[Suggestion] Optional anti-theft system
TheDesigner replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Come on, isn't the game easy enough! 24/7 daylight, self blood bag, no rain, 300 repaired/refueled cars, and even the ability to use telekinesis to transfer fuel from a broken pump to your fuel tank without leaving the car! I guess while we're at it we should add quick saving so if you die you can just reload from there! Seriously though, locking a car is reasonable, but not so far as to make it impossible to get in to. A lock is reasonable in a non-catastrophe/zombie filled world. Just break the window, hot wire it/jam a Philips head into it, and boom. Car. Also, giving admins the power to spawn cars is a no no. This is DayZ. -
Subtle/Small Additions to make DayZ SA/mod more Hardcore
TheDesigner replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yeah, pouring a nice amount of liquor on it before bandaging should improve your chances of not getting infected. Hell, you could even go so far as to say every hour you need to change your bandage, resteralize, etc., even with pistol shots. -
Do you use DayZ Commander? If so, it's as simple as updating ArmA 2 up in the top, above al the DayZ variants, the same place where you update DayZ.

What channel are you typing in? Make sure you're in "side chat" to type to everyone. Press the "," or "." keys to switch between channels. Side is blue. Bad version is going to have to do with your arma 2 beta version.

Subtle/Small Additions to make DayZ SA/mod more Hardcore
TheDesigner replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Make getting shot more penalizing. It should take a few in game hours for your guy to stop limping once he has bandaged and what not. A few hours so that it doesn't entirely kill your experience, but is still a bad thing. This could mean that if you shot someone and they got away, you could track them down with superior movement speed. Would encourage players to make things like camps to heal up or have a buddy to watch their back. There should be no "quick fix" for this. As that would ruin the whole point of having it. Rain should impair your vision if you don't have a cap on. -

Dayz Bad Serial number, please HELP!!!
TheDesigner replied to staticza's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I suggest Googling this or searching the forums. I've seen this problem fixed before. The answer is there if you're willing to search for it. -
Since I posted in it, I think you can assume I read it. You linked 6 servers that are up. Each running DayZero. The problem with that is almost everyone has played vanilla DayZ to death and want something new, like Breaking Point or Epoch. So with only 6 servers listed for a single mod, it's a good attempt but won't get the job done. With thousands of other servers that will have more people in it, it's unlikely that hosting some servers will suddenly make TPV nonexistent. Most people who play DayZ won't even see that post. I say around 200 individuals will see it. When DayZ probably has hundreds of thousands of unique players a week.. you can see where I'm going. And in my post that you quoted, which you probably should've read, I stated that I don't really care about the mod it's been out for over a year, I've played it to death. I care more about the Standalone and it's stance on FPV only.
-
Yes, we know. But when you look at the simple facts, first person servers are rarely populated to the amount most people like playing on. Sure, people could join them and be noble, but most want to just play the game. A majority of the people who want this want it for the SA, it's too little too late for the mod. 24/7 daylight, self-blood bagging, +400 vehicles, more weapon spawns, extra military loot in spawn towns, and always repaired cars ruined DayZmod a while ago.

Players who prefer 1st person only
TheDesigner replied to aeinola's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Well, you're right. People do feel strongly about it. But it's a little late for me. I played the mod a little under a year and got pretty bored with the everyday occurrences, mostly because third person servers popped up everywhere and promoted a sort of casual deathmatch on the coast. DayZmod is boring. I've been there, done that, a thousand times over. Never liked any of the mods that came out for DayZ either, maybe except for Lingor Island, but that was because it was the first mod and something new. It was a great mod in the beginning. A fantastic mod. It was really immersing. But now, it's an e-peen fest on the coast to see who can act like the most dark and edgy Bandit there is. -
But that's not fair! How am I supposed to see over walls now? I have to expose myself.. ? Too realistic. But lets be honest, those 50 something people who said they wouldn't buy DayZ, would. At least a large majority would. They'd pout a little bit at its announcement and then buy the game. Sadly it won't happen. No matter what polls say.

