Does anyone know of a good, vanilla, DayZ private server that has a whitelist/Gotcha?

Point number 9: How about we eliminate high tier military grade vehicles (helicopters, offroads, ect) from spawning as wholes entirely. We should have to build these from "scratch" with a limited number of "base" (vehicle bodies) parts that we have to find and connect other parts to in order to repair/build the vehicle. That way, we can mostly prevent server admunz from hoarding all the vehicles at the top left corner of the map and give other players a fair chance at getting something that doesn't break down every 2 miles. Now, many people might disagree with me (and with valid reason, so rightfully so) but hear me out. I think it would make vehicles a much more coveted commodity than they are currently, would semi-eliminate server hopping to find vehicles (rare ones), and it would also make them much more devastating to lose. Of course the "hacker" problem is a first and foremost issue and various ESP maphacks would generally waste most people's efforts to build these things as they would be stolen the moment some lucky douchebag with a few social connections logs in and decides to steal it. However, ESP maphacks can be inhibited easily and the remote script execution exploits could be patched almost to the same degree ease as well SO if these two problems could be fixed by BI then it would mean that this idea could be feasibly implemented. Also, I generally don't mind helicopters but I do mind armed helicopters.

Yeah. They are similar to normal flashlights but cannot be seen at a distance. The light they emit can have really weird illumination though, depending on where you are at. Like, for example, in certain forested areas it's like a flood light (relative to the player's perspective, remember, those from a distance still can't see you) but inside the hangers at the airfield near the southern end of the island, they barely illuminate at all except when you are aiming at equipment. It might just be my graphics settings but I use military flashlights whenever I don't have NVGs so I notice these things.

Drove a fully loaded Offroad onto NW airfield in the middle of the night in order to find tires. 2nd playthrough so I didn't know that perils of such an action. -
Hm. What about military flashlights as opposed to NVGs? I mean, it's your server so you can do whatever the fuck you want but I just personally think that players should have to find NVGs the hard way. Maybe you could tweak their spawn rate.

Teleporter hopping to people and killing them
Tigerbeetweenie replied to NonovUrbizniz (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yeah, I love ARMA but they need to get bring in some people who know how to actively secure network transmissions (not that psuedo encryption crap they currently use) and they also need to beef up their script interpreter and have some access checking done on executed commands. They should also incorporate some basic metamorphic code principles and restrict the range at which players can receive data about other objects in the game world in order to prevent ESP map hacks and various other internal engine modifications. I posted a list of suggestions but they took it down for some reason. Most of the supposed reverse engineers who "crack" this game are amateurs at best and could be stopped by a few very basic techniques. Hell, even a single update that simply relocates some data structures by a couple offsets forces them to completely rewrite their programs. -
So yeah, I got pissed (first day of playing)
Tigerbeetweenie replied to pastelpunk86's topic in New Player Discussion
If you wan't to learn how to play DayZ, you should actually start with ARMA 2. Most of the individual tactics guides still apply and all the bullet physics are the same. Here's a starter (pull out the useful stuff, ignore the squad specific combat information): http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/ (or google for dslyecxi's ShackTac guide if, for some obtuse reason, the link is removed).Once you get some of the higher tier scoped weapons, the following mil-dot tutorial should also be of help: (DayZ mil-dot tutorial by DayZAzimov) As for weapon values and most other general information, the DayZ wiki (http://www.dayzwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page) should be your primary reference point. Also, since you are first starting out, I would recommend using a loot map. Once you learn the layout of Chernarus and which buildings hold what you should, in my opinion, refrain from using it as I believe it detracts from the immersion value. The one I used to use is the map that Dayzdb provides (http://dayzdb.com/map). You may see this differently than I however and if that's the case, feel free to continue using it. I won't judge you for it. There are generic survival tutorials all over the place (if you still don't know all the mechanics) so just google for them. Or you could go through the process of trial and error. -
Where can I find a hack free server for dayz?
Tigerbeetweenie replied to jaggedscars's topic in New Player Discussion
Stay on private servers that have a log parsing program with which they use to detect hackers. You might be able to find a public server with "Anti-hax" addons running but I don't think they're technically allowed to (although I don't think they'll be banned from the public hive for running them). -
I take your brand labels and substitute my own!

