    Player animation progression from experience

I agree it should be low priority. Post alpha at the earliest.
  2. Like a lot of other people, I agree that the new animations are a little wonky but I think rocket was going for animations that look like how an average person might handle a weapon and run with it. I am a big fan of the arma 2 animations. Especially the crouch walk animation while holding a primary weapon. It just looks so ominous. To my understanding the arma 2 animations are based on trained soldiers and how they might carry a weapon and move with it. So in real life, with practice comes perfect right? What if you end up surviving for a long time in the zombie apocalypse? You'd get decked out in gear and most likely have a military grade weapon. After carrying that weapon for so long you figure out what works and what doesn't. Maybe you learn that keeping the butt of the weapon at your shoulder is more efficient so you can quickly draw a bead on something if necessary. After a while, you might naturally begin to move and handle weapons like a soldier. I think it would be cool to see your avatars movement animations change to animations similar to how they move in arma 2 after surviving for a long time. For example the jogging with a primary weapon animation from arma 2 (keeping the butt of the weapon at your shoulder) might replace the jogging with a primary from standalone (holding a primary down by the hip) after maybe 10 or 15 days? Maybe more? Even if after say 15 days of surviving, just the animations where your avatar is carrying a primary change back to how they are in arma 2 or similar. And I am only suggesting using current arma 2 animations so that more mo-cap isn't necessary but if the devs are feeling up to it then by all means mo-cap more! Basically, it would visually simulate your experience in handling weapons due to extensive repeated use. I know in real life, i would never attempt to shoot an assault rifle from my hip so i would most likely keep the butt of the rifle knocked at my shoulder. Obviously there would be no mechanical advantage to this or perk for surviving that long. Skill should still be reliant on the player. This would just be a cosmetic change when a player reaches a milestone in their survival experience. It could also be another incentive to try to survive for much longer. Just a thought. Thanks for reading.

    Looking for clan or group

Hello and thanks for checking out my post. I am 24 looking for an experienced 18(ish)+ group or a clan to join. I've played DayZ for about 10 months now and I am very familiar with how the Arma 2 and 3 engines feel (and that *#$%ing action menu ). I used to play with two other people but they have since stopped playing. I haven't played with a disciplined group before but I am a team player and I will listen to directions if needed. My favorite type of weapons is assault rifles but I also have the patience for sniping/ranging targets and over-watch. I have skype, teamspeak, a decent sense of humor, and a good machine to run the game. Edit: The mods I play are mostly vanilla, and overwatch, but I would try others. Thanks again for looking. - Y. Cornelius
  4. oh man i lost it at his face

    Your First Time Playing DayZ

1st time: spawn in. zombie aggros. swim around for a while. realize zombies swim too. go back to shore. get hit at some point by zombie. bleed to death heading into the treeline north of kamenka. clueless how i died. zombies were scary. i tried very hard not to aggro. i crawled most of the way from stary to nw airfield once. yelled friendly or trusted too easily, and got shot a lot.

    Rezzed - June 2013 - Developer Session

I totally agree with you and don't get me wrong, I never said I didn't like the idea. It reminds me of the movie American Psycho where christian bale is killing the guy with an axe and "too hip to be square" is playing in the background. It adds a further darkness to the scene in a facetious way. Like it makes you think "thats fucked up/awful/etc." but almost laugh because "too hip to be square" is setting the mood. It just seems like a small immersion breaker due to the fact that most people would worry about their own survival rather than broadcast music to listeners who may not exist. I would still vote for it every time, but this will always be in the back of my mind. Just my .02.

radios are a really cool addition to the game as far as communication goes. however, i am just curious who will be broadcasting music during the zombie apocalypse? i mean, is it really plausible?
  9. ok, well... if you hear someone yelling "friendly" over direct, then its me.
  10. Since I began playing DayZ, I wondered whether I could get properly equipped for an initial outing from my own home in a zombie apocalypse. I have the day off from work today and I decided to actually scavenge my own home to see if I could put a decent load out together. Plus I thought this might be a fun thread to make on this forum. This has probably been done before but I am just having fun. Feel free to participate and post pictures of your "starting gear" you looted from your home. Do not cheat and go buy things to make a good load out. Only use things already in your own home. (I doubt anyone actually would for only this purpose but yea just to be clear) I'll start: Here is some basic gear I thought would be useful. I figured less is more since I may be travelling on foot quite a lot so I packed very light. - Motorcycle helmet. For obvious reasons although it may get hot at times. - Shovel. Primary zombie killer. Go for the neck/head. No gun spawns in my home unfortunately. :( - Deodorant. For anti chaffing since I wouldn't be showering or changing clothes often. - Baseball hat. Just in case, and its light weight. - Trail mix. Ready to eat. - 1/2 Gallon water jug. - Flat-head screw driver. Tool/alternative weapon. - Phillips screw driver. Tool/alternative weapon. - 1/4" Socket wrench set. - Hammer. Tool/alternative weapon. - Crow bar. Tool/alternative weapon. - Hatchet. Tool/alternative weapon. - Swiss army knife. (Scissors, 2" blade, nail file) - Adjustable pliers. - Can opener. - Sunglasses. - Cigarette lighter. Fuck it, I might start smoking again in the zombie apocalypse but this would primarily be used as a fire starter. - Eye drops. I can't compromise my vision. Clothes I would wear and my backpack. - Backpack. To carry the above items. - Drawstring bag. Lightweight bag in case I need more room. Possibly designated for medical supplies. - Mechanix gloves. I wear these a lot when I work on my car simply for when I bust my knuckles on something. Not necessarily for reduction of pain, but so I don't draw blood somehow. - Running shoes. I didn't have hiking boots so running shoes will have to do. Again I am thinking about weight and comfort. I will do a lot of running. - Blue jeans. I feel these are the best bet for leg protection against bites (aside from leather, kevlar, etc. which I don't have). - Long-sleeve button-down shirt. I am thinking in layers. - Canvas work jacket. For bite protection. Collar popped for a little extra neck coverage. A few extra things that aren't in the pictures: - 2 Pair of shin-high socks. - 2 Boxer briefs. - 2 Under shirts. - Basketball shorts. In case I actually get to relax somewhere. - Antibacterial cream. - Toilet paper. - Anti-inflammatory pills. And everything when it's put together: Depending on the condition of the streets, I may or may not take my car since I have a v8 mustang with exhaust. It may be counter productive due to the loud exhaust but I just finished a big tune-up on it so it may be useful to have a fast car.
  11. My only complaint with 1.7.7 is the infection. I used a vehicle to search for 7 hours straight for antibiotics and the only ones I found were in someone's tent. I checked all of the hospitals multiple times. Antibiotics are not that scarce in real life. Either lower the chance of infection, or increase antibiotic spawn rates.