Players who prefer 1st person only
TheDesigner replied to aeinola's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Unless you have an organized community behind you to populate the new server, number 3 isn't going to work. People just don't want to be the 1-6 person on the server. Some even want more than that, around 20. The servers you listed are decent servers and I've played on them before. -
Bullets ricochet. Don't shoot in front of your friend while he's running to you. You'll both have a bad time.
-
First time I'll say this, but personally I think DayZ the mod isn't worth buying ArmA 2. I would've said its worth it because of the content ArmA 2 offers also, but with ArmA 3 out, I can't honestly say it is. It's a good mod, but it would be like buying Counterstrike: Source and expecting it to a tactical shooter and not a headshot-fest.

banned for no reason server is Military hardware

Either contact admins on the server or their website. If they don't have one, I recommend putting their server name in the title. -
Plz Help me with installing dayz!!!
TheDesigner replied to ChezburgersSux's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
I got this error or something similar when I downloaded DayZ, but that was back when you had to do things manually. I'm trying to remember what it was... What DayZ variant are you downloading? Just vanilla? Make sure you're joining a server that is actually running whatever DayZ variant you've downloaded by filtering for it in DayZ commander. -
Since its going to be its own game and not a laggy mission file, the SA will have a significant FPS boost. I get like 20-30 FPS on DayZ, but ArmA 2 domination I get like 30-40. It all depends on how well optimized a mission file is.

Plz Help me with installing dayz!!!
TheDesigner replied to ChezburgersSux's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Have you run both games? Run both ArmA 2 and ArmA 2 AO before installing DayZ. -
Since its bias because only people on the forum answer it, I agree with you, partly. I then disagree with the point that I've always followed DayZ because they developed to develope, not for money. So shouldn't Rocket and Co. be developing the SA around the core community's ideas and not some kid's flawed COD logic? The core community wants a realistic hardcore zombie survival game. Lets be honest, it won't exist with third person. I know that anyone here who played DayZ very early will know that the number of hardcore first person only servers with no crosshairs was VERY, VERY high. It decreased when private hives boomed and players got their grubby hands on the pristine DayZ server files. The games gone full casual and is unbearable to play. If rocket releases the SA with third person on in a majority or even near a majority of servers, the DayZ SA will be the DayZ mod with a fancy new engine.
-
Good attempt, but even if the poll came out with 90% saying yes, it wouldn't happen. It's just the way the SA is being made, they're trying to cater to every single person's needs. When games do that, they tend to turn out bad. It's sad to say, but I won't be buying DayZ SA for a while until I see what the server list is like. If it's just a ton of third person servers with very few first person only servers, I'm holding on to my dollars. Small things like First person only will not make people not want to buy the game, since third person is actually pretty uncommon in most major games. You usually only see third person in casual arcade-y games.

Predictions that actually came true
TheDesigner replied to Eazy-Makaveli's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I predict that due to a life changing epiphany, Rocket will scrap the development of the DayZ Standalone to make the game his inner self has always wanted to make, Stand Alone, Daisy. A depressing story of a lonely daisy. And I digress. -
First vs Third Person Discussion (Dslyecxi video)
TheDesigner replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Since no one can counter my arguments and just blabber about how TPV makes the game more dangerous, I think my argument is proven. (Gun play, effective strategies, and suppression will be on par with games like COD, until either removed or you play on FPV servers only.) I don't think we should remove TPV entirely, but it should be a rare server. It doesn't mix well with what DayZ is trying to be, therefore it degrades gameplay. I hope Rocket starts off the SA with many FPV servers. If not, I would of wasted my money. It'll be something I look in to before buying the SA. (Also, a tip, if you're tired of massive KOS, try FPV servers. People generally don't camp cities because they're dangerous when you can't use your magic camera to peek around corners. Your experience in DayZ will improve tenfold)
