Also the size of the maps comes into play chernarus is 15x15km and if i am correct, most of the other maps are 10x10km (or 10x15km), in addition to having alot of water thus empty space

the graphics card will really struggle in dayz but if u bought the game already, give it a try maybe itll be ok

there is a recent community update by r4z0r where u cant eat more than one item per 5 minute and the meat is really nerfed just saying

i agree that the single players are rather as u say "fucked" with the new updates but i dont see it useful to go to the point of calling devs idiots and so on adapt, find people other argument is that this will hopefully prevent people from KOSing as much

when the game is running, ctrl alt del, task manager, find arma2oa.exe right click, priority, high. will give at least 5 extra fps

i played planet side 2 and i had to cut the settings down quite a bit to play it smoothly and without lag (normal up to 80fps and 30-40fps in the huge fights) and i have quite a powerful machine i get 40-50 fps in cities in dayz, and 80fps in plains, so basically fps in planetside is very close to dayz as for optimization, dayz is rather poor when it comes to that there are ways to improve performance, from 20fps u may possibly go to 25fps, but its not that much if u could afford an ultrabook, ull be able to pay urself a nice pc, and trust me u need a pc for dayz. the laptops simply dont cut the edge and rendering of arma 2 may look shabby in vids, but only untill u play it urself the game is very nice graphically when u get to play in person

Whenever u meet someone, ure always afraid to turn ur back on them for at least the first hour ure playing with them. Some time ago, i remember running into a guy with broken legs and an m16. at first i was just looking at him from afar and trying to find a better place to take a shot at him (he was between buildings) , but then it just so happened that i approached him and starting talking over the voicechat, and well he turned out to be a good guy, haha. I helped him out with morphine, and played with him for over 2 more hours. And even though we were helping each other, and sharing stuff we found, we still almost all the time were checking each other out thinking that u never know when a shot may come. But it never did, and even up to this day, i still play dayz with that guy and a few more of our friends. Only one shot back then would have spoiled most of the fun that i was later going to have in that group. Cheers to not shooting on sight! not exactly what u asked for in the post, but still a "cool story"

the standalone will be brought to gamers using Steam as platform. so it will all be updated automatically on the player-side. As for the servers, i dont think it would be that hard for them to be up-to-date as well, provided all the improvements that are going to be implemented.

judging by ur performance in planet side 2, i think ull do just okay with dayz expect around 15-25 fps in cities, and maybe 40fps in plains edit: i just checked the dell xps specs and im a bit dissapointed. that thing doesnt even have a gpu, just an intel3000hd im surprised u can even get 30fps in planet side 2. as for dayz, its hard to predict taking in mind what u say, but initially i would have said that an intel inbuilt gfx chip wouldnt even get 10 fps in dayz

dayzdb.com for map and info have a look at the map, itll really help try to find people to play with. this game isnt really that fun when played all alone

thats unusual maybe try launching ur game as admin? if ure playing of steam, launch steam as admin if of dayzcommander, then go to the installation directory of ur game, and find arma2oa.exe right click, properties, compatibility, run this prog as admin, check that good luck

or maybe its just the server thats lagging more and more over time