Third person vs First person view
Tigerbeetweenie replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A lot of people are tired of first person and others have trouble stomaching first person due to the motion sickness that can accompany it. I realize that DayZ is supposed to be in the same realism vein as ARMA but there are some situations when people are going to have to compromise realism for the sake of fun (and play-ability in certain cases). I personally think that this is one of those instances.Addendum: This is in reference to using third person to see out of grass. Furthermore, in terms of the game play mechanic itself, it's not like there isn't an option to eliminate third person from the server settings. Just play on a Veteran server with the mode you want or start your own server if you can't find a decent one (the server owners pay out of their pockets to host this game so it's not like you have the right to complain). It's not an "all-or-nothing" situation like you make it out to be. As far as using third person to see over walls goes, there are valid fixes and suggestions that have been posted that could alleviate this problem in the stand-alone. From what I've observed in this thread, there is a general consensus that this point is a valid concern and I can agree that this is an obnoxious exploitation of an otherwise completely reasonable game component. -
I mean, it shouldn't be so dark that you need a flashlight in order to see 2 inches from your face. I would like to say, however, that NVGs and flashlights should still have a place in game. NVGs are a pain in the ass to find and should, at the very least, give the user a reasonable advantage.

Community Dying? Too many hackers?
Tigerbeetweenie replied to Pauijay's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They need to make the engine slightly metamorphic and relocate various sections within the game itself so that the reverse engineers can't will have a much harder time creating external maps with equipment locations and the like (most of the supposed reverse engineers I've seen in the ARMA hacker community are rank amateurs). Furthermore they should do access level checking with each command so that the server doesn't execute and replicate malicious script commands to itself and the various other clients connected to it. They could also mitigate the effects of packet based external maps by only transmitting the locations of entities within, say, 2000m of the player. They'd probably have to write the code to do this C++ due to the fact that it's got to run on a tight, time dependent loop. It shouldn't be hard though. Simple metamorphic code, on the other hand, is harder to write and would probably take some planning. -
Farming high loot areas by server hopping
Tigerbeetweenie replied to RapturJesus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Loot spawns every 10 minutes either way. Just find two deer stands to run back and forth between and you're good. Might be a nooby way to play but it's almost as effective as server hopping and waiting for the server to populate the area with zeds/loot. -
Hello, I am looking for a group or clan with which I can team up and play DayZ with. I'll fill out the standard info. Age: 17, 18 in 3 months. Skype: Tigerbeetweenie Do I have a mic? Yes. Am I experienced in DayZ? Yes. Do I have decent up/down speed? Yes, fiber optic. What is your timezone? Eastern Standard. To be more specific in what I'm looking for, I'd like to say that I am searching for a group with a focus on raiding and banditry. I'm talking about a no-holds-bar-buckshot-to-the-face-if-you-mess-with-us type of group. Basically I'm looking for a bunch of douchebags individuals who have no moral compass and like strategic killing. The group must have a loose command structure and generic, multi-role positions (sniper/medic, heavy weapons/supply transport, etc.). The reason for this requirement is so that there is no confusion on "who does what".

What Recording Software should I use?

Fraps is nasty. Don't touch that filth. -
No problem. I would like to say that you may need at least a basic understanding of trigonometry for advanced ARMA scripting (anything dealing with advanced velocity/position manipulation, such as a laser guided missile for example). I also forgot to mention computer architecture (how your computer physically works and the various components in your computer such as graphics cards, RAM, MoBos, processors, etc.). This can be looked up separately as it is not a hard requirement when it comes to learning your first programming language. It's also an easy topic to comprehend so there really isn't a reason not to learn it and a basic understanding of computer architecture could lend itself useful in the future when it comes to choosing upgrades for your computer and troubleshooting hardware problems, which is always a good skill to have as it makes you more self sufficient and more marketable in the job field (even if you aren't planning on becoming a computer programmer for a career).

Lag issues with very good graphics card

Basically, in Windows, it means that your pagefile can shrink or grow according to your memory needs. It's automatically managed by the system, hence the name. -
Graphics Guide for Noobs (Request)
Tigerbeetweenie replied to M4uler367's topic in New Player Discussion
Stare at the ground in every area you wish to have a consistent, high quality framerate. Behold as you gain massive amounts of FPS by trying out this cool hack. Warning: Exiting the state of ground stare may cause one to lose a massive amount of FPS; extreme, explosive, anal eruptions; graphics card cancer; and sore disappointment as you realize that you've just been had. -
Some idiot just blew up the Cherno hospital (on my 'base' server) with a satchel charge. Way to go man. Now all the poor vampires will have to crawl all the way to Elektro to get their infinite supply of blood packs. In speaking of blood packs, why does every survivor in this game have the same blood type?

Kind of sick of this Arma/Battleye crap.
Tigerbeetweenie replied to Duboisia's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Do what the previous guy said and submit a support ticket to BI. I would like to say, however, to make sure that Steam/ArmA/BattleEye are running as administrator when you update them (the setup fiiles as well) and see if that does anything for you. From what I've seen, Steam is fucking people up the ass when it comes to ArmA. I have retail version and I've never really had problems with it also, generally speaking, most of the problems in this forum (as far as installation is concerned) has been with the Steam version. I got ArmA 2 OA for like 14 bucks on Amazon.
