Lost characters, scripters, and ALT-F4 still exist...
angelomnipotent replied to lazy2guns's topic in General Discussion
I can appreciate it being an alpha. I'm fine with characters disappearing, loot not working, falling through the floor, combat loggers etc. But when the game was delayed for over 12 months specifically to write the architecture in place that was purposely built to stop hackers from doing things so simple as scripting? C'mon. The hacks in other games like WoW, CoD, Battlefield, they're intricate bits of kit that don't just write a simple script that the server accepts through a wide open back door. If these hackers were really going out of their way to write the software to do this kind of thing, that's one thing, but something as simple as a script? I'm not going to rant about how I've wasted my money, because I know it was money well spent and I will continue to support this game. However that doesn't mean that I'm not disappointed. The game was delayed for so long due to measures taken to avoid this kind of thing, yet less than 24 hours later hackers are out in force. -

Why do you use 3rd person?
angelomnipotent replied to landfish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I would love to use First Person, but the FoV is stuck at some god-awful low number, and I'm a person who gets motion sickness if the FoV in a game is less than 85. Yes, you can edit the FoV in the game files, but that messed up the in-game scope accuracy. I also know that you can lock your zoom-out if you double tap the - key, but aiming down sight on an optics-free gun takes up 2/3 of your screen with silly outstretched arms. So, I'm forced to use 3rd person to get an FoV that doesn't make me puke. So basically, I would use and prefer First Person if it wasn't coded like ass. -

is Sacriel becoming a bully?
angelomnipotent replied to daze23's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I admit I have some interesting views on things, and I know a lot of people probably won't see things in the same light and that's perfectly fine. I never once said it was okay, just saying that's the way it is. Nothing about that makes it right in any regard. And yeah perhaps I got a little uppity about the apology business and the whole subject of war, but that's because I've lost several close friends who were serving over in Afghanistan, so it hits home quite a bit. Besides all of this is going off on a tangent in the wrong kind of direction and about a differing subject, so its best to leave it there. -

The Geneva convention, in my opinion, is something for the political chess players to hide behind. Just because they put "official" rules for war doesn't make it any less brutal, but it allows the people behind the scenes to still see it as a game when they're not the ones being the pawns. They don't realise that the terrorists we're currently fighting don't think anything of the rules that were concocted by the first world, and that our troops are getting slaughtered because of it. By what I have heard here, I do admit that I thought Sacriel mentioning the Geneva convention was in extreme bad taste. I didn't actually watch it myself, but after hearing what he said, I frankly think of it as highly disrespectful to the people who are currently out fighting right now. What he said to that guy is probably what some of the al qaeda says to one of the UK/Canadian/Aussie/US/etc. troops he comes across right before he tries to blow his head off. It might be taking it to an extreme, but we all have to think about what we say before we say it. With that in mind, if Chris is actually reading this (or if Shannon/Oshi could pass this on), then yeah perhaps he does owe his viewers an apology for that one thing, but only due to the unintentional impact it had with regards to people serving right now. However thats just my personal opinion. It still doesn't make me like him any less as a player and an entertainer though. Some of the "best" humans that have been on this planet, Mother Theresa, Ghandi, etc have all slipped up, so to expect a regular guy to be perfect just because you're watching his stream is rather far-fetched. As for your other comment about what people value as entertainment, I think you'll find an equal amount of people would want to see a pitbull kill a chihuahua as two pitbulls. That's why slaves were pitted against Gladiators just as often if not moreso than two prized fighters squaring off. Even then it wasn't to the death - Gladiators were way too valuable; slaves were there to provide the gore people wanted. Violence is in nature, and a way to release frustration so it doesn't hinder your own survival. Go watch a nature documentary about a pack of wolves or a pride of lions, and watch how much random violence happens between animals who work together. The only difference between us and them is the fact that we choose not to, most of the time. It's why violent movies and video games sell so well; it's an outlet without having to do it yourself. I never said I believe it to be right, but we don't all have to enjoy the truth. -

It's less of a gaming culture that has suddenly appeared and more of an extension of what was already there. Call of Duty was originally PC only, so was Battlefield, and the players back then were exactly the same, just a considerably smaller number. "Gamers" used to be a smaller selection of the human race, and I can guarantee that teabagging and spawn camping/base raping was there and making gaming lives hell waaaaay before Halo was around. Now? Everyone is a gamer. From Angry Birds on a phone to Hardcore professional gamers. Nearly everyone has a console in the living room, and a gaming PC isn't such a rare beast anymore. It's just a case of a larger proportion of the human race has access to gaming, not that any mindset has really changed when it comes to competitive play. You think it's a modern thing where people just want to go around killing people for the fun of it? Think back to ancient Rome and Greece, their gladiatorial bloodbaths that make violent videogames look like childsplay. The Irish would play a 'game' before a battle that we call Murderball. They would cut off the head of a slave and play a very football-like game with the head in front of the enemy to lower their morale. If the 'ball' got too damage, they would just kill another slave. They would actually have fun doing so. It's human nature to be ahead of your fellow man, to prove that your genes are the best to carry forward into a new generation. It's human nature to go out and do what is above necessary to get recognition that you can be the best multiple times, even if the situation makes it unfair to the other people. That's why competition has always been around, and DayZ is no exception when it comes to this competition. -

