    Ethics of the common player

There's a difference between being shot because you did something stupid and someone specifically hunting you. I just wanted to make that clear before we move on. Because they can and they will. Some people are just playing DayZ to kill other players. The question you should ask is... "How can it be fun to kill players in DayZ" and your answer most likely revolves around the fact it takes time to get good at DayZ. It takes time to stock up on stuff. It takes time to get to the good loot spots. In essence, it takes TIME to do anything in DayZ and KoS players find joy in DayZ because they know their kills actually matter whereas in CoD it's just another kill among thousands. There's no challenge in getting a kill in CoD but in DayZ it's pretty difficult when you compare the two games. Oh, the biggest mistake of any player is expecting an unarmed player to be harmless. Even without a weapon a player can do plenty harm to you. He can pull zombie aggro to you. He can reveal himself to other players, in turn revealing you to them and you both die. He can suddenly block your path allowing zombies to eat you. (And subsequently take your stuff) He can be a spy, telling other players where you are on Skype/TS the whole time and they will in turn rob/kill you. And lastly... Just because he is unarmed NOW doesn't mean he can't find a weapon and kill you with it within seconds. You will find that killing other players as they get near you is the best way to keep them off your back. You seem to assume a Hero skin is worth something at all. All it does is tell others you have been playing for a long time but are probably useless at PvP. I feel the outcome of your post will have the opposite effect as some players thrive on the tears of others. This is yet another thread filled with tears from someone who haven't bothered learning how to PvP.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

Firstly Yes, you own the game and are entitled to playing it however you'd like. But i hope you realize that DayZ is a multiplayer game. You are supposed to meet and interact with other players and not sit in the remotest regions of Chernarus doing nothing but gathering items. Second I haven't been scared in DayZ for a LONG time. That's the problem... Well, until very recently where i invited the WHOLE server to come down and fight us. We made ourselves EASY targets and i told them what i had (DMR, AS50, Coyote pack and full inventory) and they knew that we had all the rooftops. So they finally came, IN FORCE... And killed us all without problem from very far away with sniper rifles. We couldn't even see them get into position, let alone find them as they opened fire on us. During this time i wasn't scared, i was just amused and happy they finally decided to leave the wilderness and take a bloody risk. What got my heart pumping was when i spawned back in Drakon (500 meters east of Elektro) and i ran into the school. Found a double barrel shotgun with 2 shots and a guy walked in through the north entrance and i slugged him in the face point blank. I stole his gear and ran out east on a flanking mission to the sniper hill. THAT's the first time in a month where my heart actually pumped harder and i had an adrenaline rush. Unfortunately i was gunned down by an AK-74, i wasn't paying attention to the industrial area on my right. Whenever i venture out to Berezino, Stary Sobor, NWA, NEA etc etc i am not scared... I am bored out of my mind! And when i finally find another player it usually ends with him dying within the minute. Even if we try to rob him as players knows two things only. Either they run away scared shitless or they fire back randomly and force us to kill them either way. The point is, running around the map is less risky than staying in Elektro. You just talk big because you have been out in the wilderness for so long you think you are invincible. No, i wouldn't know about some island east out in the nowhere. I don't like playing the exploration game hours on end finding nothing at all.

    Once again ...

All this post comes across as is you crying.

So that's what it's all about...

Yes, your best option is to either stay invisible forever or learn to PvP.

    (Re)creating humanity points

No, it's a player driven world and the only NPCs out there are the Zombies and they serve only one purpose. Any reward (or punishment) system is only going to skew the game and the bandit/hero skin is bad enough as it is. I sure hope nothing like it makes it into SA and people will just have to learn to recognize each other by name and make up their own damn minds of they can be trusted or not. Which is pretty much the case already. It doesn't matter if you have bandit, noob or hero skin. You may still be killed at any time. If it's a hero he can just abuse blood transfusions until he regains his hero skin anyways.
  6. Actually Bambi is not a name in this game. It's more of a "species" and as such it's indeed Bambis. And i agree, FrankieOnPC is a cheater and he "invented" it for DayZ so why would you want to use that term? To the OP... The server advertisement section is that way --------->
  7. plrsniper

Is the term "bandit" losing meaning?

