have a life so I won't be bothered with being their to watch over things so if you're going to use hacks, please don't do anything too crazy guys! IP is 174.3.1 PW:Hogsisthebest Rcon pw is the same as the server password so if you guys want to change things up, please do! Just ask my permission first. Thanks! ------------------------------ Sorry for wasting your time but this is just my way of saying, friends don't let friends start their own Dayz servers. Some of you guys have what it takes and with some hard work, you might just get a healthy, full server. To those very few of you who do, congratulations. To the other 99.99%, please stop wasting others' time by further dividing the playerbase with yet another server that probably will never pass five concurrent players. Why do I even care about all this? Because its getting old seeing servers I enjoy playing on slowly turn to garbage as half the players break off into small groups to start their own server. Stop the madness people!

The one thing I found on my Dayz.st server is that there wasn't any basic guides on advanced vehicle or cache spawns so it took a while to figure out that ZERO cache's I placed came filled with guns. I ended up having to learn how inventory is organized in the database and do them manually. A lot of people don't know the exact mechanics and think if its full in the editor it will be full in the live server.It may work for others just fine, but I have run into a few people on here that have issues with no guns showing up. [[["M1014","Binocular","Makarov","ItemKnife"],[1,1,1,1]],[["8Rnd_B_Beneli_74Slug","8Rnd_9x18_Makarov","ItemWaterbottle","FoodRabbitCooked"],[2,2,2,4]],[["CZ_VestPouch_EP1"],[1]]] Notice you have to put in weapons and items then the amount of each. Then ammo and consumables then the amount of each. Finally do packs and the amount of each. If you are doing this exactly the same and still having issues you may want to back up your server and reinstall or put in a ticket as I have never seen this mechanic fail on a Dayz.st server. Also, I've never had an issue with custom player loadouts. Since these inventories work the same I would expect that its an issue with how you are formatting the inventory.

    More dumb questions

    One way to find your exact location if you have a map and compass. If you are on a server that doesn't show your location on the map and you don't have a gps do this: open your map and place a waypoint, (shift-left click), close to where you think you are exit map and look around until you see the green waypoint use your compass to see what direction the waypoint is and how far away you are. open your map and place another waypoint in the opposite direction of what your compass said, so if the first way point was 500m to your west, place another where you think 500m to the east would be. Repeat this process until you get the numbers you need. Once you learn the map it should only take two or three times to get within 100m Hope that helps!
