Name 5 thinga you want the most for dayz asap.
landfish replied to Serious Stan's topic in General Discussion
My top 5: 1)Rocket to expand DayZ dev team, DayZ alpha has earned quite a few million so why not? It will only speed up dev time and add more variety contents of the game. 2)Fix the server problems, self explanatory really. 3)Higher quality animations, probably down the line but the thoughts of DayZ with Gta-level animations gives me a massive boner. 4)Deeper customization of everything, from crafting to barricading doors and windows to customizing guns to character customization(Height, age, race etc etc) 5)A more hardcore, tougher survival game. This is what separates men from the boys, I don't want to be playing with 10 year olds with no aims but to kos and generally be annoying little retards. A real survival game aimed at adults will probably drive them back to COD. -
story line - find puzzle pieces/hint of what caused the Apocalyps
landfish replied to Gilarts's topic in Suggestions
My problem with this is, how many people is really willing to spend their time actually creating stories that may not even be seen or be believed by other players? What OP is suggesting is probably a concrete history to Chernarus to give players a sense of purpose about what they're doing there. -

@ Longs I'm not exactly asking for a hunting sim but if the large animals are deep in the woods, they would have very little contact with urban elements so a complex Ai is not really needed. Just play games like gta v or Skyrim, you would have a rough idea how big animals are implemented into a game. -

Exactly, this suggestion is mostly aesthetics than gameplay. A thousand rats with complex pathfinding is more than just a pipe dream right now. But with some workaround and clever modeling and placement, it could give the illusion of just that. For example, walls with moving planes that looks like cockroaches is more than enough. Some rat sounds on supermarkets, chewed up models of food and moving textures of rats moving on places that is unreachable by players or murky waters so you wouldn't just see performance consuming models of fish swimming around but still be able to catch them. The only real threat to performance here are large animals and those are not even that many. -

@Jaygoon Any contribution to the topic? I don't appreciate pointless sarcasms-_- -

@Jaginum You're not gonna see just an individual model of each of these animals. A great number of small polycount of rats and cockroaches wouldn't eat up much performance yet still be noticable. Insects could just be particles that doesn't exceed more than a hundred polygons. Termites cold just be textured in destryoed walls and furnitures to have plausible explanations of why they were destroyed. -

How deep is Rockets plan about implementing wildlife in DayZ? I heard him mention about a deer skeleton they are working on but how much part do you guys think wildlife in SA be? I personally think wildlife should play major part in the SA. From something as simple as birds flying away and making noises when a gun is fired or a rat-infested town during the night, I bet it will add drastic improvements in the atmosphere. Here some animals and insects that will play major parts during the apocalypse. Locusts: I've watched some documentaries about a total locust infestation in wild-west america and since Chernarus is a rural place, it would be a safehaven for locusts especially when there are no more people to use massive ammounts of pesticides on them. Cockroaches: Mass infestation of cockroaches will happen in houses everywhere after the disappearance of humanity they will basically devour everything and would most likely be a large cause of food shortage. Rats: Again without anything to stop them, these things would rise out of the sewers in large numbers for the abundance of food an water on the surface, another cause of scarse resources and diseases. (I figured mass infestation of rats, cockroaches, locusts and termites would make Chernarus a pretty revolting place to be in.) Wild dogs: Domesticated dog would adapt to nature and will become vicious. Dogs with rabies are deadlier and more brutal than the infected. Once a player got rabies, death will be very slow and painful. Bears, deers, moose. Very common woodland animals,self-explanatory. Monkeys: Common test subject for laboratries, would be quite cool to see some rabid monkeys used as test subject to cure the infection. Different types of birds: As if gunshots weren't loud enough, birds are great indicators of another player's presence making for a very intense atmosphere. Some carnivorous types like crows might even be spotted pecking corpses body parts like eyeballs, adding quite some gore to DayZ. Fishes, rabbits: No need for explanations. Food source for players. Frogs: For the swamps. Can also be a food source. Fireflies, mosquitoes, flies: Fireflies to make night very lively, mosquitoes as source of the notorious killer, malaria and flies as main indicators of spoiled foods and rotten corpses. Termites: Termites are the main cause of degrading structures in the apocalypse. Without terminators we shoul expect to see quite some worn out houses and furnitures. Worms: Household fruits wouldn't last long without humans. Hedgehogs, racoons, squirell, cats Common household invaders. Would be quite a cool find and can be food sources, yes even cats. Anyway, thats all about it. For anyone complaining about a static world this more than fixes that. It also adds quite a lot to the survival aspects of DayZ and adds immersion and atmosphere enhancements. -
And my point is that, the advantage of a player should be gained by the player, not given to them with a push of a button. A stalker should have the same risks as the one being stalked when he is spotted. Right now there is literally 0 chances of being spotted when stalking anyone with 3rd person.
-
Here is where skills comes into the picture, if someone is using first person is camping on top of a roof, a skillful spotter can still see him and put a bullet through his head. 3rd person reduces the chance of the camper being spotted to 0% because he is really concealed yet still probably has 80% vision of an enemy who has no chance in hell of spotting him.
-
Combat in DayZ should be more than just that. Players should work to gain those advantages and not rely on a game mechanic that automatically gives them that advantage. Combat is not limited to your trigger fingers, being spotted is just as dangerous as being shot. 3rd person kills that by giving the opposing player 0% of spotting anyone spying on him with 3rd person. The player hunting you should have the same difficulty in concealment as well as you do, that is not the case with 3rd person. The hunter should have a natural advantage against the prey in positioning and concealment which takes skill unlike the artificial advantage that 3rd person gives you which requires no effort.
-
Not really any harmful aftermath, just endless crying from 3rd person people and probably some death threats sent to Rocket by some sensitive trolls.
-
What sacrifices do we have left to make? 3rd person players will always have the advantage, while 1st person players are always fishes in the barrel for 3rd person players, you can never change that. There's really nothing to innovate about 1st person, it immerses you into the game and make you feel like a part of the world not just a spectator, I guess that's cool enough.
-
Point taken. But, spotting someone with an invisible periscope is still unfair.
-
Sorry that's not impossible to improve upon. You gotta to stop describing the SA as if it is still a part of Arma because its not. Also debating the popularity of a feature is useless, with that logic, justin bieber is a master musician and keeps the music industry alive. Sorry, I'm here to debate 3rd person with other people, not to hear you preach about 3rd person without any contribution to the topic. Its physically impossible to see someone over a wall without exposing yourself, such basic realism shouldn't be left out of any game such as DayZ.

