  1. My last encounter was in Berenzino at the hospital, 2 of my friends were looting the hospital and patching each other up when I see a guy over at one of the water wells. I informed my buddies and went to get a better angle on our new friend, I said over chat, "hey bro, I see you over there and 2 other dudes have you in their sights. We are only gonna be here for a few more seconds but when we go you are free to loot the hospital." I informed him we were not out to kill anyone but that axe you are carrying is making my buddies real nervous, so please don't come around the corner with it out. He says "dude I was held up by another player and force fed rotten fruit and needed meds badly. He put the axe on the ground and said I'm gonna die soon if I can't get help." Now at this point I felt compelled to help out but its a bad news/good news situation, bad news is no charcoal tabs or alcohol tinctures in the hospital to heal his sickness and the infected wounds he was harboring. Good news is we had a ton of medical supplies and needed room for more ammo/loot. After we got him all patched up and gave him a can opener, a few cans of beans and a few water bottles we sent him on his way. He thanked us a thousand times for not shooting him. That's my story, sorry that its a bit long.
  2. Hang in there, there are decent players in the game. Most people are too scared to respond. Not everyone shares your ideas on wanting to communicate with others, so be careful when approaching others. To answer your question though, I usually run into 3 or 4 people a day in the smaller inland towns/villages. Most are friendly and will ask for help or advice but then some will run away/log out at the first sign of contact, some will bum rush you for your loot. A lot depends on the server you choose, some do have helpful people but most of the servers are full of people who want to play TDM.

    Non kos servers?

I am not insisting killing/PvP needs to be removed from this alpha/game, I understand that it's a vital part of Dayz. I am not saying I am for or against a PvE environment but why is it that when a newer player or anyone for that matter asks that question about PvE servers or non-Kos server everyone gets all bent out of shape? I realize there isn't much to do at this point in alpha but there is a portion of the of the community that is new to this game, most have watched the videos or read countless hours of forum post and now they are coming into the alpha and have questions but instead of answers people are getting a severe case of either lead poisoning, rotten food poisoning or a fatal overdose of disinfectant. I am not accusing everyone of killing on sight but why can't people take a minute or 2 out of their day to answer a new players question? Now don't get me wrong, I've ran into my fair share of crazy people who just spawned and make a b-line for you because they don't have much to lose. People should be a bit tentative about contacting other players outside of their buddy list, that was the major draw to this game for me but how much fun is it for anyone to wash up on shore look around for a second or 2 before getting one of the 3 aforementioned types of poisoning. I just don't understand why no one wants to help anyone learn the game or give them an environment to learn how the ingame mechanics work. This game has a steep learning curve, a lot of people don't stand a chance a lone zed but you felt it was a good idea to end their torment with a bullet or an axe to the face instead of trying to offer advice or to simply set back and laugh as they get mauled to death. Are people that afraid of a bit of competition that they see even a guy/gal freshly spawned in with....you guessed it a flashlight and 9V battery as that big of a threat? Was killing that new guy/gal really worth wasting bullets on?

    Non kos servers?

Dayz was not built by all of the raging maniacs who run around shooting everything that moves, it was the "bandits" who made this game/mod what it was. When I started in the mod, bandits were more likely to rob you than kill you. Now you guys run about running and gunning and think that's being a bandit, its not that's called KOS. Now my question is, why do most of you have an issue with servers who want to promote teamwork or an environment for players to learn the ins and outs of Dayz. Why is it that most of you think your style of play is what everyone wants or should be forced into? Here's a suggestion if you don't want to be associated with a PvE server or a no KOS server, just bypass it. If a player asks why can we not have a PvE server, a lot of the forum people rage about how your trying to ruin the game blah blah blah, but why should people be shoehorned into that style? Did anyone ever think you maybe ruining other people's experiences? Or is it, the well I payed my 30 bucks, so to hell with anyone else or the money they spent to play the way they wanted
  5. tobias winfro

    Everyone evil?

Shhh...don't complain too much, the "bandit" crowd will whine that you are ruining their fun. I'm not talking about the ones who rob you, I'm talking about the people who play this game like its battlefield 4 or cod. You know the ones armed to the teeth that think they are making the game what it is by destroying everyone and everything in sight, new spawn or not
  6. tobias winfro

Most of the suggestions for reducing KoS

Well if you tell the PvP crowd they can't shoot everything that's moves, they get upset and tell you that you are ruining their fun, if you tell the PvE crowd that your hive has full on PvP they get upset because the game should be played cooperatively. My point is neither side is going to agree. So let's all just agree to disagree on this subject
  7. We have people playing on our server that are from Australia, Sweden and a few other places across the pond and they usually ping about 110-120 and they say its not a big issue

    Melee is now Pointless

To the op, I would give up on trying to defend yourself to people here. I've seen several awesome responses to your problem but most have been negative. I realize you are/were frustrated but it seems people are now just trying to push your buttons. I've lurked on these forums for awhile and most of the posts like yours always turn into pointless anger and hatred for anyone who has an opinion that is different. I hope that I don't sound too assholish but 4 pages in and people are still trying to bait you, that seems a bit childish. Beans to you for sharing your frustration and putting up with the trolling this thread contains

    Melee is now Pointless

I'm sorry if I sounded like a spoiled brat or an elitist jerk, I didn't think my post sounded like that. I offered my story but I don't remember telling you that you're doing it wrong. I'm sorry you feel that way and yes melee combat can feel kind of wonky but I've died plenty of times trying to get the hang of it. Just my 3 cents

    Melee is now Pointless

It may seem that way to you but I still melee the infected and have only been infected a few times since they were patched in. Maybe you're just having a bit of bad luck but it seems there are still a few of us that aren't having that issue. That's the beauty of dayz, you don't have to be tied down to 1 play style

    Everything has changed! Please, help!

