It's all about the availability of ammo. In the US, I would approximate, that 90% of households have up to 1000 rounds of 22 ammo. Hell I have 2500 rounds and I'm not even a gun nut. Just read about the recent 22 ammo shortage and that will tell you how many rounds are out there. It's a great weapon with plenty of ammo, awesome for the apocalypse. My grandfather raised cattle and he would kill them for slaughter with a 22. One well placed shot behind the ear and they went down right away.

Get back under your bridge little uneducated troll.

He's actually right. They are extremely deadly, especially up close, and very very quiet.

This is so, true. And a shot in the arm or ass would cause significant discomfort and chance of infection.

Rarest items for me: Pristine scopes - found 1 Walkie Talkie - found 1 Pliers - found 1 Also, I've only found 1 blood test kit and two boxes of cereal.

A quick note: Those of us that played the mod have an entirely different perspective of what it means to be griefed. I feel that the alpha has already leveled the playing field in so many ways. In the mod, we were killed from 700 yards out often by the incredibly overpowered and unrealistic AS50. I mean you could run across the map while holding the thing for crying out loud. I don't know if any of this will lessen KOS except for the gun care thing. If you don't have a fully functioning weapon properly sighted in you won't be able to KOS. The funnest part of the Alpha for me so far has been seeking out "pristine" versions of all my equipment. I think some of your suggestions relating to gun maintenance would add a lot of enjoyment to the game for me. I think that if I knew that you had to maintain the weapon and work hard for the "right" to KOS, I also wouldn't feel as bad when I was killed. I think I would feel that the other player had earned that right. Same goes for players that love vehicles. It should cost you a lot of room in your pack to fix up a vehicle, no more holding two tires and an ENGINE in your back pack. I think a properly optimized stamina and carry capacity system would provide a lot of the fixes you suggest. Realistically, if my character was carrying around everything he is currently carrying, he would be moving slow and resting often. I think that each item one chooses to add to their inventory should provoke serious contemplation. The alpha has already improved upon this greatly. For instance, I choose to carry the hunter backpack due to its increased camouflage characteristics even though ti has five less slots than the mountain backpack which is brightly colored and can be see from further away. I hope all of this makes sense. Sorry for the rambling. Also, nice take on a tired argument. I feel like eventually we can make this better.

In arma you normally need suppressor and sd rounds for the full benefit. I haven't seen SD rounds yet.

Desert Eagle, I'm fine with, but the best thing about the game right now is the fact that the lack of high grade military gear has evened the playing field. Please, don't bring back the AS50.

This is one of the most ridiculous crying posts I've ever read.

Why do you "have" to feel bad for being a bandit/kos?
Dr. Goner replied to Nesuma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Here's how I feel about KOS. I honestly would rather hook up with other players, especially now in the standalone, in order to try out the new blood system and what not. But the fact is, I've been shot in Cherno after asking about a can opener and shot in the back at NWAF with no warning at all. If I see a group of players, I observe and move in the opposite direction as fast as possible. If I see a solo player, sorry fella, I have to assume that if you had seen me first you would have killed me. I learned my lesson quickly. It's kill or be killed at this point. I should note that my current character is almost four DayZ old. Here's my kill list: Fella hopped into the same military building as me in Zelenogorsk. I felt bad as he was just spawing in but upon inspecting his gear it was blatantly obvious that he had been server hopping. He just got greedy and hopped one time to many. I ruined all his shit and gained almost nothing except my life. I was monitoring the new shipwreck from the hill cautiously planning my approach. A player came running in. He had a mosin and I watched him for a while. He set up on the bow of the ship and began watching the tree line with gun drawn. I'll let you assume what he was up to. I shot him in the back from 400 yards, had my M4 zeroed to 400 just so you know, he combat logged instantly or his body disappeared any way. I was inside a military building at NEAF. My character is moaning like crazy for some reason and when I heard a player enter on the first floor I assumed he would hear my moans and be extremely cautious. But no, he came running up the stairs and I filled him full of lead. His body, was pulled out the building by unseen forces and when I went outside it was still moving away from me. I gained nothing from this other than my life. Not sure if these explanations help, but I thought it may give insight somehow into why experienced players in the North do what they do. EDIT: There was a time when I wouldn't kill. In the mod I worked very hard to never kill any players. My goal was to be a medic and it worked most of the time. Hopefully, I'll still be able to live that dream in standalone, but man, once you get the taste of blood, both from being killed and killing, it's hard to resist. My heart hasn't beat so hard when playing a game since the early days of the mod. It's awesome so far. -
Here's the problem with your suggestion: It causes more problems than it solves. I have yet to find myself, after nearly thirty hours of play, in a "bug" situation that made me want to respawn. My character has been screwed a couple times and I was wishing that I could respawn but that isn't the game. If people were reporting that they were being glitched into geometry constantly your suggestion may be relevant but that is not the case. Right now all it would do if implemented was give people a reason to respawn again and again until they spawned in the spot they like.