Buggy zombies are also part of the game ever since the start of the mod. Crosshairs have also been part of the game for as long as I remember. If you're not willing to venture new waters, then stay at home(keep playing the mod).
-
Yes. Can you please show me a source that describes DayZ as a 3rd person zombie survival game?
-
If someone picks up a briefcase with $10000 I bet not many people would really alert the authorities. That's humanity for you. Our concerns are more than just self importance, believe it or not we actually care about the direction this game is taking. I don't talk bad about 3rd person because I would dominate a server if its removed because I've been playing 1st person longer than anybody else on that server. I voice my concerns because I don't think 3rd person is appropriate for a game like DayZ.

Should we stop ranting about balance as well? What kind of unfair advantage does First person give one over another? please enlighten me.
-
@-Hawkeye- We're punishing noobies now? Inexperience is one thing, but if you use an exploit to expose someone's inexperience, then sorry but that is flat out cheating.
-
Yep, fuck balance and realism, this is the kind of mentality that makes servers with 1000+ vehicle and a full kit at spawn so popular and I bet you'd agree with me on this one, Ruined the mod.
-
@Diggydug Its already playing out right in front of our eyes. Many DayZ players are still using 3rd person to peek over hill with an invisible periscope to see a sniper 1km away. First person only is the best option we have right now to make this game fair and balance. You'll never convince me either that using an invisible periscope to peek over walls is a fair and valid play-style.
-
Been debated to death on that last 3rd person removal thread. Many people choose the path of least resistance, that's why most 1st person servers are empty. DayZ should not be the game that lets players choose if they want to play on easy or hard. This is not Minecraft.

Suggestion: Left Hand Option (W/Pictures)
landfish replied to globalfriction's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, not really realistic as most weapons I've handled in real life are strictly right handed. But gameplay should take top priority over realism. -
Really sad I know:( I don't know who is to blame though? This community which most doesn't really get what a survival game should be about or Rocket, for catering to their demands before the games own well-being? That's how corporations think, money, before the health of the product they're developing. I don't know, but if I was Rocket, I'd actually care if DayZ was a large-scale periscope battle or an intense survival game, doesn't matter if the sales of the game drops.

Alright, this is not the typical classes like in Battlefield or Cod. This is a more realistic version. So basically what I'm suggesting is more like occupations surely survivors had a job before the apocalypse? But that doesn't mean, if you choose a class, you're lock out from all other classes. So for example if you choose the option:Doctor, you won't magically be able to throw med packs that heals other players. But you'll be able to bandage yourself and other people 20% faster than other occupations, but you'll also have less ability with a firearm than someone who chose something like law enforcement, who in turn have less medical knowledge. But to prevent god-like virgins from mastering all occupations and becoming the ultimate OP loner, it should bar mastery to only one class, so for example a doctor will never be a better shooter than a soldier. The doctor can only reach 60% of firearm mastery(reduced recoil, faster reload times) While the soldier can have 100%. Same goes for all classes. There shouldn't be any indication to other players on what class you chose. This also makes it harder for any group to dominate a server because if your group is only made up of soldiers, it'll be a bitch to survive diseases and gunshot wounds. If its only doctors, it'll be harder to fend off bandits and zeds. It also reduces KOS because if you're suffering from malaria, you will think twice before shooting anyone because for all you know they might be doctors and can cure you, and if you've been stripped naked by bandits, you'll need a soldier's protection. For public hives this will greatly reduce KOS because you'll never what the most famous occupation on a server is, this will encourage co-operations among everybody if you want to survive for long.
