I think its being kept because of its easily recognisable shape. If someones running around with a .50 on their back, you can tell from a mile off, so you know to either get over the next hill away from em, or close the distance between you carefully.

Am I unlucky or do Admins just always hoard stuff?
Ezekiel_2517 replied to coltonlong's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ive had quite a few ATVs recently and I think they might be the best solo vehicle once you learn how to get them back on their wheels from those insane flips they do. Why? Because theyre so damn easy to hide. Being tiny and in that nasty green/brown colour, they can be hidden in most evergreens with little effort. Due to thier flippy nature, the berezino docks often have one on them after an unlucky driver found out that driving there was a terrible idea. They get abandoned on thier side and get reset back on thier wheels once the server restarts, so if your lucky youll be able to get them off the dock, but youll have just as much of a chance of flipping it again. -
Are Ghillied Suits and NV Goggles spawning?
Ezekiel_2517 replied to Justice357's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Damnit, I found an L85 at a crash site the other day, thought they had been removed and didnt work so I left it. There was a nameless item below it too, that added to me thinking I should just leave it there. I was wearing a ghillie at the time of the last major patch, it just dissapeared and Im back in civies now. The vehicles on most servers have been taken by clans and hidden away off map. Any that are left are usually snatched up quickly and hidden in the woods by other survivors. OP, if youve only been playing for a week, its really not unusual for you not to have found all of the rarest loot in the game. If it was possible for everyone to get that high tier gear right off the bat, the game would have zero longevity asside from pvp. -
My lady survives her first NW airfield snipe
Ezekiel_2517 replied to Hetstaine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cool story man, with only one sniper at the NW, I guess you made the right call skipping stary. Be real nice to play this with the girlfriend, but while she can beat the crap outta zelda on hardcore, shes no PC gamer. I imagine things would be a lot more emotional playing with your partner, much more of a protective instinct than if you were just playing with some bros. You could laugh at them gettin killed, no problem, laugh at your lady and your gonna be in trouuuuuble. -
My first murder and now I feel guilty
Ezekiel_2517 replied to dnoparker@gmail.com's topic in New Player Discussion
@OP: As others have already said, you were right to kill him, sneaking up on you was the only way that axe was gonna get in swinging distance before you noticed him. As for the guilt, its a good sign, you still have your humanity. As for my first murder? It was pretty simple, I came into the Balota ATC tower and could hear footsteps above me. I called out to whoever was there and told him to say something or Id shoot, but he kept quiet and crept down the stairs till he was directly over me on the stairs. I asked one last time for him to identify himself before I strafed out and cut him in half with my AKS-U. Strafed a lil too far though, his AKM broke my legs and he'd logged out and despawned his corpse before I was on my feet again. Gave him more than enough chances, he could have went out the other way, down the ladder, but he wanted to shoot me. Only regret there was that I didnt get to loot him. I have felt guilty the last day or so though. I was scavenging the factory between Orluvets and Polana when I hear AK fire erupt out the back where Id stashed my ATV. Cursing, thinking Ive just lost my wheels, I took up a position with a decent view and peered through the twilight. I caught a glimpse of someone I could have sworn had NVGs on. It was a bright night, but thinking that Id just lost my vehicle to someone so well geared that they would turn thier nose up at an ATV in good condition, I decided to wait a while instead of engaging. 5 to 10 minutes pass before I crawl out under the back wall. I opted to down the zeds along my escape route, for the sake of gettin out fast and quiet with my prized M4 CCO SD. The adrenaline had me shaken though and it took 4-5 shots to find the heads of two walkers. As the second goes down I see the two survivors crawling right at me, maybe 20 metres away. Immediately I say "Evening gents." over direct, to see how they react knowing they've been spotted, but they just keep crawling. I keep my head down and crawl to a crumbled wall nearby. "Stop crawling towards me or Ill frag the two of you." I warned them, forgetting that Id moved my grenade to my backpack to pick up tires. But they just kept comming, these silent unknown crawlers in the night. It was messy when I stood up. Most of a mag went into them before the flies came, but they never fired a shot. Between them they had a winchester, a sightless AK74 and basic supplies, what I thought were NVGs must have just been the rim of his baseball cap. My ATV in the trees nearby was also untouched, that hail of gunfire must have just been reckless fire at some zeds. I felt hollow inside, these were no badass bandits, just a couple of hapless newbies. Didnt even loot all those beans they'd collected, just walked away and spent the next half hour or so driving aimlessly along the highways, wondering if there was anything I could have done, if they even knew I was there in the first place. The following day my ATV flipped on the outskirts of Orlovets and refused to get going once it was righted, one of the back wheels seemingly stuck in place. After a long scavenge of the factory and two nearest towns, I finally got back with a wheel to see if that would dislodge it, but to no avail. Just as I was giving up hope, I heard an engine in the distance, getting closer and quickly. I only just have enough time to get 15 metres up the hill and behind a rock, but my mind is racing, what the fuck do I do? This is the perfect setup for an ambush, my vehicle is stuck and along comes an even better one thats gonna park right in front of my face, asking to be stolen. The green UAZ pulls up before Ive made up my mind and a survivor jumps out and onto the ATV which he gets onto the road right away, much to my dismay. The ambush implications of this must have been apparent to them too, as they were on the move again 20 seconds after comming to a stop. As my precious vehicle that I gunned down two men to protect last night drove away, I found myself saying "Ohnononononoyoudi-int" and began popping rounds at the driver. The first few miss but as one finds its mark he starts fishtailing and drove off into the field round the corner of the hill. I sprint uphill to get a clear view as the UAZ pulls up next to him, a few more rounds and I see the pink mist of a headshot. He slumped off the quad and his buddy took off winding across the field then up the road. I didnt fire at the UAZ, I just wanted what was mine to be safe. I felt totally justified in the moment, but as I questioned it, loading his gear into the quad, so not quite as profound an experience as the previous evenings, but still. I realise that if I was driving along with a buddy and saw another vehicle just sittin there Id totally have taken it too. This guy was just unlucky that they hadnt come across it 10 minutes earlier before Id got back. Now this was a couple of days ago now and it's still on my mind, still plaguing me. This stands testament to the effectiveness of the game, that Rockets mission to make a game that engages players on an emotional level has been a success already. Hope he keeps up the damn fine work. Sorry for the wall of text, been wanting to start a guilt thread for a while now. TLDR; Kill the sneaky axeman, but guilt is good. I be all "Say something!" they be all "...", then I be all "FINE, BE THAT WAY!" *DAKKADAKKA* :( Guy gets ony my ATV *DAKKA* ;) at first then I  :( -
Well theres got to be at least one downside to server hopping, right? To avoid this, dont log off anywhere hot, get out in the woods and do it in a tree or a bush. It doesnt have to be too far, just lie down anywhere where its uncommon for another player to be looking and you should be fine. It actually adds a little bit of realism if you think of logging off as your character going to sleep, you gotta find someplace secure to rest till the next day. You take a nap in the middle of cherno and you aint gonna wake up.