You can install multiple mods at once, I would recommend at least trying them all just to see what you've missed. Not all mods are created equal though, there are many good mods and there are some bad ones too, I would suggest you do a bit of reading on each mod. Some of the files can be a bit big so if you're like me and don't have the greatest internet connection you can afford to be a bit picky or you could just let it work its magic and go catch a movie while you wait.

    new player, by tuesday hopefully

Welcome to the end of the world, hope you find a good hive that offers more than the KOS douche bags that seem to plague this game. Don't forget to boil your water and cook your meat. Zeds seem to be a bit more twitchy in the new build so be careful...

    Your First Time Playing DayZ

I was somewhat nervous those first few log ins but I learned real quick to bolt for the trees. First time I played I tried to be friendly with people but after getting shot in the face a few times I decided to just avoid people. I played for awhile and didn't say anything to anyone, then I met a bandit trying to crawl 3000 meter back to a hospital for blood and moriphine and I had to make a quick decision, shoot him/her or patch em up. That bandit ended up giving me my first real gun an aks74 kobra for fixing him/her up. 10 minutes later that bandit and his/her crew ran me over with a black SUV because I thought standing in the middle of the road trying to catch a ride was a good idea

    Why am I being kicked?

Well we need a bit more information, like the reasons why you are being kicked. Are you spamming in side chat? How is your ping to the servers you are connecting to? Are you trying to use the map and click on the server control button? Public or Private hives? All of these things are relevant otherwise all we can only speculate on why you are getting kicked

  16. Sorry for any confusion, we are actually on 1.7.7 for cherno now not 1.7.6
  17. Its don't hate the player, hate the game but OP I think its time to cut your losses and find a different server. It seems you aren't going to be able to reason with this group of admins unless you play by their rules and join their forums
  18. Nothing much to do other than name and shame. Sorry you've had trouble with a douche bag admin, there are a lot of good servers out there, it just trial and error now. I'm sure if you read some threads you can definitely find a new home. It took me almost a month to find a good home, had some similar issues on a few servers but then I started doing searches and found a place to call home. Some will suggest balota buddies but I would say if you want something else, take your time in finding one. Hope to see you on the road some day and good luck
  19. Well if its an admin kick/ban you may have to go to the owner of the servers web page/ forums and appeal there. If it is a battle eye ban you will need to appeal to battle eye because we have no control over battle eyes kicks or ban process. Sorry, I realize that's isn't much help but its the only advice we can give here other than trying to find a new server if its just an admin kick

    I'm new, hello.

If you're looking for a good place to hang your hat, try Sweeney's server. Its a good place to get your feet wet. He's got some decent stuff in the server and we all try to pitch in and help each other out. If you try another hive, stick to the woods and keep your head down. Hatchets are awesome for killing zeds and breaking into hospitals, just don't forget to reload it. Oh and welcome to Dayz, don't get attached to your belongings because its a cruel world and on some servers a lot of people have a kill on sight mentality
  21. I really wish more people would try this server, great admins and a small but awesome group of people to play with and chat with. Don't let the no PvP on north island push you away. Plenty of vehicles and plenty of space, easy to find a base and take it over. Awesome server sweendawg

Never played DayZ before and needing advice.

Welcome to Dayz, its OK for you to not trust people straight out of the gate. There are a lot of decent people that play, although there are a lot of KOS people as well. Find a hatchet, don't forget to reload it. Keep your head down and try sticking to the woods as much as you can. Hope you can find a decent hive to call home and be careful if you find a Lee Enfield as its been nicknamed the dinner bell for a reason. Good luck

Hello , I need a server to bend in.

Why is it that people get so defensive when a player says they aren't good at PvP or wish to be left out of the TDM that goes on in a lot of servers. Why do people think that their idea of "fun" works for everyone? Yes this is a PvP oriented game but I think the OP is asking for is a spot where they can explore without being shot on sight by some douche bag while he is armed with a bandaid and a flashlight. I really hope you find a decent hive so you can get a better Dayz experience.
  24. tobias winfro

    Hello survivors

Oh one more thing don't underestimate the hatchet, very good for being stealthy and getting into the hospital if no one has been there before you. Just remember when you equip it, you have to hit the r key to reload it. Don't be afraid to try different hives/maps, each offers a different experience. Pine trees can be your friends because the zeds lose line of sight if you run through them. Its kinda cheap but it will help you lose agro

    Hello survivors

Welcome to Dayz my friend, just remember not everyone is friendly. Just don't get too attached to your guns/backpack or other items because this game can be brutal. Hope you can find a good hive to play on because not all are created equal. Always keep your head down and stick to the woods as much as you can. Hope to see you on the road someday
