I think it's hilarious that they took them out completely. Why not just remove the unprofessional names? That way we could keep the variety of items. There have been countless wonderful suggestions on how the mod devs can pay homage to themselves in the game. I think we all agree some of the names were OK some of them were ridiculous. No offense Devs, but for a group of people who are supposedly doing this for the love of the game... where is the humility? Also, can anyone tell me why they added all the straight razors? Is is simply a nod to R4AZOR49? I suggested this in an earlier post but no one commented. Seriously, there should not be this many straight razors when the game is set in the current era. Not that I'm a stickler on realism, but that was more upsetting to me than the can names. The rest of the changes are great! Though,has anyone noticed a huge screen tear on there server at the corner of the Berenzino industrial docs north of town?

Man, this whole food thing got kinda crazy in the last twenty-four hours huh? I think other foods that need prepared would be cool. I don't want it to turn into elder scrolls but creating some basic medicines and foods could be cool.

This probably isn't the proper place for this comment so please let me know. I didn't have a huge problem with the food names. Then again, I only played for a few hours yesterday and didn't get to run around much. I did see an abundance of straight razors, I'm assuming this is a nod to R4ZOR49, and toilet paper appearing in barns. Like I said the food names were fine, but I'm not sure how I feel about all the straight razors and toilet paper. I mean straight razors haven't been in wide circulation since the twenties. I use a safety razor and feel like a fossil. On an actual gameplay note. I think the zombies seem to work much better, they don't glitch through walls as much and I love that you can be running through an open field alone in the far north and they spawn based on your presence (try it its true). But, they are so dumb again. I miss the 1.7.5 level of voracity with which they hunted and grouped together. Anyway, no one asked me, but I think there are a lot of things to discuss with 1.7.6 and very few of them are negative. Seriously has anyone else even noticed that Zeds spawn in rural locations? I haven't seen it mentioned once.

Hey all! Come join us on an amazing private hive. I'm looking to help out new survivors and even teach people the ropes of dayz a bit. The server I play on is run by DIS gaming and it's really great. Whitelisting may or may not be active depending on the time you try to get on but I can assure you just email the admin and he'll have you set up in minutes. I've been playing with these people for a couple months. There is PVP if you like that. There are bandits to keep things exciting. There are a lot of choppers and tons of vehicles. Be prepared to scavenge because most vehicles need a little work. Also, the map has been customized a bit so there are a few extra buildings. I won't tell you where as half the fun is rediscovering Chernarus all over again. All I can say is, there was a lot of thought put into the custom buildings and its not overkill. In fact, they've added a lot of rewarding locations specifically with foot travel in mind, so I would say the site is definitely new player friendly. I've been trying to play a medic / trainer of sorts and it's been a blast. Right now, I think we need more lone wolf style players but whatever works. Bring your friends. The admins set up a beautiful and intense race starting at NE airfield on motorcycles, hopping in trucks at Berezino, PBX at Krustoy Cap, and topping it off with a foot race to the peak of Skalisty Island. But are you technically leaving it unguarded, if you log out right next to it. As far as realism in the game is concerned, and I know we're all concerned with that, when I log out what is my character doing in this immersive world? Sleeping, away, I'm not sure. I understand what the OP is getting at. When I log out right next to my items should they be fair game?

Private or public server? Have you checked between restarts? Have you moved the tent and added items? Have you added an item after a restart and checked again after the next restart? I'm thinking about writing a post on this. I did a lot of tent testing over the weekend.

The Bizon is the worst weapon because it gives new players the illusion that they've found something AWESOME. As in: "Oh man, oh man, oh man, my first heli crash site!!! Nice, found a Bizon my first silenced weapon!! Yay yay yay, Ok there's no ammo with it but SURELY I'll find some." Nope, in fact by finding the bizon you'v only decreased the size of your back pack by ten slots. Until, that is, you decide to drop it for the Ak-74 Kobra you'll find almost every time you cycle the tents in stary. The crossbow would be great but it has a similar issue. The ammo is ridiculous. Each round takes up an entire slot and you can't retrieve the bolt from bodies. I've honestly never even picked up a crowbar because I read about it before I started playing.

