How will grass be made into an advantage in the SA?
themurdertrain posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Grass is drawn client side, 50m away from your character in all directions. Currently if someone snipes at you from greater than 50m and you go prone while they stand, you are at a significant disadvantage. The lack of a line of sight due to the grass being in your face, while they can clearly see some or all of your body even as close as 50-75m away, the player who stands up to take a shot is more likely to win the fight than the player who stays prone. Look at how easy it is to see someone in a ghille suit from a distance than it is close up and you'll understand my point. Fire a shot at people crossing a field, and watch how easy it is to see them crawling on a flat texture while they can barely see past their hands. Regardless of everything else, putting giving yourself a lower profile is the first thing you do while being shot at. The second is identify the target and return fire if possible. It's psychologically ingrained in most people to get down when you're being shot at, but in the current game that will just make you an easier target.- 35 replies

Why have I yet to see a player named Lance Armstrong rolling around on a bike handing out bloodbags?

Totally didn't see that! I needed to look harder, my bad! -
I've always wondered why there are so many military topographical maps lying around in the world. At most, two people in a platoon will have one when going into the field, yet they are littered everywhere. Once you find a map you're good to go. The world is open for you. Even if you're very experienced and know your landmarks, the map will still help. So here is my suggestion, there are multiple map types. The lowest, being something along the lines of a scribbled map written with great haste on a spare sheet of paper. It isn't to scale, but it gives you a general idea of which way to go. The next map up would be a travelers map, normally known as road maps. It would give greater detail, but it wouldn't give out a six digit grid like our current map does. The military grade topographical map would be the map we use now, with all of it's features. So as an idea... Scribbled maps are partial and will not show all of the world, only where they have "been", much like the scribbled areas are filled in when the Fog of War is removed. They will spawn just about anywhere, and will not be any less common than the current maps. The road map will most likely be in just about every civilian car, and spawn in gas stations and supermarkets as well, while spawning elsewhere rarely. The military map is limited to military vehicles and spawns only, and should not be found three to a pile in a grocery store such as it is right now.

This is more to simulate the lack of the map, and the player drawing it as he goes, rather than what you just said.

Am I correct when I say we're no longer going to have a HUD in the SA?
-
I'd rather not see them at all. They're kind of a distraction. Granted hipshots are necessary sometimes, but even with that just aiming in the general direction of the enemy works. All too often you can zoom without using iron sights and turn a Lee Enfield into a DMR for PvP, just because it's almost 100% accurate to the crosshair and the player zoom offers better visibility than ADS with a Lee Enfield. I'm for zero HUD in general.

DayZ, I am dissapoint.

I mean doping is when you store some of your blood during training, have all but the red blood cells extracted, then reintroduced into your system during a competition. If it was Barry Bonds we were taking about, the Epi makes a lot of sense. lol. -

I haven't done this because I never run into bikes on the private hive I play on. -
Sick of spending hours to be killed by hackers? Tired of crappy admins? Forget all that and join our server!
themurdertrain replied to 2gunz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Best server I've played on ever. The admins care, there hasn't been a hacker in the month and a half I've been on there. There's bandits, heros, and players who group together and wage small battles against eachother. Get whitelisted, and get playing. -
Tell me your stupidest death stories...
themurdertrain replied to Matteh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was fully kitted out. MK48, DMR, Ghille, and almost every tool. I check something on skype real quick, and come back into the game. I tried to send a message to help a bambi with a question, and I must have hit enter twice because I was ejected from the truck we were driving in and died instantly. My gear was saved, and I spawned within walking distance of a fully repaired and fueled heli right outside of BZ but still a stupid death. -
And a group could find an ANCD and put commsec into their radios to create a private net. I like the idea of radios. A lot.

encourage people playing hero-style by giving ability to give yourself a bloodtransfusion
themurdertrain replied to com1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think there needs to be a better incentive to being a Hero versus a bandit, as right now it's much easier to just kill people and take their things than to heal them to run slightly faster. -
I do think the multiple step process is annoying to log out of. However I'm pretty sure once you click abort you're out of the game, the rest of it is exiting the client.

