I'm inclined to set stuff aside and say this. I love first person, I use it most of the time (even in ArmA), but taking out third person is by no means, a solution. I only mean to defend the people who use it. Sure it isn't too "realistic" but it is an attempt at making up for senses you can't use (read that somewhere). As for this "proof" "It's cheating"/"giving an unfair advantage" While it is true, you have to think. Even if they weren't hiding behind something, odds are you still wouldn't see them. Hiding behind something is taking away the possibility that they see you. They eventually have to get out of that cover to shoot you. Think about it, you're hiding next to a log or in tall grass with someone walking by. In real life, you'd be able to peak over it instead of exposing your whole body correct? In the game there is no way to do that, third person can help that. Now seeing over and around walls is a whole nother story... If you really think about it, it just makes you kind of a dick if you use it like that... but from what I've seen, they might be trying to eliminate that, like zooming in like you had our back to something... not to sure about that"It's unrealistic" Well sure, but think about it, if someone walks up to you from the side, you wouldn't know unless you looked that way. that's just how games are. Third person lets you see them when they get close.(also the log thing I said in the previous bullet) Like I said before, it just makes up for senses you can't use in game. Seems alright to me...Making it first person only is "How the game should be"/"How it's designed" This is most definitely not true and is the most bias thing you've said. When you can give me written proof as to where a developer has said that the game was designed to be the most hardcore realistic game out there, and solid proof that it is designed around being first person, then I will agree. You have to remember that this is a game, not only does it have to be fun, but it has to keep peoples attention. While first person is fun, others find third person fun. Everyone has their own play style, and you want to eliminate the people who play in third person. Getting rid of third person would get rid of about 3/4 of the community and the devs would get SO much shit for it. It's impractical to get rid of something that is being used so much. I have no beef with you, I do not want to be your enemy, but the constant "you're obviously not reading my posts" is borderline irritating... I am reading your posts, but when I respond, it seems like you would rather push what I'm saying out of the way and continue on. I am giving you reasons why it shouldn't be removed, and you continuously repeat yourself. I hope you have a good day and I hope you are enjoying your time in Chernogorsk, survivor.

They're making Hardcore servers and there has been those servers in the past. But this guy thinks that they shouldn't split them up and everyone should play this way.
-
I tried reasoning with him, telling him that it's something that is pretty much has to stay in, but he just goes on about how it's bad for the game or destroying it. When it's not. A suggestion can only be taken seriously when it makes sense. Removing third person would take away about 3/4 the population of the game and yet he still wants it taken away? Rediculous... It's there for a reason, and people use it all the time... taking it away is just insane. It would be more game breaking than leaving it in, or even the server issue. It is truly arrogant to believe that taking something that everyone uses away, will make things better. It's not game breaking, nor ruining any ones fun (except for his apparently) to have it in this game. So why take it out? because he doesn't want it in. I tried to have a respectful discussion, but when the other party doesn't think about others. It's difficult to say the least.

