The RV engine is the worst engine ever made.
maliceubx replied to EchelonEffect's topic in General Discussion
Tenfold? What?. Standalone has made some improvements but overall the architecture has to support less calculation than it did previously (Less guns, no vehicles, no item respawns, no zombie respawns, 1/100th of the amount of zombie AI, 15-20 less players, no air physics due to no flying) and it runs the SAME if not a slight bit worse than the mod at the moment. -
The best way to add value to a life is to literally add values to that life. IE Skill system. I think taking something away from a player is the wrong way of going about promoting value.

A Few idea's My friends and I have come up with.
maliceubx replied to Morgosin's topic in General Discussion
All of these things have either been touched on and plan on being added or were already in the mod.. except for AI bandits - I think its the general consensus that AI has no place in DayZ except for zombies. We want a sandbox experience where players make up the adventure. -
Dayz --- My experience (opinion) so far...
maliceubx replied to Knocturnal's topic in General Discussion
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not to rain on your parade here but there are plenty of engines out there that support a large map size with comparable (ish) graphics which run multitudes better than the RV engine. Just Cause 2's Avalanche engine not only manages to maintain 923 km2 of diverse terrain but the recent multiplayer mod has pushed 1,000 players simultaneously while remaining stable. Not to mention the engine itself supports things the RV engine does not currently such as a working physics engine in a low latency environment. Say what you will to defend the choice but the truth is BI didn't want to invest the amount of money necessary to license a more capable engine and Rocket did what he could to make his dream happen with the tools he had, so much respect to him for that... Although given the proper tools I think this game would currently be a year ahead development wise compared to where it is now if he hadn't had to deal with a clunky server architecture, engine and practically having to reinvent the wheel so-to-speak through RV. Also to those saying BI doesn't have money... it's kind of a weird thing to say. DayZ mod alone was responsible for between 500-700,000 sales at between 10-30 dollars per. Now Standalone just pulled 600,000 and quickly climbing. 1.2 million sales for something that cost them a fraction of what a AAA title would cost, I'm sure the level of profitability is not bad. -
At the end of the day if they've got a weapon they are a threat to your safety. His gestures of moving closer to you indicated more-so that he was a threat. You did what you should have. Next time don't hesitate :)

Please help me. I'm in desperate need of tech support [SOLVED]
maliceubx replied to Dongsquad's topic in General Discussion
If there is a system halt of any kind on any program there is always going to be an error report filed in your error reporting. This is a little advanced but hopefully I can explain this well enough: (Assuming Win7) Right click on 'Computer' and go to 'Manage'. From there you will see a few different options on the left, you're going to want to click on 'Event Viewer'. In the event viewer you will see 'Summary of Administrative Events' and under that little +'s with the names Critical, Error, and Warning. Click the + associated to 'Error' and a drop down should appear. From there you're looking for Event ID 1000, once found double click it. A list of errors should appear. Try to find the error associated with DayZ by looking at the time stamps and after you've found it go to the text underneath the 'general' tab and copy all the text back here. I may be able to assist you if I have this information. -

Where is everyone? NW Airfield not a hotspot anymore?
maliceubx replied to Denzje's topic in General Discussion
Why go all the way to northwest airfield when server hopping balota results in better loot in a 10th of the time. Problem is there is no loot tiers right now, so there's no reason to be there. -
Your experience in the north / east cost ?
maliceubx replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
I don't even bother going north or east anymore. If you're not on the south coast you will not see a single player. There just isn't a reason to go there anymore, and as boring as it is to stay in a single area it's literally the only way to not play single player. -
I've seen a few posts here where it looks like someone went into the actual breakdown of the game itself to find out the useful modifications things like the ballistic helmet and bike helmet provide. If anybody could help me out by letting me how where this kind of information is located and how I could access it that'd be great. It seems there is a great deal of missing information on things such as weapon damage and item modifications and I'd like to educate myself. Thanks in advance if anybody knows.

with the way logging in works in this game it's pretty much log out in a tree or bust. If you log out in any position other than standing you're going to be standing when you log back in, which makes it extremely difficult to stay alive.

