Nefarious (DayZ)

I brought this particular subject up in another thread about DayZ not being made without the mainstream success from TWD tv show. I assumed others would concur, however, this was not the case. I feel zombies have always been a cult/niche market despite the fact that I am huge fan of the genre. What do you guys think? Would we have DayZ without The Walking Dead tv show?

This post is comical. If you are telling me zombies had mainstream appeal prior to The Walking Dead you are delusional. Zombies have always had a cult following. I'm 39 and have been into the zombie genre since you were sperm.

Knowing squat about zombies means they wouldn't have a clue about Dawn of The Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Resident Evil etc. They wouldn't know zombies need to be shot in the head. Particulars that fans of the genre would know. You are trying to make it look like I said they didn't know WHAT A ZOMBIE WAS. There is a marked difference.

There is a movie from 1930 called White Zombie starring Bela Lugosi. I'm afraid zombies have been around a long long time.......:)

Puhlease. It's nothing like asking that. I'm a huge zombie fan and am aware of their popularity within a niche market. However, TWD tv show has exploded (I don't really care for it) but now many more people are "into zombies". To ask if TWD may have influenced Dean to make a zombie survival mod is far from a stretch.

Reread the post pls. I never said they didn't know what a zombie was. Did your cap key break?

Ok. I respect that. And yes, polling my friends at work is not statistically significant but I would refer you to TV ratings for the show. You have to admit zombies have always been a niche/cult market. I shouldn't have made my statement as fact you are right, moreover, I would like to know what side others come down on. Maybe I'll start a new thread on it.

Do you intend on qualifying this? I'm not sure what's tripping you up. You don't think the massive popularity of the zombie genre now has influenced these games? I am a huge zombie flick fan. I can tell you straight up that anyone I work with (Fire Dept./ Paramedic) knew squat about zombies prior to this tv show. Many of them are big fans now. Your post has no context let alone content so I'm at a loss.

Rick's son almost ruins the show for me. His acting is atrocious. I applaud the effort to get zombies mainstream though. Without the comic and subsequent tv show explosion there would be no DayZ.

It's ok. Bad acting and numerous plot holes. PLEASE tell me why they are always telling each other to keep quiet so not to "alert the zombies." Then 5 seconds later Captain Inbred gets on his Harley and roars off????

I know this subject has been touched on here and there but I'd like a spot where this subject could be of central focus. First off, I'd like to say that I hate shooters. Find COD,Halo, BF3 etc boring and have no interest this genre. That being said, I LOVE DayZ. I'm an RPG/Strategy guy and zombie fan so I find this game very appealing. My concern, however, is whether or not this game will veer towards DayZ+ or DayZ. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe most of us are looking for a "Walking Dead" simulation (Perhaps I'm wrong). In my mind this sim would be based on the immediate and most dangerous threat of the zombies. Secondary to this would be the roving band of people clawing at the last scraps of humanity. This is why, I believe, that the DayZ+ mod (albeit flawed) is the true template for a Walking Dead sim. I intend for this not so much to be a discussion on the SA but about how much should be sim and how much should be shooter. Thoughts? I

Better explained than I ever could. Don't get me wrong, I like the "jerk" element of PVP but I want to primarily be worried about zombies FIRST a la the zombie flicks while simultaneously having to deal with the PVP.

Yes, I agree. In none of the classic movies or tv shows are people treating the zombies as a nuisance. If that's the case then it is simply a PVP game and there are far better choices out there than Dayz. I'm not worried, however, as I feel Rocket's vision for this game is the same is mine. Here's to hoping he gets it done.

Ben Franklin is a hero of mine. He was an incredibly tolerant man and a master negotiator. He would never have talked to people like this. You sir, have pulled him from his slumber and made him your avatar only to besmirch his good zombie name?!! FOR SHAME!

I prefer 1st person as well. Seeing over walls removes a real tactical element. Same debate in racing games. Always noobs wantin' to drive from 3rd person. Really takes the sim out of it.

That would be cool to see them coming as a giant horde like in the movies.

Yes I have seen season 3. I believe the script has focused on the human danger more, however, I would still argue that it is the zombies that have everyone wedged into these corners. My fear is that Dayz becomes not about survival but yet another shooter. It looks good thus far.

I don't know about you guys but as long as Rocket keeps talking about what they are working on I can wait as long as need be. It's not like we don't have something to mess around with whilst we wait.....

Well said. There's an actual game for people to tide them over. It's bizarre the complaints. Anyone want to place bets that when SA comes out they growl that "it's too much like the mod."

A little OT but I'll never forget my first online kill was playing Everquest. My little gnome magician hiding up and the woods while my earth elemental rooted and pounded on this poor elf. What a rush! :)
