How are we supposed to play the game right now?

Well you have a point, I play on some servers that say persistance enabled as well the plain generic non named servers(LA,NY,ATL etc). I'm not sure which one is telling the truth, I mean people name them friendlyhighlootnopvpclanserverjoin=kick but I always have the same character with respects to 3rd person/1st person hives. I usually have no need for trivial loot like canned food/drink after about 25 to 30 minutes, as I've usually acquired all the stuff I need to survive, melee weapon/fishing pole with hook, water bottle and a backpack. Maybe I'm just lucky in finding loot

How are we supposed to play the game right now?

Where is loot scarce? On a 40/40 server last night Berezino still had loot, enough to get semi geared. I'm not sure where you guys are looking but loot is everywhere. There were food houses passed over everywhere even in the middle of a death match with 12 to 15 people shooting anything that moved. My idea of semi geared maybe different than most, hat, gloves, jacket, a garden hoe or splitting axe and my hunger and thirst status in check. Even found materials to make an improvised backpack and a bit of shotgun ammo. Hell if you can't find food eat apples to get you by until you find proper food Edit: look at the pic Odin Lowe posted, if you manage to find the proper materials you'll never go hungry again

How are we supposed to play the game right now?

Why do you feel the game is too difficult? If you came to chernarus to "test guns", I hope you do it way out in the wilderness because if you are complaining about a few zombies, I would recommend never shooting your gun in a city. Clothing and food are not hard to find if you know where to look, get out of the rain and wring your clothes out until you find a waterproof jacket. This game is turning into a full on battle between players, the elements and soon we will get more zeds to round it all off. Yes this alpha test phaze is buggy as hell and is going to cause you a lot of rage. Prepare your magical jailhouse pocket, its only gonna get harder from here to survive

I think the old man zombie is kinda creepy looking, even more so than the little crawly zombies. The truck model looks nice too, can't wait to see that bad boy rolling down the road

    How to Approach other players?

There is no specific answer to your question, some will be friendly but most will kill you straight out. Your best bet is just to observe and be cautious but when you do try to engage them in conversation be prepared to die. Its a 50/50 shot if someone is gonna kos but all you can do is try. Be careful of people who claim friendly but then smack you around when you have your back turned

    "Fishing Hook" alternatives

Love the idea, hooks seem to be hit or miss when it comes to finding them. I tend to find them in small sheds, the 2 story metal sheds(the ones with stairs), storage units or in grocery stores. Being able to craft them would be a nice addition to the "survival" aspect of the game. As far as more fish types, I think for testing purposes one type will be sufficient. Beans to the OP for the improvised fishing hook idea
  7. Sorry if it seemed like I was complaining, its all part of the game. Its just disappointing to try to help peeps and they have other plans for your gear. Oh well, maybe I will give the bandit life a try because I've been a hero so long. It will he difficult for me to adjust but being on the wrong end of a situation gets old real fast
  8. Sad thing is I've had to adjust my play style to what the op stated. I'm tired of helping people only to get axed/crowbar in the back, which sucks because I did enjoy helping people but not anymore. I will still do the traveling junk salesman/trader but I'm gonna have to start popping people if they follow me. Like last night, I was showing a player how to fish and what an ashwood tree looks like and such and as I'm doing this he tries to punch my motorcycle helmet so I beat him to death with my retractable baton. He then goes into a sob story about how he just needed stuff that I had, so I told him all he had to do was ask me for anything except for a gun and I would have given it to him.

    Better starting kit

With the temperature system the way it is now you'd freeze your winky off before you could find clothes. Besides I just don't want to see another mans junk flappin in the breeze

    Schools/Office building.

Schools do seem to spawn guns at a lower rate. I seem to be finding more sporters and shotguns in schools. Loot is still findable just takes a bit of searching but it can be found. Magazines still seem to spawn at a low rate but I've found them for my sporter in a fire station so I'm set for now. Still haven't found any optics for my buddies SKS or his mosin but we've been occupied searching for choppers atm.

    First Heli

Found one last night, had a visible cloud of smoke way up in the of nowhere. Found 2 fnx45s, a bit of ammo scattered around and a beret. Not real sure if we were the first ones on the scene but it had a very wrong feeling to it as we were paranoid about getting sniped. Still a good find on the pistols, I can at least give a bit of resistance to an attacker

    Lets discuss misclick experiences

Was in a 2 story tan colored house with the 2 beds and has a door leading back outside exit. My clan leader and I were taking refuge after a fire fight and I started to desync bad, long story short I saw him go into another room and disappear. I left the house and then reentered and I saw another player in the house I freaked out and shot once at close range with my new SKS. My friend shouts get down were under fire, then I realized I had just shot my friend. We both had a good laugh while smoking a bowl, I'm still waiting on payback for that one

    fishing ain't easy

Farming hoes, shovels and splitting axes take up 4 to 5 slots if you want to keep a lower profile you could get away with having and improvised pack, taloon pack or a hunting backpack. Just keep the fishing pole on your back and your tools in your bag. Also the ashwood stick can be used as a club, I believe it will knock a player out in 1 or 2 hits to the dome. May just give you enough time to escape a potentially dangerous situation, if you want avoid killing another player

    fishing ain't easy

I usually keep the fishing rod on my back and a shovel or a farming hoe in my back pack. Sure it eats up a bit of space but it avoids dropping items and possibly losing them. If you have enough space in your pack you can store your fishing rod there as well. I believe it takes 6 slots vertically

Mistakes you see people do all the time in DayZ

People mistakenly using the direct chat button instead of their team speak button. Its pretty funny to see how people react when they realize their blunder. They always seem to have that oh shit look when you pull a pistol or sawn off shotty and then pop them for broadcasting that they intend to rob a kill you soon and need some assistance just in case

    Allies Victorious!

