I get freezing every 2-5 secounds and lag in citys?
Tigerbeetweenie replied to TheNewKidOnTheBlock8's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This game is poorly optimized. Your rig should be more than capable of handling this game, it's just ArmA's crappy engine. There's nothing you can really do about it except for maybe turn down your graphics settings little bit. Oh. and make sure your drivers/Windows/ArmA/Steam (if steam applies) are up to date. That might help you a little bit. -
Are Tents Useless without Secure Storage?
Tigerbeetweenie replied to kwairt's topic in New Player Discussion
Actually many of the so-called hackers that 'hack' this game just utilize client-side information gathering tools. There are generally two kinds: Packet based and Process based. Packet based tools just copy and read packets to and from ARMA 2 and whatever port it's bound to. Process based information gathering tools actually read process memory utilizing the Windows API system and gather information via that method. The most common type of tool is an external map which basically just holds player positions, tent positions, loot positions, etc. It's really a pain and because it's clientside, there is no way to prevent this. It can be limited, however, by reducing the set of information sent to each client (i.e. only packets about entities within a defined and limited area which changes alongside player position). -
They should be created on install.Other things to try:: Have you changed the properties to allow C:\Program Files x86\Steam\steam.exe to run as an admin (right click -> properties -> compatibility -> check "Run this program as an administrator" -> hit OK)? Have you tried running the DirectX web setup (@ http://www.microsoft...ails.aspx?id=35) as admin (right click -> run as administrator) when you install it (I'm pretty sure you said you did)? If none of these help you, I don't know what to say other than you need to re-install ARMA 2 OA. To tell the truth, I'm helping you from the sidelines. I have the retail version of ARMA 2 OA (not the steam version) and I'm just running through common sense (previous experience with DirectX install issues/steam issues with other games) and the process of elimination. I don't work for BI and I don't know everything about their engine. If you need more detailed help or nothing here helps you (assuming you did try everything, including a re-install) you could always utilize google to your advantage or even contact BI support directly (I've never dealt with their support so I don't know if they'll be of any use or not).

Look up the ARMA stats. They don't really modify the gun stats in DayZ.Edit: I found a wiki page with all the info you need. It takes 2 body shots from 300m (considering the caliber of round is the same as the other m4a1 variants). http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Weapons

If you were the Legion of Doom, I'd sign up instantly. -
Forgot you couldn't remove DirectX anymore (only attempt to reinstall it) so ignore that piece of advice. What you want to run is dxdiag.exe and try and check to see if you have any problems. It's a self explanatory program and it should be included in your DirectX installation. Just use the search box on the start menu. Unfortunately, seeing as how you didn't have an ARMA2 OA folder in the %appdata%\local folder I can only say that your ARMA installation is probably corrupt/didn't install correctly. If you haven't tried running ARMA by itself I would recommend doing that and if it still doesn't work then I'd recommend doing a complete uninstall and then subsequent re-install. *Also, please note that when I say ARMA, I really mean Operation Arrowhead although you should still run regular old ArmA 2 at least once as well. Here's a screenshot of my "%appdata%\local\ArmA 2 OA" folder and my "*.rpt".

For the love of humanity
Tigerbeetweenie replied to Tigerbeetweenie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Those are gone as well. The tents are flattened so I assume he blew up those as well with either another satchel or another type of explosive. Forgot about Berizino. I'm always in the South-East/North/North-East though so it works out. I don't really need medical supplies. I just thought that it was kind of a d-bag move for whomever to blow up the hospital. -
This is a very generic error and you might end up having to search google. There are many possibilities as to why this is not working and you really haven't given us any information surrounding your case (i.e. your OS, amount of RAM, video card, etc.).Generic Troubleshooting Tasks: Is your graphics card so old that it can't process the GPU instructions introduced in DirectX 9? Are you grabbing the right DirectX libraries for your architecture (x32/x64)? Is your AV distribution blocking any parts of ARMA/DirectX from loading? (Turn off AV and try running ARMA) Have you verified that the DLL file actually exists? (Could be a corrupt DirectX installation) Are all the registry entries for DirectX correct? (Could be a corrupt DirectX installation) Did you try completely uninstalling and re-installing DirectX? Have you tried uninstalling/re-installing ARMA 2? Do you have enough RAM to load ARMA 2? Do you have enough VRAM to run ARMA 2? Are all your drivers (video/sound/etc) up to date? Have you completely updated Windows? Is Steam completely up to date? Are there any malicious process running on your system? In case none of the above helps you (try uninstalling/re-installing DirectX before coming to this step, but don't uninstall/re-install ARMA until after this step): It sounds like ARMA is CTD'ing for some unknown reason. To really help you we are going to need: A comprehensive list of system specs The text contained within your c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\Arma 2 OA\armA2OA.rpt file. If it doesn't exist it may mean (again) that you have a corrupt ARMA installation. The environment variable to get to this directory quickly is %appdata% and if you are on Windows 7 you may have to go up one directory as it may automatically put you into the Roaming folder (you want to go into the local folder). An exact description of your problem.