I'm not sure how you come to these conclusions, but it's like watching a dog chase it's tail. First person being better is by no means, a fact. It will never be the master of all perspectives. You forget that ArmA was a hardcore mil sim before DayZ was even thought about, and absolutely no one bitched and moaned as bad as you are about third person. They just made their own server and went about their business, never to speak of it again. It's a part of the game, it works for those who like it and yet here you are, saying "it's not my opinion, but I know that first person is better"... how do you know this? because you believe that it would be better for all and no one would complain if they just took third person out. That, is what we call opinion. No matter what you do or how you change the game, people will always kill each other (some even without speaking), there is no way in hell you can stop that and there's sure as hell no way that taking out third person will stop it... People find the game fun, not because it's so close to realism you can practically taste it... that's just stupid. They like it because no matter how you play it, you can have fun. Third person isn't killing the game, things that people like and use that are being removed, is what is killing the game. And at the moment, nothing is killing the game. People play it with the little amount of stuff we have and still have fun. It's not dead nor dying because third person is in it, taking it out would kill it. If those arguments are all that you've heard, then you are ignorant or just haven't read close enough. People prefer third person like you prefer first. I haven't heard much of motion sickness, but I get where they are coming from. I just decrease head bob. Situational Awareness is a biggy. If you wanted true awareness of your surroundings, you'll need your senses about you. You need to hear the things around you, make full use of your eyes, and know what you are standing on or around. The sound quality in this game is kinda bad, but it's improving greatly. To be able to use your eyes to the fullest extent, you need to use your peripheral vision and be able to concentrate on certain things. In order to get peripherals, you'd need to fit 180% into a flat monitor in front of you. that doesn't quite work out. One thing that strikes me as odd is that you complain about third person, and yet in first person you can still zoom with your eyes... now I don't know if it's just me, but I can't zoom with my eyes. In game it is used to resemble your character focussing on something in the distance. Is zooming hardcore realistic? hell no. Is it resembling something that you can do in real life? absolutely. As far as I can tell the only arguments you have for it is; it's realistic, it's fair, it will make the game better, using third person is cheating... all sound like opinion to me You point out that situational awareness isn't a big deal anymore if we just take out third person... I'm a bit confused by this because well, it makes no sense... you mean to say that by taking everyones vision away, the world will be a better place? Imagine this, you are sitting, looking in a direction and someone walks up to your side... a full 90% from you. In real life you could tell someones there, in game you cannot. That could just be a life and death situation, but you chose death. Catch my drift? These little details that they added are to help make up for what a video game cannot. Servers... Servers will always be like this... ALWAYS... you can get a group of people and join a near empty server and loot to your delight, then go to another server. Easy. For people who make private servers, I'm sure it will be like the mod, no connection to the hive. No looting in your own, then joining a public server. As I said before, servers with tons of weapons and vehicles is not idiotic, nor is it destroying the game. It is an adaptation to certain peoples play styles. Some want to get a gun and shoot things, some (like me) just want to drive around all day. You go to those servers and have fun doing what you want. It's not like you can take them with you to another server (unless they're linked). The game has always been on track, but it's people like you who don't want certain things in the game, even though they are a full fledged feature, to be removed that are bumping the game off it's tracks.
-
I didn't skim at all, I fully understand what you're saying. You want everyone to only have the option of first person because it is "fair". But like I said, that makes you arrogant. You want everyone to change how they play to suit your play style so that you don't have to deal with third person players. You don't care if they like third person, you want it removed because that's how it "should" be according to you. I get that you want it to be a "hardcore simulator", but the truth that the FOV slider is an insta-fix for perspective is somewhat false. You lose perception the higher you get it. It shrinks and distorts your screen so that you can see to your sides on a flat monitor. Third person allows a wider field of view as well as giving a bit more situational awareness If you think that everyone should bow down to the first person players, then you are wrong in every way. I started off playing ARMA 2 and watched as DayZ became what it is today. I was here from the first public release of the mod and I have to say, it's come a long way. I can also say that if it wasn't for third person, I would never have survived multiple situations. Not because I see people around corners or over objects, but because I had more situational awareness. There is no master race in this, no first person or third person side of a war. Everybody has their own way of playing, and if you can't respect that, and can't get over the fact that third person is an option, then don't play the game. You say that not playing is a stupid idea, but I say it suits you. You have no respect for peoples decisions and would rather complain that people use a feature that you don't like. It's in the game and it's not leaving. It's your choice to use it or not. If people want to use it, then they will use it. It's a feature and will be used as such. As for servers, I see no reason why people can't choose to have a different kind of play style. If people want more guns, then give them guns. Odds are that they usually can't get one without dying, or can't keep one in any normal server. If they want a ton of vehicles, let them have vehicles. Personally I hope there are a ton of vehicles because that's how it should be. Tons of vehicles and little gas. First person servers are a kind of rare breed because there aren't many people that hate third person. If you truly wish to argue this point, then please give some good reasons. You wanting it to be a certain way because you feel heavily that it should be that way, is not a good reason.

