    Why always Russia

I would love a map that has some more varied terrain, slopes you simply cannot walk up. Swedish countryside mixed with Norwegian mountains. Swamps, thick forests and lots of rocks for cover. Tall grass and wheat fields that you can run through etc. With some rather large towns and two cities with more enterable buildings. Much like Cherno and Elektro but with more civilian buildings and less industrial ones. I can agree to some extent with the OP, Chernarus is simply too smooth and flat to my liking and would like to have more granularity overall. But for the love of any holy thing... NOT NEW YORK or any other American super city/urban place. That is the epitome of BORING.

    DayZ Standalone Discussion

You can play PC games on the "big screen" too. A TV is just a monitor with a different interface. It has a resolution (most common to date being 1920x1080, namely Full HD) and usually is connected through a HDMI connection to various devices, the PC has a lot of different connections. Most common one being DVI-D but in close second has HDMI or utilizes DVI-D -> HDMI adapters to connect with HDMI devices or vice versa. And as with everything else when it comes to PC's, they have support for ALL controllers, be it XBOX of PS3 controllers and their predecessors. They all share the same interface these days, USB or Universal Serial Bus. As does many peripheral devices share that same interface (USB) with a few variations on the device end in terms of connector size and shape to allow slim devices such as mobile phones to stay... slim! As far as income "so better games and addons can be developed" is concerned... The best games of all times where developed with small emphasis on income. One of the first all time great games ever released, Tetris, was made without a single thought of making a single dime. It's only after it became such a huge hit that people started talking about money. Minecraft was made with that same philosophy, money was not the goal in the Alpha stage. It was merely a interesting thing for Marcus "notch" Persson to make after Infiniminer was scrapped. It then grew from a past time development "fun deal" into a full time job so Notch started charging money ($10 per person) so he could focus on the game full time and still pay bills. Little did he know it would grow to be one of the most successful indie titles of all time, making him a multimillionaire in the process. The only reasons i can see to porting it to console is one of two: 1. Make money releasing to the biggest, stupidest market in gaming of all time. 2. Sharing your game with the less fortunate who only have access to a console. (Which in the case of DayZ, just isn't the case... We are talking about educational stuff here or free to play stuff really.) In any case, more money does not equal a better game. If that was to be true then Call of Duty: Modern warfare 3 would be the best game of all time. It may be one of the best selling games but it sure as hell isn't a good game. It purely lives on the merits of the earlier CoD titles and it's status symbol as one of the most popular shooters around. When you start pouring money into a project it suddenly turns direction from being a good game in it's mechanics, replayability and immersion into a quicktime stop motion game or otherwise too flashy with no real content at all. DayZ started with just Zombies, looting, vehicles and PvP and where has it taken us so far??? NOWHERE! And that is a good thing, that is what makes DayZ such a good game! There is no story, it's YOUR story. There is no plotline. There is no silly cutscenes to divide your immersion, no kill cams, no real reward besides your own personal, emotional gain. You are free to go wherever you want and do whatever you want. YOU are the game. That's why DayZ is so good. Pouring money into that would just add unnecessary fluff to the game. All we need is more sandbox and a less bug ridden game with perhaps higher fidelity visuals with less taxing on our systems. That we can get from a standard development cycle where you pay ~$20-$30 for the game. The devs will get paid WELL for their effort. They don't need to go mainstream to make DayZ SA a good game or improve on it. Money will just ruin it!

    Is Cherno based on Chernobyl?

Yes, ArmA 2 Chernarus is based on a real place and so will ArmA 3. Which will be based off the Greek island of Lemnos. A 447 km² island outside the Turkish west coast. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lemnos
  4. No player is harmless, all it takes is for them to pick up a weapon. Even as simple as a Makarov and they are a real threat to you. It's better to deal with them before they come around to whack you a minute later. It's arguable if shooting fresh spawns in Elektro/Cherno with a sniper rifle is necessary. But to me, it's target practice. The better you get at hitting moving targets, the better you get at hitting any target which can actually return fire on you. Every fresh spawn should know this in the back of their head, until they have any weapon... All they are to the rest of the players in the vicinity is target practice.

