Just updated my server and in the users folder the old aoa profile has been replaced with this: reality.ArmaA20Aprofile shadingQuality=7;shadowQuality=3;singleVoice=0;maxSamplesPlayed=32;sceneComplexity=300000;viewDistance=1600;terrainGrid=10;volumeCD=6.5;volumeFX=8.5;volumeSpeech=5.5;volumeVoN=6.5;vonRecThreshold=0.029999999;The VonID=1; isn't in there and I'm wondering why they changed the old profile layout and where do I now put VonID = 1; .. Because the fix at the top of this page actually breaks direct chat for some people :(

    I'm having the same issues as seaweed has mentioned. IMHO messing around the loot spawns just because a handful of regulars complained it was too high was pretty unfair on the rest of us who actually like it. At least give the server owners an option to manually increase or decrease the loot percentage. I'm not looking for an argument or to be trolled, I really respect the time and energy you put into this project, but my server is official and if i've got to wait another month for a hotfix I'm sure my entire user base will have buggered off. (my sig below is for my private Epoch server, not the official dayz mod that i'm senior admin for). I know I know, I could go back to the previous version, but you know how players are when you change something :( lol
  5. That's ok with me. PVP is allowed on the server and there's no guarantee that you'll be 100% safe from bandits. But I hope I've made it clear that KoS douche bags (lol kills, dick players) etc will be dealt with and banned. At the moment though, it's a pretty quiet server, thanks to the white listing and strict pvp rules ;)
  6. I mean don't be a dick. There's a fine line between necessary PVP and the douche KoS mentality. If you're on the airfield for example and there's only two of you looting, why do you need to kill the other person? But if you see a Ural and someone is running for it (for example), then let off a warning shot (or don't, it's your call), if they don't take the hint, then the best shot wins (you killed them out of necessity , survival needs). But simply killing someone on sight because you can (for no reason other than, oh look another player, kos time) is a dick move and if you still don't get what I'm saying then I'm sorry but I can't explain it any better.

  13. Did you wake up this morning and think to yourself, "I'm going to write a post that contradicts the very title of said post!" ... Why didn't you say that you like servers with MORE zombies (more zeds does not make them tougher zeds, just makes them MORE), because there are plenty of private servers out there with custom zed spawns etc.. But I wouldn't call a pay-to-win server "best" under any circumstance. We accept donations for our server but make it clear there's no benefit to it (other than good will and kudos), everyone (even admins) get vanilla loadouts etc.. If made the zombies any tougher, we'd have to close down the server due to psychological trauma.

    Do you have the exact error message? Is it actually an error or just a BE kick? If its just a BE kick then ask the admin to update the BE filters (I had to update mine after countless kicks like this)
  15. I'm running a public server (official hive) with disableVon set to value 1 in the server cfg file. Now I only mention that because it may or may not be the cause of the problem. Most of my users are complaining that they can't use Direct Chat (voice or text) , however they can use Vehicle and of course Side. I've tried turning the disableVon on and off, but the results are mixed each time, even when set to 0 some of the players can't see or hear direct chat. Because my user base changes so much its difficult to test it with the same players each time (to get an idea of whether the on or off states for disableVon have any greater or lesser effect), so I'm just wondering if anyone here has had the same issue and maybe fixed it? Our server is running the latest patches as advised in the 1.8 update thread. Any ideas?

    Ok fixed it (kind of). Your answer was actually really close so I owe you an apology sorry, my armaprofile wasn't set up properly (it was very out of date). I've managed to turn on names when people talk in side now, even at Veteran level (so that's better than nothing). The disableVON still breaks Direct chat though, so not much further with that.

    The settings are different for official hive servers. We tried that already and it doesn't work. But maybe one of the devs can shed some light on the problem.     Has the issue with Direct Comms not working while disableVon is set to 1, been fixed yet. That seems to be a pretty important bug considering most admins struggle with SideChat Voice spammers when we're running the game at higher levels, as it doesn't show the persons name. It's a constant struggle to keep asking players to turn off Von in sound settings, or go through the names systemically muting them (especially as most spammers are aware of this and only keep their voice spams to a couple of seconds at a time).

  21. I agree with you on the log entry, that's why I had to get a second opinion. The player definitely wasn't getting kicked. This always happens when a player logs out in a vehicle from what they tell me , these are good players who play fair and have given me no cause for suspicion in the past. So I'm settling with OfficerRaymonds input. Thanks to everyone else too, I appreciate people trying to help me understand these entries better. OfficerRaymond, you ever thought about writing a short FAQ on what to look for in the logs and how to spot suspicious activity etc. There are no decent tutorials and you seem to know what you're talking about :)
  22. The players are not getting kicked. Both times I've been able to speak with the players concerned they've insisted that they were in a vehicle and lost connection. This is the main problem with DayZ , lots of guess work, trial and error. When getting an answer from the devs (the people who build this thing) would probably save admins like me (and you maybe) days of searching and guess work. I see some really important questions going unannswered on these threads, but the minute someone asks "how many animals spawn in the new update" they'll get an answer within minutes and usually from a dev. Come on devs, I respect your hard work and I know what it's like to be doing something like this for free (i'm a developer for a different project), but at least try to answer some of these questions. Maybe throw up some FAQ's on what the most common BE entries are, how to configure your cfg's properly etc.. Not a dig , just a polite request from someone who appreciates your work but doesnt want to spend all HIS time pissing around with issues when he could be playing the dam thing himself :p

    No ,that's not the problem. I've been hosting dayz for over a year so I'm honestly not that stupid lol. That setting is ONLY supposed to turn off VOICE in Sidechat , even if your theory was correct , it shouldn't be disabling TEXT-CHAT in Direct (which it does) and if that is the case, why can players still talk in voice and text chat in Vehicle? They can also still type in SideChat. (fyi: some users can talk to each other, even when that setting is enable, if you read my post properly you'd have seen that.. it's not you, I'm just a grumpy old bugger lol). I'm actually hoping that one of the developers answers this question because in all honesty the lack of answers to real questions on this forum is shocking. No offence, but all I see are answers from people who don't know what they're talking about. People just taking wild guesses based on a hunch etc (which is ok, but when that's all there is, its just the blind leading the blind). Also please look up the differences between Public and Private servers. Your link is for private servers, I said that I'm running a public server (the first paragraph says it's an official hive public server, sorry if you missed that). Like I said, no offence but I'd like one of the developers to answer this for a change. I'm sick to death of people asking genuinely important questions and not getting an answer, while some moron asks about "how many animals spawn since the new update" and they get an answer within hours from the devs.
  24. Can't spectate players on official servers. I used to on my private server and it helped me catch loads of hackers in the act. But You know how people cry admin abuse (even if the admin doesn't get involved in pvp etc).. Thanks for the confirmation though , appreciate. Thanks to everyone else for replying too. :)