Hi Everyone! I've been playing a lot lately on Dayz Chernarus US 1462 it is one of two DIS Gaming servers. The other being a recently opened Tavania server. I just wanted to send this out as an invite to new players looking for their first stable server experience. If you've been server hopping come by and think about sticking around for a while. There are great admins and hacking is minimal. When the server has been hacked in the past they've done everything they can to make things right. It restarts four times a day at 6am 12pm 6pm and 12am. There are 200 vehicles and plenty of nice random loot sites, but it doesn't feel like admins run amok, in other words the map is pretty much in it's original state except for a few more vehicles and random loot sites. The server resets are spaced in a way that you will be able to find crashed heli sites that haven't been looted. I hope all of that makes sense. It is filled with mostly friendly players and at least one stable clan. I feel like it is mostly lone wolf players right now. I am one myself. But lately, I've found the need to reach out to other friendly players. I have a very well established, well hidden base and could definitely bring at least one,possibly two, other players into my fold. I'm looking to participate in a little team building. So come and play on the server! It's really well maintained and oriented towards grown up players. If you want to join up with me specifically, I'm willing to show you the ropes but I would prefer if you read some tutorials on your own or at least complete some of the ARMA II practice missions to get ready. I would prefer you be over thirty years old and enjoy teamwork. Preferably you'll play at least an hour in the evening and a good bit on the weekends. It would be great if you were patient and not only understood how to farm loot, but enjoyed it as well. I would really like to find another solid player or two to team up with on this server. I have a lot of collateral and could use some help protecting it. Anyway, send me a message or respond if you're interested. Sorry this is really two topics. Basically US 1462 is awesome! And I'm looking to team up with someone.

Yay! Please search 24/7 Drifting in dayz commander or set search filter to this in game search. It is a wonderful community but you need to get whitelisted. It is quick and easy just email GUID and in game name to [email protected] Everyone there is really nice. It's lowly populated on weekdays but gets up to 15 or 20 players on weekends. There's 250 vehicles... Anyway, it's Chernarus map. I hope to see you there!!!

I agree with some of the previous posts that talk about just how damn dark it is all the time and the fact that a players eyes would adjust. I think that keeps people out of night more than other players with NVGs so you're right on with that statement. But the reason people don't play populated servers is because the lag can get atrocious and they get hacked once every twenty-four hours if not more often than that.

I can honestly say, that I have been playing dayz for eight full weeks. I've been playing it at a much higher rate than any other video game I've ever played. I've logged over 200 hours in that time period and I'm just starting to get board. My advice, buy it, start with nothing on a server with a day night cycle and hone your skill. Do that for a couple weeks then find a steady 24/7 daylight server to play on. It'll be worth it. Plus I don't know where you live but Spring is a little ways away, so why not enjoy the last of winter with a little (or a lot of) DayZ.

It's been so great hearing all the responses to the questions I've raised. I honestly see every side of this discussion. The most exciting thing about all of this to me is the fact that there is actually research being done at accredited Universities on this subject. I should start another thread about the Harvard study that linked improvements in hand eye coordination and increased problem solving skill to limited game play. I love that study because it basically found that video games are a great tool for learning. On the other hand, there have been cases of near starvation and malnutrition reported in Japan due to excessive game play.Anyway, I don't think you're a psychopath at all. I think you are just enjoying an escape like all of us, but Hogs makes a great point. Killing a fresh spawn is a jerk move no matter how you slice it because you control your actions within the context of the game. In the post I made about quitting I mentioned that I play the hero because I am NOT a hero in real life. I want to escape and revel in the satisfaction that dayz give me by allowing me to be a savior or a teacher/guide to another player. My reasons for playing are no different than the player who sits on a hill shooting people with no weapons. It gives me joy.

I wouldn't say people were begging me not to go. There were just a lot of people who encouraged me to stay because there are so few dedicated "hero" players in dayz. The game is very very fun and a great escape. That's why I came back. I've lightened up. I'm eating crow in order to try and keep my credibility. I'm just trying to admit that I over reacted. I was wrong. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

I like the second part of your statement, but I don't think they should be removed. Though, it is a serious advantage when playing at night. I've played a lot at night without them, but I do avoid night servers now. Hmmm... It would be interesting if they spawned at higher percentages for an hour or two in the dead of night. Whatcha think?

I don't mind an honest bandit. But I will try to convince you, there's always a time for redemption. Watch this for inspiration.

There is definitely a lot of information on this subject out there. What I found really interesting is that some cognitive psychologists are actually designing video games to test their theories. Perhaps today, they would use a game to perform the famous Milgram experiment. Anyway, thanks for replying.

I take no issue with your observation. I agree. There are many reasons why we play video games and DayZ is definitely a strong draw.
