Make Death a Loss, Re: Tents, Inventory
Alopex replied to catface.jpg's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The theory is sound, though in practice this would be -very- difficult to implement, as it would require that every item across every server is uniquely identified and cross-checked with the hive whenever a player attempts to interact with them. This would make it impracticable as a solution. Also, I think that locking a player out of a server for a few days isn't necessarily a good solution either. This is because player death should be punishing within the boundaries of the game world, as it currently is (though obviously not without fault) through the loss of items. Locking a player out of a server for x amount of time following their death would be detrimental to the experience of the game and in addition, frustrating to players. While I agree that the OPs idea isn't without it's flaws (friend assistance, hive & server resources), It would certainly be beneficial to the game in it's present state, if it could be implemented efficiently. -
Vilayer is now bad... as the official HIVE.
Alopex replied to WalkerDown (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
That's a negative. My private server has an independent hive database, as do many others, I presume. ..Mind you, the server is also closed off to the public altogether. -
That's an entry-level laptop Quadro business graphics card comparable to the GeForce 310M. Unfortunately, that card is going to struggle with DayZ, even with most of the graphics options disabled/low. For more details: http://www.notebookc...0M.24738.0.html Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

At present, it is clear that the sheer quantity of malicious script kiddies running amok on our servers is beyond ridiculous. With the means to purge every player on any given server at the push of a button, what options do we actually have for maintaining and looking after the community so that the game can actually be played? Right now, not all that much.. As a result of this, genuine players of the mod such as you and I are unable to have a positive playing experience with DayZ, as a server administrator, I've seen it happen frequently, and the problem is escalating daily. BattlEye simply isn't enough to combat these miscreants. We all know that the engine is very easily exploited, and that the unsporting individuals that are abusing this fact generally don't need to be capable hackers. The community desperately needs a potent solution to this currently overbearing problem, as existing measures are clearly insufficient. I believe that the best way to combat this problem is to give the power back to the server administrators. In the short term, I would personally like to see the developers ease up on the use of server passwords, as this would allow server administrators to limit their player base to trusted individuals. In theory, server staff could set up a server access request thread here on the forums. Players wishing to play on the given server could request the password (updated weekly or as required), and the server staff then email these 'whitelisted' players the password. If a whitelisted player is caught cheating on the server, the updated passwords are no longer sent to them and they are, for all intents and purposes, blacklisted. I wouldn't have any problem naming and shaming any offenders also in a similar thread. I realize that this approach may raise other issues, such as loot farming and the potential for an unfair playing advantage to whitelisted players, but I believe that a well moderated server with a significant number of players would greatly benefit from such a system, and widespread adoption of such a method would certainly take the edge off server hacking and re-establish the integrity of DayZ and it's community, at least until a better solution can be instated. Be sure to share your thoughts and opinions. If something like this is going to work, it will require numbers and additional input, no doubt.

As I've stated, I understand this to be the case also, hence I am suggesting a community sourced solution.

What music do you listen to while playing DayZ, if at all?
Alopex replied to capefear56's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Along with the rest of the album. -
No. ArmA 2 (and consequently, DayZ) is currently PC exclusive, and will remain that way. ..Perhaps that is a question worth asking the devs regarding the stand alone version of DayZ now under development though.

My main gripe with the removal of ammo refill
Alopex replied to Hawk24's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alternatively, you can always move your full mags into your backpack while using the half-remaining mags to pick of zombies. Not a perfect solution, but it will enable you to get those mags loaded and down range. ;) Edit: Beaten to it, several posts earlier. You're all much faster than I! -
Your laptop will run the game, though that graphics chipset (and CPU) is entry-level gear, so I wouldn't expect the game to run very well on it. You see, the AMD A4-3300M features graphics processing capabilities (the Radeon HD6480G) integrated into the APU. For more details about the HD6480G, check it out here: http://www.notebookc...0G.55685.0.html Likewise, details on the A4-3300M can be found here: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-A-Series-A4-3300M-Notebook-Processor.55741.0.html So, will it run? Yes. Will it run at a playable framerate? Perhaps not.. Sorry.

Will this PC specisifcations be enough to play DayZ?
Alopex replied to Rustybrown's topic in New Player Discussion
The GeForce 315M is a very basic (and somewhat dated) laptop graphics card. I wouldn't expect the game to run very well on that thing honestly, or any modern games for that matter. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-315M.41529.0.html Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. -
You have been kicked from the game - Playing with brother on same connection
Alopex replied to Woned's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I've encountered this same problem before, as I'm often running three systems playing DayZ from the one location. You will need to go through and start up, then close ArmA 2, followed by ArmA 2: OA, and then Combined Ops through steam on each system, under the correct respective steam accounts (i.e. your account on your computer, your brother's account on his PC). After doing this, start DayZ on both systems and attempt to join a server together. This should solve the problem. -
Will this run dayz? sry dont know much about computers
Alopex replied to liiSA's topic in New Player Discussion
The G51JX-X3 will run the game just fine. Performance at display's native resolution (1920x1080) will be fine. I'd recommend disabling both anti-aliasing and post-processing, however, and if you are troubled with poor frame rate issues, try another server. I say this because servers should be restarted frequently, as the crap that collects on a server during up-time does have the single greatest impact on client performance (your performance), and this is the no.1 reason that people have been complaining about shoddy performance lately. TL;DR: The G51JX-X3 will play ArmA 2, and by extension, DayZ without a problem. I hope you're not paying too much for it though, as it is an outdated laptop now. (second hand I presume?) -
Cheat Finder (script parser for admins)
Alopex replied to disorder's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Nice one! This aught to be very useful. Perhaps we could establish a list of known scripts in this thread also? Would be greatly appreciated. -
While that is entirely plausible, the recent popularity of malicious exploits remains the greater concern. Such a system would require the convergence of several server ban lists, the cooperation of the server administrators and, in accordance with the point that you've raised, mediation of ban requests, probably by the server admins also, as they'll have a mutual interest in maintaining an accurate non-biased record. After all, with access to server logs, the relevant information regarding the conduct of any particular player can be located and assessed. It would be a fair system in theory, the only problem that I can fathom is the (potentially) large contribution of time required from the administrators taking part. If anyone else can come up with something better, or any other potential problems with this idea, that'd be great. Food for thought.

