  1. The way I see it, some people play DayZ just for the thrill of the kill- they are interested in the combat and not much else. This is probably why so many private hives spawn you with a weapon/ increase vehicle frequency/ etc., because that lets people get into what I see as the meat and potatoes of the game mechanics: realistic combat. Yes, the element of paranoia and fear that the zeds bring early game is nice, and I enjoy banding together with survivors, but in a game that places so much more emphasis on noncombative actions like scavenging as compared to say Battlefield or Call of Duty the real satisfaction comes from killing (and getting killed by) other players. In ArmA II, there are very realistic ballistics, weather effects that affect the player, realistic injuries like broken bones and bleeding, a procedural loot system, large open worlds, persistent characters, etc. almost all of which is lauded by the community as that which makes DayZ great. However, the fact that one or two bullets from most guns kills (and the weakest guns still only take four or five) is often lamented especially with relation to sniping. Sniping is not without its perks. It is a quick, efficient relatively easy way to kill someone without having to worry about messy engagements. It rewards you steeply for landing a hit and punishes you heavily for missing. There are many players who appreciate the high-risk high-reward mechanics of sniping, and that is why they do it. But is taking out an unarmed or uninterested player who literally does nothing to hurt you or notice your presence unethical? Yes. However, DayZ is a game that seems to bring out a large gray area in its players in the form of banditry. In my eyes, it is no more unfair to snipe somebody than to shoot them point-blank and loot their corpse. It does however seem unfair from the perspective of the victim as they have apparently been struck down by God himself. So, in summation sniping is not a bad thing, nor is banditry. You're always going to get bandits and those who desire some quick adrenaline and those who desire a more realistic survival experience are always going to come into conflict with bandits, regardless of anything the devs really do. TL;DR: Bandits will be bandits

    what weapons to use

M14 is probably the most versatile sniper- red dot scope, and enough power to one-hit on headshot or at least break their legs. Crossbow has novelty value, but is hard to aim and is best for hunting animals. M1911 or Revolver are the best pistols, they can 1-hit players with a headshot. I dislike almost all of the assault rifles excepting M4A1 and M16 variants. The AKs just seem too spammy and inaccurate. Winchester or Enfield are the best starting primaries until you find military gear.

    Rules of Engagment

Rules of Engagement: 1. KOS anybody with a bandit skin. I can't trust them and besides, this cuts down on the competition. 2. KOS anyone who doesn't respond to "Friendly?" 3. KOS friendlies who are acting sketchy. 4. I tend to leave heroes alone, but if I see a hero skin trying to kill someone, I will shoot to kill 5. If you are hurt and I 'm low on meds, I'll just put you down with a pistol shot. 6. If I do have meds, I'll patch you up and maybe give you some gear if you sorely need it. 7. If you're unarmed you can't hurt me, so why should I kill you? 8. If you listen to what I say, I generally won't kill you and might leave you with a bit of loot. 9. Snipers get a STANAG to the back of the head, no exceptions.
  4. Oops! just realized I may have accidentally declined the Skype contact request. My apologies. Send it again and I'll be sure to accept it this time.
  5. Name: Caboose Age: 15 Skype: Charismaticerik Steam: Charismatic Gamertag: None Why do you want to join?: Browsing around this subforum, I was very struck by how mature and organized this group seemed compared to others. I am also trying to find a group so I can get my bearings on DayZ and learn how to play better. What games do you have?: DayZ (duh), Terraria, Minecraft, Borderlands,Tribes:Ascend, Team Fortress 2, Starcraft II Country of Residence: USA Trades: Soldier, Scavenger, Spotter, Negotiator, maybe Sniper later on down the line once I get a grip on how sniping works. (I just picked the top 5 i liked, you can give me any role you want- except pilot.)

    Introduce yourselves

I'm MikeJCaboose or Michael J Caboose in game. I haven't actually played any DayZ, but I intend to start as soon as I can (as I am currently suffering from issues with my steam install of Arma 2 CO). I was always interested by the concept and execution of DayZ and I am looking forward to finally getting to play it.
