    Looking for NVG..

Also, AFAIK, as of 1.7.6.1 you can get them only at Heli Crash Sites. So the barracks are irrelevant.

    That moment when..

If they shoot everyone they see they ought to have very, very low humanity. Kill them and regain whatever you lost, FOR JUSTICE! :D

    FPS issues on G55VW laptop.

I messed around with alot of settings. Apparently I used a memory allocator that was just not the right decision. I removed it, and I can now play with textures, object level, terrain, and shadows all on high. So for the next laptop gamer who comes here, indeed, don't listen to those who say this game does not run in laptops. It's quite beautiful.
  4. Hi guys, Having some FPS issues and I hope someone could help me settings this up. I get mostly 30-40 FPS when everything is on low, and it drops to 15-20+ something in cities. Now yes, it is playable, but after what I did I seriously hope I can squeeze *SOME* more performance. Also, people with the same machine as mine reported in this forum that they run this game on high settings smoothly. I'm running a G55VW laptop with the following specs: - i7-3610QM Processor @ 2.3-3.3 GHz - 24 GB DDR3 1600 MHz - nVIDIA GTX 660M 2 GB GDDR5 - 128 GB SanDisk SSD + 750 GB HDD I followed many guides to set this game to work. - I put pretty much all the necessary PBOs on a RAMDisk and symlinked them correctly. - Set every setting to very low, low, normal, mixed everything up.. currently most settings are on normal. Disabled shadows, antialiasing, anisotropic filtering, PPAA, post processing. - Did all the .cfg tweaks like changing GPU_MaxFramesAhead and GPU_DetectedFramesAhead to 1, setting the files to read only etc... - Put the correct launch options in DayZ Commander and Steam itself, to use the maximum VRAM available and 4 cores / 8 threads. - Overclocked the 660M to the max supported by its stock bios (+135 MHz). I'm kind of fed up tweaking it already, but the thing that bothers me most is that people say the game is "CPU intensive". I fired up "Intel Extreme Tuning Utility" to try and up the reference clock by a bit, to see if it makes a difference, but ended up using this piece of software to take a look at how DayZ rapes my CPU. Well, it never uses more than 2 cores @ CPU utilization of 25% maximum. I don't mind the cores, but the utilization is a joke. How is it possible? Am I missing something here? Is this Windows 8's fault, and I should revert to Windows 7 (I really doubt it)? How can I make it actually USE my CPU :/