So if you are on top of the fire station in Elektro breaking the legs of all fresh spawns that venture there... Are you a bandit or a jerk? They will die none the less because they don't know how to survive when they can't run around so what difference does it make? Further more, there are very few ways to be a "proper" bandit these days. If you shoot at someone and break their legs they will in 90% of the cases fire back at you. Your only option is to stay hidden and hope the guy complies. That rarely if ever happens though, they'd much rather die than be at your mercy. That or they combat log. (Which can still be done mind you) That is the reason players KoS rather than rob other players. Very few options available to knock other players out and relieve them of their gear and victims much rather dying than complying or combat logging the moment they are fired upon.
  8. Having spent my last couple of months killing everyone on sight no matter what they have or where they are i have come to the conclusion that most players just don't know a thing about PvP in DayZ. And that is what i hope to change with this post. First, let me point out that i don't expect everyone to become KoS monsters, bandits, heroes or any of the "professions" you can have in DayZ. I just except people to know how to act when fresh spawned and beyond. To me, there is no such thing as a "Fresh spawn" to begin with. I understand the definition but i beg to differ with it's implications etc. I'd much rather call them unarmed players. Mind you, when i spawn i can easily find a weapon in less than 20 minutes (many times it takes 3-4 minutes) and as such i don't consider myself unarmed or fresh for long. Ok, so i just spawned in Elektro... What should i do? Many people here on these forums would tell you to get out of Elektro ASAP and run for the hills. But i urge you to reconsider, spawning in Elektro (or Cherno) is actually a great opportunity to gear up fast and get some proper experience under your belt. Here are some pointers to stay alive for the first 10 minutes. Do NOT run in straight lines. Doing so will make it much easier to hit you! Strafe and change directions a lot! Try to avoid zombie aggro as much as possible but be quick on your feet and move in cover. NEVER crawl, crouch walk or stay inside i house. If you do get zombie aggro it's not the end of the world but be aware that zombie aggro is the number one reason bandits will spot you. Try and lose your aggro ASAP but never stop moving. Search the fire station(s) for military weapons but ALWAYS be on the move as you do. If you see a player in there and you have no weapon then RUN erratically away from the threat. It is nearly impossible to hit a target that is changing directions every .5 seconds. (Really) Remember, Zombies are dumb and as long as you are running away from them they cannot hit you. If you encounter a zombie in front of you then run around him with at least 2 meters to spare. You really don't have time to deal with zombies in Elektro, your best option is to ignore them and lose them to the best of your ability. Run through houses and around corners and you will lose between 70 - 100% of them every time. If you for whatever reason get stuck somewhere with zombies coming at you... DON'T PANIC! Simply assess the situation and if you can make them ignore you in any way that is the best option. (you shouldn't have gotten stuck to begin with but we are talking about surviving this mistake) If you have a rifle and a hatchet and you have to kill a zombie... Drop the gun and use the hatchet! You are only going to make things MUCH worse if you try to shoot your way out with a noisy weapon. (Not to mention, bandits will kill you soon thereafter as you have given away your position) You can lure zombies away from other places by using VON in the direct chat channel. You don't have to say anything, they will aggro none the less. Be aware that this trick only works ONCE for each zombie until they decide to follow another trigger. And obviously, all players in the area will see zombies running towards your position. You need to balance it right so all bandits think you are somewhere but in reality you have now flanked around and are in a completely different (hopefully zombie free) location. You can abuse this trick to lure bandits into looking a certain direction while you loot another building or come up behind the bandits and kill them. There are many more things to consider but i will get to them later possibly. Now, lets talk about the layout of Elektro for a moment. Points of interest: Central fire station. (Military loot, Shotguns, SMG's, Assault rifles and the occasional sniper rifle) The store. (Food, drinks and backpacks. As well as maps, compasses, Pistols, Lee Enfield, Winchester etc) Power plant fire station. (Military loot, Shotguns, SMG's, Assault rifles and the occasional sniper rifle) School. (Food, drinks and backpacks. As well as maps, compasses, Pistols, Lee Enfield, Winchester etc) Church. (Food, drinks and backpacks. As well as maps, compasses, Pistols, Lee Enfield, Winchester etc) Hospital. (Medical supplies, Bandages, Blood bags, Morphine and antibiotics) Zombie hill. (Nothing to find normally but an excellent vantage point!) Sniper hill / mountain. (Other players, mainly snipers. Loot depends on what they carry with them. Requires a weapon to loot!) Farm. (Slight chance of finding a CZ550 sniper rifle or a winchester, hatchet, food, drink etc) 1. Central fire station. The goto place for guns and ammo. If you are feeling cocky you can make a beeline for this location. Just remember to move erratically and strafe a lot. Make sure you don't have many zombies with you as you go in and don't stay for long. If you don't find any weapons then get out ASAP and move along. Potential threats come from the church, school roof and the sniper hill. Best approached during rain and fog. Be mindful of bandits on top of the tower roof. They have a perfect 360 vision of the city (minus the school and hospital area) and will abuse this to their advantage. Especially when survivors come into town from the west side. They also have a perfect view over the sniper mountain from there and will easily defeat snipers who are setting up on the sniper hill should they have a sniper rifle. 