New player just can't get into this game...
Mr Mouse replied to Invrlose's topic in New Player Discussion
Haven't the development team suggested that they would never (or highly unlikely) add a tutorial, as it breaks the whole immersion of not knowing what you're supposed to do? The objectives are simple: scavenge for food, water and other supplies and stay alive. What you decide to do around those objectives is entirely up to you. -
Look again, it probably says "up to 1mb/s". There's the catch; every company does the same.

Currently worth buying Arma 2 to play DayZ?
Mr Mouse replied to King Mustard's topic in New Player Discussion
£8.50 for three games. Only you will know whether that's good value for money or not. -
There's not a great deal to do in DayZ in the grand scheme of things, and Rocket has said himself that they are trying to rectify this in Standalone so that you can work together to complete tasks, instead of opting to kill other people through boredom. Whether it works or not remains to be seen, but I for one hope it does. Interactivity is what makes this game great - there's no game like it when it does interactivity and social interaction right. If Standalone doesn't address the current issues, I might look elsewhere. We'll see how it develops.

Yep, Rocket said himself that many people will be disappointed if they jump the gun and buy/participate in DayZ Standalone Alpha. Alpha is for the real and true fans who want to help the game progress. If people want DayZ as a polished game, wait for the full release. However if you want to be a part of the game's development, then jump into Alpha and help with bug finding and the adding, removal and tweaking of features.

Yes, that's the biggest change. Server architecture, tightening of security and turning an FPS game into an MMO. People are judging the game on aesthetics alone, which only highlights the mentality of today's modern gamers. Many YouTube comments revolve around things like: "Bad graphics = bad game." It really doesn't. Most things that you currently see are place holders, the zombie hits aren't synchronised yet, and there's still a ton of work to be done. Making the DayZ experience a fantastic experience for all is of far greater importance than the game's aesthetics. Simple design changes can be made on the fly, so talking about how the game looks is of no real importance right now.

Then they'd kill you for your share of the antibiotics.

I think the adult missed the joke.

There will be hardly any cars and a ton of motorcycle helmets, because hey, that's what we'd find in real life if an apocalypse were to happen. Right?

Will Standalone be released this month?
Mr Mouse replied to poodude28 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can't see it being this month, as E3 is Monday and they will surely get feedback from that event which they'll take away. Then they'll continue to tweak things in-house, and the streamers haven't even got their hands on it yet. Streamers should get their hands on it fairly soon, but as for people being able to buy DayZ in alpha state, you're looking at a good few months in my opinion. However, like everyone else, nobody knows any specifics, so it's all guesswork. -
Don't try and get spoonfed too much. Your initial steps into DayZ are often the most rewarding - not knowing what to do and where to go. When you've figured everything out, you'll wish that you could relive your old ways once again.

Yep, there won't be any form of modding for a long time. This is unconfirmed and is only my opinion, but it's based on what's been said by Rocket. Hacking has been a major problem in the mod, so opening up the Standalone on release/early in the games life for modders risks ruining a project before it's even got going. They will need to keep security tight, let the community grow, and then possibly release modding tools. I don't foresee that in the near future and it could take a hell of a long time until they are satisfied that they can deal with any possible repercussion of allowing people to mod the game.

Gamers of today are in a very privileged position. I'm old enough to remember when on-line games didn't exist, and the ones that tried were poor at best. So many people moan that they are playing an alpha version of a game and that the game is filled with bugs; they miss the point. You're privileged to be able to play the alpha/beta version of the game that you adore, so that you can help construct the game and move it forward. You're able to say what doesn't work, and what you would like to be added. You're able to spot bugs so that they get ironed out before launch. Cherish and respect that. I remember the days when you strolled to the local shop and simply had to search through a variety of games in cardboard boxes on the shelves, in the hope that your chosen game was good and not riddled with bugs; what you saw was what you got. When DayZ is released and you have the chance of purchasing it at a low cost, don't moan about the bugs and don't moan about the lack of features. Suggest ways in which the game can grow, so that we can all enjoy a better experience. And finally, be patient; a beta version of the game will not be the finished product. MANY more features will be added in due course. However, having said all of that, roll on the /alpha/beta release of DayZ and watch a ton of people moan, and moan, and moan. Kids are very lucky yet they abuse many privileges that us older games didn't have years ago.

You owe him a bite to eat, so he came for the steaks. Remember, you promised?

No DevBlog this week but here is some screens
Mr Mouse replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
You're right that thinks look a little bit 'off', but we've not seen any of the weather effects. Cold damp days with fog could be very atmospheric. Thunder storms could bring the horror factor. As of right now, I've only seen bright sunny days, with increased saturation on buildings and objects. While it looks out of place for a post apocalyptic game, if a zombie apocalypse did occur, the weather wouldn't drastically change - we would still have bright sunny days, as well as dismal, overcast days. I would wait until the weather can be showcased publicly, so that we get a better feel of atmospherics.
