haha, the first DayZ standalone "X is OP" thread! Take a picture! Seems that the feature in question is working as intended.
-
This probably could be coded in but to be honest it seems way too specific for this game. Who knows though, with all the features planned, making your own bullets could very well be one of them.
-
I just started getting into the standalone, picked a low population server to lower my chances of getting killed. Started doing some looting in kamyshovo, the server crashed about 10 minutes in. Changed server, my guy was rolled back about 5 minutes. Next server crashed/restarted, but on the next server I was a new-spawn. Not to bothered by it as I found a backpack and stuff pretty quickly, but this should get fixed. And by the way, I'm not one of those to server hop for loot, these were legitimate reasons to change server.

So I gave the standalone a serious go today after avoiding it for a while. Even in this stage of development I am pretty pleased with the game. It looks good, and a pretty smooth frame rate for me, outside of large cities. The features that are in the game work very well, the only bug I noticed was floating loot. I did lose my character once as well but I'm sure they'll patch that up. My first life on the SA I spawned near balota, and foolishly entered the airstrip only to be KoS'd by two bandits of poor accuracy. Second life however I managed to get fully geared, as well as meet another player without us killing eachother (strange concept, I know.) Oh and here is a hint for getting decent gear undisturbed: Zelenogorsk! PvP combat: I'm sure we're all aware that the odds of you making friends with a random player in the server are quite low. In other words: killfest at Balota! However, I have some thoughts on how I believe banditing will play out in future builds of DayZ. I had my first kill in the standalone, was an unfortunate twitch moment when I discovered someone in the same building as me. I went to loot him, and nearly every single item he was carrying was 100% ruined, and therefore useless. If you want to be a successful bandit (who actually gains from his victims), use those handcuffs! Shooting an unarmed player is pretty pointless it seems. Even if they haven't got any good items, you can still rob them of their blood with the right tools (but beware of blood type!)

For those that don't know, Breaking Point is a Dayz mod for arma 2 that was recently redeveloped for arma 3 and is now in Alpha. For those that have played, is it any good?

Playing on same server with 2 comps from same household.
[email protected] replied to Jaygoon's topic in General Discussion
It might depend on the server, but I think this is not allowed. You can try spoofing the IP on one of the computers, but my guess is that the game won't accept 2 connections from the same IP. -
If they optimized the game to a point where we could get 60 FPS on med settings in a city... I would love the devs forever.
-
Your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements to play the game mate. You need a new PC, those parts are ancient.
-
The highest I have actually seen players render in the mod was 1400, like 1450 max, so I don't know about 3000 meters. I think the render cap for most servers I played in was 1200.

Charging people money to help you "make" a game....
[email protected] replied to jBrick's topic in General Discussion
He said don't buy the game, you've no right to be pissed. Its more of a donation than a purchase anyway. In exchange for donating, you get to test the earliest builds. Don't think your playing a game when participating in an Alpha. -
Yeah same here. If anything, we support the development with our financial contribution, and in exchange we get to test the early builds. Rocket did warn against buying the game in its earliest stages, but that in "several weeks" we could see improvements.

Idea of a new rescource that forces to team up.
[email protected] replied to Ozar's topic in General Discussion
He means morality, I think. -
if you zoom in they should render. However, its probably this way for the purposes of the alpha, I'm sure visibility will be increased once they're sure the servers can handle it.
-
It will calm down once more features are added. In the mean time, stay out of the coastal hotspots.