2. The store. Stock up on food and drinks here and find a backpack. Make sure you don't get stuck inside with zombies blocking all doors. Stay away from the windows! Be quick and get out ASAP! Potential threats come from the school, central fire station, zombie hill and sniper hill. Best approached after you have a decent weapon. (rifles etc) 3. Power plant fire station. Much like the central fire station but off to the side with less zombies. You can find guns and ammo here but beware of snipers as they have a perfect angle on you in the tower and outside the station. Potential threats come from all angles. School, central fire station, hospital, sniper hill and zombie hill. Best approached during rain and fog and strafing erratically. Beware that this location is surrounded by large fields and is right next to the sniper hill. Going up the slopes to sniper hill from here is an exercise in futility if someone is looking at you so BEWARE! Bandits can be prone on the roof of the tower so be mindful of this as you approach. 4. School. Pretty much identical to the store but beware! The school is a killing floor and zombies tend to be a real threat here too! You can stock up on food and drinks here and find the occasional backpack. You can also find Lee Enfields and shotguns here as well as pistols. Worth a visit if you don't already have a gun. Potential threats come from one direction mainly (not that you should ignore the rest) and that is the hospital roof. Due to the windows on the front of the school staircase it is ill advised to linger. Bandits can be on the very top of the school and have a perfect vantage point into the store main entrance and the yard in front of the school. 5. Church. One of the few locations where you can stay without the immediate threat of being shot at from the outside. You find food, drinks and the occasional Lee Enfield, shotgun or pistol in here. Beware of zombies blocking the only entrance (and thus exit) and remember that if someone saw you go in they will very likely shoot at you when you leave or set up a blockade outside. Grenades tend to find their way into the church from time to time so stay in the far back. 6. Hospital. Broke a leg? Out of bandages? Need a blood bag for your friend? The hospital is where you'll find all you need in medical supplies. If the glass is broken it's rather "safe" to sit inside. The zombies cannot enter the hospital and players rarely shoot at you when inside because they will find it hard to get a good angle on you. Don't go up on the roof unless you intend to stay there. Obviously, if some sort of bandit is up there then you really shouldn't go up as he will murder you before you even get a chance to turn around. The hospital is a great vantage point for bandits and it gives them decent cover. Always keep this in mind as you go near it. 7. Zombie hill. You will not find much up there, there are no spawn points and the only reason it's mentioned is because the occasional player (possibly bandit) can be there and have a good vantage point on the sniper hill as well as all rooftops in the city. It's not advisable to go up there though as you are an easy target if spotted and zombies tend to patrol the hill. Hence the name "Zombie hill". 8. Sniper hill. The number one pick of any sniper examining the city or setting up to snipe players in the city. Here is where you will find the occasional fully geared (DMR, M107, AS50 etc) player with a ghillie suit. It's not a great spot for bandits though because of the limited vision you have of the city and the number of places in the city where counter snipers can poke around corners and take them out. It's worth a visit if you have a gun as you can easily sneak up behind players and kill them while they look down into the city. Just be mindful of the ghillie suited snipers. They are nearly impossible to spot and at times you will walk right over them before you realize they are there. 9. Farm. The farm is a good spot to find a gun, some spare food and drink. It's surrounding areas are also great observation points and you will find the occasional sniper out near the power lines as well. Beyond that, it's not a priority location to visit and going into town from there is coupled with a great deal of risk as you are exposed on an open field. And here is a picture where i have drawn the areas where players are most likely to get shot. (from personal experience shooting players and being shot) It's not 100% accurate but you get the idea i hope. The best way to enter the city is via the industrial area to the west following the coast and heading to the back of the church or hoses south of the hospital. Or if you are coming from the east, follow the train tracks and go in from the backside of the hospital. And that is all i have energy and time for today. At least now you know why you keep dying in Elektro by KoS bandits. They see you easily and you are doing it all wrong. Don't be an easy target, become good at PvP and KoS will not be such a big issue to you anymore. And there may actually be some gunfights that last more than 5 seconds as well!
  9. Why do you expect not to get shot at in the first place no matter what skin you have? DayZ poses zero challenge as it is, do you want it that way?
  10. plrsniper

