Why I generally avoid servers at night...
Capt Murphy replied to Kashus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is what I don't get. I joined one server once, where I could somewhat see at night. Every other server I join is literally absolute pitch black. Can't see my character, lucky if I can see the night sky at all. I tried the gamma/brightness/hdr thing a couple times since I was sick of trying to find a decent ping server with daylight, but it didn't help at all. I've heard numerous people say the game is playable at night without adjusting settings, I don't see how this is possible? Is night just showing up differently for people? -

I'd rather server owners continue to decide the view settings, that we get some options. I don't mind first person, but it feels extraordinarily clunky in some situations and starts to give me a headache if I want to play for a long session. Definitely prefer 3DP for my cross-country trekking. (And yes I have headbobbing and all that turned to minimum/off) -
I installed it a week or two ago and got nothing like what you guys said. (I didn't like it, prefer to manual install instead) Sounds like you got into a bad link somewhere. Got to watch those free filehosts damn close, they will certainly screw you if you don't watch it. Does Worrom's updater still work well? Probably won't do beta patches though.

Hotfix Build 1.7.1.5 Rolling Update
Capt Murphy replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Thoughts on this? I can easily do this. HOWEVER. There may be a small performance impact from it. EDIT: Actually' date=' it would keep spamming your position. Would have a major performance impact. I could probably write something on this later. But for now, might not be possible. [/quote'] If you could make to where maybe you make a 1-2 noise they investigate and 3+ they go full agro that would be cool. When you get the performance worked out of course. -
Tents are NOT crashed helicopters
Capt Murphy replied to ArrThePirate's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've come across numerous tents where I just take what I want, leave behind my old junk, and the rest of the tent supplies. No reason to be a complete douchebag about it. Assholes doing shit for no reason, no calculated decisions, etc. Makes this game so much worse. -
Hotfix Build 1.7.1.1 Rolling Update
Capt Murphy replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I scoured all of Berezino, looped all the way to Zeleno, hit 3-4 small towns and 5 or 6 farms, no canned food, soda, or matches. -
WTF is happening to the server community.
Capt Murphy replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh don't be modest. We know your words are scripture and any perceived weaknesses are merely a ploy to deceive us of your Grand Design. Really though, adding some group stuff sounds awesome and will hopefully dent some of this deathmatch bullshit going on. Hopefully some sort of more challenging Zombie related incidents as well. (Eventually eh?) -

Bandages don't regenerate blood. I think you may be misunderstanding something. Tell me, if you were to slash your leg open right now, lose fair(nonfatal) amount of blood, then bandage it up. Your body would never regain that lost blood unless you went to a hospital and had a blood transfusion? The best implementation would probably be to greatly reduce the amount of blood you get instantly from eating food in DayZ and just have it come over time as long as you are healthy. -

No' date=' games are too easy nowadays and this is one reason why. [/quote'] As long as your hunger and thirst levels are good, no major wounds, no sicknesses, etc. It would be more realistic to slowly heal up a bit. He's not asking to crouch behind a rock for 15 seconds and be good to go. Get attacked by a bandit/zombie horde? Spend 3 hours getting some strength back. (That would be for a light injury of course) -

Bandit skin is being removed, as it should. I'm hoping the Humanity system does its job well. What Suicide Mouse says is dead on. We need something to put some weight on the decision to kill another surviving human being. The current mentality would simply not work in a real apocalyptic scenario. Oh look, you just killed the only living person in this area that knows how to do such and such task. -
What graphical settings do you play on?
Capt Murphy replied to austendude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maxed, except AA which I've read has caused problems so I just left it "normal". Haven't check the actual numbers, but its not low enough to bother me. I've read disabling SLI would be give me better performance as well. Will probably test eventually. Seems to hand around like 30% CPU usage and 40% GPU, but my GPU's never clock up all the way. Core Clock seems to stay at around 660 instead of 1250's where most games take it. i5 [email protected] Gigabyte WF 670's SLI -

No, they just don't care. Why should they care when they can just respawn and find someone else to kill. Maybe loot their weapons and kill some more people before trying it again. "Maybe I can get 20 kills this time!!!1" -

Capt Murphy replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Everything in the game enforces one type of play or another. The current atmosphere enforces shoot first mechanics. I'm not trying to make people stop killing others, I want them to think "Is killing this person going to be worth it?" If you are a well supplied and a careful killer, it will make it harder for you, but nothing like impossible. Unless maybe you just go on a killing spree without taking a moment to think, which is the point. As well as if you are a bandit group, coping with these 'negatives' will be much easier. -

Zombie Survival. I try to treat it as if it were as real as possible. Only kill someone if I really have to. Help someone if I deem the situation safe enough and I have the supplies to do so without endangering myself. If I was dying, low on supplies, no medicine, and I spotted someone, I would feel bad about it, but I would try and kill you to save myself. If I wasn't too desperate I would try and ask for help first.