It was funny at first...Also minor suggestion
maliceubx replied to Craux's topic in General Discussion
The problem with people who rely on this strategy is they tend not to learn any skills for dealing with unknown aggression. I'm not talking about talking the guy out of killing you but finding ways to escape danger from an unknown direction. I feel there is going to be a lot more rage posts about PVP after the anti-log is implemented. -
I find it difficult to post an uneducated opinion. Getting the hard facts on what something does helps me substantialize my claim and not make me look like a total moron :), but I get what you mean.

I think charcoal tablets have a chance of settling your stomach, but other than that you're only option is to throw up and recover.

DayZ is more about the experience it gives you and less about the content it provides.

Petition: Wipe of Characters on Next Update.
maliceubx replied to Clarkeh's topic in General Discussion
The next patch isn't introducing any anti-server hopping and isn't addressing server item respawns which means people are still going to do what they're doing now. The difference between a fresh spawn and someone who is fully loaded is a walk to kemanka military base and 2 hours of server hopping and that isn't going to change next patch. I'd agree with you if they fixed respawns or server hopping tho. -
Nowhere in the patch notes does it mention any fix. afaik Rocket has said anti-combat logging has been complete but turned off for now as it affects server performance and servers are already running badly.

The Mosin currently nails 'the feeling'. Its rare enough to find occasionally, satisfying enough to use as your main rifle, and all around a rewarding experience to find. The way picking up an M4 feels now should be the feeling I get when I pick up a pistol, maybe a shotgun. The feeling the Mosin gives me should be global to every main rifle they plan on putting into the game. Not only is it rewarding to find, its a rewarding experience to build up with scopes and whatnot too.

Rocket in holiday doesn't mean nothing happens
maliceubx replied to TimM1983's topic in General Discussion
People like to sensationalize - most don't ACTUALLY believe nothing is being done, they're just frustrated because we don't have complete transparency. -
I think the most they should do is add an ID system or some sort, colored bands or whatever but I don't think you should ever "not worry' about shooting your friends. Half the disadvantage of playing with people is the risk of accidently shooting them or getting mixed up. Just get better organzied with your friends.

There are no save-state server elements, no tents, and no items in standalone currently that are dupe worthy... I don't understand why it's such an issue? -
The most common reason for your mic not working in game is due to it not being set as the default input device in your control panel. While in VOIP programs you can specifically choose which device you want to use, in steam it only relies on what your computer tells it to use. To check to see if this is your problem first open up a program like Teamspeak and check to see which input device you're using for a properly working mic and remember its name. next go to your control panel and from there click on the sound icon. Under sound there should be 4 tabs at the top, one of them being named "Recording" - click it. In this tab you should see some devices that may be installed on your computer. Find the one named the same thing as the one you saw in your VOIP program and right click it. Under the right click menu click on "Set as Default Device" and "Set as Default Communications Device". Close out of everything and restart steam, boot it up and test it out in DayZ.

Sorry, but no. Alpha tests are meant for testing the functionality and workability of new content and if the barebones of the game is not running properly it is up to the developers to address these issues to allow proper testing grounds for their testers. The primary reason for pre-alpha and the reason why we waited so long for dayZ alpha was so Dean could get a working barebones. How can we possibly provide workable feedback if a key function in the game is not working. I'm not saying they should forgo their vacation to fix the issue but at the very least don't have it in your mind that "Dev's can do whatever they want cuz its alpha lol". It's just wrong.

Do you think the WOUNDING SYSTEM is realistic enough?
maliceubx replied to theshooter's topic in General Discussion
Seems the exact same as in the mod to me. -
Protein =/= muscle. Protein + muscle tearing through heavy weights = muscle. There is nothing you're doing in game that is going to make your character gain 'bulk' except maybe running around with a backpack full of cans and stuff.