I think Cap'n is overjoyed because the devs announced they are working on 5.45x39mm ammo so the aks74u can use its proper cartridge along with some other lewts for future updates

    Why does everyone kill me?!

Dayz has a very steep learning g curve, you unfortunately broke one of the main rules of Dayz. Assume everyone at the airfields are hostile. People pretend to be hurt or friendly just to lure you in and bam, headshot or lit up with a full auto rifle. Next time be a bit more cautious when following the voices calling for help. Always scout out the area before rushing in like gangbusters.I understand your frustration with the people who play Dayz strictly for the PvP aspect of the game but PvP is and always will be a part of the game. They have a right to play as they wish, its an effective way to get the items one needs to survive but some do it to be jerks. It sucks but its not gonna change until private hive become available so people can whitelist and set rules on their private shard.

    Anyone ever hunt rabbit?

Mmmm hossenfeffer, man I can believe you shot him with a mosin. He should have been a giant puff of fur from that range, I tend to shoot em with 20 gauge Mossberg. Sure you have to clean all of the pellets out of them but they is still tasty. Poor wabbit never stood chance

    How was your Day(Z)?

Had a rough day, log in and instantly find some action because I spawned a bit back from the area I logged out at last night, so I got boned and found myself standing in the open near the neaf. I was immediately robbed then shot due to having "junk" nobody wanted. I tried to explain I was a medic and a trader but nope got shot in the face for my troubles. Respawned near solinichny and found stuff to make an improvised backpack and 2 extra pieces of rope. So now I gotta try to find more medical supplies and I'll be back in business

Status Report - Week of 01 September 14

Its still there for me occasionally, the keys are more responsive but it will happen. Are we sure they are actually talking about a leather bifold or trifold wallets or is it more of a smaller manpurse?(for lack of a better term) In some of the fantasy novels people carry small leather wallets that they carry items in when traveling like food, small items of value or important documents. That's just the thought I had when they said leather wallet. Yes please on the dime bags, I always have matches to um burn things and it would probably make this carp taste better...until I can get some proper seasonings

    was this a hacker?

Not sure if it was a hacker/scripter that killed you. Someone could have been overlooking your position from a different location. That being said, I'm not saying there weren't shenanigans involved in your death such as wall glitching. There are times when you are sniped that you don't always hear shots fired though. I know its no consultation but maybe someone else can shed more light on it

Starting to think I'm too nice of a player.

No worries mate, I've got thick skin. I tend to shy away from all the killing that happens in chernarus, most of the time I try to find civilian weapons(shotguns, pistols, bows and .22's) rather than brave the airfields or military spawns on a near full or full server. As far as the medic thing goes, I tend to carry bandages/rags, moriphine, sticks(for splints if no morphine is available), charcoal tabs and tetracycline as well as food and drink. I look at myself as more of a traveling yard sale because every now and then I find someone who is willing to trade or needs some rope for a backpack/courier bag or needs help locating an ashwood stick for a fishing pole. Until we get a more in depth medical system and diseases this is about the only things I can provide others

Status Report - Week of 01 September 14

Nice, its gonna be a tough adjustment for people who have no idea how to survive off of the land. I see a lot of butthurt and frustration because some were to busy to be bothered to learn what an ashwood tree looks like for a fishing pole or now you're going to have to make room in your inventory for tool like a hoe or a shovel and a knife for dressing the animal carcasses. There will be an increase of banditry with this aspect as well because people will need stuff and its far easier to rob or kill you for your stuff than to learn how to get it. Just another curve ball the devs are throwing our way

    Considering playing on 'merican servers

You're spot on with your assumption, not every one here has a giant gun and yells Merica when they kill you. I'd say its about on par with most servers, some shoot on sight, some are cautious observers and some just want to be left alone. I will say though peeps on the EU servers are a tad bit friendlier but that's just my experience
  25. tobias winfro

Starting to think I'm too nice of a player.

See you assume I am looking for a reason to "start shooting", truth be told I would rather not shoot you. I've been killed far too many times by friendlies at any military spawn to take any other approach to these areas. I usually play as a medic, yes I may have a gun, mainly a pistol can if I'm lucky I might get ahold of a sporter. That's why I'm at the military bases looking for magazines for my sporter or a better gun but I try to avoid them if I can, I try find someone to trade with for what I need Now if I'm in a barracks or jail building and you are a server hopper, yes I am gonna kill you on principle because the moment you see me you are gonna try to do the same. It sucks that others force me to take this approach to this game but it is how most people I've encountered play the game