bind your z key from "prone", to "go prone". voila

I fail to see how having first person only servers are creating problems. It gives people an option. The FOV slider is a great addition to the game, I personally increased it for my game. My "argument" wasn't for or about me, I love first person, but there are people that do love third person. There are people out there that feel more comfortable playing in third person, not because they want to cheat or have a huge advantage or everyone else, but because they like third person. For instance, if people are coming from true MMO's they tend to like third person because they are used to it. If you still hate third person and everyone that uses it, you are truly an arrogant person. Just because you think it's bad, doesn't mean it is. You don't like it? Don't use it. You don't want it to be in the game? Don't play the game. Simple. I am by no means, trying to promote use of one or the other, nor am I trying to put you down in anyway, but if you don't respect other peoples opinions, then your opinion shouldn't deserve respect, fair and square. Rocket has made it easy for people to choose a certain play style, and he fully expects people to use the features given to them, third person being one of them. He has talked about people being able to see around corners with third person before, so he knows it's there. Perhaps a fix will emerge, who knows.
-
The third person feature is there to help with "peripheral vision". While being able to see behind you or around corners is a major draw back, so is not being able to see things to your sides with out turning your head every which way. If third person is such a big problem, find a first person only server and bam, no longer a problem. For helicopters, I kind of have to agree. I hate when I set up a nice place and I hear a helo fly over and I have to cower in fear in hopes they won't come mow me down. Perhaps a fix would be to make it a rare item. I believe at one point Rocket said that there were certain items that had a certain amount of them spread through out the entirety of the servers, so some servers might never have one at all. Or even have servers that "ban" them. Personally I find them to be good transport, but I wouldn't mind having only cars and trucks. Perhaps taking the mounted MG's away might help.

You can already flip them the bird, you just have to bind the key for it... controls>interaction>taunt

So, I've been playing this mod for a while, and there are definitely somethings that I've noticed that could make vehicles in general, seem a lot smoother, and better. Animations of the character interacting with the car (ex. steering the wheel, turning the car on, opening the door, getting in the car, etc.) A radio... Sometimes, when I am driving from one place to the other, it seems very plain, so I'll turn on music from my playlist, but when I get shot at, or I veer off course and crash, I am in a rush to turn off the music, which means Alt Tabbing, pausing the music, and going back into the game. This becomes a major annoyance. So having the ability to turn on and off a car (or even handheld) radio with a hot key would be awesome and entertaining. Players could also be able to import their own music to play over the radio, though that could probably be used profoundly. The ability to lock your car. (from the outside or inside) 9 times out of 10, I'll go on a giant trip collecting gear and repairing a car, driving that car around filling it with guns or equipment I can't keep on my guy, just for it to be stolen while I am either away or offline. In my opinion, it would make sense to add keys. No car can start without a key, so you obviously need them to drive. You could also take the keys, and have them in your inventory, to trade off, or to make sure no one takes your car. This could bring up a few problems while finding cars, you could find cars that are locked and can't be looted, you could find cars with no keys, or even cars that have a broken lock and can't be locked. This would also bring up a new problem. (3.5) The ability to steal cars or loot in the cars. Having the ability to lock cars would be a little stupid without a counter to it (especially if it's YOUR stolen gear), so having the ability to break into cars would be a great way to even it out. If you have a melee weapon, you can bash in the window, but this will set off the alarm (if it has one) and the alarm can only be deactivated by the key, or wire cutters (if you catch my drift) but that is only how to get in the car. In order to start the car and drive away, you need to hot wire the car which would be a long (annoying) task indeed. The last idea on my list is a bit crazy, but would definitely happen if an apocalypse was to come. The ability to attach things to your car. Imagine it, a truck with a plow and metal panels on it's sides and rear with metal bars over the windshield. (Like "Death Race" or the infamous "Battle Bus") This could also help prevent the inevitable, getting killed in your car, you could put metal sheeting on windows with slot in them to see out of. So, those were ideas that I thought about while playing the game, and yes, I know that the last idea was a bit crazy If you have anything that you want to change about mine, or have any other ideas that pertain to cars in the game, I would gladly listen to what you have to say. (P.S. COMIC SANS!)

