Trust me dude, the shooting/killing aspect of standalone has been tested extensively, putting peeps together just caters to the gotta shoot everything that moves mentality... can't we all just get along haha. Actually the new spawns aren't that bad, just a bit different than cherno/electro/balota spwans
-
Just a bit of bad luck I think. Depends on the town really, I mean if you are in one of the towns just west of where the new spawn points are, then yes you will meet peeps trying to get loot and whatnot. I found out the hard way, I was chillin in a house in north dubrovka just sorting my loot and met 4 people. Shot 2 because they tried to axe me or shoot and killed a 3rd because he came into the room I was in even after I asked him to stay out. He came in and got some lead poisoning for his troubles. I did feel like a heel afterwards because I realized my mic had been muted the whole time. So if you are/were that guy in north dubrovka about 11 pm last night who got shot up in the 2 story green house, I am sorry

Glitch abusers have found their way into the appartments now..
tobias winfro replied to toasted duckie's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure the devs are aware of it, rocket had posted on reddit a week or 2 ago about testing a fix for people glitching in the jail walls and I'm sure they know about other glitch areas. Be patient they will be dealt with soon enough -
Yeah it could have been, sorry I edited my post after you quoted me. Its just sickening to hear and yes I'm an African American, no I don't use the word, never have, never will. Just my 2 cents
-
Same here couldn't stomach it. I mean honestly did mom or step dad teach em new word?? Education at its finest, I mean damn if a black person says it, its a term of endearment or friendship. Let a non black person say it and they want to fight or kill someone, you can't have it both ways people.

10 minutes after I finished downloading standalone, I spawned in balota and started to loot one of the buildings. It was the first day standalone was available and there were very few zeds. 2 guys kept hounding me while I was trying to get some food and supplies, one of them told me if I didn't leave they would shoot. Then the dumbass forgets he was broadcasting in direct chat and he tells his friend he is holding up a black guy(not the word he used) in the jail building with no ammo. Luckily for the dynamic duo I had just found an axe, I told them piss off, I'm looting but they were insistant on robbing me or killing me so I did them a solid and buried my axe into their clown masks. Being a nice guy, I informed them that if your are going to threaten someone, please don't announce over side chat that you are robbing a guy with no ammo. They were nice enough to donate their clothing and backpacks full of supplies and a can opener. I was a good first day in new chernarus

whats great about this game is

Sorry for trying to be friendly walrus, I guess I will go back to lurking in the shadows or I could just be a cantankerous old man and shout alpha or get gud scrub or just generally be a douche bag like some peeps here on the forums. But hey this will give me time to work on my sarcastic internet asshole badge that has eluded me for so long -
Sanity/rationale/crazy meter to encourage player interaction?
tobias winfro replied to BAMO4O's topic in Suggestions
The sanity/insanity meter has been discussed a few times, it never turns out good. Some people detest the idea of interacting with other players and feel that the sanity meter is just an artificial way to make them play nice. There are no more heroes or bandits, just survivors. Sure people play to help, some to hinder progress but the game is what you make of it. I'm not sure you will be able to reduce the kosing even with the proposed sanity meter, its just a play style people choose. Is it wrong? Nah, its just frustrating when it happens but gear is simple enough to get and try to get back into the hunt. Beans to you for wanting something different in Dayz, I just don't think you will get many to go along with it -

Welcome to Dayz, glad to see you have hang of dealing with other fresh spawns hehe. Night servers are a bit creepy especially if you weren't counting on joining a server with night time. The team speak server you joined might have been hosted by the server owner or another group in game but its a good way to meet people and potentially survive in a group. You mentioned people were helping other survivors get their gear back if they died, this is usually groups or friends helping each other out. You will find people who will help but others won't. Dayz is much better if you have someone to show you the ropes or to help getting around or just another friendly voice to keep you from going insane while you running around the map and survive. Anyways sorry for the long winded post, nice to meet you and hope you have safe travels in chernarus. -
There are no tools that allow you to ban players from standalone. You have rcon access you just have to set it up, you are given the option to kick players but you better have a good reason. Also, if you abuse the kick option and restarting the server to save your character from dying or to loot cycle and you are caught, the service provider will flag your server. I believe it works on a 3 strike system after the 3rd time I believe you get black listed and they take your server rights away. You can't enforce PvE rules or RP rules either, the game is completely vanilla and must be kept public as per the terms of the server rental agreement
-
All you have to do is have the guns, ammo, food, water etc on your character somewhere. Weapons, both melee and ranged will stay on your back, all of the other survival items in your shirt, pack, pants and vest/holster will save and go from server to server with you until that character dies or get glitched out. Some servers will reset your gear, I've only ever been on a few. Loot is easy enough to find though if that happens as long as you go inland. In my travels, the glitchy servers aren't that common but they do happen so don't be too bummed if this happens to you
-
Correct, everyone starts out on the beach with the clothes on your back. Once you get your bearings head away from the coast and look for different houses and buildings. Different buildings spawn different items but once you get the hang of it you will know what to skip. The only form of saving at the moment is what you currently have in your inventory. Maps spawn, mainly in pieces though. If you find different sections just drag one on top of the other, it should turn a shade of orange and give you the option to combine the to halves and then you get a new map. As for people getting geared so fast, if you know where to look for certain things like food, water, weapons and clothing it goes a lot easier or you can kill another player for their loot. The choice us yours on how you play whether you help people, shoot people or avoid them altogether. You can use any sharp object to open cans of food as well as use it to protect yourself and if you find a water pump and have a canteen or bottle put it in your hands, face the pump and use your scroll wheel until you get the option to fill the bottle or you can drink directly from the pump. Happy hunting out there, be leery of others as they are the only real threat in the game at the moment. Take time to get into cover and observe your surroundings before running gung ho into a major city or military complex on a full server as this is the best way to get shot. I almost forgot, if you can find sticks, rope and a burlap sack you can make an improvised courier bag. Once you have the courier bag combine it with another stick and you will craft a improvised backpack. The improvised courier bag has 12 slots and the improvised backpack has 20 slots. Hope this is helpful

