What is Your First Instinctive Reaction When Spotting a Player?
Meeshe replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well considering Ive met a whopping 4 people, and a chopper so far and 2 of the encounters have gone the same way, When I meet another character.....I usually ask "what the hell just happened?", as i bleed out and respawn. The other time, I saw the guy advancing on me with his axe, I was weaponless, so I asked if he intended to use that axe on me. He laughed we talked for a bit and went our seperate ways. The other times, I hide like a little forest creature in a bush. So I guess hide, talk, or die. ;) -
Should I wait to break my DayZ virginity
Meeshe replied to gingermonkey's topic in New Player Discussion
You hadnt heard? Standalone was pushed back til 2014. Everyones upset, but Rocket had a stroke of genius. DayZ is now going to be a game, ABOUT A GAME of Zombie survival. He needs the extra time to do it right. Just Kiding, The SA will be out when its out, your decision but its not expensive, so why not? -

Balota Buddies. The place to be!

@ Illuminati.., thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. Lots of helpful, funny peeps from yalls hive here on the servers. Think Ill head over to the forums and try my luck getting whitelisted. Thanks again. -
Hi Im relatively new here too but I think I can answer a couple of your questions. 1. up to you, but my experience has been that this game is different from anything Ive ever played before. only you can decide if its worth it but if the 30 bucks isnt a bank breaker, give it a try. 2. Theres a "can I run it" thread that has many helpful peeps there that know a whole hell of a lot more about comps and arma 2 than I that could tell you, also the recommendedspecs that you can find around the forum somewhere, search it, is a good starting point in answering your question. 3. Ive been playing on public servers but hacking seems to be a problem on many public servers, so Im thinking of finding a private hive group to make my home til the standalone comes out. 4. Yes get a headset, its not manditory but youll be happy you have it. welcome to the boards  EDIT... Spelling

Balota Buddies. The place to be!
Meeshe replied to PrinceOfJerusalem's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but since yall have multiple servers, are our toons persistent over all of them? The team speak doesnt bother me but I usually play in the evening and although I like trying to survive at night, I dont like to do it all the time. I can hop around time zones on public servers. Again sorry if this is a dumb question, I m still very noob to this game, but am loving it so far. Thanks -
HAHA perfect!

Ooh, ooh, ooh Portland, Oregon please. The city, suburbs and landscape west to the sea would make an awesome map. And the suburb Gresham is just full of meth-zombies anyway so it isnt hard to imagine.

So the other day I found a CZ-550 and at first I was like YAHOO!, but I got to thinking. Im not really looking to be a sniper bandit, and its not a close in Zed fighting weapon, so my joy was tempered a bit. Dont get me wrong, IM happy I found a scoped weapon :P but it got me thinking. So here I put a question to yall: What is the best all around gun, that fills a multitude of roles and youd want when the shit hits the fan. I know u can have more than one weapon but just wondered what was the one gun you cant live without. I wont shy away from a fight but wont go looking for one either. I am thinking of lone wolfing it most of the time, but heading into a city will happen occasionally. Thanks

Great idea, I would love to set up a perimeter with these things around a base or something as an early warning device. Would work nicely to secure your things while your off scavenging, see a flare, "oh crap, someone is raiding the supplies", or as a "grab your guns boys, weve got visitors incoming". Now if in addition you could hook them up to some claymore mines......... KaBoom

Yea the possibilities are endless. little easter eggs all over the place would have as much of an effect on the atmosphere as anything really. IMO of course. Poor Jessica Erica, she was such a sweet girl....... :( EDIT... HAHA -

Yes I agree, would be cool to come upon some an old newspaper front page in a town with hints and details of what happened before you woke up. Or a medical report in a hospital, while your looting. That type of world building that doesnt destroy the tension or unknown. It adds to it. Oh or how about in the middle of Cherno, a statue or billboard, something that has all these personal notes and/or government notices on it... a la 28 days later. "Mom. and Dad, You werent home when I got there to check on you. Hope you got out of the city before it all went to hell. Im going to try and get to grandmas house in Stary. Hoping thats where you went, Love Jessica Erica." That type of stuff would add to the mindfuck that is DayZ imo. EDIT... name change HAHA -