It all began at 11:25 AM Eastern Time. I was driving my Military Offroad on a server that a friend had started on, when I come across a guy running across the street, I pick him up (like the nice guy I am,) He didn't sound that old, so I blew it off thinking it was just another kid. I drove around a bit more till I stopped to look at a bus. As soon as I got out of the Offroad, I noticed something very weird, whenever I looked at him I got a sort of "aimbot" that made me aim at his head whenever I got even close to aiming at him. I confronted him about it and he mumbled about it (I later found out that it was him telling me that HE was the hacker). I messaged everyone in side chat asking if anyone was having the same issue, and soon after I got a message that popped up in the center of my screen saying "shut up n***** " . He asked me if I got it, I said 'no' to be sure that he was the hacker. He then announced (again) that he was the hacker. After I heard this I shot him multiple times with the CZ that I had acquired on my short journey, but it had no effect on him. I jumped into my Offroad and tried to drive off, but was soon bombarded by minigun fire around ground level from his direction. After my death, I announced to the server that he was a hacker and listed off those reasons, and I got a quick reply from ZerteC saying that if I didn't shut up that he would "shut my key" I have no video, nor pictures of this happening Server: DayZChernarus - [500+ Vehicles 20+ Helicopter/Planes][Auto Refuel][increased Barracks][Donator Perks][24/7 Day Server][increased Starting Loadout][RECRUIT] Even if you can't stop this script kiddie. I still think it's a funny story to go in the books.

I didn't choose the server, my friend did, but you are absolutely right... But even with that being true, it's still not cool of anyone to do stuff like that even if they find it hilarious (like I did).

[DayZ SA] Car Locking, Keys, and Alarms - Realistic Vehicles
grim981 replied to xDIx Revenge's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
So, I guess it is ironic that I told you that it's been said before, because I had the same happen to me, but I said it because it sounded a lot like mine. And no, I did not copy other people at all I may have quite similar things, but I didn't copy. Btw, I did not mean to insult you if that is what you got out of it, I wasn't blaming you for anything I was simply informing you. [DayZ SA] Car Locking, Keys, and Alarms - Realistic Vehicles
grim981 replied to xDIx Revenge's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I don't mean to be an ass in this particular situation, but this has been discussed, by me as well. It's called "Vehicle Suggestions" , because I go over more than just this, but I go into just as much detail on the locking and hijacking details. -
So, in DayZ there seems to be a food chain, all determined by the experience and loot that you have, but there should be ways that can sort of even the playing field. Military. This would be map and server dependent. Main Idea: There could be a somewhat constant military convoy (HMMWV (w/o guns), Camo Ural) that drives on the main highways (outskirts of the map), and occasionally to the airfields. 1. They would be hostile to bandits, friendly to normal survivors (but a bit edgy if you have a gun), and very welcoming to heroes. They would communicate though radios (if they exist), and talk to you if you are close enough, telling you to back off, to put your weapon down, or ask if you need anything (food, water, a lift). 2. This would attract a lot of attention for anyone who wants military equipment fast, but it will be a challenge to get. The number of heavily armed, trained men would be very hard to take out, but if you can, you're heavily armed and have some great vehicles to throw around. 3. This would also mean that people would be more cautious in the towns or cities near the coast or near airfields. (Imagine being stuck in a building in Cherno or Electro because the military are right outside.) 4. The Military's mood/"edgyness" would depend on the current events. For example, if they were just shot at, they would be more bound to shoot at you without warning, if they just found survivors, they'd be more bound to welcome you with open arms (unless you're a bandit), or if they are running low on food and water, they won't ask if you need any. 5. The Military's vehicles won't run on unicorn farts, they will eventually run low on gas meaning they will stop to refuel which brings up my next point. 6. Trading with the Military. If you have something they need, they will be open to trade more unique stuff, like binoculars, toolbox, ammo or attachments for a gun, or maybe even a sidearm Now, I know that the game is nearly done, and this is a big thing to add (though it can somewhat already be scripted in), but in my eyes, everywhere I look I see remnants of the military everywhere, but no one to show for it. I know people are going to say that this is "cheap" and "shows no skill" if they get the military equipment, but in reality, it shows more skill than going to a populated area, or being lucky enough to find a helicopter crash. I welcome all feedback and would love to hear from you guys and girls.