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

Yes, DayZ should be about team play (not denying lonewolfing though) and building up your team, I totally agree with that. I too have played EvE Online and i wanted to battle other players there as well. But my brother wanted to farm ISK and do industrial stuff in hi-sec. We joined corporations and worked together to build up a fleet of ships, we had several billions in ISK and assets and where doing just great in terms of economics and industry but neither of us had any PvP experience and we rarely ventured into low-sec. If we where war decced we jumped corp and waited for the "evil griefers" to go away. We complained about all the wars, we fled the scene and continued on with our farming activities. To top it off, we bought time codes with ISK so we didn't spend a single penny on the monthly fee... All we ever did was farm ISK in highsec by missions, trading, building and mining. Eventually it came to a point where you ask yourself every minute of every day... WHAT'S THE POINT? Why do i farm all this ISK, equipment and ships? Why am i spending ever more ISK on super expensive officer items? Why am i mining this ore day in and day out to make more ships to sell or fit if all i ever intend to do with them is run missions? I had three accounts running at the same time, missions stopped being a challenge after 2 weeks of play. I stopped tankfitting my ships and instead fit them for maximum damage and by sheer overwhelming DPS i beat the missions before the NPC's could get through my shields. There was zero challenge in that, no fear just the day to day grind. My brother had 5 accounts and while he sensed there was still some kind of challenge (or fear) involved in doing missions (he tankfitted his 5 accounts) he too had no challenge in doing missions. It just took him slightly longer to make the ISK. DayZ is similar to EvE in that sense. There is no risk involved in fighting zombies really, if you know what you are doing then zombies are just mobile hurdles for you to overcome and the rewards are way too great for the risk involved (similar to running hi-sec level 4 missions in EvE) and thus it gets boring the moment you have tried all that the game has to offer to you. What differs DayZ from EvE is that in DayZ there is no hi-sec areas. You are a target anywhere at any time no matter what gear you have with you. Remove hi-sec from EvE and you would find that half of the playerbase would rage quit right away. A big portion of those that remain would complain day in and day out and the rest would relish and actually enjoy the game more. You would have a mass return of players from the past who have waited for this change but in the end the game would be at a loss of players. Now, that might sound like i agree with you but what it really is about is. If you don't like PvP then play Hello Kitty instead of a game that involves combat between players. Consider DayZ without PvP for a second. Would it be challenging to you? If you knew you could run straight through Elektro with your pants down and unload your Glock at every zombie you come across and no player could harm you in any way. Would DayZ still be fun? What's the point in having assault rifles, sniper rifles and light machine guns in DayZ when you can easily use a pistol to get around? And that is before you consider just how effective the hatchet is... Why should you only start to care if you live or die once you have found a good backpack and/or a DMR/M107/AS50/FN-FAL etc etc? Why should you be safe from harm just because you spawned 20 minutes ago and still haven't found a gun? I don't care if i live or die and i am fully geared. All i care about is finding a real challenge and the only way to find a real challenge is to teach every player, new or old, how to do PvP. I feel no different when fighting players at NWA as i do fighting a Lee Enfield user in Elektro. In both cases they are just as skilled (that is mainly, not skilled at all) and the only difference is players up at NWA camp even harder. They will still die once they reveal themselves as i flank around and find them prone in their ghillie suits with their huge AS50 sniper rifles looking into the airfield. The only way you will learn PvP is by being exposed to it from the start and that is why our EvE experience failed so hard. We sat safe in hi-sec and did no PvP at all and we cared too much about dying to risk going into PvP. DayZ is not EvE in that sense. The moment you log in you are a target and knowing that teaches you how to deal with the threat. And that is just it, the only threat that ever exists in DayZ right now is other players. But players are trying really hard to avoid this threat alltogether and instead opt to stay out in the middle of nowhere farming gear and vehicles that will never be used properly. And when we come and kill them they rage and cry because they have spent several days collecting it all and they don't know how to retaliate because they have never learned how to fight. Elektro is an excellent place to learn PvP and more players should take the time to learn PvP before they start hoarding stuff. Enough stuff to equip every player on the server several times over... That is never used and only kept by 3-4 players. EDIT: Oh and one more thing... If i let a fresh spawn run through Elektro and let him leave with a map, compass, food, drink and a gun i will not see that player for up to a week as he will go into the wilderness and hide there. He will not interact with other players nor will he seek out any action. His primary objective will be, find a vehicle. Fix it and drive it to the remotest parts of the map and hide it there. Why should the server have to deal with his bandwidth? DayZ is a multiplayer game... Why should we let players treat it as their own single player experience for weeks on end? If you plan to be a hero, medic or bandit then fine by me... Just don't make excuses for being out in the middle of nowhere where you can't interact with other players. That is why i stay in Elektro, the chances of finding another player there increases tenfold over finding them inlands.

Killing a man with his own gun

Typical DayZ player... Can't kill another player? HACKUSATIONS!

