New player just can't get into this game...
Mr Mouse replied to Invrlose's topic in New Player Discussion
Haven't the development team suggested that they would never (or highly unlikely) add a tutorial, as it breaks the whole immersion of not knowing what you're supposed to do? The objectives are simple: scavenge for food, water and other supplies and stay alive. What you decide to do around those objectives is entirely up to you. -
Look again, it probably says "up to 1mb/s". There's the catch; every company does the same.

Currently worth buying Arma 2 to play DayZ?
Mr Mouse replied to King Mustard's topic in New Player Discussion
£8.50 for three games. Only you will know whether that's good value for money or not. -
There's not a great deal to do in DayZ in the grand scheme of things, and Rocket has said himself that they are trying to rectify this in Standalone so that you can work together to complete tasks, instead of opting to kill other people through boredom. Whether it works or not remains to be seen, but I for one hope it does. Interactivity is what makes this game great - there's no game like it when it does interactivity and social interaction right. If Standalone doesn't address the current issues, I might look elsewhere. We'll see how it develops.

Yep, Rocket said himself that many people will be disappointed if they jump the gun and buy/participate in DayZ Standalone Alpha. Alpha is for the real and true fans who want to help the game progress. If people want DayZ as a polished game, wait for the full release. However if you want to be a part of the game's development, then jump into Alpha and help with bug finding and the adding, removal and tweaking of features.

Yes, that's the biggest change. Server architecture, tightening of security and turning an FPS game into an MMO. People are judging the game on aesthetics alone, which only highlights the mentality of today's modern gamers. Many YouTube comments revolve around things like: "Bad graphics = bad game." It really doesn't. Most things that you currently see are place holders, the zombie hits aren't synchronised yet, and there's still a ton of work to be done. Making the DayZ experience a fantastic experience for all is of far greater importance than the game's aesthetics. Simple design changes can be made on the fly, so talking about how the game looks is of no real importance right now.

Then they'd kill you for your share of the antibiotics.

I think the adult missed the joke.

There will be hardly any cars and a ton of motorcycle helmets, because hey, that's what we'd find in real life if an apocalypse were to happen. Right?

Will Standalone be released this month?
Mr Mouse replied to poodude28 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can't see it being this month, as E3 is Monday and they will surely get feedback from that event which they'll take away. Then they'll continue to tweak things in-house, and the streamers haven't even got their hands on it yet. Streamers should get their hands on it fairly soon, but as for people being able to buy DayZ in alpha state, you're looking at a good few months in my opinion. However, like everyone else, nobody knows any specifics, so it's all guesswork. -
Don't try and get spoonfed too much. Your initial steps into DayZ are often the most rewarding - not knowing what to do and where to go. When you've figured everything out, you'll wish that you could relive your old ways once again.

Yep, there won't be any form of modding for a long time. This is unconfirmed and is only my opinion, but it's based on what's been said by Rocket. Hacking has been a major problem in the mod, so opening up the Standalone on release/early in the games life for modders risks ruining a project before it's even got going. They will need to keep security tight, let the community grow, and then possibly release modding tools. I don't foresee that in the near future and it could take a hell of a long time until they are satisfied that they can deal with any possible repercussion of allowing people to mod the game.

Gamers of today are in a very privileged position. I'm old enough to remember when on-line games didn't exist, and the ones that tried were poor at best. So many people moan that they are playing an alpha version of a game and that the game is filled with bugs; they miss the point. You're privileged to be able to play the alpha/beta version of the game that you adore, so that you can help construct the game and move it forward. You're able to say what doesn't work, and what you would like to be added. You're able to spot bugs so that they get ironed out before launch. Cherish and respect that. I remember the days when you strolled to the local shop and simply had to search through a variety of games in cardboard boxes on the shelves, in the hope that your chosen game was good and not riddled with bugs; what you saw was what you got. When DayZ is released and you have the chance of purchasing it at a low cost, don't moan about the bugs and don't moan about the lack of features. Suggest ways in which the game can grow, so that we can all enjoy a better experience. And finally, be patient; a beta version of the game will not be the finished product. MANY more features will be added in due course. However, having said all of that, roll on the /alpha/beta release of DayZ and watch a ton of people moan, and moan, and moan. Kids are very lucky yet they abuse many privileges that us older games didn't have years ago.

You owe him a bite to eat, so he came for the steaks. Remember, you promised?

No DevBlog this week but here is some screens
Mr Mouse replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
You're right that thinks look a little bit 'off', but we've not seen any of the weather effects. Cold damp days with fog could be very atmospheric. Thunder storms could bring the horror factor. As of right now, I've only seen bright sunny days, with increased saturation on buildings and objects. While it looks out of place for a post apocalyptic game, if a zombie apocalypse did occur, the weather wouldn't drastically change - we would still have bright sunny days, as well as dismal, overcast days. I would wait until the weather can be showcased publicly, so that we get a better feel of atmospherics. -
The problem with holding off for the release is that competition is around the corner. It might not effect anything at the end of the day, but the competition wasn't here before, when DayZ emerged as a mod. DayZ's popularity has encouraged others to do the same. Games like Dead State, Dying Light and State of Decay among others will all add their unique touch to the genre, this year and next, adding some form of competition. You're right, people do want these type of games now, and the more that appear, the more fragmented the community. DayZ will have plenty of sales though I'm sure; no need to worry about that.

Did anyone catch the Release date?
Mr Mouse replied to Oliver Riedel's topic in New Player Discussion
There is no release date. Do you think you would have to go onto a forum and ask the community if it had been announced? If it indeed had been announced, a simple Google search would give you all the information you'd need. -

This is true. If the game wants to revolve around zombies, then zombies need to ALWAYS be a threat. Even if it's a threat over time, i.e taking a while to break through your barricade. If they aren't a constant threat, then it's simply a large scale generic PvP game that happens to feature roaming zombies. -

It's not a "false impression" though; it's an opinion based on what I've witnessed throughout the communities spanning various gaming genres, having played consoles since the Audio Sonic Pong machines. You see the same whining and bitching everywhere. You might have a different opinion, but it's certainly not a "false impression." Regardless, my comment was aimed at gaming as a whole, not the DayZ mod or forum posters. -

Kids of today are simply spoilt brats, with the mentality of "NOW, NOW, NOW!" -
Have you: " Run both ArmA 2 and ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead once to complete installation." ? If you've done the above, DayZ Commander gives silly errors sometimes. Try rebooting and trying to install the mod again.

Survivor Gamez 3 May 25th 9pm GMT (featuring Matt Lightfoot)
Mr Mouse replied to Fraggle (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The staff were apparently NPC's who wouldn't shoot players at a distance but would engage if the player was up close. I understand that it's role-play to perhaps include them as army personnel at the base, but what purpose did they really serve? REALLY? You have to ask yourselves the following question: if they weren't there, would the event have suffered? No. It almost seemed as though the staff needed a role and wanted to be involved. If you're of no use to anyone, why the hell are you on a server that is staging a competition, simply getting in the way of ACTUAL competitors? I wasn't involved and have no affiliation for any player who competed. I watched the event however, and those were my thoughts after watching. -