    An intense DayZ session

Yeah, it was, and sure thing :D I started recording my sessions a few days ago. Unfortunately since in the beginning I didn't imagine my friends would join, I didn't record that one. ):
  6. My friend held W instead of Q when piloting a chopper. We made some nice fireworks.
  7. Hey guys, Played some DayZ on the AWA private hive today and wanted to share what happened. I warn you, it's going to be long and I'm going to be as thorough as I can, because I REALLY enjoyed that session! After my last session on AWA my character ended up being north of Cherno, had no gun whatsoever, only a can of pasta, and a water bottle inside an Assault backpack. I decided to play a bit solo and checked some barns near Cherno, but unfortunately no loot spawned, Without a map, compass or any of the essentials (matches, hatchet, knife etc.) I headed up north to explore the woods, using the DayZDB map to recognize where I am. As I entered villages/towns, I only found a Crossbow with 1 bolt, making me feel really unlucky. I made my way up to Novy Sobor when my drink gauge began flashing and I realized I had to enter the city to fill my bottle up. I sneaked on a hill nearby and had a look on the city, when I take notice of zombies inside the city definitely not being spawned by me. I hesitated but ultimately decided to go for it since I would die of thirst anyway. Although I heard some Makarov and Enfield shots, I kept my calm and got into the Church, where I finally felt a bit safer after finding a Lee Enfield inside. Now that I was done fixing my drink gauge, I made a dash to the north, escaping Novy Sobor without a scratch on me. Seeing as I didn't even have a real 'goal' for my journey, I looted as many Deer Stands as I could. At that point my friend logged into the server. He was in Krasnostav, a few kilometers north of me. We decided to run to each other and meet up eventually. One of the Deer Stands had an AKM, and as I was picking it up near Dubrovka, I heard an SUV on the road near it. I couldn't see it because of the woods, but I could tell it was going north. About a minute or two after, my friend sees the SUV, driven by a ghillie suit guy, and decides to take a shot at him before being shot, not knowing if he was friendly or a bandit. He decided not to loot the body, and went into the vehicle. That very second, a guy began spamming the SUV with stanag rounds, damaging some of the vehicle parts but not even scratching my friend, and he comes to pick me up. Good thing the SUV drives REALLY fast both off-road and on-road. We drive north with no real aim when we spot, unbelievably, a totally fixed and semi-fueled (1/4) Huey, all green and ready to go. We hide the SUV and take the chopper to a ride around the northern part of Chernarus. After a few minutes we realized we had to land somewhere to refuel. Landing at west of Zelenogorsk, Pustoshka, Vybor, Lopatino and Orlovets didn't work well for us, as people kept shooting at us with stanag rounds, DMRs and whatnot -- mind you, that was AWA, the number of players was around 60! I told my friend we should try our luck at the North East Airfield, and after inspecting it from above, it seemed safe. My friend landed the chopper and I dashed to the fuel tank to refuel some Jerrycans. Luckily enough, and at that point we didn't realize how lucky that was, a zombie hit my friend inside the chopper thanks to the latest update. He began bleeding, so he went out of the chopper as well, turning its engine off as a result. I hear something in the back and as I turn around my jaw completely dropped in fear as I saw another Huey flying directly towards us, probably wanting to refuel as well. Now, my guess is that the Huey operators did not shoot at us because they thought I was alone out there, fueling my own chopper hence why it was turned off. It was a great opportunity for them to get another Huey, they thought. I yell to my friend to get into the chopper as soon as possible and take off. As we did it, the other Huey, of course, began shooting at us. I was at the gunner seat and returned fire as my friend tried some evasive maneuvers. The gunner of the other chopper managed to hit me a time or two, making me bleed with about 3000 blood left, but I manage to shoot down their rotor and the other Huey dives into the ground, making some nice fireworks and a very satisfying explosion :D. The other guys say they couldn't believe what a lucky shot that was. Yeah right. We decide to go hide the Huey, and my friend picked a very nice spot to do it, however the terrain was too sloppy and the heli began sliding down a hill. Trying to save it, he jumped into the pilot seat and tried to take off. Some bug occurred and the heli was stuck to the ground, gaining speed but not altitude. Out of instinct he ejects and gets killed while the chopper exploded into oblivion :(. I run back to the SUV, drive it to my friends' body, put his stuff inside the vehicle and drive to pick him up at Kamenka. To push our 'luck' even more, we then headed off to the North West Airfield, the infamous capital of Chernarus and the final destination for many survivors. :D Someone in the side channel mentioned stealing a car at the NWAF but after a few circles on the airstrip, we realize it's rather safe and he drops me off at the South barracks, and I begin to loot. I end up finding an M24 with 2 mags and my favorite side-arm besides the M9 SD, the PDW. My friend takes the sniper and I take the side-arm. After the successful loot we picked up another friend of ours at the NEAF, and wanted to investigate the hills overlooking the airfield, so we drove around when I heard the sound of Makarov bullets and some sniper weapon. We drive around the hill, trying to catch any kind of movement there to no avail. But somewhere on that hill, I notice a Pickup truck hidden behind 2 pine trees. One friend stayed in the car, the other one went out with me to cover me as I investigate the car. I find some SVD rounds making me suspect it was the vehicle of the sniper on the hill. Then I realize that I hear flies VERY VERY close to me, I immediately prone and to my left, I see a blown up UAZ with the body next to it. I roll over, hoping no one sees me, and check the loot. British Assault backpack, blood bags, PDW mags, food, drinks, and to top it all, a DMR with 2 mags. :D We get away from the NEAF to finish our adventures for the day, and honestly that was one of the most amazing chain of events I had on a server like AWA. I am also excited since I know that on my next session I am going to get my well deserved Hero skin. :] Thank you all for reading, hoped you enjoyed it as I enjoyed writing it! As a bonus I added a nice desync screenshot that I had to take. xD TL;DR: Survived alone. Heli fight. NWAF & NEAF trips. Vehicles. Epic loot. Hero skin next time. :D