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

I never said i hunt fresh spawns only. I hunt everyone, no matter what gear they have or how long they have been around. To me you come across as just another whiner who can't deal with being killed and want everything served on a platter. Why? Because you shape what others say to suit your own agenda so you have someone else to blame for your own mistakes. I have been around the map several times the past weeks but the one place where you are sure to find players is Elektro. If you go to NWA you will find a player 1 out of 10 visits and a group of players once every 20 visits. And that is long before you realize that these players are just as horrible at PvP as the rest of the fresh spawns in Elektro. They sit out in the open and unload on zombies making their presence known to the entire server and most of them die to zombie attack anyways, leaving me with nothing to kill in the first place. Then you have Stary, Zele, Berezino, Balota, Krasnostav + NEA and all the other little places players go to find good gear at. Each of them are even more deserted than NWA. If you combine all of them into one you may find as many players during your day as you do in Elektro in 1 hour. But once again, they are all just as bad at PvP as the next guy. They play the game to hoard gear and fix vehicles, they don't know a thing about combat with other players. Nor do they care to learn and instead they cry like little babies when we come up and kill them off. The other day we decided to make a round trip around chernarus and kill off a bunch of carebears and all their vehicles. We hit them at the factory inside the Dolina, Polana, Orlovets triangle and killed one of their fully geared players just as they where leaving with a land rover. The other player exited the vehicle and remained in the factory for about 10 minutes before he decided to hop into the vehicle. (My mistake was to not shoot out the tires of the vehicle though) And a few moments later he jumped into the vehicle and ran off, leaving his friends fully geared corpse behind. And 1-2 minutes after that we had a MI-17 circling the area for about an hour doing nothing useful at all. Hardly entertaining. Mind you, these guys have "sworn" that if we leave Elektro they would kill us without problems. After a while, not finding anything else there we move on north to look for heli crashes. We find one, bring some ammo and the sidechat reveals that some snipers are shooting everyone in Elektro. We decide to head back down south to deal with them. As we run back past the Factory we are suddenly being shot upon. Wasn't paying attention to our surroundings and one of us where hit and bleeding but still alive and managed to bandage. I administer a blood bag while our third guy flanks around to come up behind the threat. This third guy is rather noobish though and he runs straight into the attacker, no more than 2 meters away from eachother they engage in a nasty gunfight. The enemy has an M14AIM and our guy fields an M24. Clearly the M14AIM at 2 meters distance should rape face against a bolt action sniper but the guy seems to have no experience at all and simply unloads his magazine and only managing to hit our guy once. Our guy in turn shoots back once without the scope and misses. And the second shot hits home right in the attackers chest and he falls down unconscious and bleeding. One more shot and the guy is now dead... It took less than 5 seconds before the side chat was being filled with hackusations like "i hit you 5 