Two copies of DayZ on Steam? Potential?
[email protected] replied to Mycaelis's topic in General Discussion
I believe you have to have steam in order to play the game according to Rocket. So you would have to have a second steam account to log into it I believe. And about people saying this is frowned upon, I think its no big deal, as long as he isn't a hack. Plus, the team will get more money to make a better game XD EDIT: Perhaps if you started DayZ through an .exe instead of through steam, you could simply swap out the key in the registry between each boot up of DayZ. -
Veteran Player's Feedback (18 Hours Deep)
[email protected] replied to 5P4RK4 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Loot only spawning on server restart can go either way. If its operating on a 12 hour restart, that can be a problem, but a 2-4 hour restart, then no big deal. Obviously you don't want people loot cycling/recycling, but some middle ground would be nice as opposed to only finding tin cans. -
How to kill without damaging gear.
[email protected] replied to pbrunk's topic in General Discussion
you can shoot their face. I would assume if you hit their face on not their helmet, then the helmet would not get damaged. -
I see people complaining about bugs and lack of features... To these people I state the obvious: be patient. I honestly don't care if the game is unplayable, my $30 investment I'm sure will be well worth it after they get everything sorted, even if it takes a year for the full release. They started from scratch with the standalone, rather than copy and pasting the ArmA 2 engine. Of course it is going to take a while to build the game and all of the features they have planned. The reason they released it in this state was for 2 reasons: to get it tested, as thousands of people playtesting it will uncover more issues than just the staff testing it by themselves. And the second reason obviously to get money, there are a lot of expenses to be paid when making a game. Hint: if you discover an issue that no one has mentioned, its a good idea to report it... As well, don't report issues that have already been discussed. Once again, its an early Alpha build... I'm confident by the time we get to the Beta that the game will be in an entirely different state, more looking like a game than an Alpha.

You've spawned as a new spawn on a new server. No IRL friends or clan mates to play with. What do you do? Grab a weapon and go on a killing spree in high pop areas? Or be friendly and become a hero? Here is how I play DayZ. When I've spawned, I usually hit the best loot spawns I know of in the vicinity. While in the spawning areas I am friendly to everyone and usually (almost always) try to pick up a team-mate or possibly 2 at most while we are all simple new spawns. I continue to be friendly to new spawns throughout the play session. Once I have my team-mates and the loot I could find from the loot-spawns by the spawn areas, I venture north with my team mates (I.E., the area where nobody spawns) to find better loot from airfields and such. Now, once in the north, my behavior changes somewhat. We will usually take anyone out who has anything other than a pistol. This is because people generally have better weapons and you definitely don't want to walk up to them trying to see if they are friendly, you will probably end up getting a bullet to the face. We hit the best loot spawn locations eventually and take out anyone we see in our area that could be a threat. Of course scouting out high-danger areas (I.E. airfields) before plunging right in. Once we have the best gear and a vehicle, we generally continue to go through different loot-spawn locations and/or get a helicopter. At this point when we have everything, we usually go seek out trouble and play til we die. Once dead, repeat the entire process. Am I a bandit? Am I playing the game correctly and/or the way it was meant to be played? Who knows, you tell me what you think.

Long story short, me and 3 friends were playing this Chernarus server for a number of hours. We had acquired a UAZ and earlier had killed 2 admins for their top tier gear (both had AS50's with 4 mags, likely spawned in) but that wasn't what earned us the ban. We were driving around in the woods a round NEAF with the intent of looking for hidden vehicles or tents. after about 20 minutes of snooping about, we find a small grouping of tents that have some random items in them, nothing of high value. Then all of a sudden all four of us were banned - admin ban - maphacks. apparently we had found the admins' camp, but we never saw a player. So how did they know we were there? Abuse of powers most likely, as well as being a BADMIN.

Long story short, I was on the "OG Clickers!" Celle server. Had only been playing for a couple of hours. I started hearing m107 shots around the river near the town of celle. Turns out, there was someone sniping new-spawns with the .50 Cal. So instead of approaching him head-on, I took the long way around to flank him. about 10 minutes later, I come up behind him from about 120m away and shoot him a couple times with the AK (intending to knock him out) but he started moving so I finished him off. 15 seconds later I was banned. The ban message said "Get some skill bitch" bushwookies.....

probably the worst admin ever?

I was on target. I killed him.