In response to "Neko-san" All very good points, with a slightly twisted way of looking at things (no offence). This whole thing is merely a suggestion and is not meant to be a demand. From what I've heard myself (I haven't been one to stalk the forums for everything that Rocket says) He more of says "People should make up the story" than "You have to go and get gear, then kill people for entertainment". He has (to my knowledge) never ruled out having military, but only talked about changing zombies behavior.
-
In response to "Gews": You wouldn't have to hear them yelling to each other (since I know how annoying that is). The NPC are a bit weird when moving around on foot, but firing their weapons, they are almost unmatched (they have eagle eyes) In response to "ididi9": I'm not sure what you meant by "raided by a ground", but I'm going to take it that you meant "raided by bandits". I'm pretty sure that you don't turn into a bandit by killing bandits. (but their have been people who trick the system) I defiantly think there should be something to tell the difference between self defense and banditry. In response to "Neko-san" Thank you for the advertisement, but this is a whole different idea. You talk about BEING the military, but I'm talking about the military already being there and are trying to keep things from getting out of hand, and helping out survivors.
-
In response to "HKilf": The music would be CD(s) and makeshift radio transmitters (maybe),some military bases have antennas. It would also be interesting because people could make their own CD(s). Thank you for your feedback.
-
In response to "Grodenn": Thanks for the feedback. I know it's been told many times over, but I wrote this topic so that I could talk about how I saw it, and not have it be lost in many pages of the same topic. In response to "Enforcer": Now, I don't know if you're just messing with me or you just don't understand (no offence). I know what this game is about and why it was made, that's why I bought it a few years back unlike about 1/3 of the population that play this game (maybe more). Going back to what I said previously, the animations wouldn't be there to make the game look pretty, it would be there to make taking of cars a slower process. Referring to the radio, no, the military don't have "10000 watt sound systems" in their vehicles, but last time I checked civilians were allowed to have radios in their cars. Keep in mind that this whole mod is about random people who wake up on the shore, and venture inland into towns were civilians used to live (obviously you make up the story from there). Regarding the option to attach options, objects can look clunky if you use the most simplistic script, but if you get into the more advanced scripting, you can make it look like it was made to be there. Thanks to both of you for your feedback and criticism.
-
In response to "Enforcer": I know it sounds like it's made for looks, but in reality it will make the whole "taking cars" process a lot longer (and more realistic). In my life, I've never seen someone who teleports into a car, starts it, and takes off within 3 seconds. Like I explained, I usually get pretty bored when I am driving long distances, or waiting for someone, so listening to music makes it less boring. (3 and 4): That's the whole point, if your car has broken windows you can't say, "Well, 3rd person it is!" and drive on. Adding this feature will make people pay more attention to that detail. This feature is already in the game. In the mission editor, you have the option to attach objects to other objects. For a great example, search "ARMA 2 Battle Bus" on YouTube. I appreciate your criticism, but I know a lot about this game already.
