    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

I personally doubt they would block timezone offset. Tho with the new lighting engine being backported from ARMA III something tells me that night play is going to get ALOT better in SA.

    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

The way the mod has changed (And I agree with you that they are going nuts forcing their "HARDCORZ MODEZ" crap into new builds) obviously has nothing to do with SA. People are worried they won't see their DayZ2017 nor Tavi or such and I don't think that will be the case for long considering that the last mode rocket played according to his twitter was 2017

Hopefully SA will prevent enough hacking that playing on high population servers will be enjoyable for you again.

    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

Do you know any other game in the same situation as DayZ that allows modding? MMOs? Nope unless you actually consider UI mods counting. FPS games? Most don't involve a hacker being about to ruin hours/days worth of work. The fact that DayZ is an ARMA mod does not matter. ARMA is about Warfare and Domination not zombies. Security was not the issue it is now.

    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

Again there is no evidence to say all modding will die. My guess again is that they will provide tools to make stuff that can be submitted for use (Downloaded to client via steam) Yet to be frank. Look at the mess we have now even without the hacking. Two major connect programs. Two versions of tavi different versions of the base mod on the servers. For the average player it is an utter and complete confusing MESS. Don't forget also the benefit gained from the backported lighting from Arma III, the modular inventory and weapon system, and the systems from Take on Helicopters.
  6. Not butthurt at all mzly. I know darn well that once SA is out it wont matter anyway. Just promise me you wont cry when the mod servers with the "EPIC HARDZ MODEZ" version empty out after SA is out.

    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

The_Man You say no disrespect but that is exactly what you are doing to him. Hacking is killing DayZ PERIOD. Changes that make hacking harder and more costly are FAR above on the priority list than modding. Having basic quality requirements (Don't rip crap from other games and call it a map) And standardization (Fed in through Steam instead of requiring a program like Six Updater) Won't kill modding. My guess is that the vast amount of extra features being backported from Arma III and Take On Helicopters will actually make things far better for them. They just might have to wait a bit for SA to mature through testing before they can be given the tools to do so. And my guess might be completely off. He may decide to perma-block mods (Which would be unfortunate but understandable) or they may actually get security to a point where they can allow some basic mods to be installed outside of steam. Saying he is turning his back on the modding community is utter and complete crap.

    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

Private Hives are mostly in response to the amount of hacking on public servers which much of that owes to the open nature of Arma II. And the past decade of BIS games were not DayZ. The biggest mode before DayZ was Warfare. There is no evidence that rocket would stop a mode such as DayZ 2017 or tavi. They just might have to be checked out first and hosted on the Steam servers that feed DayZ SA to start with. In the end. DayZ is not Arma II or Operation Flashpoint. It is a massively open game that is attractive to hackers. These changes are necessary regardless. And if you absolutely must have your map with ripped HL2 weapons or so just stay with the mod.

    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

There is no evidence to say it will be better. The open nature of Arma II says teh opposite actually. Standardization and Quality control means good works of the community have a far better chance of being used. Look at tavi. Two different versions with the same @ and a boatload of confusion. So yes maybe there wont be maps with tons of ripped models and other copyrighted works. That just makes even more incentive for people to make creative commons licensed works for the community to use.
  10. For whom? you? Do you honestly believe that the players leaving DayZ over time give a rats butt about how you feel nerfing their game if they don't accept YOUR playstyle is a good thing?

    SA DayZ: No Modifications? [POLL]

Open source? Hell no. The whole point is to make things harder on hackers not easier. For mods. My opinion is eventually there should be a version that is made just for developing maps and models and such and completed works can be submitted for approval and hosting so that there is complete standardization and quality control.
  12. Thankfully Rocket is less likely to implement such silly changes in my opinion for SA. Forcing players into the cities? That is like those calling for local to be removed in EVE online. Don't snipers and PKers in cities have enough fun abusing bambis? Yet like I said. If y'all want these "EPIC HARD MODE FORCE MAH PLAYSTYLE ON YOUZ" Changes in mod have at it! Just don't cry when you have to start playing what you consider "Easy Mode SA" when you find all the mod version servers empty.

I take your brand labels and substitute my own!

Sadly that name is likely trademarked by now.
  14. They would ask for money for Trademark use. Trust me they most likely don't care that they won't appear in DayZ. Also keep in mind that due to the game involving shooting other survivors and being a "bad guy" they likely wont accept in the first place due to potential controversy. Not to mention any prior exclusive deals they may have in place.
  15. Not really a big deal folks. You would have better luck asking those perhaps on deviantart to make some creative commons based designs that rocket could consider if he decides to go that route.

What if we removed the crosshair?

Like others have said. At the very least it is worth a try for the early versions. The removal of another tool for hackers at the start is just worth it. You can always add it back to SA later if needed. Maybe with extra time to add security measures.

    Don't you mean "Hindz Beanz" ? B)

What if we removed the crosshair?

This is just my opinion but those benefits are what push me to the "Remove it" side. Yes it will make things harder for newer players. However, I think the frustration of running into a hacker will cause them to leave DayZ much faster. Just please allow any weapon that can be so made to be sight adjusted. It is simply worth it to remove another tool for hackers. If things are getting too hard from the change add a single player "Range" map in Single Player that has a simple bolt action and a pistol and a bunch of stuff explaining the basics of estimating range and lead.

    day z standalone vs armaII

This is just my opinion but... Arma II MP is more co-op oriented in my opinion. It simply lacks the security needed to deter the onslaught of hackers in game modes that allow you to ruin hours of others work. Before DayZ I believe Domination was the most popular mode. Warfare pretty much died when idiots rushed to the first aircraft build and destroyed the other base before even bothering to take more than a few towns.
  20. To be honest you might want to wait for Standalone to mature some. It will never stop hacking. However it is going to make it far far far far harder to do so and thus overall will be a better experience. Plus the new map and inventory system.

    Survivor GameZ II

I agree. A great idea. Yet it needs serious work. Maybe rocket can add some features to SA to help this perhaps? And rules and events need to be enforced

DayZ SA: One Key One Character

This. And the fact that it completely screws over streamers who generate quite a bit of interest and potential sales of DayZ. I know people hate the idea that a Streamer may get a check for pizza money from the ads he or she plays but the flip side is increased interest in DayZ and thus sales which means more and longer development which means a better game for everyone. The viewers and streamers for DayZ have seriously fallen off as they give up from constant hacking and stream sniping. And to be frank. Some here want to force what you think should be the "right" standard of play on the playerbase and I fell that they will not like the result of their changes as people use older versions or simply find other games to play.
  23. Do you honestly want them to waste time and development funds just to keep a label that people view at most a few seconds in game? Especially with the creative talent in the community that can create creative commons works they could use?
  24. Zachstar

I take your brand labels and substitute my own!

That is some GREAT work there! I especially love "Pepski" And would personally love that in SA except in my opinion (I don't know how close you can get before infringement is claimed) it might be too close to the Pepsi trademark. And again I don't know if parody can be claimed when everything else in DayZ. Are those rendered models? If you did not use anyone else's work is there any chance you could make those Creative Commons?
