I take your brand labels and substitute my own!
Zachstar replied to Dancing.Russian.Man's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A few notes folks. #1 If you use a template make SURE that it is under either an appropriate Creative Commons License or Public Domain. Otherwise Rocket can't use it because DayZ SA is a commercial product. #2 Just posting an image is not enough. If you hope that rocket and BI can make use of your idea you have to indicate your work is open to be used as such. By far the best way to do this in my opinion is by realesing your work under a Creative Commons Share alike License. Quoting myself from the other topic. If you do not know what Creative Commons is http://creativecommons.org/about The License I believe is best is this one http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ -
No Pepsi, Coca-Cola or Heinz in standalone
Zachstar replied to SmashT's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ah that is right Green Mountain is a brand already. Nope you will want to avoid that altogether -
No Pepsi, Coca-Cola or Heinz in standalone
Zachstar replied to SmashT's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Except in that situation they went and made an offer to the movie studio first. If DayZ sees a benefit but they don't see much they will demand payment for use of their brand. It's pointless Especially with the creative talent out there. -
No Pepsi, Coca-Cola or Heinz in standalone
Zachstar replied to SmashT's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes and Creative Commons not only allows this but their designs can be used in other projects meaning there is an opportunity here for someone to get quite internet fame. Absolutely no reason to waste precious development funds on Pepsi or such. Oh btw for those who are confused at what Creative Commons is. http://creativecommons.org/about I would personally use this one http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ -
DayZ Standalone . Test Period .

Sounds like they are dealing with an issue or two. Atleast now there is communication. -
No Pepsi, Coca-Cola or Heinz in standalone
Zachstar replied to SmashT's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is an absolutely PERFECT opportunity for those in the community with decent skillz and creativity to create some creative commons based ideas for the team to consider. I see absolutely NO reason to try to continue to convince companies that are so rude as to not even respond to allow their products to be featured when there is so much creative commons potential out there. If that name is not trademarked or used in another form of media then I feel it is a great idea! -
DayZ SA: One Key One Character
Zachstar replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not a good thing for several reasons. #1 Those that stream would be absolutely ruined by this. #2 It puts an unfair disadvantage for players who want to explore different aspects of the game at first. #3 Rich people will just buy a new copy to get around it. NOT how you want to make sales as it generates controversy. DayZ is not EVE Online. -
DayZ Standalone NEWS - RELEASE BEFORE APRIL - 1/20/13 UPDATE - Screenshots
Zachstar replied to Pancake Jackson's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
6 months is fine. Assuming development at a decent rate is actually taking place. However it completely breaks the minecraft model this game is supposed to be. Considering they seem to be free on mentioning future features they like (So the fear of WarZ copying them seems to have passed and no longer an excuse) -
v175 beta: meat issues [solved] [old]
Zachstar replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would not worry about it. If these devs want to waste their time making changes that few servers will use because players will prefer previous builds and mods let them! -
DayZ Standalone NEWS - RELEASE BEFORE APRIL - 1/20/13 UPDATE - Screenshots
Zachstar replied to Pancake Jackson's topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
April would be quite disappointing. I can understand a month or two considering the WarZ fiasco but 3+ behind schedule? In my opinion IF that is the case the delay should have been announced before the holidays. Especially as we hear next to nothing about development on the twitters anymore. (Maybe rocket should apply to work on Spacestation 13 and Kerbal Space Program) -
v175 beta: meat issues [solved] [old]
Zachstar replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Again I do not believe it will matter much after standalone. If people really want the community build to make absolutely no sence gameplay wise to be "Hardcore mode" and "Realistic" They might find such servers to be of lower population than they hope and many reverting to earlier builds before SA moves most of that population out altogether. Yes eating a whole cow in one go for full health is kind of silly realism wise. However the solution to that is make the cow rare. And worth exploring for. Same with bloodbags which do not need to be nerfed in quality in my view. Anything else will just lead to more mass restarting. -
Are you sure you just don't suck at finding and engaging enemies? Those are extremely high numbers without evidence. I do not deny that it is extremely bad. Yet those numbers are just silly in my opinion.

