What is the point of this game now?
Mr Mouse replied to LordHussyPants's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Gear paranoia is making you bored. Seek medical assistance immediately. -
Agree with DayZ Commander being key for me. Bought Combined Operations last week. Launch Arma 2 and Launch Arrowhead (both until the first options screen), one after the other. Install DayZ Commander, launch it, and update everything under the update menu - Arma 2 and DayZ mod. Double clicked a server and I was playing DayZ. I've had no problem during install and no problems since; so much so that I find it weird why so many are having problems installing the game. Good luck!

Can I run Dayz with a single core processor?
Mr Mouse replied to zkiller96's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You can run the game on a dual core with the right settings and edited config files, with 30+ fps in woods. Single core would be tricky, and as you can imagine, the fps would be quite low. It could work but would probably be a frustrating experience. -
No date has been confirmed. It's anyone's guess.

Hoping for a December dev report soon. Does anyone know when the November dev report was released? At the end of November, or at the start or December, or...? Hopefully it's not too long until some new information is released. Thanks.

New Player considering DayZ, what are your opinions?
Mr Mouse replied to Bigrayne's topic in New Player Discussion
You should never have given your money to a shoddy game development, and nobody ever should. As it currently stands, WarZ deserves little attention and no money from consumers, hence it's removal from Steam and abuse from gaming critics worldwide. A rip off and a total failure of a game. -
There are roughly 62 million people living in the UK - 1,000 people would never meet each other, plus as mentioned, the lag would be horrible among other things.
-
This really. From what I've heard about the standalone from Rocket himself, there will be many ways to set up and build your own bases, including possible underground instances where you actively group up with other players. Plus there will be a variety of clothes to wear and customisations for your character, as well as numerous other buildings to explore. Plus the controls and UI will be simplified for all. They want to add plenty more aspects to the game, so standalone is your best bet at a proper review. As stated, the reviewer is simply reviewing a mod like a polished standalone game, which it's far from being, hence why the gripes are poor and severely flawed.

Why do you complain about Snipers and Bandits?
Mr Mouse replied to Marvel.Jane's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sniper hate comes from not seeing your enemy; the same was said about snipers in many of the wars during the last century, however, if you have a sniper in your squad pinning the enemy down, it's an extremely useful asset that many real life soldiers would be accepting to have. -
One huge flaw in this review: You're reviewing it as if it's a finished game, complete with UI, controls, character customization and gear options made exclusively for it. All in game options were made for Arma 2, as a war simulation game. The mod was created later and pretty much fits over the top of it, hence why there's no character customisation etc. All of these bits and bobs will be included in the standalone release over time however. Overall you miss the point of 'the game', hugely. It's an alpha mod. The tag line pretty much sums it up - "This is your story." It's an open sandbox mod with no actual goals. You simply play to survive and do whatever you want. It's what you make of it. You've failed to grasp what this mod is about, so your best bet is to look elsewhere This probably includes the standalone release too.

Having posted most of this information in another topic, I have chopped it down to the information displayed below: I've had DayZ since Christmas, having bought the 50% offer from Steam. My knowledge of actually playing the game is at noob level, but my knowledge of the game is fairly high after watching pretty much all the Youtube videos I could find; weeks upon weeks. I have only died once since purchase and would very much like some friends to roam around with, although I know not to trust anyone. My blood is low after a few zombie attacks, and I desperately need blood - my screen is grey. I'm not new to the FPS genre itself, having represented my country at international gaming tournaments in the past (mainly high level Return to Castle Wolfenstein gamer back in the day), but I am new to the game. I like roaming around on my own but I feel I'd get slightly more out of the experience by sticking with a few buddies. As I'll probably die soon due to being low on blood, I'll be a fresh spawn looking for a good time (that sounded like a lonely hearts column). Basic information: 29 year old male, based in the UK. Will be buying the standalone upon release to carry on the adventure. I'll try and respond soon, but quite busy with a few real life projects. Thanks.