WTF is happening to the server community.
Capt Murphy replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Alright so I tried a few servers today, all of them filled with people just playing like its deathmatch. So I would like to propose a few potential gameplay additions that can help curb the desire, ease, and carelessness of these players. If you're first response to the above sentence is "carebear, He wants PVP REMOVED!!1, etc" then just fuck off. You are meaningless and everything you say is meaningless. You will get no further response. The problem I see is that there is no sense of "I'm about to shoot a person, another of the very few survivors just trying to get by." First Suggestion: Higher Zombie agro for murderers. The infected can sense the bloodlust and killer instinct and will hunt you down. Going near a town will immediately start attracting zombies towards your area. At first they will begin walking in your general direction, when within a certain distance they will scream and chase you, attracting the others in the area. The first time you kill someone isn't enough to attract additional attention. After that you starting adding agro. Time and using supplies on other Survivors can lower your agro. High enough agro and you have a chance for Zombies to find you outside of towns.(AKA might have a couple spawn near you) This will create an actual Zombie related challenge to being a dedicated killer. Second Suggestion: Zombie types. Simple enough. Some of this depends on what the engine and server limits, average persons PC will allow. Have walkers. Who can walk relatively fast, a bit slower than you can run actually. Great in numbers, lose interest when you are a bit away from the town they spawned in. Runners. These run fast enough to catch up to you and can actually attack you while you are running. Forcing you to stop and fire or try to lose them very very quickly. Lose interest if you get too far away from them. Reinforced. A little harder to take down. You had better aim for the head or risk wasting a lot of munitions. Run the same speed as you with a higher chance to break your legs when/if it catches you. Will chase you for as long as it can see you. Third Suggestion: Infection Level. No, you can't actually play as a zombie. You must respawn if it kills you. Your Infection Level rises as you play, with increases when hit by Zed. I'd expect it to rise 2-3 times slower than hunger. To lower you infection you must locate, kill, and create an anti-viral from a special Reinforced zombie. You'll need an empty syringe, possibly another item. Can receive 3 doses from a single kill, meaning groups can work together to help find one and create a stockpile. Fourth Suggestion: Break the good weapons into pieces. Maks and other handguns remain basically as they are now, Winchester's and maybe a couple others remain the same as well. You find a M14 barrel here, the stock here, etc. Somewhat rare chance to find a whole gun still. Will make it a bit harder to get powerful guns. As well as increase your risk for having one. "Hey look, that guy has a badass rifle... Should we kill him?" "Oh shit, now I have the rifle... *paranoia*" Alternatively, you find them broken and must repair them. Fifth Suggestion: Stamina. Simple enough, can't run forever. Enough to hightail it from a gun fight or town and catch your breath in the nearby forest.(You better make sure there's a forest nearby...) Sprinting drains you pretty quickly, a regular run can get you a fair distance. Sixth Suggestion: (and the one I feel less sure about) Death Timer for being a carelessness dumbass. You start killing people in a real Zombie Apocalypse, you get killed forever. In DayZ, you get a 30minutes penalty for killing 3 people within a 2 hour time frame. Increase up to 1-2 hours with more kills. Decreases as you go more time without killing. I kinda dislike this and think it would be detrimental to the longterm, but might be better than the current system. Of course these would be awesome paired with everyones ideas for group projects. As well as a penalty for people who attempt to break realism by Server Hopping and DC'ing. I would prefer the spawn points to remain the same still. Cherno and Elektro being PvP hotspots adds a certain flair to those areas that I think is needed. I think having the spawns near is enough to keep that. I'm not sure what all is possible for rocket to implement, I tried to keep them fairly simple and straight forward.