If the choice is between those two? The Winchester, most certainly. audibility has a massive impact on your survival, so having a weapon the doesn't attract half the zombies in the region is preferable. That said, within most zombie-populated environments, use of one's side arm is often the best option unless another player is encountered. All the same, I generally only hold on to either of those two weapons until I can get my hands on military-grade hardware, which doesn't usually take very long.
-
I figure that until the exploits that make this possible are patched up by the dev team, server operators and players could perhaps attempt to log the IDs of the offending players so that a formal black list can be created and applied to each server's list of banned players. It won't prevent the problem entirely, but it should subjugate the known exploiters and prevent further attempts by them, at least reducing the number of attacks that take place until a better solution is established. What do you think? EDIT: I'm suggesting this because obviously the development team has better things to do with their time than to go through cheating accusations and adding names to the global list, so perhaps a community-powered sub-list could be established, in essence incorporating a publicly contributed to, self-moderating black list, which could be utilized by server operators at their discretion, at least until this influx of cheating players either subsides, or is better dealt with.

How can you tell if people are cheating?
Alopex replied to mad_orbitz's topic in New Player Discussion
Unfortunately, playing on populated servers will often mean being prayed on by snipers if you happen to be anywhere within the vicinity of the two largest cities in Chernogorsk (Cherno and Elecktro). Most of the time, these snipers probably aren't hackers, just opportunistic bandits. I recommend staying away from those areas if the server population is anything over 15, and alternatively heading inland. -
AU1 whole server teleported to the same location
Alopex replied to Du-z's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Interesting. This is the second reported instance of this happening that I've read about on the forums in the last two days. It seems that some malicious folks got their hands on a few game exploiting tools and have been using them to grief several servers. Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done to prevent it from happening, though if anyone can nab the names of the offending players, we can at least apply server-side bans to prevent the known cheaters from doing it again on our servers. -
Alright, you should have an option at the bottom of the "Arma 2 has stopped working" window labelled 'view problem details'. Click that and let me know which module is causing the crash, it should be something like xyz.dll (where xyz is the actual dynamic link library in question).
-
This could be a BattlEye issue, though we may need a bit more detail in order to diagnose the problem. Could you describe the crash to us? (eg. Crash to desktop "Arma 2 has stopped working", "No message recieved for x seconds", etc)
-
Okay, you might want to try validating your ArmA 2 and ArmA 2: OA installations with Steam. (Right click the title in your steam games list -> Left click 'properties' -> Left click 'local files' tab -> left click 'Verify integrity of game cache...') After doing this, launch both games through Steam (you can close them once they have successfully launched), then attempt to update via Six Updater, then launch, as you usually would. Hopefully this resolves your problem. If you run into any issues along the way, or if Steam reports that any files fail validation and need to be reacquired (this is good sign), be sure to post the details here. :)
-
It sounds like not all of the game assets required are being loaded in. Are you starting the game with Six Updater?
-
Generally, you'll find that in the case of laptops, upgrading is limited to SODIMM modules (RAM), and hard disks/solid state drives. Also, high performance laptop components draw a lot more power than more economic options (much like a car engine's fuel consumption), so battery life is also quite short compared to most consumer laptops (you may be lucky to get any more than about 2-3 hours out of a full charge, less if gaming). In addition, many high performance components will not operate at their full capacity while running off battery power (underclocking). As such, plugging your laptop in when playing is certainly recommended. Obviously, you will be paying a lot more for a high performance laptop than you would for an equally powerful desktop system, but these are the trade-offs of portable, comparatively light-weight PC gaming. The hardware that you've listed is top of the line at the moment, so you can expect it will do the job for some time to come.
-
The late 2011 Macbook Pros contain either an AMD HD6750M or HD6770M graphics card. These cards are more than powerful enough to run ArmA 2 at a playable frame rate. You may want to check your system specs yourself. To do so, type "Device Manager" into the search prompt of the start menu while you are running Windows via boot camp. Click on the "Display Adapters" tab and let us know what you see. If you do have that same Macbook pro, then you should see either of the two aforementioned adapters listed there, but if it's something else, we'll need to know in order to diagnose your problem. :)
-
Oh, Intel Integrated graphics hardware and demanding games generally don't mix very well. That's probably the reason for your lacking performance. :x