TkoH is more taxing on the rendering in some cases so the answer to the question is a yes. But on the other hand, you do get less objects to render in TkoH and one tends to up the view distance to be able to see where you are going so maybe TkoH is as taxing as ArmA 2 in that regard. In the end though, TkoH adds more post processing (which can thankfully be disabled as it bogs it down a lot) and more behind the scenes processing which, no matter how you twist and turn it, makes TkoH more taxing on the computer running it than ArmA 2. Both games are almost as optimized as they can possibly be under their current engine architecture.

    lock out

Keep it realistic or play CoD... That's all there is to it really. If the world ends there will be plenty of people who are angry, scared, mentally disturbed etc that will kill others on sight for ANY reason even if they just want to practice their shooting skills should they come under attack. There is no such thing as punishment in real life. There are consequences such as others may come looking for you and in peace times the police will try and find you to bring you to jail. But you don't automatically get a bandit skin for committing murder and you are not shut out of the game for 30 minutes to 4 hours when you are killed. You die permanently! This is a game, people want to respawn obviously but besides that, leave it open to the players to decide who they shoot and who they let live. I am sure you have passed by quite a few bandits who didn't shoot you because he didn't see the point in killing you when you have nothing at all and/or he didn't take the shot out of fear of someone else being around to kill him afterwards.
  7. Maybe you should think of the negative implications of keeping 3rd person as it currently is for a change. With 3rd person you can... Look over walls, down the sides of a building and around corners. Lie prone and still have a standing persons overview of the area. See people that are behind you where a normal person would have obstructions such as his backpack, weapon (on back) and shoulders. See outside vehicles so you don't back into something as you reverse. See directly below the helicopter as you go in for landing and have no obstructions from the cockpit. So with those things still around DayZ will never be able to progress in situations where TP completely negates the danger of scouting (poking your head out) and allows you to remain completely hidden but see anyone else that leaves their cover. To remove these issues (as has been suggested) you should not be able to see over walls, around corners, behind you etc. In other words, if you can't see it from FPV then you should not be able to see it from TP. With FPV, the size of a gun does matter as you will have a bloody big blindspot there when deployed. But with TP you completely negate that balancing factor so now Rocket may not design a bloody big gun into the game just for that reason. FoV in first person, i can agree to some extent. I am not saying 200 FoV should be allowed but 120 would be ok. It really does become a problem when everybody is using insane FoV settings to be able to see BEHIND THEIR HEAD as if they where dogs or lizards. That's the only reason there are config files. Otherwise all configs would be in some sort of database format or stored on the internet. CoD BO2 encrypted their config files because they where too lazy to change how the core engine stored it's settings. It was the least effort to do that. So why did they want to encrypt the settings file to begin with? Because they wanted everyone to play on the same settings of course. ArmA and DayZ is not like that.

    Simple "Hide Body" suggestion

And if you have an entrenching tool... Would you be able to un-hide a body?
  9. Whenever i go by the drinks section in my store i see mostly soft drinks and not so much bottled water. But then again, our tap water quality is top notch! Either way, does it matter? Ok, some more variety may not hurt but it's just hydration. I don't care if it's a coke, pepsi or water bottle (though a water bottle is much more practical)
  10. There already is a hot swap key for switching weapons. You will most likely never have more than two accessible to you in DayZ. 10 slots just makes it seem overzealous to me. And there is a much better (imho) inventory system suggestion available so i refer you to that for my reasoning behind why it's better. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/38742-suggestions-for-the-dayz-standalone-thinking-outside-of-the-limitations-of-an-arma-2-mod/ Look under the "Revised inventory system" spoiler. It's the first in the original post ideas section.
  11. Well i wouldn't mind. And you would only check if you notice a problem. Like in real life when your feet start hurting bad. You have a look and you notice a two-three inch blister filled with blood and your skin rubbed halfway off your heel. Your sock has merged with the blood and skin and you can either pull it off quickly and pull most of the skin with it or soak it in hot water and carefully work it off bit by bit. And you also notice your nails are blue and start coming off your toes. (At least that's normally what i see when i check my feet when it gets too painful to move)
  12. In all honesty you can make your own endgame. Get a helicopter, collect all your friends and fly off into the sunset (west) until you run out of fuel or whatever. You have now made it, you may now proceed in joining a different server with a different map and make a new endgame for yourself. Besides that, there is no endgame and it's intended that way to allow players to innovate one for themselves. My endgame is to play DayZ til i get bored and move on to another game.
  13. Or they can just force the game into third person and veteran so you don't have any crosshairs. No scoping and no iron sights. Let's all run around with hatchets! In fact, make it so you select a character you want to attack and your character will aim at the other for you, convert it into a top down shooter. Let's add leveling and unique gear that gives +20 mana. You can now cast a spell on another player giving them blindness or posion damage. Introduce dragons and swords and priests and druids. Let you morph into a rabbit (without a hacker doing it for you) and give you a new ability where you launch across 50 meters to bite another player in the neck. Oooh oooh oooh and make a flamethrower and add nukes. And i want tanks too, and mounts that fly and i want to paint my weapon and errh, guilds? And if i don't want PvP there should be an option to not be in PvP. You cannot be hurt by other players and you cannot hurt them. And zombies are too OP now so give me a minigun please. OBVIOUSLY I AM BEING EXTREMELY SARCASTIC AND NOTHING I WROTE APPLIES...

