Its a pretty well known theory that people who are generally happy in life celebrate another person's success or happiness instead of hating on them. I have never heard of your pretty well known theory but have to question how a normal thinking person would make the jump in logic you are claiming as obvious. People have different levels of interest in things and people with the most interest in a thing are the people that will want to get as far as possible in it. Are you saying that only people who feel let down in their lives have high interest in video games? I've read that Robin Williams is hard core into WoW. You seem to be implying that 'life' somehow exists completely separate from gaming when I'm 100% certain that someone who considers themselves a gamer would disagree. A guy I work with has spent thousands of hours and tens of thousands of dollars working on a 40'x40' model train and city. I doubt anyone would think he is disappointed with his life just because he has spent a tremendous amount of time on a hobby he enjoys. I only tried out WoW for a short time and can say that there are assholes in that game that look down on people who aren't as good as them, but there are also people like that at the gun range I go to. There are people like that pretty much everywhere. You really just come across as a hater lumping them all together under a heading that doesn't even make sense.

That would be the greatest and funniest troll move ever. Dayz with three guns and tons of melee weapons. Dean always talks about ways to reduce pvp and increase survival. That move would definitely accomplish his goal.

Will dayz ever be a survival game?
hogscraper replied to nathanator2's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How is that not survival? Don't get me wrong, bandits who kill fresh spawns are the worst kinds of losers but its still survival. Unless you mean peaceful survival which will never happen because we live in a world where its me first. All you need in any game is for the ability to exist for a person to be a selfish asshole and most people will flock to that ability. You can find some cool people but don't ever expect a game where anyone can act like they want to be filled with nice people. -
While it wouldn't bother me in the least to have zombie kids in the game I don't really care that they are not there. Its also fucked up that anyone would actually fight for this as their cause. Arguing for it to remain after the fact is one thing, arguing for its creation and inclusion is another. As for realism, I just figured most kids are pretty stupid and wouldn't survive the first few days of any zombie apocalypse. They would likely be the first to die. Think about it. Zombies are like regular people on bath salts. They are mindless face eating machines. What child could fight an adult hell bent of eating them, especially if it was their parents in their own home? Also, a zombie eats on an adult and leaves enough behind that the corpse has enough muscle to get up and move around. Zombies are dead human leftovers. A kid would be like a poptart. There aren't usually leftovers when a full grown adult gets done eating a poptart. Just saying.