times!!! You cheater!" and "Noob kiddies can't play the game without hax" and lots of profanity. We haven't seen this particular player ever since. --- Yet you have the tenacity to say we can't deal with people firing back at us? That we are scared of dying? We do PvP every day, we mix in camping Elektro with roaming the inlands. We fear nothing but total humiliation. (As in, we fail miserably and get shot down doing something really noobish) We also occasionally help other players. We do give people rides from time to time, we give away vehicles we don't need and we always help people who have issues with the bugs in the game etc. We tell players where there are cars to be found and fixed (and no, we don't camp said vehicles either) and i have given morhpine and blood to people in need. I have spent many hours playing the hero, medic and helper and now i am playing the KoS bandit. Just about every time we kill an unarmed player we are "camping Elektro kids" and every other time we kill a armed player we are "evil people who do nothing but KoS". The remaining people we kill actually say "GG, that was fun" and learn from their mistakes but that is extremely rare. Thus in conclusion, all players (who aren't bandits) want to do in DayZ is farm gear all day long and fix cars and helicopters. They don't want other players in the game. They could just as well play on their own pw protected private hive.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

Wasteland is a wasteland. And besides that, it's just not the same as DayZ. IMHO, DayZ is better in that regard and more popular as well. The thing that i am getting at with my post (and the reason i shoot fresh spawns and fully geared alike) is that you are never supposed to be safe. If you spawned fresh you should still behave like you where carrying really good gear. The reason people refuse to interact with strangers is fear. They are too afraid of dying after having spent several days farming gear. You don't have to be a carebear to get food, drink, ammo and guns. All you need to do is no get shot while finding it. Once you have a gun, even a makarov, you have all you need to do PvP. Albeit, you are at a disadvantage. But like i pointed out in my previous post. Just because you don't have a gun doesn't mean you will lose every engagement you have with other players. As for fresh spawns, while i really just want to kill them for being stupid. I simply shoot them in their leg and watch to see how they handle the situation. Most people just rage and give up, blaming me for THEIR mistakes. This one guy was actually quite smart though. He had managed to grab an AK-74 and was actively looking for me and my friends in Elektro. His downfall was leaving himself exposed for a brief moment so i snapped his leg but let him live. He crawled into a residential house and we did have a conversation over sidechat. I said i wouldn't shoot him as long as he didn't aim at any one of us. And we would let him get to the hospital safely and pick up morphine. He of course ran into some trouble with the zombies but since the latest DayZ version, we can lure zombies away with von over direct chat and we did. He seemed to have problems getting into the hospital with his broken legs though so i told him to drop his gear and i would come and personally fix him up. Unfortunately i was but one second too late and a zombie landed a critical hit on him. He still had fun as we where told and he learned a valuable lesson. NEVER THINK YOU ARE SAFE, always assume someone is aiming at you at any time.

