Don't consider the weapon. Consider the round. 5.56 is quieter, less recoil, less range, less energy transfer. This means that 5.56 compensates for it's lack of energy transfer by placing better shot groups. It was also intended to wound a target rather than kill it. This is because in real life you take more people out of a fight by wounding his buddy than you do killing him. An instant kill means the people around him ignore him and keep fighting. Critically wound him and his buddies have to take care of him and lose moral by hearing his screams.... 7.62 is louder, more recoil, higher effective range and more energy transfer. This means that a 7.62 round hurts more at higher ranges but generally is less accurate. It all comes down to what range I want to fight at honestly. Even if you think you are some internet marksman. If you stand at 500 meters armed with a 5.56 and I with a 7.62, I am going to kill you faster. The only variable to choosing a round to a weapon is if that weapon can be zeroed or not. For some odd reason not all weapons in Dayz can be zeroed... So, my personal preference is take a 7.62 weapon that can be zeroed. Keep a silenced 5.56 weapon or pistol for zombies..

Depends on the range and the round. Effective range is not the weapon's maximum range. Bullet drop happens at the point where that round loses enough energy for gravity to start to pull it down. Effective range as a general rule of thumb is about half of it's maximum range. So ... using this knowledge you can kind of find the sweetspot of a certain weapon by mucking about and finding out where the bullet drop starts to take effect. I'll help you , in case you don't feel like doing any research. Pistols are good to about 25 meters. Which is fine because anything more than that and you start to lose your sight picture for an accurate shot anyway. 5.56 rounds are good to about 300 meters , 7.62 rounds are good to about 800 meters , .50 caliber rounds are good to about 1000 meters. When a weapon has a stadia reticle ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadiametric_rangefinding ) that means that range has to be determined and the sight needs to be adjusted accordingly. Good strategy for sniping would be to find a spot that is known, like a barn or something. Find the range to it by placing a map marker on it or using binos/rangefinder or by doing it the old fashioned way and just use the map. Compare that range to the effective range of the weapon that you are using, and zero the weapon for that range. You've now established your "kill zone". Shoot anything that comes in that range. If you can't zero your weapon then use the mildots. (little dots underneath the crosshair in your scope. Those are usually set at 100 meter intervals starting at the effective range for your weapon. ....and all legit servers have bullet drop EDIT: oh yeah, the bullet starts to drop at around the point where the round loses enough velocity to lose energy transfer when it hits. So that means that the round won't "hurt" as much. This is how effective range is determined. In summary, don't fucking try to snipe shit at 500 meters with a 5.56 rifle, and so on so forth. ....whew...

Night vision takes about 20 minutes to set in and it's ruined by any type of light. Which is why modern military grade night vision is monoscopic and straying away from the AN-PVS7. One eye acclimates to the night while one eye is seeing the world through the device. Wish somehow that could be incorporated into the game.

I'm not going to go into this. My point is that exploited weapons do have icons. Vehicle mounted weapons do not. That doesn't mean that any weapon you may find on someone's body that has an icon is legit. I kind of agree with the "no official list of weapons" but at the same time it creates issues like this. Players really won't know what is legit unless they ask and a dev officially responds.

Depends on what you consider "hacking" Spawning a crate and taking a weapon that isn't in the mod would be exploiting... Most of which, if not all have legitimate icons next to them. Only weapons I've seen that have no icons are the weapon systems for vehicles that a player can spawn on his chest. I know for a fact that you can exploit certain weapons in the game that aren't dropped that still have icons. Golden revolver, sd makaroni, sd G36. Each with an icon. EDIT: This is has been possible from waaaaay before Dayz and I don't see it being any different in this mod than any others.

Real life would carry real consequences ... I am inclined to believe that a good 75% or possibly even more would actually be very willing to help and band together. It would be large groups of people segregating themselves from the world and becoming self sufficient. Which would probably lead to wars between factions and the cycle would repeat itself. In real life you have much more to gain from not killing people indiscriminately... In real life you are bound to run into someone who is probably a little more capable than you are at taking a life eventually... Which would mean that natural selection would kick in and those that were actually disciplined and trained would be at the top of the food chain. Gamers do not have to consider those options. There is nothing to gain from banding up with strangers to preserve humanity because humanity is not being threatened ... it's a fucking game... When in a real situation when an idiot meets his better ... that idiot is removed from the equation permanently. In this game, you just respawn and have your buddies give you all your shit back ... There is a difference between a trained , disciplined killer and a simple fucking murderer...

Just put a damn timed logout on and be done with it. Leave the player in the game for 15 seconds after lost connection. Pvp flag would work too but it won't stop people from logging out whenever they hear or see someone. It will also discourage server hopping since you can't protect yourself for those 15 seconds. Therefore you shouldn't be a dumbass and log out where other people may be, just so you can server hop and farm loot.... Zombies deaggro during that time. Players do not ... collateral damage imo ... deal with it.
