Isn't DayZ itself supposed to be that hardcore zombie sim that Rocket is so proud about? Just wondering, what kind of gamers is Rocket targeting with servers that are not "hardcore"? (I'm pretty certain those are the COD kiddies and dudebro gamers who makes up more than half of this community so don't brag about popularity of 3rd person to 1st person enthusiasts). This is a goddamn gift to those server owners and players who made 1000+ choppers, M4 and a full backpack at spawn so popular and ruined the mod.

There should be a fine difference between learning and mastery. You should still be able to learn the skills of a doctor but I don't think you'll ever be better at medicines than someone who have been a doctor their whole life.
-
This suggestion also adds quite a value to your character, also, imagine the increase in communications and team work in public hives. I don't think anyone is willing to shoot a doctor if they're suffering from cholera.

Weird, I posted a topic that is exactly the same as this, http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159177-classes-in-dayz/#entry1597454. Maybe my topic was harder to read? or maybe the title probably throws off a lot of people, lol. Anyway, I'm completely behind this idea. But, all professions should be accessible to everybody, even if they've already picked a profession. Maybe limit the amount of mastery they gain from their second profession. For example, a doctor can still learn to drive but not to a degree that a mechanic can. This is just so everyone has different advantages and disadvantages, and they need to work together to combat those disadvantages. This will open up ecological relationships in DayZ, like mutualism, parasitic etc.

Suggestion: Left Hand Option (W/Pictures)
landfish replied to globalfriction's topic in General Discussion
I think the shoulder switch mechanic that the last of us have is perfect for this, it will also probably allow more versatility, in movement when in cover. -
The decision of weather a feature should be removed or not, should not be for the sake of popularity but for the sake of the game. Call of Duty is the most popular game right now but does that mean the whole gaming industry has to cater to those COD gamers who makes up arguably 50% of the gaming community? Its the same case for 3rd person, just because most of your community prefers it, that doesn't mean its good for the game. This really is becoming like a religious debate, you can have a very logical argument but in the end the vocal majority always wins no matter how many reasons are represented right in front of their faces. Its really obvious now, this topic will keep popping up if Rocket keeps pretending that 3rd person is not that big of an issue. Also, what's the difference between the 3rd person button and a button that allows you to choose weather a game is at 100% difficulty or 80% difficulty?

Something I wanted to say (positive Alpha thoughts)
landfish replied to Nipson's topic in General Discussion
People should be forced to write "This is an alpha, bitching about an alpha on the forum is a sin" 50 times before they are given access to any server in DayZ. -
I want you to put a random soldier and a doctor on a shooting range, now tell me, who is the better shot? It's not really rocket science.

My post is a little bit vague in its motives. Perks and advantages is not what my suggestion is all about, but balance and cooperation. It makes the players like tools if you will, a hammer is better at indenting a nail into a wall then a pliers. Both those tools can never be one and the same as that would make player artificially too overpowered in terms of a game. But that doesn't mean the pliers will never be able to hammer in a nail, it will just take more effort. That doesn't put natural player abilities aside, if a man with pliers tries to kill another with a hammer, the man with the pliers can still outsmart the man with the hammer despite his disadvantages, it still depends on player skills, only in potentials do they differ like all humans on Earth compared to one another.

With that logic, I shouldn't be able to complain about Call of Duty for pumping out the same crap every year if I can't recreate MW2. Criticism(assuming its not a troll) should be welcomed and reasoned with if you don't agree with it, not frowned upon with childish personal insults that doesn't contribute to the discussion like you just did.

Fix combat logging, ghosting and server hopping at the same time?
landfish replied to Qinerath's topic in General Discussion
Nope, if you want to log out you shouldn't be able to do it in sight of an enemy, if you are truly in a safe place, there really is nothing to worry about the timer. If anything, the timer should be longer. -
I'm against restricting freedom in games like this and I don't think my suggestion is has anything against freedom. Its just that, you can't walk the world as hazardous as DayZ all alone and expect to survive for long and DayZ needs to take that into account, and don't you think this will give some sort background for your character so it isn't just a walking gun?

Well I think, this just gives DayZ some kind of a more sophisticated food chain. My suggestion doesn't necessarily give someone an advantage over another, each class should have its own pros and cons. To counter-act those cons players will have to co-operate with each other and cooperation and communication is something DayZ so sorely lacks. Also, advantages are very natural, humanity survived by combining each of our individual knowledge, a hunter is not gonna be able to identify a poisonous plant like a botanist and a botanist is not gonna be able to provide food like the hunter.