D-90 until DayZ will be history for me
hogscraper replied to mark3236 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sorry but in war, a kid with a gun is still an enemy combatant and will gladly kill you for the Glorious Leader. And black humor is funny sometimes. Except for Chris Tucker, that guy sucks. Good luck over there Mark! -
Game Server Hosting by SurvivalServers.com *** INSTANT SETUP | CUSTOM CP | FTP | CUSTOM MODS | ANTI-HACK **
hogscraper replied to SurvivalServers (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Are they selling the mods or only charging to install them? Only asking because I'm not sure if you have a copyright claim or would be able to do anything about them breaking your TOS if they are simply installing the script for someone else. Although its sounds like a pretty shitty company, you might be hard pressed to convince a judge or jury that you have the right to tell someone they cannot be compensated for helping someone else if you yourself, (or your company or team), are not providing the service yourself. You can only generally sue someone with the hope of two outcomes: To regain lost or owed monies or to get them to comply with something in a contract but only if a judge thinks that part of the contract is legally binding. At best you might get a judge to issue a cease and desist order but their lawyers will argue they are simply trying to help their customers out due to a lack of help on your part. And while it would be ludicrous to expect a mod maker to offer installations of their mods to everyone who downloaded it I would bet their lawyers would go there first. I would if I was representing them. This would at least keep you from recouping any money they have made from your work. I would, however, find out from a lawyer in the state where you live what it would cost to help you out. They might get a response simply by sending a cease and desist request on their law firm's letter head. A lot of shady businesses know they are shady and hope they never have to explain themselves. The prospect of having to travel across the country to defend themselves and the cost of hiring a lawyer might be prohibitive enough that they stop offering your mods. On a personal note, if you hope to get people behind you in your cause, its not generally a good idea to state that you back people who are just as shady as the people you are up against yourself. Ignoring what I think about Origins to begin with as a mod, they DDOS'd a legal business. You might be doing more harm than good even mentioning that in your posts. -
learn lesson from counter strike mistake
hogscraper replied to wild_man's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why couldn't they make an in game spray editor that was very basic? Limited colors and maybe one or two brushes. You make a small tag and it could only be on one thing at a time. They could have a reporting function for perma-banning someone's spray if it was outside of whatever guidelines they make at the beginning. The tradeoff would be being able to add a dimension of player interaction. Spray a building in the middle of nowhere to let people know about a meeting or dropoff nearby. Mark a location to let people know they will be fighting for their lives if they trespass there. All kinds of cool things you do to add your personal mark on the world. -
What do you call such an admin?
hogscraper replied to HumanBeing25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you really like the server and think the admin was hacked, find out if they have a website, go there and ask. Otherwise move on. On second thought, move on anyways. If the server admin isn't able to keep the server from getting jacked up you will probably continue to have issues like this in the future. -
Different spawns and spawning as different sized people
hogscraper replied to karatekids300's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I watched some fat guy with three friends be the only one not going to the hospital after getting shot by several people with small caliber pistols. The bullets literally bounced off his khakis but went through his friends'. It might help during famine as well. As for OP, you can edit spawns in the mod fairly easily but without some sort of script that keeps people from respawning more than once or twice a half hour you would have everyone killing themselves to get to the good spawns. I've been guilty myself of jumping off the lighthouse. -
DayZ Standalone No UI Blood Level
hogscraper replied to Soul Wreaver's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I just lol'd for real thinking about some player in a store in Cherno checking his blood pressure on one of those machines and dying like an idiot like the biker in Dawn of the Dead. Someone needs to make this a mod. I'll even volunteer to test it out. -
Lol. Always have skype or another way to contact the real admins of the servers you play on. The funnest is when some idiot pretends to be an admin, you agree to comply then go and shoot them in the face. THEN they get banned themselves. I always shoot someone claiming to be an admin anyway. If I stumble into a server that has a douchbag as an admin it will be worth killing them for the ban as I wouldn't intend on staying any way.

I would like to see a combination of this idea and what is already happening. How cool would it be that when the server spawns zeds it does so normally but also spawns gigantic hordes along the coast? I don't know how bad FPS would drop in SA since everything but graphics would be server side, but how crazy and fun would it be if you were gathering loot in Berezino, you're not watching the horizon, and a few minutes later a huge horde of zombies comes shambling into town? Maybe even have one giant horde that roams around looking for people to eat. You think you're being slick by running from bush to bush from Cherno to Stary and run over a hill into a couple hundred undead? That would definitely increase the tension around the map!

What if Dayz was free to play?
hogscraper replied to Shadow Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Some F2P games get it right but most are nasty money sinks so most people with jobs tend to stay away from them. Hearthstone is F2P and is manageable without spending any money but its slow. Path of Exile gives nothing but cosmetic items to players for cash. Creating a F2P game that becomes unplayable without paying would break the spirit of F2P. The point of those games is that the smaller % of people paying support the daily costs of running the servers for everyone else. In that setup everyone would have to pay. I completely agree with what you were trying to do with your suggestion, though. There needs to be something harsh that would keep people from being relaxed, but not so harsh that it ruins the game. I wish they would have moved all of the cities much further inland and increased the zombie spawns around the coast. It would make it harder to escape by a new person, but not impossible, and having zombies spawn near players who are within 1k of the coast would keep most veteran players out of the area. Make it a death zone where the only point is to survive back to the rest of the island where actual play takes place. -
Having been on Steam since 2004 I can say that VAC stops a lot of people. I used to hear that same sentiment from a lot of people while gaming but then I started paying attention to how many people were showing bans on record. You can see it at the top of someone's account. It also tells you how many bans on record they have and what engine the ban occurred in. When someone is VAC banned, they are banned from every game that uses that same engine. Get caught hacking in Counter-Strike Source and you can't play Team Fortress 2. Today, a lot of people think that VAC doesn't work because of the built in delay. This allows them to ban people for offenses while adding the possibility that the cheater won't know what exactly they were doing wrong so they it will be harder to adapt their cheats. The problem there is that while the delay is going on there's a ton of actual cheating that can go on. There are also things that cannot be fixed. Anything that hijacks incoming data to create an overlay or provide other usable information is extremely hard to stamp out. Other games that allow a client to tell the server what is happening is also easily hacked. Its funny watching videos on YouTube of someone claiming to have gotten around VAC who then has a ban on record a few weeks later.

