Petition to add the Mosin Nagant to Day Z

Signed even if it means I'll get my head blown off

Does Dayz use up a lot of Internet?

I gave you mine, I hope they're OK ;) I was busy sending him a PM about Freemeter which is pretty easy to use and after that I saw your post :D

Does Dayz use up a lot of Internet?

I don't know how much it uses exactly. Depends on how busy the servers you're on I guess. Online gaming does create more traffic than usual, the only thing worse is constantly downloading stuff I guess. You could install a program that measures the bandwidth and usage while you're running just DayZ. That should give you a pretty good estimate of per hour-usage. I would recommend trying to find another ISP without imposed limits (if possible) as they suck.

DayZ in a way, has ruined gaming for me!

I think it also was the last Elder Scrolls to actually hand your ass to you if you picked wrong stats or went into the wrong tomb / ruin where the foes were way too strong :D I remember my first character dying to a mudcrab, those were the days. The mods for it are crazy as well, you can get it to look really good even today. I'm going to start playing again when Tamriel Rebuilt is finished in a 100 years. The thing that bugs me most about other first-person games after playing DayZ / Arma is the inability to actually look around you without turning your whole body and being able to see your body in first-person.

    Locked storage - zombie dependant

I think this is a good idea. I kill zombies for the hell of it, going out of my way to off them but this would certainly add an extra dimension to the game and like you said, it would make higher-tier loot actually require effort to obtain. Safes could also be in the high-residential areas where ordinary zombies would be the key-carriers. It might be a good idea to restrict them to an area around the safes / lock-boxes while they're idling to not make it impossible to match box and key.

gore and dismemberment and sewing back on limbs

VBS is the engine the Arma engine is based on. Around 0:22 when he lifts up the wounded soldier, you can see he's missing part of his leg so it probably could be implemented but it's not likely that you'll be alive when it happens. Sowing limbs back on would be ridiculous and I would change my name to the Black Knight if it came to be, 'tis but a scratch!

    Karma System for the Standalone

Karma is not a good idea, it doesn't work in real life and it wouldn't work in DayZ. Plus bad luck is already in the game with all the bugs of the Arma engine :) so I'd say that makes a pretty good substitute.

    TRAIN

If they ever put trains in, which I hope they don't then it should be possible to derail them by blowing up the rails.
  9. Too bad I read his post before your comment and he cast his spell on me

A question about trees & veg..

DayZ uses whatever trees the original map used so you'd have to alter the Chernarus-map to use the BAF / PMC-trees but they would probably look very out of place and only people owning those expansions could play that altered map unless the Lite-versions also contain the trees and such in low-res. It MIGHT give a performance-boost if the models are better optimised and meant to be used in the same amount as the originals, those pine-forests are big but otherwise they might even impact performance even more :)

I think I found a better portait of you ;)

    game trolls you?

Looking for a gun but kept finding hatchets. After the fifth hatchet I logged off.

    Reason behind your username?

I just have bad luck playing DayZ and I like Burt, who doesn't?

    Was shock removed?

The closing door glitch seems to be gone in Arma itself as well, maybe Bohemia fixed it? I was in the Armory the other day closing doors on myself to see what would trigger it's killer instinct but nothing happened.

    Who killed me?

Thanks ;) somebody's got to show these folks how it's (not) done right?
  17. I'm going to see if I can find it tomorrow but I think I saw an interview with Rocket where he discussed the powerplant idea, saying they looked into it and that they surpisingly found that when no-one is around to maintain the systems, they shut down pretty quickly and are a lot of work to bring back up again.

    Who killed me?

I think they shouldn't even show the 'Player was killed' message to everyone when you kill someone, I pray it'll be like that in the SA. Image if someone kills you and afterwards they get killed by someone else, you both spawn close together and decide to team up after running into each other. When exchanging 'how did your last dude die?' stories, there's always the chance of finding out you teamed up with your killer but when you don't there's also the possibility of being completely oblivious and having fun together.
  19. This time the engine is actually built for it and he already has a good idea for what works and what doesn't from the mod so I think it should turn out fine. I don't know what the sections are exactly that he refers to in that Q&A but 9 times out of 10 less is better when it comes to performance and going from 5 to 1 cuts it down considerably, freeing resources. The only thing that saddens me is that he said the Hyneman probably won't be returning :(

    My DayZ review

I think you should do your review on the stand-alone game that will probably have addressed a lot of the issues you and other people might have with this mod. You said that DayZ tries to be a first person shooter with standard controls Have you tried playing Arma2 before playing DayZ? I don't really see how you could say that if you have. You have a point on the broken legs though, it sucks when that happens and you have no morphine on you. And you might want to try fixing a vehicle if you want shorter travel times, otherwise I suggest sucking it down and taking a hike :), the journey is part of the fun! About hackers, I survived my few encounters with them but yeah, they suck. The SA will hopefully make it harder for them if not impossible to mess with the game and players. As for the people playing this game being murderous maniacs, it's just a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time I think. If you check the stories on the Survivor forums there are some great ones of strangers actually doing stuff together. One of DayZ's charms is that you decide how you play, that's why I'm a tree-lurking coward at the moment but I sadly think it's a fact that most people wouldn't be friendly after a real apocalypse and some people would kill others over stupid shit just like they do now.
  21. So, there I was in a little patch of forest, just minding my own business. A few hours ago I shot a pig to fill up on my meat stash when I realised I needed water. I usually get all my stuff at night and hide throughout the day, much safer that way but it seemed this time I had no choice. Luckily, the forest I'm in has a little pond on the other side so off I go, sneaking from tree to tree, checking my surroundings the whole time. I'm almost there and as I stop in a tree and wait for my breathing to stop, the moment it stops I hear the exact same thing right behind me, almost like an echo. So I turn my head in freelook and there he is, the axe-wielding zombie-bastard. With him being the first player that got that close to me in-game without offing me I actually screamed IRL even though I know you can just pick that face and totally forgot to use direct chat. Instead my instincts forced me to haul my ass the fuck out of there so I pressed down W and started running. I guess he thought I wanted to play tag because he gave chase. The night before, looting a deerstand had gone terribly wrong and I was already low on blood so when I finally turned around to shoot him, he quickly landed a few hits and down I went. And to the guy who killed me, have fun with my gear! If I hadn't screamed like a little girl and actually used direct chat I would've happily given you some stuff, if you were ever friendly at all but I guess this works too :) Back to looting!

    First close encounter

I was hiding out south of Skalka, figuring it should be relatively safe as there's not much of interest to be found in that area. If only he would've felt the same way!

    First close encounter

Does that mean you're the one that killed me? ;)

    Guy in the back...

That's me alright. I hide in the trees until I need meat, water or build a fire to warm up. The few times I had the pleasure of meeting fellow DayZ-ers, I was unarmed and I ended up getting shot within 10 seconds even though I wasn't doing anything harmful. I didn't have a headset back then so I couldn't call out friendly and now that I got one, I don't call out, period :P - you just won't see me lurking in that tree (I hope). Once I'm skilled enough to defend myself, I'll probably head out and start helping others but for now I just lay low.

    Introduce yourselves

My name is Chris, or Mr. Decoy in game. I found Dayz because it kept showing up in the Recommended vids on YT :) Being a complete noob at Arma and Dayz I tend to stay away from other players which so far is working out nicely. I mainly lurk in trees, hunt, get water and run back to the tree again, firing off a shot with my Enfield every now and then to scare away other players :P
