I came to a revelation earlier today. It was on how bias the DayZ community is, in general, towards factors that would infringe on bandits. I used to believe it was because they generally believed "DayZ shouldn't limit my play style", but I believe it really is "DayZ shouldn't make my Easy mode (AKA banditry) Hard". Think of it. Make it so bandits gain a head scarf when they kill enough innocent players and they freak because magically warping into those clothes is "unrealistic" and "infringing". Make Heros magically warp into neon white and blue clothes and no one lifts a finger. It's ridiculous. You might argue "Oh well, people don't shoot Heros on sight as much as they do Bandits", but when 90% of DayZ players are "Dark and Edge-y" bandits, I beg to differ. I seriously noticed no difference in how much I was shot at as a normal survivor and a Hero. You might argue that the "Mentallity" players have is what causes the massive amount of bandits. I'll counter and say that mentallity isn't what makes KOS or Banditry the preferable path, it is DayZ itself. It pampers Bandits like newborn babies. Anyone who played DayZ before the Babdit Boom would agree it was way more enjoyable. There was the now-unheard-of RP. You would get robbed instead of shot, because it both saved ammo and was quieter. Now the only player interactions I have are me and another unarmed guy or meeting up with a player in TS (1/100 times I'll find another player who doesn't shoot me, but not often). Every amateur Pyschologist on these forums claim it's realistic. I'm no Psychologist either, but once you've killed 50 people, you were either already insane or you are now. Not every play style should be pampered by DayZ, as with every other game. For comparison, lets just say DayZ is a stealth-like game, since when you raid towns, stealth should be the preferred method. Lets compare it to any other stealth game, like Dishonored or some levels in the newish Metro game. In those games, going in Guns-a-Blazin' is the worse path to choose. Going in stealth saves you ammo, health, time, and is generally more satisfying. DayZ? Shoot everything and you win. Part of it does have to do with sketchy zombies, but another part is Rocket & Co.'s inability to ignore the whines and just do it. Make "lone wolf" gameplay very hard, make banditry the undesirable path and only used in desperate times (starving/dehydrated), and make sanity a thing. Killing someone, even when they're trying to kill you is not a simple thing on the mind. Add zombies to it and the conditions for insanity rise. TL;DR Bandits complain when something "infringes" on their Easy mode, yet if the same exact thing happens with Heros, nothing is said about "gameplay infringement". Write this on mobile. Tried to break up paragraphs neatly, probably failed. Grammars might be horrid.

Got to be honest, stream sniping isn't much of an accomplishment.

DayZ "Gameplay Suggestion" Bias (Rant)
TheDesigner replied to TheDesigner's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To respond to Salamander: I agree with certain realistic things requiring teamwork, but when you say survivors wouldn't see others as people, I disagree with you. Millions of years of evolution doesn't disappear in a few weeks, even years. All that "every man for himself" is Hollywood. If we are such killers at heart, we never could of advanced this far. Point of this thread isn't to end Banditry, that'd be daft of me. It's to end the play style that DayZ pampers, which is Kill on Sight. -
Fair enough.
-
You're a plague and I won't stop 'till you're gone.
-
Just stop. The trolling is getting very, very old. Don't bullshit any longer that you're multilingual. Proof: http://i.imgur.com/0UfLD0B.png Your first post. How did your grammar degrade so bad since then? I'm getting tired of all the trolls that plague DayZmod and I refuse to go be grumpy somewhere other than the threads that deserve my wrath. There used to be a lot of good content on these forums, but this seems to be all there is that people do. It's fucking old. I don't know how content like this is allowed, but it shouldn't be supported by the community.
-
I foresaw this! I told you... I told you all.. DayZmod is becoming a fertile growing grounds for learning trolls. It's terrifying. I'd like to join you in your grumpy patrol.
-
But dude, you should live your life on the grounds of what I think is normal.. dude.

Telling others what kind of dreams they should and shouldn't be having is a sure sign of being a douche.Sounds harsh.. thats because it is. Nice editing OP, dream about what you want, screw the haters! I dreamed about using my hand in the shape of a pistol as a gun in DayZ once. Even in my dream when I said "pew" it didn't shoot or kill anything. My dreams obey basic laws of physics and common sense..

What Apple said. A book to show you a combination or order in which things need to be done to do something would be cool, but it still should be possible to do things without said book.

I've never been recognized on DayZ. Probably because I play mods and not vanilla. I'll keep telling myself that.