Definitely loving that new picture. Cool stuff when you consider how much harder ESP hacks will be with this setup. Whatever it takes! I have a feeling it will release after I've just spent what free money I have.

Hello everyone, I have a few questions.
hogscraper replied to xoiio's topic in New Player Discussion
When you die, you respawn at a pre-determined spot but there are tons of them so its kind of random. You can actually go into the database and edit the spawns so you could choose to spawn anywhere you want when you die. I set up some mini games on a server I used to have where depending on where you spawned there would be different situations for you to deal with. To be honest, though, you should tinker with the loot on your server as little as possible. The very first time you give in and give your guy something its all down hill from there. The pursuit of loot and survival are the only things that make this game fun when no one else is around. If you really wanted to mess with loot but keep it fun, you could delete all of the spawn points, then give yourself spawns right on the coast near Cherno or Elektro. Put what items you would like around the city but keep them spread out and keep them simple and bare necessities. Then you would be forcing yourself to do a loot run through the city every time you respawn and you would know the rewards and be aware of the risk in getting your free starter gear. That way you could give yourself a low level gun, some food and ammo and other basic supplies, but you would be making yourself work for them every time. If you plan on building a base and defending it you will really want to make it near one of the bigger cities anyway. Not right inside, but at least close. If you fortified a barn there wouldn't be too many zombie spawn points in the middle of nowhere so you might not have many to kill. Some of the most fun I've had in Dayz was setting up some situation that had a high chance of death and going for it. If you have the ability to set up your own server, I would just password it and keep in mind that there are others who like a laid back approach who you could survive with. If nothing else, watch the forums, set up your server, learn to write missions and see if you can't find a couple people to have fun with. If you plan on doing this long term, learn to love http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/addAction You can add any item you want to the server and pretty much make them do anything you want. Its a long road to walk, but it will increase your fun exponentially learning how to make custom things happen on your server. -
Shooting open doors in SA..
hogscraper replied to NagsterTheGangster's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Even an unlocked door could be blown off for effect. I would really like to see this. Also, why couldn't they treat it as a shield with X damage mitigation that also moves like a door? I know in Arma you can test to see if a door was damaged but I think it was still part of the house model so I don't think they were ever able to separate the two. If they could, when the guy outside shoots the game could easily tell if the guy in the house was in the line of fire, then just subtract X from the damage done and turn the entity's exist state to 0 and add some particle effects. They would probably have to add a hitpoint value to the house's model.cfg just for the door, though. Strange that they coded doors to detect damage but that they can take as much damage as the house itself so technically they are both destroyed at the same time. -
Technically anyone can change the name of their app while in development to whatever they want. Halo, 2 and 3 have shown up in that database with Microsoft saying never going to happen and we don't know what that's about. So who knows. Would be an epic troll or an epic win for a Halloween Alpha release. Either way, good times are ahead! IRT I would wait either way. At this point, even if it doesn't come out in the next couple weeks, you really should find something else to get into and just wait it out. I am on a two month hiatus and only really play here and there when a friend needs some help with something. I really want a clean palate when I jump into SA for the first time. If the above turns out to be a rumor and it ends up looking like a release after Christmas I would spend the cash and jump in. Otherwise you're dropping twenty or thirty dollars for something you may only be playing for a very short time. Contrary to what some people say, Arma2 is garbage unless you really, really like military sims with dated graphics. It was great a while back, but if you buy it for Dayz, don't expect to get much play value out of it at this point in its life.