    Going full "Daryl"

It's awful whenever you come across a player though. And TBH, a hatchet is way better against zombies.

    How to hide a camp?

There is no safe spot to hide your stuff at. There is always the odd risk involved no matter where you put your tents. The problem is that people know how to spot them from far away and most people who are looking for them looks in all the places that may seem like good spots. Consider the following... (Fictitious numbers involved) There are 100 good places on the map all scattered around the map. The map is 225 km². That is one good spot per 2.25 km² Standing in the middle of a 2.25 km² "spot" lets you see all corners of that area on a good day. (ignoring terrain features) The "spot" grid is 15x15, you need to run ~33.75 km to go from end to end in the grid. Running speed is 17 km/h so it should take ~2 hours to scan one column of spots. In total it would take 30 hours to do a sweep of the whole map for a single player. It's only a matter of time really... If there are 30 people on the server and they are all scattered around the map and all looking for camps you could estimate that your camp would be found in 1-2 hours with them on foot. Then you mix in the various force multipliers and the fact very few hide their camps in the middle of an open field. Having a quadbike (or similar) allows you to travel at 50 km/h, effectively tripling the search speed. And finally, with a helicopter you can (given you have a good spotter onboard) even divide the search time by 10. Yes, there are places that cannot be seen from less than 200 meters away. Those are the places that will be searches first though by a veteran player. Like i said, it's just a matter of time. There are no safe spots. Eventually someone will stumble over your camp and there is nothing you can do to stop it barring having someone looking over it with a sniper rifle 24/7. Which brings me to the conclusion, only keep what you can carry. The best hiding spot of all time is the database. That's where your character goes when you log off.

Why do people consider Kamenka a bad spawn?

Because most of the action happens in Cherno / Elektro even though it's fully geared bandits on rooftops most of the time. I want to fight, not spend hours on end looking for gear that i won't actually use. So in that regard, spawning in Kamenka is really shitty and especially when you spawn at the train bridge as there is no zombies there to suicide on and all you have is a 2.5 - 3 meter drop off the bridge to rely on. If i where a lonewolf and all i ever wanted was to hoard gear and not actually play multiplayer then i would of course walk up past zele and onwards. But then i should question why i even play DayZ in multiplayer if i don't actually want to interact with other players at all.

DayZ comes up as a trojan

The only virus warning i have gotten in relation to DayZ is when BeClient wants to update itself, saying it's a generic downloader trojan. Obviously that is a false positive too. Just send the file to be examined by whatever virus scanning companies you trust. They will tell you the whole story.
  18. "Why is everybody shooting on sight today?" - Because you are running around like a fool with a train of zombies behind you clearly not bothering to watch out for other players. You may as well just stand in the middle of Elektro and shoot a makarov once and admire the zombies that come and eat your face off.

    Starting over

Pfft, you make it sound like finding vehicles, helicopters and gear is difficult or something. It's a grind and that is all it is. There is no fun in that... But yes, considering every vehicle and helicopter i have ever been in possession of has been used for shenanigans (and inevitably exploded in big fireballs etc) and i am still alive with my fully geared -60,000 humanity 24/7 PvP bandit of doom... I am looking forwards to starting over. In fact i am urging everyone on the server i play on to kill me so i can start anew. Not because i am bored if having it all but because i am bored of the lack of action i see still. Starting over means i get to use such lovely weapons as the makarov, Lee Enfield, Winchester and whatever else again. Though it probably wont take long before i kill another "try hard hoarder noob" out in the middle of nowhere and take his stuff. EDIT: Really, spending hours upon hours building bases, gathering vehicles of all sorts etc... What's the bloody point? Just grab a weapon. Any weapon and go do PvP instead.