Ok, at first I was taking this "it's always dark wahhhh wahhhh" crowd lightly but now I'm getting pissed. If you want to play some easy game DO NOT BUY DAYZ. This game is supposed to be hard. That's what makes it great. It's this crowd that ruined the mod an I'm afraid their whiny asses are already starting to be heard in standalone. Please, it's a day night cycle. Playing at night in my opinion is a DayZ right of passage. You will never truly understand how amazing this game is until you've struggled in the dark.

Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
Dr. Goner replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
It being dark is no reason to discourage someone from buying the alpha. It's DayZ, it's supposed to be hard. I really hope the team sticks to the true original vision of what DayZ should be. Right now, I think the standalone is spot on. It's HARD and you pay for your mistakes. If you want some 24 hour daylight bullshit, you're barking up the wrong tree. I've played it for nearly 30 hours this week and yes I have a full time job. It's totally worth buying right now. -
You should at least have to have a knife or rope in your inventory to commit suicide.

Am i the only one with no performance issues?
Dr. Goner replied to DMstratz's topic in General Discussion
Any idea what this is due to? It's also the only performance issue I'm having. It reminds me of the small hiccup you would get in the mod when the zeds and loot spawned as you entered an area. -
It took me seven cans of food. Food seems to be similar to water in that it takes a LOT to top it off but maintaining it after that point is fairly easy. Also, Mind Killer's explanation matches my experience exactly.

I'm doing alright! Most of it is pristine and I have a back full full of containers. Each one filled with medical gear or ammo.

Is SLI not working or something? I haven't checked. I currently have two GTX 760s running in SLI. I remember reading something briefly about SLI not being supported. Is this true?

Here's a strange thing: I was attacked by a zombie. Bandaged wound, applied alcohol tincture. Character registered as "sick" for a while and then it went away, yay! I kept character full of food but screen color has remained slightly muted. So, I decided to try and change my bandages and apply the alcohol tincture again to improve characters health. I found some antibiotics and thought I would take some at the same time as applying the new bandage. I'm almost positive that when I applied the alcohol tincture, my character immediately registered as "sick" again. I took antibiotics and he's remained "sick" for a few minutes. Can I report this as a bug? Also, how long to the antibiotics take to kick in. On another note, it would be super sweet if I could see my bandages as applied to my body. It would give the character customization another level. Like whoa! That dudes been through hell and back. Anyway, thanks for any feedback you can offer.

I agree with this 100%. I've made it to NW airfield and the trip was F'n awesome! I had to explore every little building along the way. When I got there, it's set up really sweet, but there is a lot of military grade gear. I don't think there needs to be more loot at all. I have yet to find a map, but when I found my compass I was STOKED. I love that feeling of finding an item that is rare. That's the game for me honestly. I should note that after sticking around the airfield and being greedy, I was shot in the back by another player. Gotta get in and get out boys, especially if your lone wolfing it. I absolutely love the game so far. It has given me those initial feelings that I had when I first played the mod only way better. I love the fact that the entire map is truly a resource. Keep up the great work. I cannot wait to see where it goes over the course of the next year.

Night time is so great. I'm geared to the max because everyone is scared to play at night. I love it. Got me a head torch.
-
It's strange. I used to play the mod almost exclusively in 3rd person, but for some reason, I like first person better in standalone thus far. Also, I love the fact that loot is rare and night time is for real. I'm having a hell of a time so far.
-
Actually it's not that easy to find stuff. I just got lucky by running randomly into the woods. It was bitter sweet. I had a nice gun and a few items but for the life of me I could not find food and drink. Pretty bad ass. I was searching like hell for food.
-
It is fun as hell. I've been eating rotten fruit and drinking out of stagnant ponds. My character seems fine so far. I know this will catch up with me eventually. But, I can't find any food.

First player encounter. I see player. He backs away quietly. I follow him screaming, "Do you have a can opener?" I continue to follow him. I don't think he knew how direct chat works. He turns, we stare at each other. I have a mosin in my hand. He pulls out a gun and shoots me like seven times. Damn it. I really needed a can opener.