Does knowing how to read a topographic map help you?
hogscraper replied to rooniedoo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It helps when you first get started. It might help you later on if you find yourself in a part of the map you don't usually go to. When you first start playing you have to learn the cities and where they are in relation to each other. After a little while later you will start to know the land for the most part. I remember being a noob then one day realizing I knew exactly where I was and how to get where I needed to go. Maybe it could help you with distances if you were sniping. -
Why hasn't KOS chimed in? He's going to be pissed someone wants to play without him. Really cool guy... Why would you hate on him like this?

Will hackers really be subdued in SA? Not likely.
hogscraper replied to Ozelot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Things that made me leave public servers and only play on a couple well policed private servers: Item dupping. Should be a thing of the past due to the way they are implementing item creation and database storage. If the server creates the item database it would be easy to check if a player has gear that was actually created by the server and if not, just delete it as a mistake. If everything is loaded and saved only to the server, and item quantities are checked against what has spawned it should be pretty easy to ban people for that type of hacking. ESP hacks. Given that each player will only exist inside a small bubble of what they can see, it should drastically limit the extent of what another player can do in that regard. If they can see you, what would be the point of using a hack to see you? If they can't see you then the server should not be making that info available to use. Auto-Aim - Not sure if there is much that can be done about this. They can limit it some, but people have been pretty crafty at writing programs that not only get your cursor exactly where it needs to fire, but can add in misses or sway or anything else to fool a third party looking in. Other than mining data and seeing if the exact same things or speeds occur there isn't much they can do about it. God mode - teleportation - affecting another player in any way - all should be impossible due to the way they will be monitoring players' positions, gear, life, bullets etc. All in all I'm stoked at how much better it should be in the SA. -
People just dont do role playing anymore
hogscraper replied to meat pie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Haha Gews! I play hero on servers where I frequent but occasionally I get pissed at dying and want some action. Easiest way I've found is to claim ownership of anything in Elektro. Based on the action I always get I figured most people already know 'I own the church' was universal language for 'come at me bro' to the whole server. To OP:Maybe they were devoutly religious and you just did something very sacrilegious to them? Either way I'm sure that even in RL, if an armed man shouted out from a local church that he now owned the place, the end result would likely be the same. Roleplaying and realism in one. -
I don't think you can print that from map out from Chrome. I tried last winter and all it gave me was a blank background and some labels. I ended up getting a free app for android called Dayz Central. Has the same map and weapon info.

yet another story of how you can trust no one.
hogscraper replied to thecoolestloseryouknow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So Dean could have very easily deleted AS50s, M107s, DMRs, belt fed machine guns, grenade launchers, satchel charges etc from the weapons database and specifically CHOSE NOT TO and that has somehow lead to me not understanding something? Or do you think he left them in the game naively thinking people would only use those weapons against zombies? Even in the SA there will be military grade weapons that will nearly be exclusively used to kill other players. He has said the SA will make ammo very, very rare but he is still leaving some very powerful, player killing weapons in the full release. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm playing the game incorrectly because I don't head into Elektro with a granade launcher with the intent of using it just to kill a few zombies before aggroing the entire city to my location. -
yet another story of how you can trust no one.
hogscraper replied to thecoolestloseryouknow's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Stopped reading at 'cod kiddies'. Idiots and butthurt losers love that overused term. You're playing a mod that is based on top of a game designed around finding weapons and vehicles and using them to kill people. Bummer that people are actually using those items for their intended purpose...