SA OREGON TRAIL STYLE IDEA!!!
TheDesigner replied to TheOldManoftheNorth's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Since there's no official DayZ story, we don't know if its days or months after the infection. I think this idea has been suggested several times and the general consensus is "no". -
A Gun You Never Found Before?
TheDesigner replied to Devon206 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The M137 rocket launcher. Or whatever it's called. -
Comprendo, amigo?

Any, Disturbing things you have, "Witnessed"
TheDesigner replied to Wolfensteinsaurus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Crashes a car on one of those damned stone walls in the middle of fields and the car was full of people in my TS. Needless to say, I got out unscathed because I knew what was coming, but all of them were knocked unconcious. Whilst attempting to drag one away, the car exploded, killing the whole crew except for me. I never drove again. -
Yeah, your character is just in really good shape.

Private George Smith error whenever joining a server
TheDesigner replied to fenixl's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Would these servers possibly be running script checkers that kick you if scripts are detected in you ArmA files? Because I know all Origins run this and some private hives run it. Try removing any "corrupted" files and try again. Now I'm just spit balling here but there really is no reason this should be happening other than that. Your files aren't corrupted (if you've reinstalled DayZ), you have the latest beta patch, and you can join some servers but not others. -
Wouldn't the infected just grab your leg and nibble on it?

July Round-up: "I want the alpha" < "I want the alpha to be good"
TheDesigner replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
It's all part of the scam.. ! /sarcasm What the DayZ Dev team is doing is what more game developers need to do. They actually listen to the community and don't rush their game, even to release it as an alpha. I thought the thread said "I want to alpha". I don't know why, but it made me laugh. -
I played DayZ vanilla on Chernaraus for the longest time, a few months if IIRC. Then I played vanilla DayZ on Lingor when it first came out for a month or two. Both are good and offer different experiences while still keeping DayZ vanilla.

To me, one of DayZ's iconic images is sitting around a campfire at night with some friends and relaxing. When I used to play with a group (Walking Militia), a majority of our time was spent at our campsite waiting for/figuring out what to do. Sometimes it was even to what for night to do raids on the airfield. What would really add to this is 3 "mini-games" I have in mind. All of these could be accessed by sitting down and receiving a scroll menu to choose which "mini-game" to play. 1. Go Fish Simple card game, takes nothing to learn. We already saw that their are cards in game, why not have the ability to play with friends? When sitting down, you'd look at the person you want to ask and scroll your mouse wheel for options on which card in your hand to ask for. Cheating would be disabled. This one speaks for itself so not much explaining. The UI would need work along with it's mechanics, but it'd be a cool feature to add in to remind people that DayZ is also about surviving, not just killing. 2. Counting ammo in a clip/manual reload Rocket seems to be hinting at more realism when it comes to your ammo and not knowing how many bullets you have in a magazine, so this would be a cool "mini-game" to play at a campfire. It would zoom you in to a pile of your clips. You'd empty all your mags after a long day of looting into a pile and would load the empty mags with ammo manually, dragging each bullet to the clip. Time consuming but satisfying and IMO more immersing 3. Cleaning your gun/attachment adding With weapon degradation in DayZ SA, this would be a good way to counter that. You could maybe find extra barrels around Chernaraus to replace a rusty one/broken one from a gunfight. This could also allow you to customize your weapon and add attachments onto it. It could be simplified and just require dragging pieces away from eachother or it could require actual knowledge. Of course engine limitations might make it so these have to be dumbed down/non existent, but so far the coders of DayZ mod, like Razor, have surprised me with the things they are capable of doing, so I won't say they can't do it until they tell me so. Also if someone's already suggested some of these, which I think they have (weapon cleaning/manual loading), my bad. This thread is mostly for the "Go Fish". I did it from mobile too, so be easy on me with spelling errors.

Plus, this is already possible. If you hit someone in the head with a hatchet/machete, they die. It all has to do with user input and skill which is the way it should stay. No "Press "T" to insta-kill". So I guess, in some way, you've already got what you asked for :P. If it isn't good enough, I don't know what to tell you.

What Gews said. It just gives to much power for too little effort.

An axe is just a gun using a different model and animation. So if you want to win fights, aim for the legs, break em, and run around your fallen foe.

Getting Disconnected from Private and Origins Servers
TheDesigner replied to chetubet's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Odd. What beta patch are the servers you are trying to join on? Do check this, don't assume :P.