So what are your plans for Standalone
Zachstar replied to soap167's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As for what I plan to do in SA. Well, If it is indeed 12 months before it is considered stable public I will just have random fun in the versions prior to that and expect plenty of changes to any playstyle I attempt to stick to. So I want to try everything. Starting off as a lone friendly survivor for some days before trying for a small group. Then large. -
No it isn't. Having a HUGE effect is not the same as removing it. Hacks will never completely vanish but compared to today the security changes WILL have a huge effect. For most players just having most of the item spawning and teleporting removed will be a huge reason to go SA. If you want to stay away because BI does not have the reources to prevent all types of hacks that is your deal.
-
Everything 1k is indeed a huge advantage. And does need to be addressed eventually. However, again compared to spawning items and teleporting today they are minor. Just being realistic here.
-
Other vunerabilities can be addressed in time. It just needs to be said again and again for those who are worried about major hacks for SA. VAC and Sever model are going to have a HUGE effect on hacking. A cheating idiot who uses a cheat on SA to know if a crashed chopper 1000M away has NVGs or not is frankly minor compared to teleporting and spawn hacks. Yes those give cheating idiots a serious advantage sadly but NOTHING in comparason to today.
-
object location hacks easilly defeated by not having spawned items sent to client until within visual detection range (Perhaps 500M-1000M or so) Wall hacks not nearly as effective in a server model assuming they can get by VAC.
-
They should put a train in the game
Zachstar replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wrong game. That is Project Zomboid :P -
NO game NO system is 100 percent hack free. What you want is the best solution for a game that can't have an epic anti-cheat staff. VAC + Steam + Serverside is one of the best automated systems out there for preventing hacks. No it will not be on the level of WoW or EVE or any other super large MMO yet it will be FAR FAR FAR better than what is happeneing today.
-
There are those that find gratification in using any unfair cheat to ruin the game for another. That sadly will likely never change. So we can only hope that changes to server side, VAC, Steam, and other measures make it so expensive for them that there is less incentive to try again. Sadly this means they will focus on those that are streaming. So it will be nessessary for steamers to again hide what server and names they are using which of course means far fewer runs with the fans. However VAC dosent have to be perfect to be the best. There will be a reduction in my opinion and a big one.

Will the StandAlone game have an inbuilt editor?
Zachstar replied to 42StepBack's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To be honest DayZ is not the best for machinima. #1 Is the zombie behavior. I am sure it will improve with SA but never enough for storytelling in my opinion. Likely want to wait for "The Dead Linger" to start looking good for that kind of work. Or for somthing sooner perhaps Project Zomboid. And don't forget about "No More Room in Hell" yet that is not about any kind of open world. -
So what are your plans for Standalone
Zachstar replied to soap167's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The issue with your reply is you are just assuming SA will be riddled with hacks within a few weeks. Despite the MASSIVE changes to make hackers life hell. As for the unorganized part. I watched several youtube videos of coordinated ambushes at various points (Airfields) just today. SA will never get to the point of say Arma II Domination. (Too bad Warfare is far too server CPU Intensive as you can have some really epic fights with the AI) It isn't all about losers camping the spawn zones. -
You mean the average CoD player that has absolutely ZERO idea how VAC works and only notices that it does not instant ban hackers? And what would they rather have? Battleeye? LOLzors! VAC is the best. Otherwise rocket would not face the controversy that normally happenens when becoming a steam exclusive. The easy updates and statistics are handy but nowhere near as game changing as VAC.
-
VAC dosen't have to be perfect (Which is impossible even for corperate anti-hacking systems as evidenced by high profile hacks over the years) to be the absolute best in automated anti-cheating for games. Many peoples claims of it not stopping cheating are missing the fact that it does not instant ban. There is a completely random time after detection and the ban itself so that hackers can't easilly find out what hack tripped it. Even with the best. You will still likely run into atleast one cheat in the future. And yes that could mean you lose all your ingame stuff you worked so hard to get. The key is that hacking will be VASTLY reduced. Which is the victory the game needs to thrive in the future.

v175 beta: meat issues [solved] [old]
Zachstar replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be honest I do not like these changes under the guise of making the game "Harder" It really sounds like for many players it won't be worth it to do much after a certain amount of damage. If you have basically forced players with healing items to prefer to restart that is frankly not helpful. The idea should be that there is a point to exploring and finding stuff. Not that it will really matter after Standalone anyway.
