While this is indeed great news I have to admit I'm very new to DayZ and have not followed this story and its events since the beginning so I'm confused about something: "The men supposedly rerecorded and photographed strategic military objects to be used in an upcoming military shooter. After Bohemia Interactive denied that its employees were in Greece and illegally obtained photos as part of their work, the Czech President Václav Klaus also sided with them when he sent a letter to his Greek counterpart Karlos Papoulias with a request for their release" Why are Bohemia denying that these 2 employees were taking photos as part of their work for Arma3/DayZ? Isnt that why they were on the Island in the first place, getting reference material? Or do you need authorisation from the local authorities to take pictures if it relates to a retail project? (such as film companies filming on location) I'm not doubting in anyway their sincerity or innocence. I'm just confused as to why Bohemia would deny they were there on business?? (most likely because they hadn't gotten the appropriate clearance/authorisation??)

Me and my buddy were playing on a private hive server yesterday (messing about trying things so as not to affect our official hive survivors) We went to the NE Airfield (neither of us having been there before) and we found 4 hangers, control tower, medical building, 3 storey office building and 4 barracks. GREAT we thought, this is why everyone comes here! so we played there during the day for about 10 hours. in the evening , we joined the public hive server we normally play on and spawn at the NW Airfield (this is identical on the public and private hives in terms of the amount of buildings) and we decide to make the 7.5km trek from NW to NE to see if we can get a few things we need and see what the loots like. We make the trek and are shocked to find only 2 aircraft hangers and the control tower :( I immediately think "oh, might be the wrong beta version, might have had an update" So i find another global hive server that's bang up to date, same as the private hive server, again still the same, only the 3 buildings :( massive disappointment :( So, to my question: Is this a mod? Is this some sort of server admin hack to increase building numbers? Coming from an FPS background of some 14 years I've never seen a game where you can 'add' or 'remove' things from a map, the map is always a 'static' entity (UT, Q3, TF, CS, etc etc) The server name didnt say anything about additional buildings, just 100+ vehicles.

Additional Buildings on private hive server
guyver1 replied to guyver1's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't think you're getting the point, or, you never played other FPS games. A map is an environment. Examples of 2 classics: Deck16][ from Unreal Tournament TheCampGrounds from Quake3 Regardless of which UT or Q3 server you joined, when those maps loaded, you got exactly what you were expecting. The maps DONT change. Thats consistency across servers That doesnt stop map makers from changing those maps, but under 'best practices' for those 2 games, if you modified anything in a map, you had to rename it, for example, league/competitive versions of those maps were made and the name would change so that people knew what exactly they were playing (this was also a requirement due to the fact that in those 2 games your client map files had to match the files on the server, if there was a mismatch you wouldnt get on the server): Deck16][-LE TheCampGrounds-G1E etc etc. When I play on a Chernarus server, I would at least like to know that I'm 'actually' playing on Chernaus and not some hacked version with loads of stuff changed. If server admins are changing the actual map by changing terrain, adding/removing buildings then at least adjust your server name in the browser so that people know its a modified map! If server admins are changing things then its not really chernarus anymore, and should be displayed accordingly. There are some of us who just want the 'vanilla' experience (esp with the standalone due soon) -
Additional Buildings on private hive server
guyver1 replied to guyver1's topic in New Player Discussion
That for me is bad news. There is nothing worse than fragmenting the community :/ I can understand having 'different' maps such as Namalsk etc, but the maps NEED to be consistent across servers otherwise the player base will become fragmented and you'll end up with thousands of servers, all running different versions of the game leading to servers with barely anyone on them as people have suddenly become VERY choosy about 'how' they like their maps... If anything I would hope that the standalone clamps down on this so that there is parity when moving between servers, like in traditional MMO's Moddablity is great, but only up to a point. too much choice leads to fragmentation and that is never good. -
Shouldnt that that be L1CKETYSPL1T??

