This seems a bit pretentious, don't you think?

Is it RAM that is my issue? Or is my PC useless?
Alopex replied to danjwalker19's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Exactly what Blunt has said. In case it wasn't clear to you, DDR400 = DDR memory with an operating frequency of 400 MT/s. That's ancient tech dude. It sounds to me like your friend has just ripped you off with a very old computer, upgraded with what is more than likely the AGP model of the HD3850. Realistically though, that card is going to be bottlenecked severely by the rest of the system. Basically, nothing worth holding on to, save for the case perhaps.. Sorry to say, but you're best off getting rid of that thing. -

‘CoD Kiddie’ Analogy Regarding PvP Is Entirely Wrong
Alopex replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There's a very simple explanation for use of the term. Pbremmus has already alluded to it. Association & Adoption. Clearly some members of the community associate shooting on sight and taunting with the stereotyped overly competitive Call of Duty playing kids. A few people initially coined the term, throwing it around in heated web forum topics which were then viewed by others and soon enough, it was a wide-spread and commonly used term for describing players that display this kind of behaviour. (The same theory applies to memes, to some extent.) The accuracy of the phrase is unimportant, after all, it is based on a stereotype. But as the stereotype is well known by the community, it functions well as a means of conveying the concept that it is being used to represent. That is why the term 'CoD Kiddie' is used. TL;DR: It's concise and it expresses the intended concept through a commonly recognized stereotype. -
Good stuff. Have fun.

Okay, the explanation above is somewhat unclear, so lets clear that up for you. THE PROBLEM: As I understand it, you have purchased ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead (OA standalone) and not Combined Operations, which includes ArmA2 and ArmA2: OA. Because DayZ requires resources that are present in ArmA 2, but are not featured in Operation Arrowhead, you will have to copy the addons folder from ArmA 2 into your Operation Arrowhead directory. But because you do not have ArmA 2 (the original game) this isn't possible at the moment. THE SOLUTION: You will need to download ArmA 2 free, which can be acquired here: http://www.arma2.com/free Once you have downloaded and installed ArmA 2 free, you will then need to navigate to it's installation directory and copy the addons folder into your ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead directory (within the steamapps/common/ directory). I hope that this solves your problem. If anything is unclear, or you would like more information, you can find the full instructions here: http://kodabar.blogs...rma-2-free.html Best of luck.

Issues with the DayZ Community - rant, troll and general speculation.
Alopex replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Too right OP, +1 internets for you good sir! The prevalence of hacked-in weapons does not justify their use when presented with the opportunity. I find it fascinating that the community is generally galvanized against hacking within the game, yet some players are willing to scavenge the resulting illegitimate items, all the while having the audacity to claim that because an item was spawned in by someone else, their use of it is somehow rationalized. That is flawed logic, if nothing else. Cognitive dissonance at it's finest... Thanks NZStalker. -
Server admin teleports and cheats
Alopex replied to pumpaberra's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
You were playing on a private hive server, so no action can be taken against the server operators. They are free to do as they please. If you intend to play on servers running private hives and/or custom maps, I'd suggest finding a reputable server with a good community behind it. (though unfortunately not mine for the moment; We're VPN exclusive and are not currently accepting new players ) -
Edit: By the way, without going too far off topic, does anyone know what the maximum allowed resolution of embedded images is? (you know, before it is delegated to a link?)
-
It isn't the zombie model detail/complexity that limits the server's capacity to handle more of them, as the server does not actually have to visually render anything, the additional load to the server comes as a result of having to perform additional calculations in accordance with the number of active zombie instances, and the bandwidth required to share this data with the connected clients. In other words, the limitations are still in place, regardless of the state of the zombie models.

Horrible framerate lag on an above average gaming PC! Help!
Alopex replied to Switchfoot221's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Thanks Nik. So supersampling anti-aliasing results in greater visual fidelity when compared with multisampling anti-aliasing. As you said, it is downsampling from the higher resolution source, as opposed to MSAA's per-pixel method at the native resolution. So essentially, SSAA provides a more accurate anti-aliasing solution at some additional processing expense. :) -
Gaming PC lag after a few minutes of play
Alopex replied to Nasakenai's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I have also experienced this issue with my PC. I think that it may have something to do with having a CrossfireX setup as I have two HD4870s in CFX with identical symptoms. As even a single HD6990 is overkill for ARMA 2:OA, you may want to try disabling CFX under Catalyst Control Centre, then launching the game (running on a single card). I haven't tried this myself, as I play on a gaming laptop most of the time, but it seems like it may be worth trying. I hope that helps. -
Agreed. It is designed to be a large-scale multiplayer game/mod for a reason. Player interactions should (and do) take precedence over PvE gameplay. :)

Horrible framerate lag on an above average gaming PC! Help!
Alopex replied to Switchfoot221's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I've never quite understood the purpose behind setting the 3D display resolution to anything over 100%. Essentially all that it results in is some (very inefficient) anti-aliasing, right? I suppose that if the game is consistently running at over 60 fps it might be feasible, or perhaps there's something I'm missing. :P -

Just out of curiosity, what are you using to record gameplay? There may be more efficient applications available to you that don't affect the performance of the game quite so adversely.