Though I agree with Op to some degree, you got to take into account that Rocket and his team is not as big as a development team as most commercial studios. Yes the alpha is really shitty at the moment, with barely any features worth getting excited over. But that's what it is, an alpha and DayZ is a game with massive scope, you gotta deal with the phase that Dean is going with the SA if you wanna see it grow. If DayZ will have combat that is as well developed as that of the last of us, it's not gonna be today, or tomorrow or next month, shit, the alpha barely showcases any features that Dean promised us to their full potential. All I'm saying we gotta wait a while for the game to become solid universe before we start shitting on Dean's priorities with the SA because I don't think adding an interact-able world and better graphics is as important as fixing the zombie ai, adding better vehicle physics or making servers stronger to handle more stress.

Been requested a thousand times. Most don't like the idea of artificial mechanics to control how people play. Scars ammunition and damaging loots when shooting players is already implemented to control kos.
-
You're a also forgetting that the world is overrun by bandits, diseases and the infected. 50% or more of your consumables are either rotting, expired or disease-ridden. Only 5% of humanity is alive and less than that are even healthy 95% are their predators. Not to mention they are constantly trying to kill each other and the environment is constantly trying to kill them. Only a mentally-challenged child will think of being a king of a basically dead world by the use of jewelries.

This game should be prohibitively difficult.
landfish replied to autoloon's topic in General Discussion
I'm with you brother. I'm really tired of games dumbing down its elements because lot of 10 year olds and COD players say so. I'm just a tad concerned that when we reached the desired difficulty for the SA, the community will become like the Battlefield community. Basically wanting to nerf guns because they kill people. -
exstensive list of suggestions for SA
landfish replied to DropBearChick's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
No-_- Dual wielding is impractical and very unrealistic, you don't see soldiers doing this shit in warzones and you sure as hell ain't gonna see civilians doing it during the apocalypse. Sure it can be added, you just have to take into account the extremely long reload times and the real shitty accuracy.(If that's the case, very few players will be doing it, just a waste of time for the Dev team to add) Another crap suggestion. There is probably 1% chance of a throwing knife(being held by a civilian) being fatal or even causing a serious injury and that's being generous. And as leviski said, you won't see those kind of guns in countries like chernarus. Even if you do, they shouldn't be included in DayZ for the sake of balance and the KOS mentality. They serve no purpose but promote shooting of unprovoked players. Waste of time and resources. This is just a tool for trolls and will destroy the serious and tense atmosphere of DayZ. Can you just imagine some trolls teabagging and having a silly dance over a dead body? Just.... wtf are you thinking man, are you high or something? Other than that, most of these suggestions are great. -
Should there be Character Progression in the SA?
landfish replied to WBK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually think a GTA online kind of approach to character progression is the way to go. It's really subtle and nothing too drastic, the more you run, the more stamina your body builds up, the more you shoot your reload speed could speed up by 1 seconds at max and recoil could decrease a bit, same thing with swimming. The thing is, those attributes takes a really long time to improve, when you level up those attributes(no huds should indicate this) you won't even notice it. But the difference is, when you die in a server, it resets back to zero. The wiping out of character progression should be the main threat in the SA, It'll make people think twice before participating in stupid actions. -
I know its been discussed alot but, note book?
landfish replied to Oliver Riedel's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Good idea, don't filter out the swear words though, like "fuck","shit" and other vulgar expressions, those are commonly used by role-players like "Fuck, I think I aggro those zeds". Also, there are so many ways to write stupid shit, it'll be impossible to completely filter them out from the game. I think Rocket should hire 100 internet virgin alpha no-life 4chan-dwelling trolls and 12 years old kids and ask them to write as many retarded words they can think of and then filter out those words. -
[SA] Drastically increase vehicle number, make fuel currency
landfish replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is the most sensible suggestion I've read for a long time. Fuel is limited even before the apocalypse, I'm pretty sure when the apocalypse hit, fuel will be as, if not, more valuable than guns. -
Does anyone even remember what DayZ is?
landfish replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It always has been and always will be but not at this scale. There will always be that one dude who will kill people just for the hell of it but now, there's nothing really to gain from not killing people. Every decision you make just ends with kos because there is lack of motivation to communicate with other players. The reason the mod is it is now is because it doesn't really encourage people to choose an alternative route that doesn't involve killing, this maybe because of the lack of options. Clearly the SA is trying to solve this issue with all those new additions in the dev blogs, we just have to wait and see. -
Does anyone even remember what DayZ is?
landfish replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is what happens when you give people too much choice. Your vision of an intense zombie survival mmo transforms into a shoot'em up with high-end military weapons and thousand of vehicles. -
I really hope Rocket doesn't allow modding for SA.
landfish replied to billyangstadt's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You my friend doesn't understand the meaning of "genre". I came to DayZ to play an intense zombie mmo and quite frankly, all those kind of shitty mods and servers with thousands of weapon and vehicles have been watering down my experience so far since vanilla and true DayZ servers are now relicts and its very rarely that I experience what I came for. If this is the kind of servers and mods you come and play in DayZ, why not just play Arma?
