Looking for swedes, to create a "clan"
plrsniper replied to Bruning's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
--- OP has only made one post, i am sure he just posted and didn't follow up. If any Swede would like to play you can always shoot me a PM. We are four players and we play on dayzfinnsnes whitelistes servers in Norway. It's hacker free and the admins are active and really do care. Mostly full of players as well. We use teamspeak and we mostly make other players lives hard in the most fun way possible. That is, we don't go around farming gear all day and we don't use vehicles unless we happen to steal one off some poor sod. -
The question you need to ask yourself is why do you in your wildest imagination think people wouldn't kill each other if whatever apocalypse where to happen? Paranoia, insanity, opportunity, greed, survival (food, clothes, shelter, you name it), retaliation, quest for power... ETC ETC ad infinitum. The reason i kill people in DayZ is simple, i am bored with other shooting games where you spawn with a weapon in hand and you go pew pew against others who spawn with weapons in their hand. Death in other games doesn't have any real downsides whereas in DayZ, when you die you have to scavenge to get back on your feet. It takes a LONG time to get fully geared up vs other shooters where you start with everything you need and just go unload at everything you can until you die. Only to repeat that mindless procedure. The other thing is, zombies pose ZERO challenge in DayZ as it is now. Food is plentiful and i can survive 24/7 all year long without lifting an eyebrow. The only challenge present in DayZ is fighting other players. And no, helping other players is NOT a challenge. It's a risk and there is little to no reward in doing so apart from the satisfaction you get from helping them. I get equal or greater satisfaction actually giving them a challenge by shooting at them. At least then i know they aren't just spending 8 hours a day looking for the AS50 and all the other gear just so they can lie in wait up at NWA to pop the occasional idiot that runs up there (about one every 2 hours on average) with one bullet. People decide to become bandits because they are fed up with this carebear / farming attitude so many seem to have. What are you going to use all that gear for anyways? Why do you have a vehicle if all you intend to do is survive...? EDIT: Mind you, i can survive forever without anything but drink and food in my inventory in DayZ. I just run into a suitable town of choice, pick and choose among the food and drink and get out again. All without killing a single zombie or being hit once by Zombies. DayZ is not a survival game until you actually go fight other players.

I don't always KOS even though that is my most common action. This one time a guy was running around Zelenogorsk in the middle of the night and i asked him what he was up to. He said he was looking for car wheels and i informed him where he could find some. We ended up going together looking for wheels and we found the two he needed, fixed his car. I rode with him up north and told him where to stop, i hopped out and said "Peace out", took my own car that i had stashed there and drove off. Leaving him to carry on with his business. Not very spectacular but even though i am a cold blooded murderer most of the time i do in fact still enjoy helping people from time to time. I just wish more people would INTERACT in DayZ. Most of the time they are lonewolfing it, running at the slightest hint of other players or walking around in large groups inlands and doing nothing but farming gear and hunting smaller packs than themselves and have the tenacity to call themselves professionals. Me and my friends proudly proclaim such things as "Elektro is now ours, stay away or be killed" in hopes someone will actually make it their task to take it from us. We don't carry full gear... Yet, 2-3 of us will hold Elektro without problem because all the diehard professionals are too damn cowardly to come and take us on. If players would actually start to interact in certain ways we would see more cooperation and actual meaningful PvP than we do now. For instance, i remember this time i was slaughtering everyone in Elektro regardless of their current status and a band of seemingly random players all made it their goal to kill me. I shed a tear of joy as they didn't randomly deathmatch each other and instead all went around hunting for me. Of course i gave them a fair fight and didn't just flee with my tail between my legs, even though i had really good gear and was alone against 4-6 angry guys with all kinds of weaponry.

In ArmA 2 DayZ you have something called "Local Zombies" where the Zombie AI is running on your PC and the server is updated from your local session and re-transmits this to other clients. In the DayZ SA the zombies will be running on the server side. This will put more strain on the server end but your PC will not have to deal with simulation and that will leave some cycles for other things, such as rendering. (higher FPS) And DayZ SA will not have to deal with all the stuff ArmA 2 does that isn't needed for DayZ as others have pointed out. It will be slimmed down to only deal with DayZ related stuff and that will free up cycles both client and serverside. But then you add some of the new features present in TkoH. More graphics settings etc, these will put a higher strain on your GPU and due to the necessary cooperation between the CPU and GPU you may find that it affects your overall game performance. Mind you, with the settings i have in TkoH i get higher FPS on average than i get in ArmA 2, even though i fly with a 7.5 km view distance! Try running ArmA 2 (not DayZ, it's not going to allow you to) with a 7.5 km view distance and observe as your FPS goes down the drain.