Not to belittle you, but have you even seen the skill level of the average player? Their skill is a lot lower than you think. Probably over half of the people who play DayZ had never even touched the ArmA engine before, don't really understand bullet ballistics, and it shows. There was a reason that the average survival time after the April coast bean wars never went above an hour. Also a reason why there's hundreds of people streaming DayZ, and only a handful are worth watching. I do agree that sometimes he's below average. The other night he didn't see a crashed chopper until he was on top of it, and it was actually in his screen view for a good 15+ seconds before he even spotted it, lol. The 'average' player however doesn't think about flanks, doesn't think about teammates positioning, formations, skylining or merging your silhouette with a piece of terrain, doesn't think about how they were seen or know the importance of FoV, doesn't realise that if you load an SD mag into a normal M4A1 you'll be hitting above your ironsights <300m because it's a lower density round, or that if you zoom in with a DMR the zeroing changes. They just think it's a bug and keep firing. I've seen some 'average' players think that a ghille suit is still good camo for the rooftops of cherno. (I kid you not). If you haven't done any of those things after your first few weeks of playing, then you're above this 'average' you're talking about. I can almost guarantee that most players who post frequently on these forums, and care enough about the game to actually do so, are most likely above the 'average'. Sacriel might be 5 v 1 when it comes to combat sometimes, but the fact that the single person didn't see one of five other people before the shots started ringing out into the air? Think of it the other way around. Taking it for granted that no one is around you at any given time is a fool's mistake. Everyone who knows anything about this game knows that on a PvP-based map to play like someone has their sights on you at all times, and to move accordingly. -

I watch Sacriel because he plays exactly the same as I do with my squad, and he has fun doing it. Just because he isn't joking around and being a clown doesn't mean he isn't having fun. If he ever sounds arrogant or selfish then god forbid it's because he's actually human. I've thought he's been a jerk from time to time, but so have I. We all have our bad days, and anyone on this forum would be lying if they said their mood has been the picture of perfection every day of their lives. As for him thinking he's a god? He doesn't, but he also knows he's better than average so why shouldn't he be proud of it from time to time? He can snipe a headshot with a non-zeroed sniper rifle at 800m with one bullet, not having to think too much about it. At the same time I've seen him spray and pray when panicked and not be able to hit the broadside of a barn. Hell, I've shot someone running zig-zagging at 850m with a single neck shot from a DMR. Everyone loves to complain and throw shit around, and the internet is the perfect place to get away with it. When I grew up as a child if I was caught back-chatting to an adult I'd have my hide whipped due to lack of respect. When I think back to the times where I did? I deserved it, and I never did it again. We're all swimming around in a giant online cesspool, and when something good comes floating along so many people seem to want to latch onto it to sink it down into the dark depths just to make themselves feel better down there. -

It's rather embarrassing when I mis-spell it myself, to be honest. I hope your server reputation isn't going to be negatively affected by any of this, it's all seems rather childish. -

I'm not going to rise to the bait anymore regarding this trolling. I'll let the logs speak for themselves. We only have a frapsed capture of the conversation itself, not any of the action (since it lags us too much while playing), but like I say the logs will speak for themselves. -

I think you just proved my point Andro, sorry to say. You can't just accuse someone else of being someone they're not to back up a lie. Especially when they're an admin of another server. Do you even realise how much your false words can damage someone's server reputation? I'm just a player, but Rammfisch is paying for hosting so you can play a game you enjoy playing, yet you so easily cast that aside and throw accusations that are completely untrue so you can get some petty revenge for being tactically outmaneuvered? -

<--- BustyBullets. If you take a look at my GUID, and EXinar's, you'll find that it's squeaky clean and always has been. We've fraps'ed what conversation we could recover of him just being a little butthurt that him and his squad (the witnesses) got shot with an Enfield and AK. He proceeded to shout a bucket of abuse over chat (most of which we have captured, and is being put on youtube as we speak.). He begins doing this 5 minutes after the Admin logs off for the night. I'm sure once Ryan Talbot looks over his logs it'll show nothing that you claimed was happening at all. And I also hope that you begin to be a little less racist when you see a player running around in a black character skin. It was frankly rather appalling. Edit: In fact is it actually safe to post a GUID on the forums without it being stolen or anything? I'll happily donate mine to anyone who wishes to see, just to make sure that this lie doesn't wrongly ruin my playing experience by building a false reputation.
