DayZ Video - The Nicest Bandits Ever

What sort of tomfoolery is this? Actual player interaction that doesn't involve killing? Nice negotiating with those 2 for food, its nice to see people actually bartering, at gun point but its good to see people working together when they could have easily shot you instead. Beans to you and to the 2 gentlemen who spared your life
  2. OK so why have a working vehicle if you aren't going to drive it? Storage? Or is it a bait car? I hope the dev team is working on more pressing issues like zombies glitching through floors and walls or actually getting loot to respawn before they give us new means to troll others or give us more ways to store stuff.
  3. I don't get why people are so gung ho about vehicles, does walking/running across the map bother people that much? I could see basic transportation like a bicycle later on in development but if you add in vehicles, now you're talking a whole new set of items to add to the loot table like gasoline and car parts. One thing at a time, let the dev team work on fixing the existing issues with the game. I may be wrong, I usually am but I can only see a few reasons why some think vehicles are needed. Reason #1 drive bys, reason #2 to get back to your bullet riddled corpse before server restart or someone comes along to relieve you of your items but just let it be man, you can acquire more lewt even on a medium to high pop server and last but not least... bait car. I've seen too many people fall for this one when I was a server admin for the mod, quite hilarious actually.

    My First Human Contact

Well don't feel bad, its just one of those things that happens. Live and learn I guess but its cool that you were able to team up with someone else and have a bit of fun.

    trading with players

I like the system how it is, if they can somehow reduce the time for a dropped it to appear or fix the dropped items not appearing bug I think things would be better. We don't need safe zones for trades, as was stated before that's not part of Dayz. People are going to cheat you, just like in the real world but that doesn't go for everyone you meet. I've recently had 2 positive trades with some seemingly shady individuals but maybe I was lucky.

[Experimental] The Art Of Dim Mak

This is good news I think, now if we can get them to swarm when someone fires a gun people might think twice about shooting someone else. Now we will have to listen to people bitch about the zeds being too hard

    i lost it

My bad, I saw the school part but missed the electro part
  8. tobias winfro

    i lost it

I never knew there was an etiquette to follow for logging out after combat. The OP never stated which city they were in, hell they could have been in the middle of cherno or electro, so escape may have not been an easy thing. Everyone deals with a situation in different ways and I realize the OP asked an open ended question but you can't expect everyone to act in a linear fashion. How long do you expect people to wait around to see if anyone else is coming to investigate? Maybe the OP needed time to digest what just happened because it sounds to me like they haven't been on the right side of many 3 on 1 gun fights

    i lost it

So you call him/her a combat logger for logging out about 1 minute after going on a murderous rampage? What is the proper time to exit after a firefight? I'm just curious

PVE or How to m ake Chernarus a better place?

I too would like to see the devs avoid using instancing. The idea of the walkie talkies being used to coordinate the raid is a good one. The getaway would be a riot because you would be making "noise" on the server and I'm sure the bandits would respond in turn. I mean if you just had a major run on these warehouses, everyone and their brother would be coming for you, for said loot you just acquired. I realize this contradicts what I said above but being a bandit doesn't mean you kill everything that moves. Yes I'm sure there would be casualties, I mean who doesn't love a good firefight? Everything you are able to get in Dayz should feel like its earned.

PVE or How to m ake Chernarus a better place?

Aincha, I feel ya. The group I run with, we've done a bit of everything from banditry to trying to be heroes. I do enjoy the interactions with other players and we do try to leave the servers we play on, in better shape then when we began there. I believe this game would be so much better if we could eliminate most of the idiots who proclaim its part of Dayz to be able to do and act as I wish, from killing vets to new players. I have no problems with PvP, I do have an issue with those who think that everyone needs to he shoehorned into 1 play style and that is shoot everyone and everything that moves. This is my opinion, it isn't a popular one but I do feel we would have more players if they didn't get shot or subjected to the dumb shit that people think is fun. Fun for you doesn't mean fun for all, I am all for controlled PvP. By that I mean there needs to be a place, a server or a town where new people can learn to play without fear of some dumb ass sniping them in the hills above Cherno or Electro or any hot spots, oh and I forgot about Major stupidity and General nonsense running around playing tdm with the newbies because someone needs to show them what Dayz is all about

PVE or How to m ake Chernarus a better place?

