I run a community server and I was wondering, when version 1.0 comes out tomorrow, will a wipe be required, recommended or not needed? Can a developer chime in?
-
I ended up adjusting my server's settings so 12 hours of in-game time passes during a server cycle (4 hours). It starts off at dawn, with some darkness and the sun starting to rise and when the server is getting close to restart, the sun starts to go down. Ever since the A2 days, I've found that a large percent of the players log off when total night hits.
-
Hopefully this is fixed in version 1.0, but for now the only way to get it to work is editing the value in init.c.

In addition to other controllers, check to see if you have an up-to-date driver for your mouse.

I understand about editing the zombie_territories.xml file to change the number of zombies spawning and where they spawn. I also understand the editing of the events.xml to determine the chances of each type of zombie to spawn. What I'd like to hear from a Developer about is an explanation of how the server determines when and where to spawn zombies. I've adjusted the zombie settings in those files and when I've played, I've encountered a good number of zombies. My question is does the spread of the players on the server affect the spawning of the zombies? For example, if zombies are spawned in towns near a few players, do they not spawn in other areas? Do I need to adjust the "SpawnInitial" and "ZombieMaxCount" numbers in the globals.xml? Is there a reason why the zombie numbers have been made so low by default? If a Developer could respond to this, that would be awesome of you guys. I'm sure many other people are wondering about the same thing. I ask because a server regular of mine posted the following question to me:

Can a developer answer a question about zombie spawns?

That sets the hard limit for the maximum number of zombies that can spawn on the entire map, based on the settings in the other files. -
Do people think they are going from the current stable release to 1.0? I'm sure there are versions after that, which the dev team has been working on, playing, testing, that we don't have access to.

Just something to make it easier next time, pressing F12 takes a screenshot...

I found that and started it, but I have no idea what I'm looking at or how to do anything with it. -

I installed DayZ Tools, but every time I start it, it closes right away and opens the local folder with the DayZ Tools files in it. -

I have edited those files that determine static and dynamic spawns. That's the part I understand. I don't know what ceeditor is. I will look into that though. -
Can a developer answer a question about zombie spawns?

Yeah, as I said, I understand that part. I am looking for a Developer to explain if the game handles spawning of zombies in some weird way that is affected by player count or number of zombies already on the server. -

Could you tell me what your "SpawnInitial" and "ZombieMaxCount" numbers are in the globals.xml file? -
I've adjusted my zombie numbers in events.xml and zombie_territories.xml so that I have more zombies on my server. However, it seems that when zombies spawn in an area, they are all the same model for a particular spawn. For example, here's a screenshot from outside of a cowshed, where I killed a bunch of zombies. Why aren't there a variety of zombies? They're all the female zombie in the tracksuit.
-
Actually, the "min=" setting in events.xml is the PERCENT chance of that zombie type spawning. I didn't understand that so I had it set to 250, which meant that 250% of the zombies would be that one model. Here's what I have in "InfectedArmy" so there's an even chance of all 5 types of Army zombies: <child lootmax="5" lootmin="0" max="0" min="20" type="ZmbM_PatrolNormal_Autumn"/> <child lootmax="5" lootmin="0" max="0" min="20" type="ZmbM_PatrolNormal_Flat"/> <child lootmax="5" lootmin="0" max="0" min="20" type="ZmbM_PatrolNormal_PautRev"/> <child lootmax="5" lootmin="0" max="0" min="20" type="ZmbM_PatrolNormal_Summer"/> <child lootmax="5" lootmin="0" max="0" min="20" type="ZmbM_SoldierNormal"/>

I made a fire barrel a few days ago. It was gone the next day when I logged in. Don't expect anything to be persistent except for your character until the game is out of beta.

It's still a beta. Tents and bases tend to disappear because they still need more work.

This is the first time I've read this thread since I posted yesterday, so I never saw that reply here regarding the tool.

You're opted into the experimental branch on your client. Opt out and you'll be able to play.

I got it going. You need a tool from the DZSA launcher site, then something in the server cfg. I got it working thanks to a guy on the DZSA Launcher Discord.

I'm putting these notes here for anyone that might come across this thread later on... The min="5" in events.xml, in the list of each type of zombie is the percent of that type of zombie, so if you set one zombie's "min" to 80, then 80% of the zombies will be that type... now I understand this a little better! :)

After looking at my events.xml, I think I might have found the problem. I set max=20 for every zombie so I think that forced the first zombie in each list to be the only one that spawned. Changed those back to 0 to see what happens.
