Hi, solo noob here to tell you that many, many people "lonewolf" it. You can have a blast playing that way. You should know though that its harder to play this way and does get a bit lonely sometimes. Good thing about DayZ though is you can have it both ways. You'll learn over time who to trust and who to avoid like the plague on the servers you play on regularly. Join a whitelisted private server. There is a subforum http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/64-private-hive-discussion/ where you can look at peeps advertising their servers. Its true that you should be careful who you trust. Always go into an encounter prepared for the worst (keep yourself in an advantageous position and have an escape route planned). You will die a lot but thats jsut part of the game. Loot is easy to find so don't get attached to your gear, theres always more to be found. There is a steep learning curve to the game but thats part of the fun. Don't go to websites and look up maps and any information other than the basics of playing the game. The best part of DayZ, imho, is the first days when your running around, knowing nothing, just trying to survive. Oh, and get a hatchet. Best zombie killing weapon in the game. Just a suggestion from me but once you learn the game and get pretty good at it, dont go taking revenge for all the times you got killed by KOS deathmatch players ( this will happen many many times >:( ) on unarmed or melee equipped survivors. have fun, this is a great mod and its a good way to pass the time until we get our hands on the standalone.

Hi, welcome to the forums and the game. :D If you ever find yourself on US46 holler. Are you going to be a paragon of goodness and virtue.. i.e. a survivor... or are you planning on being a misguided, fallen from grace bandit? Either one is cool, I just hope your not another of those puppy kicking, baby punching, antisocial KOS ogres. :P

To be honest, this is the best dev blog I've seen on the SA. So much good information in there. I hope it helps those that are angry or disappointed about the delays in releasing the alpha for public test to understand what a huge undertaking this has become. Totally new game, AAA quality and development. Im betting its going to be worth the wait. Still waiting to see some hints on how you guys are going to promote a playstyle that is more Zombie/bandit survival SA vs. deathmatch Mod, ;) Thanks Rocket, by way of Matt... keep the info coming :)

How long are you waiting?

It really depends on how I feel and where I spawn. The only constant is the first thing I try to do is find a hatchet. After securing one I start playing the game. Lately though, if I spawn anywhere near Electro or Cherno, I head into the city. Don't know why, Ive jsut liked sightseeing a bit.

Give me a golf club. I really really want a golf club. I'll leave direct chat open and scream "Fore!" right before I charge Player and Zombie both. I know its not very clever but it will make me giggle. :P

My favorite glitch death so far was walking on top of a mountain near the shore enjoying the view. Take a step, must of stepped into a crevasse, broken leg, timer pops up, dead. /sigh start again >:( I've been lucky to never die to a door or tree root. Of course just saying this has probably cursed me to 10 deaths by them in the near future.

Find a Hatchet, best Zombie killing weapon ingame. Don't get fond of your equipment, you are going to lose it, but take heart, its easily replaced. Don't kill unarmed survivors, don't kill just to kill, just a suggestion :) Have fun

I feel ya. I've got a hatchet, looting electro supermarket, see a guy running from zombies, Hes got a Lee enfeld. Hes in survivor clothes, Im feeling like talking (I'm almost always found north and alone). I let him know to expect me as he heads into the market, Im all the way at the other end of the market, behind a food shelf, I try to make contact, tell him Im not aggressive, He can loot and we can go our seperate ways. I ask him to just stay back so we have no misunderstanding. He of course, responds in the affirmative, keeps coming towards me, He rounds the corner. I ask him to back up, if he stays out of melee range he doesnt have to fear me. POW dead. Now if I had a gun I could of blasted him when He came in the door, HE was dead meat. I probably could of jacked him up as he came around the food shelf with my hatchet. But then I'm stuck with a lame ass bandit skin. I was no threat at all to him but of course this is team deathmatch DayZ. Unfortunately you get used to it. Now Knowing this is how the Mod is being played, I had set up a tent and put my gun and valuable equipment in it before going into town, so I didn't lose aything but my camos. It just irks me that I gave him so many outs, to just loot what he wants, maybe have a little conversation, maybe team up for a bit, but instead he shoots a guy who has a hatchet. Its times like that I get revenge on my mind and want to take it out on the next guy I see, but that just continues the problem. Best advice I can give is keep trying to play the game how you want to play it, Take the precaution of hiding your stuff before going into a town. Set up tents with gear you seem to have a hard time finding, I seem to have a hard time finding compasses, and MATCHES, omg those damn matches :) , in places you will remember and are easy to get to. You can play the game how you want to, and when team death match rears its ugly head, you are prepared and can quickly start playing the game again after "lulz death". Don't get me wrong, I like PvP. Just don't continue the downward spiral by becoming a KOS guy. Kill bandits, protect newbs, protect yourself if you want, I hope that Rocket, Matt and the Team make the SA offer incentives to not KOS everyone on the server 24/7.

Or he went to the bathroom while a friend was over, and that mean old friend got on his computer and DL'd a script >:(

Nope your not doing anything wrong. Very few of the "normal" houses are able to be entered in the mod. That will change in the Standalone but I know that doesn't help you now :)

Myself, when Im in smaller villages, I look for the single level log cabins with the doorway in the center. Its different from the other log cabin type that usually has a wood pile and more of a "L" shape as opposed to the rectangle with the little atrium doorway in the middle. I usually dont worry about other loot spots, i.e.-dog houses, outhouses, sheds...as I want to get in and out of the place as quickly as possible. If you have a hatchet, its super easy to run into the houses Im talking about and kill the Zeds you've picked up on the way in there. Also on larger villages, look for the red bricked houses, they have 2 rooms and usually have good loot. Always hit up Barns. High value buildings are a different matter but I think your just asking about "normal" buildings. Hope this helps :)

I-7 3610QM 2.3GHz NVidia GTX 660M 8 gigs Ram 17' screen 1980x1080 A mix of very high and turned off features. I get 30-40 FPS and really thats fine with me. Screen is a little small for picking out peeps at long distance but I deal with it.

Respectfully disagree. The game doesn't hold your hand and create endgame if thats what you mean, But its a sandbox game, so the point is its up to you how you play endgame. Repair a vehicle and become a taxi with runs between electro and cherno (on my list of want to do) Go bandit hunting......go Hero hunting Go be an explorer, find something near the fringes of the map you've never seen before. Build a base of operations, stockpile tents and supplies, defend it from thiefs Be a thief and go looking for peeps tents to loot Try and get a huge train of Zeds, then stop in an alley and try to survive the attack. Kill Zeds. Fix up vehicles or helos and give them away to Bambis on the coast. Fill up Backpacks with toilet paper and leave them in a firestation. Giggle at the remarks over sidechat. If you normally group with peeps...Lonewolf it, and vice a versa Be protector of the new spawns on the coast Whatever you do please leave the new spawns alone, Go after someone thats a challenge to you. Killing Bambis is not very sporting :P My point is get creative
