Wasteland style objectives.....but done very differently
badluckburt replied to nox81's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There could be hidden stashes around Chernarus, weapon caches, supplies and other stuff you might think of. They did have a war going on before the infection if you keep things in the Arma universe. Searching through houses, you might encounter diaries, maps or other things that point to the location of these goodies. This way, you could just stumble across them or decide to actively treasurehunt. Anyone who played Morrowind will remember that the NPC's used to give you (sometimes flaky) directions and descriptions of landmarks to go on to reach your destination. -
I agree. At times it can be very convincing, the only thing that annoys me that sometimes it gets too dark when you're turned towards the sun. I realise it's to simulate pupil constriction but it's way too much. I have gamma up a few notches to combat it but I hope it will be more leveled for the stand-alone. Also, the blue sky in the screenshot is definitely the sky from TOH and I imagine it'll be tweaked sooner or later, the bleakness of Chernarus is one of the things that made DayZ work I think.

If the player was to spawn with a handkerchief or if they would spawn as loot, all he would need is a stick and there's plenty of wood in Chernarus. The hand-kerchief could also be used as a temporary bandaid to slow down bleeding while you rush to find a real one somewhere. Afterwards you'd have to find a new one.

There's definitely a point to his post. It's nice to know that it's possible to get 60+ frames in a town. Do you by any chance happen to own Take On Helicopters? I recently bought it, tweaked the hell out of it but still had to turn down the view-distance to minimum to get the visuals I wanted. I wonder how that game would look on that beast machine of yours - there's a demo available on Steam should you want to check it out.

Maybe I'm dense for thinking this but wouldn't a piece of cloth on a stick work to gauge wind direction? Not a thing a 'serious' sniper would use I guess but it would work right?

SA: Making Shooting While Driving More Authentic
badluckburt replied to DayZoey's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
BIS originally intended Arma 2 to support this out of the box but they dropped it before releasing - probably because of some of the reasons you stated (two handed weapons in banking helicopters). If they implement it in SA, which would be very cool then shouldn't it be possible to shoot at any occupant while inside the vehicle? I'll be driving around playing Garbage, I think I'm paranoid! :P -
This should definitely be added. Even the big fuel tanks don't hurt you if you set them on fire. If your fuel source wasn't completely dry to begin with then yes, otherwise no.

Toolbox should allow player to cut a hole in a chainlink fence
badluckburt replied to Griffith's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Hehe, that gives me an idea: there's an ambient noise in the cities where a rusty gate opens. If they were to add other noises to that, they could add a chainlink fence rattling in the wind. When I first started playing I didn't realise the gate opening was ambient so I always thought there was someone around me until I heard it in Arma as well. -

I wouldn't be soundless but I bet I could get over it with less noise than you'd expect. -

Climbing over it would be even better as it takes less time but I wouldn't mind this. Your suggestion reminds me of the game Commandos, there was an engineer character who could do that :) -
(FIXED) Micro Stuttering - Please help
badluckburt replied to Macciavelo's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Arma does not like those CPU's I think: http://forums.unitedoperations.net/index.php/topic/13152-amd-fx-cpus-and-arma-2/ The OP in that thread does seem to get better results by fiddling with some AMD settings so maybe that could help? -
I believe MaxFramesAhead can't go lower than 1 and Arma overwrites the other value everytime you run it but never reads it. I read that on the BIS forums when I was tweaking my own setup.
-
Shame you didn't record it, I would've loved to see that
-
Yes it does. It's one of the more annoying features in Arma. There's also a mod called NoBlur by Okt I think that disables it so you can have the rest of the post-processing in case you should want that.

Why do you shoot unarmed players?
badluckburt replied to maninthewall's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I dont, I'm too busy being scared and running away -
Being a Lone wolf, you should consider it.
badluckburt replied to mitor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I play lone wolf because I can't shake the distinct feeling that I still suck at this game and run around like Captain Obvious all the time. Teaming up with other players would probably mean certain death for them plus the only thing I'm good at is flying helicopters and finding working boats. -
character development as incentive [long]

If people keep killing each other at the rate they do now, there might be a chance that we'll never see anything fixed beyond bikes :) -

If these are tied to your in-game GUID, whenever your character respawns he has 'your' knowledge so you pick up where you left off skill-wise. Having to 're-learn' skills would suck ass as much as fetch quests. I would be OK with having to learn certain steps to complete tasks sort of like the recipe-system. That way, if I memorize that shit I can do it when I need to. -
I like the idea but I think the only way this would work if DayZ would incorporate biometric feedback from your own body while playing it. That would be pretty sick and the game could even determine wether your morale goes up when you're killing :P -edit Thinking about it, this would not work. It leaves room for even bigger exploits. Watching extremely funny shit on the side that makes you laugh everytime you see it saves you whenever morale is low, so does doing drugs and what not. When I play drunk or stoned I'm laughing my ass off when I get shot because I'm way less into it then when I'm sober.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but a razor as a bayonette wouldn't really work I think as those are made for stabbing which is basically impossible with a razor. Also, using toiletpaper to securely attach that? The molotov-cocktail is a good idea, probably already suggested before but still, being able to blaze up the place would be very cool.

character development as incentive [long]
badluckburt replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That I can agree to. For raw foods that could also be cooked or otherwise prepared, this would be a nice addition. Eating raw meats frequently gives you a higher resistance to the diseases they carry so your body has an easier time fighting off infections thus regaining health faster. You should still be at risk of catching an infection though, just a smaller chance. -

Why not make things go 'faster' as you do them more instead of locking away abilities for higher levels? Where appropriate, you might obtain more items of what you're trying to acquire or use less of them. I would imagine a skilled hunter being alot faster at gutting animals than a first-timer, he might also be able to get some more meat off the body. Same thing with fixing engines, it is NOT impossible to fix something you have never encountered before, it will just take more time and might cost some more parts due to trial and error. The only thing I really can't agree to is regenerating more health from the same food because you have more experience eating it? Perhaps that's not what you meant, in which case forget I mentioned it. -
I don't know what your problem is but I don't even play that game. If the DLC for DayZ turns out to be free, all the better but if not, I won't mind paying for a good map if the price is reasonable. If new features for your car / pc / whatever crap you ever bought with the capability to be expanded come out, you don't go running to your dealer getting that for free now do you? edit And sometimes you do get that new ish for free, that's when you got lucky. edit yet again changed upgraded to expanded because it makes more sense, we're talking landmass here

And I'm gonna double post, just wanted to get the above of my chest after reading the reply above it. I don't think it's that crazy to expect future maps to be paid for. Unless Rocket and BIS decide to give us access to the editor, there's going to be money involved in creating future content. I could also be entirely wrong, if BIS treats this as a 'fun' project like the ones Google cut back on it might be funded with whatever they can spare and we reap the benefits :D
-
I don't know why the first three replies are negative or why the game I shall not name was mentioned. If I get his post right, he's merely saying that maybe future maps for the stand-alone could be paid DLC.