Question.... (car and loot)
plrsniper replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I lost connection with a friend in the passenger seat. He told me that the car kept moving in the direction it was going for a few seconds and then teleported back to where i started losing connection. (similar to desync) But then when i was kicked from the game it took off again since he was in the vehicle and he had to switch seats to stop the car. As i logged back in my character was some 100 meters ahead of where i started losing connection. -
I just want to point out that while your monitor can only display 60 frames per second, you may notice a significant difference when your game is running at 100 FPS vs 60 FPS. The reason for this is because your system would have more time over to deal with control input and simulation at higher FPS. It is the sole reason most "professional" gamers opt for lower quality settings in games or extremely overcapable PC's for games such as CS 1.6 / CS:S as frame rates in the 3-400's actually gives them an advantage in the input and client to server communications. For instance, i can tell if my game is running at 100 fps vs 60 FPS by how responsive it feels. (Not to mention, microstuttering starts to go away the higher FPS you have)

Dayz standalone suggestions are just getting out of hand.
plrsniper replied to gamerman001's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
So because you don't like a suggestion because it's "too realistic" you demote yourself by calling it "Retarded". A realistic suggestion is by definition smarter than an arcade one and thus the arcade suggestions are the ones deserving of the title. Yes, there always comes a point where realism (as in, you would need to cook that chicken for 40 minutes before you can eat it or get salmonella) is detrimental to gameplay. Very few people want to play the waiting game. But if the suggestion revolves around something that would add depth to the gameplay then it's a good suggestion. So if you have eaten spoiled food, ridden with mold and rotting, then it should affect you in some way or another. In Minecraft you get food poisoning, in DayZ you should get the same effect and they could possibly add self defecation to further punish you for eating bad food. You now have flies circling your butt as you try and stay hidden from whatever. Or, you could chose to lover your pants and take a shit. Using it to lure in zombies and players alike while you lie in wait for them to investigate. If you think that is retarded then you simply lack vision and should stick to playing CoD. -
One simple question Helo vs Heli
plrsniper replied to DayzForumer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The modern use of "helicopter" stems from the French "hélicoptère" which in turn stems from the Greek "Helico" and "Pteron". In Greek: Helico = Spiral Pteron = Wing "Helico" is the combining form of "Helix", which can mean many things but essentially means "Spiral" as in a "Spiral staircase" or the typical spiral shape of DNA. Depending on how you want to abbreviate the word "Helico", you either get "HELIco" or "HELicO". Heli or Helo and both are equally correct abbreviations. Though in Military and aviation use you tend to hear "Helo" used more frequently and "Heli" elsewhere, including "Chopper". (Especially in Australia) Another term for Helicopter is "Whirlybird", most commonly used during the Vietnam war. ---- In short, both uses are equally acceptable and their use depends on where you learned it. -
I don't KOS all the time, i just make damn well sure they are scared. VERY scared.

Killed on the loading screen?
plrsniper replied to skilfuleric's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As you log in there is a period of time (all depending on server speed and your own PC's loading time) where your character is standing and waiting for you to take control of it. It's how ArmA 2 works and cannot be fixed. However, it can be changed so that when you load up you stay in debug land and use an action to teleport to the combat area. Obviously you won't be able (or allowed?) to shoot at people in debug land as per usual. And when you teleport there will still be a lot of loading time and FPS drops etc. It's just how the game works. Might be solved in SA to some extent but in the end, you still have to load in and your character be created and geared before you can play. -
I am sure more than 50% of these "1st person makes me seasick" are actually lies in favor of being able to prone on rooftops and see people below using 3rd person exploits. Peace, i am out!

How will we lose zombies after bugs are fixed
plrsniper replied to Tacklebait (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well, if zombies actually pose a challenge then i might just become a friendly again. But we'll see... In the end, there will always be some way to fool all zombies and powerloot everything and then run around killing players. If zombies are going to be harder to lose and get to you anywhere at any time i just hope there is more ammo around and that snipers too will have to fear the wrath of zombies. Or this game is going to become Snipers vs Targets pretty fast and everybody not owning a sniper rifle and not having the dedication to get one will just stop playing and servers will by default empty themselves in weeks. -
What Happened On Your FIRST DAY Of DayZ?
plrsniper replied to Devon206 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
First time was about 9 months ago. Zombies where glitching through walls and all that. Was in "tryhard" mode so i crawled a lot and tried to get to even the smallest loot spots. Then i died a lot and then i didn't play DayZ until December. Now i just feel zombies are annoyances and i hunt players all day. -
If you become unconscious and you log out / abort you will be stuck being unconscious for 5 minutes next time you spawn if i recall correctly.