I like the idea of players working toward a common goal, however there are some in the Dayz community who are going to rip you from one end to the other for even suggesting anything remotely similar to a PvE setting. Even if what you suggest was only one small area of the map, you are going to hear a lot of negativity, you will hear about making this a loot simulation or blah blah blah don't you dare try to take away my fun because its not what Dayz is. Unfortunately until we get private hives that will be what you hear. I am not suggesting everyone feels this way but a large majority feel that Dayz is a giant team death match and if you don't like it you are a care bear or you just plain suck and that's why you want to change the game. Bottom line, we all paid our 30 bucks and we are free to play however we wish, with the understanding that Dayz is supposed to be harsh. Until zombies become more of a threat, you will have to deal with those asshats who want to "ruin" others experiences

    Login and dead?!

Well your character stays in game for 30 seconds after you log out, is it possible that you were attacked by a zed or another player? There is also a bug where your character resets on login. I've seen a bunch of those threads lately, either way it sucks and I feel your pain

NWAF - You lied to me

Try looking under the hangers at the NEAF or you could try to find the bush wookies in the hills overlooking cherno and electro....leave the bambis alone. We will need them for later, like when we get cars. I can't wait to see all of the road kill between berenzino and balota

    Potential player for Dayz

Yes there is a lot of backstabbing and all sorts of treachery when other players get involved. Seriously though, if you have to engage other people, don't sound like a total douchebag. There are times when you will perceive the events around you as a no win situation but you get out unscathed, then there are times when you might get a chance to escape and get axed/shot in the back. Each encounter you have will be different just keep an eye on the surroundings and keep a look out for the sneaky guy trying to flank you. "New/fresh" spawns aren't always new players, keep them in front of you and never let them out of your sight, as most people are looking to gear up and get back to playing team death match. Cherno, Electro, Balota and the northeast and northwest airfields are not good places for you to go unless you have a death wish, are geared up or you are Morgan Freeman but last I saw he got gunned down too so that's not even a sure bet. Bandits and KOSers are 2 different things, so try not to get them confused but occasionally you will meet a hero, who will do his or her damnedest to assist you. I've only met a few of them, some are cool but most come off as that creepy old pedophile living in your neighborhood trying to lure kids into their house with promise of candy, booze or cigarettes. Oh and ladders are not your friend. No matter how inviting they look, they are never to be trusted

    Potential player for Dayz

You should be OK to run the game, no there is no try it before you buy it. Check out some YouTube videos if you haven't already just to get some background on the game. As for survival tips, get off the coast asap. Even though people shout friendly or type it in chat, be very cautious around other players. Not everyone is going to shoot you on sight, you may be detained, feed rotten food or disinfectant spray but don't worry, not everyone is this way. Most fresh spawns have nothing to lose by dying so they may just run at you swinging away like Mike Tyson just to get your loot. Take your time and scope out the situation when entering cities or military barracks. While there is a server hopping timer, people will camp and server hop to get geared up, just keep an eye on things around you. Most people at the military sights are presumed to be hostile and will kill you no matter what they say. I would also suggest a low population server until you get the hang of playing and if it all possible, get a buddy or 2 to run with. Chernarus is a big map and gets quite boring running with no back up or at least someone to talk to. Last but not least don't get attached to your gear, Dayz is a cruel mistress and this is alpha. You will encounter bugs and other inconveniences that will make you want to break something. Good luck and hope to see you down the road some day. Oh the 30 dollars is for the Dayz Standalone alpha. There is a Dayz mod but its for arma 2, while it is built from the mod, standalone is a seperate monster. Hope this helps

Impossible to be "Friendly" in this game. Resorted to Banditry.

Everyone pulls the "I'm friendly or the I wouldn't have shot you" card when you have them dead to rights. People arent too brave while staring down the barrel of a gun or if they don't have back up. Next time just feed him a bit more lead and keep your eyes out for incoming back up
  18. tobias winfro

    Should i feel bad?