    Is this smart?

All i can say is, it won't take long before you are comfortable with a mouse and keyboard and they you will wonder why in the bloody hell you ever used a gamepad for first person shooters in the first place. No, it's not a good idea to use a gamepad in DayZ. You will be at a huge disadvantage!

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?

Yes, DayZ is exactly like CoD... -.- ... Except... * When you spawn you have no guns. You have to find them again if you die and fail to reach your corpse. * The guns you have is the guns you manage to find. You don't just get to decide that you want to be an xXXüb3r1337 5N1P0RXXx. * Players actually spend some thought into their PvP, you don't just run into them in an alleyway and unload hoping to be the first to fire. * You actually have to do other things even if all you do is kill on sight. Such things include eating, healing, drinking, dodging the occasional zombie, finding cover, patrolling, tracking, tricking and actually aiming properly to be successful at killing other players. * The people you shoot at actually FEAR death. They react accordingly. I could go on but i spent more time making this list than you did actually thinking about your rant. That said, here are some other differences between you and me. * The survival stage lasts as long as it takes me to reach a city or decent loot spot. That may be 2 minutes or 20 minutes depending on where i spawn. Though in the latter case (spawning in kamenka for example) my "survival stage" is aimed at one thing... Killing myself to spawn closer to one of the cities. * The point in killing a fresh spawn may be many things. Target practice, for the lulz, teaching them not to run around like idiots, actually make the game challenging for them (the very thing you say is lacking in DayZ), keeping them from distracting you as you hunt for bigger game. Either way, a fresh spawn is not spared in DayZ and as i spawn fresh my one and only goal is to find a gun and kill other players. I would not let myself roam free knowing that. * It is true that DayZ has a "steep learning curve", especially if you are a slow learner to begin with or you take the game too seriously. But if you learn from your mistakes and don't really give a F**K then you will become good at it way faster. Now, mix in the threat of other players and you might realize that KoS is a GOOD THING as that adds to the survival aspect that you want. Learn to PvP, especially when you have no gun at all. * You don't have to loot deer stands to get military grade gear. Just go into Cherno or Elektro and look in the fire stations or better yet... Kill bandits and take their stuff. Instant fully geared. I spawned near Elektro, walked into town. Found a makarov and my friend was shot by an AS50 sniper. The shot came 1 click NW of elektro so i flanked for 5 minutes, found the bastard and popped one in the back of his head. He had full gear, my char is still alive, 1 month and counting. On a side note, it's definitely not "99.9% who sees first kills first". It's just a matter of being good enough not to become an easy target. As proven by my earlier encounter with a person fielding a Lee Enfield. I had just spawned, i came into the school in Elektro and there he was in the hallway. I turned around and ran out just in time as he shot at me and missed. It then turned into a foot chase and he managed to land a shot on me. Bleeding like a stuck pig i just said "F**K IT" and turned around and ran circles around him randomly. He unloaded three clips and then rand out of ammo. Still bleeding i ran into the store, picked up a winchester and the hunter became the hunted. Except i can aim! He is running like a chicken now, i snap his legs and finish him off. Bandage and laugh. I have more stories to tell just like that one, it's a matter of knowing what you are doing in 75% of the cases. (The rest is sheer luck) All of this comes long before you consider the other "professions" that exist in DayZ. It's a sandbox and you are free to do whatever you want. I just prefer fighting under the rules provided by the DayZ environment as it's quite a bit more challenging than playing CoD or BF3 or even ArmA 2 PvP and greatly more entertaining.
  23. I break the legs of any survivor i see running in a straight line towards whatever building they want to enter etc. But they rarely if ever learn... All people do is complain when they find something to be "too hard" instead of learning from their mistakes. I blame the consoles.
  24. The whole point of veteran mode is that you are a VETERAN... You know how to use the map, you know how to get a bearing and go places. Besides that, learn to shift click the map if you suck so bad at navigating, that still works in veteran.