Warning: Background programs might get you banned
plrsniper replied to Joe Freedom's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cheat Engine is as powerful as any hack. But is normally used to figure out the memory regions and pointers to said regions to make simple SP trainers and cheat in SP games. Still, it was detected as running in the background and the server added you to it's ban list. The only thing you can hope for is getting in touch with the server admin to have him unban you but i find that highly unlikely. Server admins have their panties in a bunch most of the time. -
I'm sorry but the servers i play on tend to have lots of carebears and no action what so ever. The servers where there is action are always plagued by hacks every single day. Sometimes several times per day. And to me it seems most people just want to find vehicles and farm loot spots for the AS50. Then when they find the weapon they are too damn scared to fight with it. EDIT: Mind you, i have done it all... I have been a hero, i have owned a helicopter and all the different kinds of vehicles. I have had full gear (AS50, NVG, Rangefinder, Coyote backpack, GPS, M4's, FAL's and even the L85AWS when it was still in the loot tables) and i have been a 1337 sniper, hung around NWA like most "professionals". At one point i owned 5 vehicles on the same server. The one thing all that had in common was BOREDOM. You spend your entire days just looking for stuff and fixing vehicles. If you run into someone "friendly" you still end up leaving him behind because you don't want a hatchet to the back of your head. And in most cases people are just out to get you any way they can including claiming to be friendly and even acting as such until they decide it's time to take your stuff from you. Nope, it's far more entertaining engaging in a full blown out war in Elektro using nothing but a double barreled shotgun. EDIT #2: Oh, and scaring the living shit out of other players. Especially noobs.

So how effective is the crossbow REALLY?
plrsniper replied to -Atlas-'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It does 3555 damage. Headshot is an instant kill. You can break legs with it. Thus, it's on par with most assault rifles that uses Stanag ammo. AK's do less damage. (2722) Zombies die from one shot. Ammo is very common but since bolts only come in singles it's still not easy to refill your ammo. But there are a large number of downsides. * Slow reload * One bolt per inventory slot * Not actually silent, can be heard quite far away by other players. * If you hit a player with it, all you will succeed in doing is pissing him off and before you reload he will shoot you. In the end, a hatchet is by far superior in every way despite the short range of the hatchet. -
Try something new... Stop looking for gear all the time. Use what you have and excel with it. These days most people just run right towards NWA the moment they spawn and then either get shot halfway there by a roaming band of 5 bandits or get shot at the airfield. And in the off chance they don't get shot, they find some crappy weapon that they could find in Cherno or Elektro anyways and then they camp and wait for hours upon hours... When, once again, they would find all they need in Cherno and Elektro and would also find people to fight/help depending on their preferences. Try something new, don't spend day after day alone in the middle of nowhere.

You need to watch the usage of each core on your CPU, the core that reaches 100% is the one that is causing your GPUs to only run at 35% ArmA 2 has multithreading but you can't escape the sym locks that "have" to happen. If they would invest some real effort into optimizing the game (a complete rebuild mind you) then the CPU would not be such a bottleneck.

Can Helo Crash Sites Spawn Antibiotics?
plrsniper replied to bjason1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yes, there is a small chance to find antibiotics at helo crash sites. But your best bet is looking through all hospitals (including the mash tents and medical tents) because antibiotics are quite rare. If you fear death then maybe have a friend search these locations for you? And as a last resort, sucker someone into giving you some. But that is IMHO worse than looking for them yourself. Find an empty server and look... -
There's a reason Everest climbers have dome tents. FYI. As for DayZ, dome tents are not part of the standard builds.

The quad bike is my personal favorite. And NO, i don't tend to flip them as easily as some would suggest. The main reasons it's so good are: * Rather quiet. * Green color, easier to conceal. * Small frame, fits through most road blocks. * Fast off road. The main downsides are: * Small tank. * Small storage. * Must be extremely vigilant to even the tiniest obstacle. Even running over a rabbit is risky business. Can't speed over brudges.

How will we lose zombies after bugs are fixed
plrsniper replied to Tacklebait (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You mean you have problems using the hatchet? The only issue i have when using the hatchet is when zombies attack you from like 3 meters away where they sort of teleport to your face. But that is an issue with the animations and desync and whatever else is going on and affects all weapon types. The hatchet is the number one weapon to use against zombies. -
The server can set the view distance higher than 1K, the default is 1K but the server admin can increase the max to 10K if he wanted to... Not that he would want to because it would melt peoples computers. EDIT: On your last screenshot, i don't see a single zombie. That may be the reason you have such nice FPS as i pointed out earlier, i bet there is very limited loot too.
-
I would love to have 70 FPS where you are standing. But i can't afford new computer parts just yet. I have a I7 2600K at stock clock (3.5 GHZ), 8GB 1600 MHz ram and a GTX580. What do you have? And how many zombies where there? That doesn't seem to be a standard server, maybe the amount of objects and zombies spawned are reduced? Either way, i would love to have 70 FPS in cherno... EDIT: My view distance is set at 2.5 K though. And the server tends to limit it to 1.2 K. Maybe i should fiddle some with my viewdistance settings and see if i can get the same results. EDIT #2: Oh and the server limits the view distance, your 1K setting is overridden by the server. And to me it looked like the viewdistance was set at 600 meters in your previous shot. Change your view distance to 6-700 and see if you notice a difference, then set it to 300 to compare. You should notice an immediate FPS boost as you set your view distance lower than the servers current setting.