My knowledge of actually playing the game is at noob level, but my knowledge of the game is fairly high after watching pretty much all the Youtube videos I could find; weeks upon weeks. I have only died once since purchase and am kitted out with food, drink, bandages assault rifle, hunting rifle, morphine, blood packs...the lot, yet have no in game friends; hence I would very much like some friends to roam around with, although I know not to trust anyone. I use DayZ Commander and the number of servers is quite endless, even after applying filters. I know people won't state their favourite servers here in case hackers jump on them, but any information, even via PM, would be most welcome. I'll probably die soon due to being low on blood, therefore I'll be a fresh spawn looking for a good time (that sounded like a lonely hearts column). Thanks.

I think the problem lies with how he was considering releasing the game. As far as I was aware (things might have changed) he said they were considering simply getting the game out there and adding onto it here and there over time. Now that (the game that will not be mentioned) released an 'alpha' game to the public, flopping tremendously, things might have changed over at DayZ headquarters; they might be making sure that the game has more polished aspects and added features before the game is released. You're right though, what I'm saying could be nonsense, and the decision could be purely based around profit. I'm no mind reader.
-
Could they be delaying the launch due to WarZ getting absolutely slated in the various internet media? Anyone who knows what they're on about knows the difference between the two games, but perhaps the general public are still seething, and DayZ is waiting in the shadows for things to calm down. The name is similar, so uninformed folk might think DayZ is another WarZ, when we all know it's very much the opposite. WarZ has slightly ruined the genres reputation with their big public mess and I imagine Rocket and co aren't too happy. It''s put a scar on the genre, unnecessarily. Anyway, all assumptions.

Will this work on Hughes Net?
Mr Mouse replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
One example: http://www.speedtest.net/ -
You have a couple of options instead of not bothering. You could play low population servers, to hunt and scavenge on your own, or play on more populated servers but being careful around major cities (even going as far as avoiding them if you prefer). I've been playing for four days now, dying once, and encountering the odd person here and there. With the size of the map, you only encounter players if you're silly to venture into major cities, or just silly in general. Stick to the hills, farmhouses, deer stands and smaller towns.
-
I'd have to agree with this. From what I've heard about the standalone, they're very much looking to strip confusion out of the game and simplify things, which includes interface UI and inventory etc. I'm expecting something far more streamlined and easy on the eye, but I guess only time will tell.

Looking for other players/a server (UK or somewhat close to that zone)
Mr Mouse replied to AR700SAW's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds good mate, add me on Steam with username BunnyRabbit (I have a picture of a black and white rabbit as the avatar). I'll try and get online later, but currently making a Saturday curry, complete with beers. Priorities and all that! -
Is the Standalone likely to give better performance?
Mr Mouse replied to oldenworld's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It does sound promising. I have quite an old rig but on some servers I'm blessed with 30fps in woods, and down to high teens/mid twenties for cities; again, this is server based and fluctuates. I very much live in hope that optimisation will increase (it has to if it wants to maximise sales and player base for starters) come the standalone. I know I'll need a new computer at some stage, but hopefully I get far greater fps out of the standalone. I pray. -
Okay, well I've added your Steam username and an invitation has been sent.

What do I need to make DayZ run smoother?
Mr Mouse replied to Gravitee's topic in New Player Discussion
Like the initial poster, the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, or GMA, are integrated graphics, hence the low performance. It seems like a lot of you are trying to run the game on your standard run-of-the-mill family laptops which is always going to be a struggle. -

That's integrated graphics right? That's one of your problems right there. -
New to game - looking for a few friends
Mr Mouse replied to Mr Mouse's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Depends on your financial situation though as I'll be buying the standalone on release too. Also, as you've pointed out, nobody knows when the standalone is going to be released, and as I currently have free time around the festive period I thought I'd take the plunge. Thanks for your concern though. -
This is true - you get no key. Just purchase the game off Steam and it gets added to your library. Download DayZ Commander, install updates and mod from there. Find a server and it launches. No key was needed.

I've been waiting for the standalone for some time now, and debated whether or not to by the games+mod over the festive season, but at £12 it was a 'no brainer', for me anyway. Twelve quid isn't much, even if it turns out to be for one month. I've wanted it for some time and I'm very happy that I have it. Also, I've heard Rocket say that they aren't looking to sell the standalone for a ridiculous amount of money on release, so buying both shouldn't cost too much. I could have waited for the standalone, and another time I may well have done, but I took the plunge at 50% off.