Its not a bad idea, but personally I like the idea that you dont know WTH is going on outside of your field of vision. Are you the only one left? is the whole world infested, if I keep moving north (or east or west...) will I find some help. It kind of adds to the tension/feel of the game in my opinion. -
After tonights session, I see what some of yall mean about the hatchet. Killed my first three Zeds tonight using it. I had to clear out most of the czech pack I had found yesterday, but was able to get my cz-550 in there. I just cant let it drop I guess. But doing so was worth it because I love the hatchet. Quiet and deadly. Funny story, For the last 2 days Ive been trying to work my way north from Cherno. I came upon a barn and 2 house combo on a road. Lots of open space after I come off the hill Im on to get there. I slowly work my way down there, getting close to a wall next to the barn. SHOTS ring out. I race to the wall and freeze. Zeds are aggroing , more shots ringing out and a bit later more shots. A death message on side chat during this.I would of high tailed it back to the trees but it was a long way with no cover so Im stuck there. I wait about 20 minutes stuck pinned down afraid to move and expose myself. I finally work my way around the wall and into the barn. Nothing really there, I take some time checking out the enterable house and the surrounding countryside and cant see any movement other than the Zeds. Its getting dark now so I cross the street to the house, Killing my first 2 Zeds EVER with my hatchet haha and find hardly anything in the house, But I hear some flies. I find the body, kill a Zed eating(?) on him, and loot a M1911, compass and binoculars. YAY! I dont see any dead Zeds anywhere. So Im wondering, did this guy lose his cool and start firing at the Zeds and lose the battle. There were a lot of shots fired that I heard. Or did two guys come together, meet and battle it out, the other guy taking off after killing the other? Just got me wondering. I use the compass and see i was heading south! I thought I had been heading north. On a hunch I headed over the hill and of course I see Cherno industrial buildings in the distance. Last 2 days, I had walked in one big circle /SMH ANyway off topic there. Im going to keep the m1911 and keep my Cz-550 in the pack and hatchet in mainhand because of yall. Thanks. Would love to get my hands on some of these other weaps yall are talking about. And matches, where the hell are the Zeds hiding all the matches.

Its a safe haven, for all the immature 12 year olds, scared of your lady parts? Honestly, thats a strange option to have for a server. I see where it could cause a problem if you had friends on that server and wanted to play with them. Why force you to play as a toon you dont want to play.

Great news for all of you that know and love them. Hope it is a quick return to normalcy for them, their families, and friends. Now get them out of Greece as fucking fast as possible. I mean seriously Greece...WTF!

D'oh Ive passed by a couple winchesters, keeping my cz-550, sounds like I made a mistake there. Having a gun with a scope felt so badass I didnt want to drop it, but not much love for it so far. Been unlucky finding a sidearm I guess, but will keep looking. FINALLY figured out to equip an axe last night so if I can clear out some room in my inventory, Im a hoarding packrat, I can test it out on some Zeds later today. So much good info here.. Im not familiar with this? Is it in Arma 2, like a gun range or something?

Being a Lone wolf, you should consider it.
Meeshe replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Im trying to Lone Wolf it. If I can find some matches and a sidearm, I think Ill be set. Well that and learning how to Freaking equip my hatchet. The tension is tremendous playing solo. It starts to get to me after awhile, especially playing on a night server. I only play in one to three hour sessions though. Because I need a break from it to relax. LOL Like tonight, Im playing on a night server and I jsut feel eyes on me the whole time. I just know Im going to get a bullet to the dome any second. Im trying to watch every movement from every angle and after sneaking into and out of a farm, then back over the hill. I was spent. Time to log I think it has something to do with the way this game pulls you in and takes all of your concentration and attention. Other games I can have the music, T.V, and be having a conversation with somebody and still be playing the game. Not this one, TV is off, no music playing, and eyes on the screen the whole time. Headphones are on and Im straining to hear any little thing that will cue me in to an approaching meanace. Zed or player. This game is unique, at least in my experience that way. And I think a HUGE, if not THE main reason for this is Lone Wolf gameplay with real consquences to death. There is a sense of accomplishment in this game that I rarely get in others. Its an amazing experience. Sorry got long winded there TLDR ...Lone Wolf = Good -
Learning a ton from yalls posts. THANKS  :beans:

Should i wait to get the standalone game or just get arma 2?
Meeshe replied to apingpongball's topic in New Player Discussion
I bought Arma 2 last week. If it helps, I dont regret it one bit. -
So this guy swears, that another guy told him, that an old man said... When your in cherno at night under a full moon. If you whisper into direct comm "Rocket...... Rocket.......Rocket......Can I have a spot in the closed Alpha Test?" The Moon will turn blood red, lightning will flash, a thunder will be heard as your toon falls unconscious. Youll wake up on a very small island, green mist surrounding you, not a sight to see or a sound to hear. No equipment, no weapon... nothing... nothing but time to reflect on what has happened.

I play on a laptop too. Got decent fps in a big city last night. My advice is play with the settings and use the ones that work for you. I dont think there is a magic setting. From what Ive read, lowest setting isnt always the best solution to laggy gameplay in DayZ. So really, just play around with it and find what works best with your laptop. Good luck :) Edit.... I think it probably wouldnt hurt to make sure your video drivers are all updated, turn off all programs and services that arent neccesary, things like that, make sure what horsepower you do have is being used on the game.

So I played for the second time tonight and there was some good and bad. Logged in to a server and it was night. Oh man what a different experience. I spawned in near a big city, and once I got into it, it took me three hours of crawling, hiding and sneaking around to get out. But it was great fun. made my way to what I think was the firehouse. It had a big bay with doors and a room on one side that had 3 levels to it. One the second level there was an Ak-47 (CHEERS!!) and a shotgun of some type. Here comes the bad of the evening, i grabbed the AK and figured Id grab the other gun too. This is where i found out I didnt know how to put things in my backpack :( . I of course lost the AK-47 into thin air. I was pretty bummed but on the next level the Fates must of felt bad for me because on the ground was a beautiful M4A1. I dropped the shotgun and I was in business. Having found a gun I didnt want to lose, I begain heading out of the city. Along the way I got a couple sodas, a hatchet, and a bandage. I probably should of stuck around and scrounged some more but there were peeps all over the place. I heard gunfire and someone was throwing flares everywhere. The scariest moment was when i came around a corner and saw a guy across the street. I froze and he was moving away from me so I dont think he saw me. I made it out of town and headed up to a treeline and over a hill feeling like I accomplished great things HAHA. I figured Id log out and start fresh tomorrow, but something was bugging me. WHen I logged in there was a debug monitor but it was colored and said Monky Monitor. I goggled it and damn, find out it means a hacker is on the server WTF?. I get worried so I log in on another server to check my guy and of course, like the google info said, it didnt save any of my stuff. Im now mad as hell, and loathing monkey monitor. I see a couple buildings not far away so I figure i go loot them real quick get back into the trees and try again tomorrow. The first house had a bandage, the second was a long building, like a storehouse. It had a hatchet and some colas, a can of food, a couple of mags, and another shotgun. ALRIGHT, Im feeling better about everything. Right next to this warehouse is another very long building. As Im coming out I accidentally fired the shotgun. Total fail noob thing to do. Here comes the zombies. I sprint away leaving the building behind and make it into the trees. I figure I should log but I have a nagging feeling I should check that last building. I wait a bit and make it back to it. Turns out its a livestock barn. Lots of stalls, but nothing in it. I head to the little room on the side of it and BOOM a cz-550. I drop the shotgun like a bad habit and now I have a scoped rifle. A few things I learned from this session.... First cities are scary as HELL, and nightime is even scarier. Second, Dont sweat losing stuff, it can be replaced when you least expect it. Third, I have no freaking idea how to equip a hatchet, and Fourth, I hate monky monitor FU BUDDY! Thanks for sticking with this all the way through. I wont start a new thread everytime I play, I promise. Im just having a ball, and thought maybe a couple of yall would get a kick out of one Bambi's bumbling starting adventures.