Don't feel bad, if he was silly enough to go afk fully geared on sniper hill or anywhere that is traveled then that's on him. Trust me he will feel bad for about a minute when he respawns then he will get more loot and go back to doing whatever it was he was doing before getting beat to death

    Shooting in the legs

Shot a guy in the legs at about 10m with an SKS, broke his legs because he was too dumb to make sure his mic wasn't broadcasting. I heard him tell his buddies he was gonna try to rob me with no bullets. One round spent, then I went around and got a zombie train to assist with his passing into the spirit world

    Allow Server Configurable Pve Only

Well "weekly bullshit" like this comes about when players have questions or opinions. Tell me, of your nearly 2600 posts how many have been bullshit to people other than you? Cut people some slack man. KerrSG1, unfortunately you are going to have to wait until they implement private hives. That's just the unfortunate truth, however there are a lot of good servers out there currently. Don't fall for the no KOS or PvE loot servers nonsense, only thing out there is public hive. They must follow a strict set of rules and enforcing PvE isn't one of them. Not everyone is of the KOS mentality but you need to face the music, most people are. Most people see you or any other player as a threat and they wanna be safe too, easiest way for them to accomplish that is to shoot first, ask questions later. That's the cold hard truth of Dayz, that will never change. Only thing you can do is try different servers or even a low pop server but always be on your guard
  21. tobias winfro

    Allow Server Configurable Pve Only

    Sorry, double post
  22. tobias winfro

    Allow Server Configurable Pve Only

Sorry to the OP but you aren't going to get people to see your vision of the game. After reading a lot of the pro PvP posts, all I am seeing is "don't you dare try to ruin my fun by not letting me rob or kill you". In time, when we are further along in development, I'm sure people will get their private hives. For now we must all put up with the douchebaggery that seems to gravitate toward Dayz. Yes I enjoy certain aspects of PvP and PvE but right now we can only play the hand we are dealt but I would imagine if the might orlok or one of the other forum mods proclaimed their love for PvE environments most of these people would be kissing ass and giving beans like crazy. Don't get too upset about being killed, that's the beauty of Dayz. You find stuff and make due while you're alive, then rinse and repeat. It sucks but its the end of the world. One question for the OP, do you watch the walking dead? Cause that isn't always sunshine and roses....just sayin

    My friend, the psycho

I can't believe I'm saying this but I think your friend did that guy a favor. If he was bleeding that bad then there was a chance he could have infected wounds too and depending on when the server restarts, he may not have found what he needed to heal. I've been in that situation before and if I meet a player or am with a friend I will ask them to end my suffering
  24. tobias winfro

    Non kos servers?

I am sorry man, I was being a bit sarcastic. That is the generic response I see so many times on this forum when people are questioned on their motives for killing. To answer you question I am not sure as to why its still not finished. I would imagine Rocket and the team at Bohemia Interactive are the ones to ask about that. Before anyone jumps me about it, yes I knowingly bought into an alpha phase of SA. I knew there would be growing pains and often times not much content. I never thought everyone would sit around the campfire sharing beans and water bottles singing and dancing into the wee hours of the morning but I also didn't think it would turn into the old west so fast. Also if you don't see a need to buy into the alpha right now, that's your choice. There are still some bugs that are utterly frustrating like falling off a ladder 2 feet off the ground when you are fully geared and break your neck but you can fall from a 2nd level of a building and nothing happens to you. I can't recommend SA over the mod, I still play the breaking point mod for arma 3 when I get frustrated with SA but I don't think the shoot on sight mentality will lessen when they add more features. Even in the mod people still use that old crutch, "I am bored, there's nothing to do but gear up and go kill people."
  25. Well guys/gals I will tell you this, I am no saint. I've gunned down several players because they don't listen or won't listen to me when I ask them to lower their weapon or run at you like a mad man with some sort of melee weapon. I don't try to make friends with everyone I see but I always state my intentions. I have always told people i meet that I have no intention to kill you but I will put a bullet in your ass if you are looking for trouble. I understand peoples frustration with the guys who play this game like its bf4 or c.o.d., however I also understand you payed your money, you can play how you like. I have been gunned down more times than I care to remember but I still refuse to be that guy and shoot anything that moves. A good friend of mine explained to me that sometimes killing is nessesary but it doesn't mean you have to kill everyone. Matter of fact that is how I met most of my clan. We don't run around trying to be heroes but we will offer any bit of help we can to people. Most of the time it works out well but then we've been on the wrong end of the situation as well. Unlike a lot of Dayz vets I will not tell you that there is only 1 way to play this game or the mod, that's for you to decide but don't fall into the shoot first ask questions later trap. Its hard to get out of that mentality but like I said before I can understand the frustration of trying to be friendly, only to get a severe case of lead poisoning for your troubles. Once again sorry for the long post