This actually fixes a lot of issues, such as people who server hop from loot spawns, and the times where you clear the barracks and someone spawns in behind you then proceeds to blow your spine out of your body. I do not agree for cities, but for areas such as the airfields and any other high loot areas in the future I think this is a great idea. Sure, you can still server hop but you'd have to leave the NWAF AO and sneak back into the barracks, from outside the gates.

The main issue this noise presents itself is when using Skype with friends mostly when PTT isn't being used. Hearing 3-6 people broadcasting the same UAV noise you get to hear right now is pretty awesome.

Weaponry that makes sense given the setting
themurdertrain replied to 1clash1's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I like to imagine that the US Military was sent to assist and aid in the infection. We're all over the world, doing all kinds of humanitarian missions. You just never hear anything about the good we do. It makes sense that there would be a number of NATO weapons, with M4s and M9s being the most common, all the way down to M107s being the rarest. -
My first Death, quad death with grenade! Share you stories!
themurdertrain replied to BlackNRed_Cobra's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I had a ghille suit, a MK48, DMR, and all the supplies necessary to make it on my own. I was riding in my groups truck as a passenger while we were hunting for Helis and some crash sites in a circle around the middle of the map. I had to alt tab for something. When I came back I must of middle moused on accident. I hit enter twice on accident while side chatting a bambi to help him, and I dove from the vehicle. I imagine in my head that my ghille suit got stuck on the door handle of the truck, and I was quickly swept beneath the wheels. So there it was, my first death as a result of the eject button. What was great was the server had just reset and I spawned right outside of BZ to see a perfect, fully repaired heli, just sitting 150m in front of me. Needless to say mission acomplished, I traded a ghille for a full-working heli. Good deal I'd say. -
Is there really such thing as a survivor & bandit anymore?
themurdertrain replied to Mudpuppy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Anything within 1km of a city, or in sight of the coast in general, is pretty much a full on PvP warzone on the server I play on. I stick to the North, and the only city I will visit is BZ because everything is so spaced out there loot wise, the chances of seeing someone before they see you is pretty significant and let's you either evade or attack depending on the odds. The only issue is the fields that surround it make for great sniper spots, so I usually clear the sniper spots before I move into the city. -

There's a lot of times where it dissolves into group versus group, instead of bandits. I just started playing with a group. We currently have two trucks, and the last I checked a Heli. I met them, and eventually joined, because they didn't KoS me. I had the high ground on them with a MK48 ready to go, and they wouldn't of known what hit them until they were dead. I asked if they were friendly, they said they were, and I took a chance. Do I KoS? No, not usually. I don't wait for people to shoot me, I kind of get the feel for them. If I see someone using the halos to track me, I will kill them before they get within 800m of me. If someone has the bandit skin, I'll kill them on sight because more than likely they will do the same to me. I won't go out of my way, or compromise myself beyond the reasonable risk of sniping someone to kill them, but if they are within 400m of my MK48 or 800 of my DMR I will take them out. -
Take On Helicopters (DayZ SA) flying adjustments!
themurdertrain replied to finkone's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Today I flew my first heli. I found it randomly after falling out of a truck. Pretty epic way to go. Worked out great because we were heli hunting after a reset anyway, but here's my point. I never flew a heli in this game before. I opened the menu real quick and went over the basic keys, just enough to get from point A to B, and I was able to fly just fine without any trouble. I hate flying anything in games, and very rarely ever do. But I was able to pull this off no problem. It might be too easy. -
The bandit skin is punishment enough. If you have the bandit skin, the towel over your face won't stop a bullet. I KoS people with that skin whenever it is safe for me to do so, simply because they've obviously earned it. Yes, you might have it from self-defense related bugs, but fact of the matter is if you wait to ask them you're all ready dead.

Try going from first person to third person, it fixed it for me before. -
Going up North is popular on the server I play on, and I find myself a lot of times getting Zombies, but no loot. However nothing spawning, that's pretty odd and you should probably notify the admin.