Preventing server hopping
Tigerbeetweenie replied to C0LDKILL (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Just realized that the last post was in July (followed a link here). Sorry for the necrothreading. Ignore please. -
I'm going to give this a no for now. This isn't some MMORPG. You should have one life and that's it. If you want to store your crap, use tents. At least that way other people have a fair chance of looting your stuff. This is way too exploitable and it kinds of takes away a lot of the feel in the game.

Why you kill unarmed players
Tigerbeetweenie replied to mickzta's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I kill unarmed players because I can and want to. I don't need your altruistic condemnations or your shitty elitest atitudes. Just let me play the game without your bullshit opinions. -

Or. We could not give players the ability to crash servers. No but seriously, as an aesthetic effect this would be cool. As a game play element, well, not so much.

I'm going to be quite frank with you, coding isn't a skill learned over night. If you're willing to invest some serious time into it and turn it into (at least) a hobby that you keep up with, then I would by all means recommend this path to you. However, you should seriously reconsider this if you don't intend to expand your skill outside ARMA's little scripting bubble. I can guarantee that it won't end well otherwise. There are no shortcuts with this (unless you copy/paste code, which is not the same thing as coding. It's more like being a script kiddy) area of learning. Now to begin, I will start with a general introduction of topics to research (not extensive, do more research to expand your knowledge and learn in this general order unless you find a better route to take. This is a fast and hard/slightly satirical approach): Boolean Logic - (http://www.howstuffw...com/boolean.htm) Binary Introduction - (http://www.swansontec.com/binary.html) Please not that this will not be immediately useful but unnecessary. Base Conversion - (http://rachel5nj.tri...rtingbases.html) Again, not immediately useful. Compilers - (http://www.wisegeek....-a-compiler.htm) + know the difference between an interpreter and a compiler. Learn a basic programming language and teach yourself the fundamentals of coding (I recommend Javascript or Python to start, just google for tutorials on the language you want to learn) Examine and write source code for said language and use various programming forums for help. Learn SQF scripting as it is ARMA's own pet scripting language. Personally I think it sucks, but that's just me. You will need to learn it as it is the basis for most tasks you will wish to complete and add into your server. Also, don't confuse this with the outdated SQS language. (http://www.armedassa...tutorials&id=17) Use the ARMA scripting forums to your advantage. Favorite this: (http://community.bis..._Commands_ArmA2) (Optional, if you wish to waste your new found talent assuming you got to this step) Learn C++ (my favorite) or Java & Object Oriented programming. (Optional, but highly recommended) Get into modding and personal code projects. (Again, optional only if you don't want to turn this into a career) Learn Computer Science and take classes at a University ??? Profit Most people aren't going to hold your hand with this. If you're serious about coding, you must take the initiative.

Do you ever feel bad, or regret a kill?
Tigerbeetweenie replied to tals975's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You shouldn't feel like shit. He should have known not to trust strangers. It's been said like 40 times all over the wiki and is taught in elementary schools all over the world. He lacked common sense and now he lacks Pepsi. -
If you stand on a mass grave (static object, pile of dead bodies) and there are zombies chasing you, they will stop and just run around the grave in circles. Occasionally they stop to attack the air but they can't walk onto the mass grave itself.

Tigerbeetweenie replied to Dr Wasteland MD's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I am sick and in need of antibiotics. I am currently coughing up blood at an alarming rate and my vision blurs occasionally. Please PM me in order to set up a meeting place. I do not currently have much but I can trade a motherload of medical supplies (raided hospitals/med. tents again and again but couldn't find antibiotics) and/or perform errands and services if need be. -
How long have you survived?
Tigerbeetweenie replied to brandokid25's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Lol. I survived for a full 24 hours and that ended yesterday (started playing Thursday). I drove up onto the airfield with an offroad on a server with like 5 people (my base was on this server and I just happened to play later than most) then some a-hole killed me while I was getting wheels for my offroad from the airfield warehouse/shed thing. I know a guy who knows this guy (sounds fishy right) who knows where the offroad/his base is as he got a lift from the same dude today. So I'm going to metagame and go on a raid of axe murdering vengeance I'm going to stalk him first and prime his fear for a juicy and wonderful show which will end in me savoring his despair as he begs for his life and makes futile promises at giving back my stuff. Then, after I finish turning his face into a new bandit mask, I'm going to run over his tent and destroy all his crap. Will post my eventual success later. -
Lol. Skills would destroy realism.

If this was a public (non-private hive) server then you should report the admin.