How do you turn on a weapon mounted flashlight?
Ezekiel_2517 replied to augoosto's topic in New Player Discussion
M4 CCO is the weapon with a flashlight that Ive used the most, cant remember how it was on the remington, but even the handheld flashlight and the military ones seem to have buggy switches for me. -
1. If your sound and visibility indicators are at zero a zed will pretty much have to trip over you to see you, but this is only likely at night in the grass. As long as they are not facing you directly you can prone past with only a few metres of breathing space. 2. I had an issue like this the other day after a respawn. Shift tapping didnt seem to toggle my run back on and could only walk or sprint by double tapping W. It was only after I picked up a maky that I noticed that I must have double tapped Q earlier as I was constantly leaning left, which doesnt show up when your unarmed.

How do you turn on a weapon mounted flashlight?
Ezekiel_2517 replied to augoosto's topic in New Player Discussion
I find I sometimes have to spam my "L" key to get it to turn on or off, so quickly flicking it on and off again just aint an option most of the time, at least while moving. Aiming it at the ground just before my feet seems to get it to work a lot faster for some reason, or at least it feels like it does. -
You succumbed to banditree.

Hello all, names Dave, ingame its Ezekiel 25:17 and on steam its =[Ezekiel2517]= again. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inadequicies of the selfish and the tyranies of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truely his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger on those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers and you will know my name as the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. -Ezekiel 25:17 If you come across me ingame, Ill be friendly and willing to help provided you keep your weapon lowered and away from me. Paranoia has served me well and kept my encounters with hostile players in my favor so far (In situations where I had a chance anyway, respawning in the dark only to be chased down by a bandit with nvgs within five minutes doesnt really count). Im from Scotland, so voice comms tend to be a little problematic from time to time with the accent, but "AWW BAWS!!! LEGGIT!" seems to be universally understood. I think I might have been addicted to DayZ before I even got my hands on a copy of ARMA. Id watched as many gameplay videos on youtube as I could find in preparation and it seems to have paid off. Only 6 or so deaths in and Ive got a 3 day old character with a V3S truck full of meat and ammo, just need some folks to share it with now.