    A Noob Perspective

It's not personal, you can take it personally if you'd like but the fact remains you don't understand Rockets design goals. He has already said he doesn't want to punish bandits. It's not Rockets fault that ArmA is very hack friendly. Many of your suggestions you made are coming or being considered, read the proper threads. Most of your suggestion have already been suggested. Frequently... That makes you (among so many others) ill informed. That doesn't mean you can't become informed and once again, it's nothing personal. If i tell you that you are wrong that is not personal, it's a statement about your level of knowlede on these matters. Your choice of words make you come across as whiny and you assume players do things to grief you where in fact they are trying to enjoy the game the way it's designed.
  15. Oh, i forgot to mention that any system can be introduced gradually. You could start with shoes with different running speeds and protection levels and gradually implement features around that. The same with anything really, but you have to have a design goal. You work out some details so you know where you are heading and as you head there you may or may not alter the plan. And sharing your design goals (those that you are bound to work on right away) can be a very rewarding process as other players give feedback (good or bad) and come with alterations to make it better for them. Some might point out the not so obvious flaws and others will see certain pressure points of the new system, be it CPU intensive, net code heavy, lag sensitive or outright too cumbersome.
  16. ArmA 2 CO is so cheap that it would be sad not to get it. ArmA 3 is still a few months away i would think. (no real release date announced other than somewhere in 2013) The stand alone may not be far away but the stand alone will not let you play with ArmA and whenever you get bored with DayZ you should give ArmA a go and even try the ACE and ACRE mods with some people. EDIT: Forgot to mention that BIS really do deserve all the money they can get as well. If it wasn't for BIS we would not have OFP, ArmA, ArmA 2 and the upcoming ArmA 3 to save us from all the arcade games that everyone else makes. Not to mention we would not have DayZ!

    Hardcore Action Good for Longevity?

Oh yeah i guess you are right. I just don't consider DotA a mod anymore as it's a stand alone game now right? On a side note, i was thinking in first person shooter terms. But even so, Counter Strike 1.6 probably has DayZ beat still. Not sure. Either way, DayZ is a VERY popular mod.

Global Age verification system for servers

Lucky you... As for your other replies, I have been around and it's the same in most places. I think your area would be the exception to the norm then. But you seem rather angry and hateful so i will just leave you to your own thoughts.

    Identifier - bit of rag

There would only be so many colors to pick from. I would not trust such a system and as such i have to say it's a waste of time. But what do i know, i am on Teamspeak with my friends and we tell eachother where we are and what we are doing so we don't shoot each other.

    HUGE CAMP

Yes because a cheater cannot simply teleport everybody on the server to one of his death camps... --- @OP This rarely works, unless you have a bunch of real friends that cooperate well enough and know where everybody is you are sure to get some random guy doing a misfire or killing another and everybody starts shooting at everybody else. The last man standing gets to pick and chose from the gear and vehicles that survived the carnage. The dead ones will all bumrush back to the camp to loot the rest and we are back in Free for All mode.

    New player tutorial

I have never managed to launch an ATV into the air and have it explode. But then again, by common sense, i have always slowed down when i cross an obstacle. I guess the tutorial should be a single line stating "USE COMMON SENSE!" As for the glitches and inventory quirks etc. That isn't really something for a tutorial to touch on but rather about the bugs being fleshed out. In the meantime you could have a big red warning text that states there are quite a lot of bugs in the game, read the thread titled "BLAH BLAH" on the Dayz forums for information on the currently known glitches and how to avoid them. Or suffer the learning process! (On a side note, i commonly lose weapons in my coyote pack because i forget i don't have enough room... It has almost... JUST ALMOST gotten to the point where i blame myself and not the game for it)

    Motorbikes In Dayz? Plzzzzzzzzzzzz

There are variations. There is the green motorcycle and the red with yellow flames motorcycle. ;) And there are more motorcycles available in the ArmA 2 base content. I don't really see the point in adding harleys and BMW's though apart from the OP's apparent love for these brands? I mean, should we be adding high performance cars such as Lamborghini's and Porsche's too? What about a Nissan Micra? How about electric cars? Really, the vehicles in DayZ are used for transport. The make and model doesn't matter really. We have bad cars (slow offroad, easily damaged) and average cars and good cars in game already. We have the quad bike and the motorcycle, both fitting their respective roles. The old bike is also an excellent (quiet) mode of transport and the helicopter is very versatile. Though i am looking forwards to seeing a littlebird. (as it's much more nimble than the UH-1 and MI-17) EDIT: Oh by the way, i would however like to see the vehicles on road/off road speeds adjusted. As it is now, on a gravel road even the UAZ should be capable of maintaining 100 kph at level ground. Of course they might not be as controllable at high speeds but that's what you have brakes for. (Or in the case of the motorcycle, no brakes at all apparently. That could do with a fix too!)