So i have come to the conclusion that dayz really is supposed to be PVP
tobias winfro replied to dtrain7055 (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I don't think the issue is people not realizing PvP is the only thing to do at the moment, I think they were hoping for something more than a giant game of slow paced tdm. Some peeps just want to band together and survive, however they are in the minority. You can't blame them for being upset though, they paid to play how they wanted only to find out that Chernarus is as lawless as the wild west was back in the day -
The duck are keys? and why is it causing such an issue?
tobias winfro replied to CakeNinja's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
How are you trying to access the server? Are you using Dayz commander or are you trying to join through the arma 2 browser? I've gotten this error when trying to connect to a server through the arma 2 browser. I'm sorry, I know I didn't answer your question but if you are using the arma 2 browser try using Dayz commander -
Good for you trying to help people out, some won't appreciate your efforts though. Like Barnabus said someone is gonna try to ruin your day so be prepared for it. Dayz needs more people who want to help out instead of just helping themselves to your gear after douche bagging on you
-
And yes king_of_the_beans, sometimes all it takes is one bad experience for people to say fuck it and adopt that mentality. I used to be outwardly friendly, now I am still friendly but most of the time if you aren't in my friends list or in team speak, I wouldn't piss on your gums if your teeth were on fire. Most people in this game aren't interested in being your friend or trying to interacting with you other than to kill you and get your sweet lewtz. Hell even the freshies have to be watched at all times because what do they have to lose? They may die 4 out of 5 times but that 1 time pays off and they don't have to spend time looking for stuff to survive
-
Oh to the OP, was your original character on a regular or hardcore server? There is a difference, if you started your character on a regular server and then tried to log into a hardcore server you would be a fresh spawn as these are 2 different game modes(for lack of better terms). Hardcore mode has the 3rd person camera view removed and only uses 1st person
-
Yup sounds like you donated your stuff to your 2 new friends. Welcome to Dayz, you loot and you die. Don't get attached to your gear because you will lose it due to glitches, zeds and other people. There is plenty of loot out there as long as you get off the coast.
-
To the OP, yes well feel your pain. There are countless threads here on the forums about it, its part of Dayz. Trust me Dayz is not the same game when you remove the PvP element, I've admined for PvE servers in the mod. While it can be a good place to kick back in, you lose something from the game. It becomes a loot simulator and then you start to get bored with it. Its survival of the fittest at this point in Dayz and with zeds being glitcy/bugged and low in numbers the only real thing to do is get stuff and go hunting for others. You stated that you've watched YouTube videos and saw people shooting on sight yet you didn't seem prepared for it to happen to you. Don't get attached to your gear, Dayz can be a cruel mistress. Other people are the wild cards in this game, that's what makes it so appealing. This game is still incomplete, there are many things the devs are working on and when we get them things will calm down but they will never go away

I've got about 150+ hours in standalone and I've met several friendly players but I've met many more who want nothing more than the gear in my pack or my rifle. There are friendly players out there but are far outweighed by the kos kiddies. Hang in there but by all means play how you want to, just remember that there is no such thing as a friendly standalone server. Admins have limited control over their servers and enforcing a no PvP policy violates the rental agreement. People will try to trick new players with server titles like no PvP loot only or no kos but don't be fooled. Also never let your guard down, even with freshies, they have nothing to lose and your gear to gain. Most of the people I meet are "friendly" when they are on the buisness end of my SKS
-
Non kos is as much of a thrill as kos
tobias winfro replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
Blasphemy, seeing another player and not kosing, what has this world come to? Actually, very well played. Beans to you for not shooting a geared and unaware player -
What gun are you using? The M4 is horribly inaccurate even with pristine components and using the .22 rifle is like shooting someone with a BB gun. Gotta love them punching freshies, got nothing to lose and everything to gain
-
You could try wearing a helmet, that is supposed to help a bit and why are you hassling new spawns when you have a gun? Afraid of some competition? Oh wait you still got knocked out for your troubles. Also try shooting for center mass instead of shooting for the legs to troll people.
-
Being that you are geared its time for a high pop server for some PvP action. Being a "hero" is cool and all but 9 times out of 10 trying to help people will only get you shot quicker. You will find people to help but the line between being a hero and a survivor is skewed. There will be times when you must choose to shoot someone for safety reasons. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do but like what calabam said PvP is end game at this point
-
Badmins man....it sucks to die so cheaply but its part of the game at this point. I know its no fun to hear that but some people just want or need easy mode and free lewtz. Its sad that its easier to kick someone to kill them than it is to man up and fight for the resources