When i was a teenager (38 now) I saw Akira on BBC2 introduced by Jonathan Ross. It was the first time Anime had ever been shown on british prime time TV. It blew me away and started my love of Japanese Manga and Anime. (I still have over 50 original VHS tapes, mostly by Manga Video) My favorite series back then was Guyver: Bio Booster Armour (the original series, not the reboot) When i got my first computer back in 1999 and found the world of online fps gaming via Wireplay and Unreal I chose Guyver1 as my 'online' name. I have had it now for 14 years and never once used any other online name. I am Guyver1

Is there still a point in buying Arma 2?
guyver1 replied to Crimsons's topic in New Player Discussion
BIS have already stated that SA will have a low cost associated with it. I would be very surprised if the SA was priced anything over say £15 <--- THIS IS A GUESS, SUE ME! So even if you bought Arma][ on steam offer and then standalone, you'd still PROBABLY pay less than a full AAA PC title -

The Standalone is due soon, can you wait? If so, get the StandAlone version edited to avoid to hate drivel of people who take every single word literally -

nice one, cheers -
So i purchased Arma][, Arma][ OA (and hence Arma][ OA beta) on Steam to play DayZ Is the beta a more up to date version than the plain OA? Am i supposed to use the beta version with the latest version of DayZmod to get the best, most up to date DayZ experience? What are the differences between OA and OA beta? and how does that impact DayZ? is there a good guide or webpage write up on this topic anywhere?? Cheers. Guyver1

Are Tents Useless without Secure Storage?
guyver1 replied to kwairt's topic in New Player Discussion
Isnt DayZ supposed to be 'authentic'? If so, then leaving a tent out in the open (even in a good hiding spot) in a post apocalyptic 'war zone' is authentically going to be looted if its found.. Its not the game that needs to be changed, its your mindset. -
lack of communication!?!? Try following Black Mesa for 5 years!! Then you'll understand lack of communication!!

The Bounty System Radio system known as ‘The Voice’ Radio speaker ‘assets’ could be added to the world to telegraph poles, pylons, etc to broadcast bounty messages Various locations could house ‘Bounty Boards’ with lists of bandit names and last known location, and last known time seen at that location. The bounty boards could be ‘paper’ lists pinned to notice boards, or a digital readout style display type device. for the ‘realism’ folks who want the ‘but who updates the boards’ you could essentially have a never seen NPC unit who work for ‘The Voice’ who maintain the bounty lists. The Bounty Every time you kill another player ‘The Voice’ somehow gets wind of it through his network of informants. A bounty reward is attached to the killer Bounty Amount and bounty determination: Bounty and whether you are marked as a wanted bandit on the bounty list is determined as follows: All items have a ‘cost’ whether a player is armed has a ‘cost’ Player location has a ‘cost’ All these costs are added together to create, a ‘live’ bounty assessment score. Sliding Scale Bounty Score If your bounty assessment score is within a determined threshold to the player you kill, you get a minimal bounty score meaning you do not get added to the ‘Wanted Dead’ Bounty board. If your Bounty assessment score is outside a determined threshold, you get a higher bounty score. The Bounty Board has a set score, (say 500) if you get a bounty Score of 500 or above, you immediately get added to the Bounty Board and 'The Voice' announces that a new bandit is on the wanted list and was last seen at X location and his/her bounty reward is currently set at Y Example 1. 2 players, closely matched in gear, in one of the big towns or military installations who get involved in a firefight are simply in a firefight, their Bounty Scores are closely matched and so the ‘killer’ get a minimal Bounty Score that doesnt hit the Bounty Board Threshold. Example 2. Your typical camping/spawn camping bandit KOS killer. Has lots of gear (sniper rifle), = high cost, Is camping a hill, = medium to high cost, kills a player who has recently spawned and has no gear and is scavenging for essentials. This player is immediately marked with a bounty due to the large discrepancy in bounty assessment score between the two players. This player gets a large bounty score that puts him above the threshold required to get them added to the Bounty Board. Bounty rewards. Bounty has to be collected from predetermined locations, if you get killed before you collect, tough, thats life. Bounty rewards can be any in-game items, weapons, food, clothing etc (almost like a shop), maybe some special items only available through bounty reward collection. Successful Bounty collection gets you added to the Bounty Board as a Bounty Hunter stating who you killed, and how much the bounty reward was. This in turn can allow players to develop reputations as bounty hunters, who in turn could end up being hunted down by bandits who want revenge. The bandit dies, loses all their gear and has to create a new character and start from scratch with nothing. The Bounty Hunter gets to collect the bounty reward and trade that reward in for in-game items to the value of the reward amount. ‘But the bandit will simply respawn, and get geared up by his mates’ Its essentially a different person in the game (regardless of whether the player behind the mouse and keyboard is the same), gangs in real life, if they lose a member, will simply recruit a new member to fill the void, this is the same. if the player is a lone gunman, then as in real life, he’s dead, and the new player joining the game is simply another lone gunman to be taken out when he makes a name for himself as a killer. Thoughts??

in terms of tags, wouldn't the bandit skin be enough of a identifier, if the bandit skin was tied to the bounty board?
