September Round-up: DevBlog, #DayZDaily, PAX, GDC China
herbster replied to SmashT's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Thought I'd come back after a few months to see what's happened. Still the same it seems; Rocket moving the goalposts and focussing on trying to push 'polished items' into an supposed alpha. No doubt the same fanatical band of supporters are here backing up piss poor: a) Communication b) Development c) Project Management d) all of the above I'd love DayZ standalone to be a massive hit but I have absolutely no belief that it'll happen considering the fucks so far en-route. It'd be great to be proven wrong mind! -
Basically if there is ANY chance that a user (old, young, retarded, highly intelligent, ignorant, enlightened, streetwise, naive - I mean anyone) is more likely to side with a moderators viewpoint in a debate, than that of another forum user then there is NOT a zero requirement.
-
Please answer these questions, but please try and be objective: Did I say that the moderators don't do a fine job? What is the job of a moderator? When a moderator is involved in a debate with a normal user, do you think that other users (not just yourself) may side more with the moderators views because they have an official capacity? Have I said that a moderator (as in the person tapping on the keyboard) should be restricted on what they post on the forums? Can you please explain to me what the elitist bandwagon is?

Which houses / Structures to be searched for quick loot ?
herbster replied to nikhilkdipsar's topic in New Player Discussion
It does take a bit of time to learn which building can spawn loot or not. I don't think there's anything wrong with using the maps to see the building/spawn points or the building visuals as being a new player it's hard enough learning the zombie mechanics without having no clue as to where to pick up gear. Each to their own I guess. -
Take this as a bowing down before you in apology - I got my posts mixed up!!
-
As long as it wasn't displayed in a dark font that could only been seen with NVG's or turning gamma up.......
-
Not want to sound funny but what you said was your own personal opinion, which you're totally entitled to convey. You didn't try and be objective at all, which what I was trying to do.
-
Yeah, on reflection it is really tough. hey ho - life would be boring it it was easy lol!
-
From your post all your quotes came from 10:40, yet all I said was Blah and didn't edit the post. It's late and I CBA replying to you if you can't BA to quote me correctly. Please say how I'm biased.
-
It's not really the messing up that's the problem - it's infrequent and we're all human - the problem is that if Fred Bloggs posted as a moderator his words would carry more weight than if he posted as a normal user. Far less to older forum users, but to new forum users Freds words would would be held in greater esteem - purely because there were written by a moderator.
-
You admitted you're a fanboi so it's not an insult or false accusation. Dunno why you think my argument regarding moderators etc etc involves you in an form though...... And no, I don't want a hug. I would however love to see you thinking for yourself, reading posts and then forming an opinion rather than skipping the first two steps.....
-
Erm, I think you'll find that my previous post was the 1st time I'd used the term 'fanboi'. Need I say more......?
-
1. Therefore you're unable to provide an objective arguement. 2. It was the LP of 'Biasness' and you're stuck on the title track. 3. It's a good thing to have mods that moderate. If they're active in the community 'outside their role' i.e. as normal forum users, even better!!!
-
At the same level as us mere mortals they can do whatever they want, but when they put on the moderator hat, they should be forum moderators, simple as that. The moderator badge gives added emphasis over a normal forum user, hence anything posted as a moderator should be specific to that role.
-
Max, you are and forever will be a biased fanboi. You complained about me being negative yet you are like an LP stuck on the same track. Did I, or anyone else, propose a system where you wouldn't be able to show your booger collection?
-
Hallelujah, like it not, this man speaks the truth.
-
Another reason why moderators should use private accounts for their own personal views. You're posting as a forum moderator, not a guru as to how you feel the game should be played. Before you say it's personal opinion and exactly the same as others. nope, if a new player saw the forums for the 1st time they'd take your word as gospel.
-
A prime example of what should have been posted as a normal forum user rather than a moderator.
-
EDIT : I skim read this and thought it would have been better as a PM, then thought it was purely sarcastic, but after reading it again thought it was actually a really shitty post. It actually takes condescending to a new level.
-
The main reason I play mostly on private hives is due to hackers, not additional bits and bobs (which I shy away from tbh). No issue with private hives at all but once hackers are out the window I'll be on the public servers.

There's nothing to say that moderators couldn't be active members of discussions on the boards as normal members, only putting on their capes and Y-Fronts when people overstep the mark. I think you moderators have some of the best input on the site but that's not because you're a moderator, it's in spite of being a moderator. Remember that you should be loved or hated for the content of your posts, not the highlighted colourful name/title. EDIT: You also highlighted a real element of ambiguity regarding being a conduit to the devs. Something I've suggested is having a dedicated liason 'officer' (for want of a better word) to focus on getting feedback from the community on elements of development, be that big fixes, new features or just plain updates. It's enough that developers perform this role (which they (as in the majority of developers in existance) are notoriously bad at doing) without the hat being worn by moderators was well.

DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
herbster replied to willey.erd@oundleschool.org.uk's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I was under the impression that the 'alpha' testing wasn't for the actual game, it was for performance. So the actual game itself wouldn't be alpha at all really, only the MMO part that needs many clients for stress testing. -

I think it comes from this post http://www.joystiq.c...l-at-least-jun/ If it is from this and this alone, whilst it isn't an actual quote from Rocket, it does imply it's from the horses mouth. IGNORE THIS POST, IT'D ALREADY BEEN POSTED!!! -
With all that romping across the countryside, I couldn't last without some.......

Amongst other things.........
